Listen. I don't fight over things but I will fight you over these chocolates. Yea, I said it. I will fight you. Especially of the turtles. Ring the bell it's time to fight if you touch my turtles from Phillip Ashley. LOL! The Taste of Memphis is my favorite collection of chocolates. Overall, I gained 50 pounds from these chocolates and I'll happily gain 50 more. LOL! read more

Terrible customer service. Failed to ship to of the three holiday items I ordered. Rude replies to my emails asking on order status. Owner promised refund and to ship items after about a dozen emails....never did either. AVOID!!! read more

This was first attending an event at this store and I must say I was very pleased. The chocolates were delightful and very tasteful. They not only make their own chocolates and serve lunches as well hot teas and coffees. Its a very exquisite place and great for meetings and small gatherings. read more

I normally don't post bad reviews but this was just egregious. Ordered in early Nov for December delivery christmas gifts. Charged my card immediately for the $200. Then crickets. No product, no response to inquiry email, phone lines have been shut down. You literally cannot communicate with this business unless they choose to talk to you. Had to go through Amex to initiate a refund as I could not get a response from the company. Wish I had looked at Yelp before ordering but the website was beautiful and I skipped the normal review checks when dealing with a new vendor, shame on me! read more

Like many, I ordered the chocolate turtles after ABC World News broadcast on 12/17/21. Similarly experienced receipt of several emails with explanations. Reached out on Phillip Ashley website chat feature multiple times and received ~95% response rate. Order arrived just under 9months after order placement. Although the company had valid & understandable delays (pandemic, weather, supply chain), the company should have immediately given the option for a refund, once it was determined they would not be able to meet demand in a timely fashion. NEGATIVE 5 STARS for the delay and lack of easy refund option. Communication as time went on became 100% better than a couple of emails over 3 months. With the chat feature, got notification of mailing and received product the next day. 3 STARS for overall Communication. Box of 8 turtles (4 milk chocolate 4 dark chocolate) was shipped in a thermal insulated bag with cold packets, enclosed in a larger box. The inside of the bag was a cool 63degrees, ensuring the turtles were not melted during this cross country trip to a 74degree western state. 5 STARS for shipping. The turtles tasted pretty good. The "new" design (upside-down fluted cupcake shape 3" diameter 1" high) turtle, although different than traditional turtles and stylish, was difficult to eat. The 1" thickness made it difficult to get a good bite from top to bottom. I ended up biting a little from the top, then a little from the bottom, then repeat. By doing this, one really notices the bottom bite is only going to be a thick layer of chocolate. A flatter turtle would be easier to eat. The caramel has a consistency of corn syrup, which I confirmed, was the intended design. 3.5 STARS for taste & eatability. For the price point, $69.00 I really expected spectacular taste and presentation. It was well presented but lacking it spectacular taste. Overall experience 3 STARS read more

I ordered 2 boxes of chocolates as Christmas gifts. They didn't arrive in time for the holidays, but I figured no big deal, the recipients were adults and didn't mind a wait. When the chocolates arrived, they were packaged with cold packs that were still cool to the touch... so I was really surprised when we bit into the chocolates and they were clearly spoiled. Both boxes. Like "tried to choke them down and couldn't had to spit them out" spoiled. I was excited to support a small business, but after throwing nearly $100 in the trash, I have to say spend your money elsewhere. read more

Through no fault of the company, there was a mishap with delivery but the team was prompt at responding and immediately filed a claim with UPS. Although a day late due to the mishap, my friend received his chocolates and absolutely loves them thus far. He's been raving how gorgeous and tasty they are! I would highly recommend to anyone willing to splurge for a special (or a "treat yourself") occasion! read more

I ordered back in the beginning of November and never received my order! I would say do not order based on my experience. I received a confirmation on the order and a follow up email about my order not being shipped yet back in November but haven't received anything since then. read more

For me, a complete waste of money. Like I said, this is my opinion. All the chocolates tasted exactly the same. There was absolutely no way to distinguish between each flavor. I could have spent $100 on Any other drug store brand and have had the same experience. They were very pretty,..they arrived quickly,..but what a disappointment in taste. Cadbury chocolate tastes sooo much better, to me, than this chocolate. I would not recommend. read more

Phillip's chocolates are one of a kind and melt in your mouth. The variety box is my favorite. You never know what to expect from the flavors but one thing is for certain...they're going to taste good. The best part was the after taste. I WANT MORE!!! read more

I placed a Christmas gift order on November 28 and have yet to receive the order. Feeling like I got scammed. I wish I never tried to support this business. I ordered chocolates from Phillip Ashley based on a a lovely experience we had meeting him in Napa. I ordered a $130 box of chocolate for a Christmas present for my husband. I understood that when I ordered on August 30, that this was a pre-order to be shipped mid November. As of today December 22, I have no box of chocolates to give to my husband for Christmas. I am very disappointed with this business. I have been communicating with the owner via Instagram since late November. He assured me several times that my order would be received on time. Then he posted on Instagram that he was going to discontinue doing small orders, and only accepting business/luxury gift orders. I reached out to the owner again on Instagram and asked for a refund since it was clear that I was not going to receive my order for Christmas. His response was very rude, and he stated that he was still going to ship outstanding orders, but asked me for my PayPal so that he could send me a refund anyway. That was several days ago and I followed up again, and still I have no product or refund. I have reached out to him two days in a row, now regarding the status of my refund, And it's crickets. I really didn't want to give this kind of review, as I never wanted to bring down a black owned business. But please do yourself a favor, and avoid this business. I guess since he's no longer doing small individual orders, he should run into less problems with fulfilling orders. I will be going to my credit card company to initiate a claim to get my money back. read more

The chocolates are exceptional. I had the pixies ... larger than life. Smooth taste and the Carmel is delicious.

I'm so disappointed in this place. I ordered chocolates in November for Christmas gifts. They didn't arrive by Christmas, so on December 30 I cancelled my order and asked for a refund. I've written several times because the phone number is not in service. I still haven't gotten my refund, and now I'm not even getting a response to my messages. I honestly don't understand how anyone thinks this is good business practice. read more

If the time frame of waiting for a product exceeds what a lot of customer's consider to be average (more than a month) that information should be posted on the website prior to orders being placed - transparency is everything! I placed my order on Dec 18, 2020 and after numerous emails, I FINALLY received them today; they are very delicious, but an eight month delay?! I waited because I wanted to patronize a black owned company, but honestly, I couldn't see myself placing another order or referring anyone to them in the future. I do wish them well.... read more

Save your money. Although I've had positive experiences with PA in the past, this past experience was enough to inspire this review (which I could give zero stars). Placed order two weeks ago - credit card charged, received immediate confirmation email but crickets ever since. Sent an inquiring email last week and have last two voice mail messages with no response. Just sent an email to a different email address requesting a refund. Only today do I peruse the reviews on Yelp. Not sure what happened since I last ordered PA chocolates in early 2022 but I'm done with them. Hope I don't need to go in-person to their sketchy shop in midtown Memphis to request my $100 refund...will be sticking with See's candies in the future. read more

His world award winning chocolates really by now speak for themselves. I'm sorry I actually thought I posted this awhile back so my apologies to u Chef. The chocolates are delightful, fun and tasteful as can be. Served at the recent Grammy's he's in much demand. And to think I actually lived around the corner on Elzey until 2005. This place one-ups a chocolate fantasy because the creative chocolates they serve are things you never dreamed of. My favorite was the Chocolate that included Smokey rum in their ingredients. These are the same chocolates that were served at the Grammy after-parties and the Governor's Ball. Chef Phillip, the creator of these special chocolates, was a great host and very knowledgeable about chocolate and chocolate related topic. When I think about giving a gift in the future I'm going to choose Phillip Ashley's chocolates. read more

Welcome to the "Gucci of Chocolate!" ... Phillip Ashley's is just that! It's a high-end chocolatier and I'm glad that my Mom flew in and dragged me across two states to experience this with her. Five stars are warranted for the founding story, artistry, and flavor alone. But after visiting, the great service and extra touches put it in a league of its own. The shop itself is minimalist-chic, the flavors are ingenious and over the top (as the price point depicts they should be)... and I JUST LOVE IT! read more

I ordered, I waited, waited and waited. Sent invoice number, still nothing. Still waiting.

Well ordered chocolates last year 2020 and since then I have received 4 or 5 emails from them telling me "sorry about late shipments-we're working overtime & hired more staff". I've made calls to them, but can't leave messages. Oprah recommend them and I'm sure she got her boxes, but I'm STILL waiting as of March 2020. I've accepted not getting chocolates just lousy email excusesfrom them Now it's Sept. 2021 and this place is advertising on Instagram and many orders have not shipped including mine-everyone who got scammed should get a refund read more

I understand the risk of growing a small business too fast. How you can't overextend and hire too fast just to not keep them, how you can't jeopardize the quality of the product. Good leaders though don't make excuses though, they find solutions. You, Mr. Ashley are simply a chocolatier. Strip your self appointed title of CEO because you are nothing "C" and nothing "E" and infringing on real officers. I ordered turtles Dec 10th, 2020. That's four and a half months ago! Did you eat into the margin of your $40 for 3 Turtles and hire out a second kitchen to fulfill the Oprah's fav things blessing? Seems like no after four months of waiting. Did you 25% discount all of our orders where we're waiting months and months? Not that I've heard. No, you send out crying emails (please don't cancel or leave bad reviews) about how tough it is to have more business than you can handle. The nerve and conceit of it is mind boggling to me. Opportunity knocked and you answered in the weakest possible way. You did nothing. No adapt and overcome, no figure it out, just status quo and monthly woe is me emails. The worst, most glaring lack of leadership consumer experience I've ever had. read more

Absolutely the WORSE!! I ordered chocolates on December 16, 2020 as a Christmas gift and to-date, March 9, 2021 I still have not received them. I have received a number of excuses via e-mail stating "its the pandemic, bad weather, staffing shortages, we're overwhelmed" but no chocolates. I have also received notices from UPS stating "your order has been shipped" only to find when clicking the tracking number, the shipping label had been cancelled by the company. This happened on two separate occasions. This is beyond frustrating and in my opinion no way to operate a business. Please DO NOT purchase anything from this company; you will be disappointed and in my case out of some hard earned money. read more

Ordered a Christmas/New years gift for my aunt on Dec 17th and have yet to get the chocolates. Asked numerous times for refund with no response. No chocolates are worth waiting 5 weeks or more. Buyer beware! I too ordered chocolates online on December 17,2020. Just after they were showcased on ABC World News Tonight. Here it is May 8, 2021 and I've yet to receive my chocolates. They haven't responded to my email inquiries or requests for refund. Their voicemail box is constantly full. I received generic group two emails from them asking for patience, not to call or email so that they could concentrates their resources on production. Not a good thing when anyone drops customer service from their business model! Especially frustrating when I read recent YELP reviews of customers raving about their recent deliveries. What happened to my order from 6 months ago? Most companies won't charge your credit card until their product is shipped. Not Phillip Ashley. My card was hit immediately. Kinda hoping that word gets back to ABC News and Oprah about how poorly their recommendation turned out. I know in my heart that it was good to give my business to a small, black owned business struggling thru a pandemic. I got totally burned as a thank you for my kindness. read more

I'm embarrassed that it took me this long to discover this gem. This man is a genius, the flavors he combines are mind blowing. Like who would think of pairing balsamic vinegar and sea salt? Phillip would! And let me tell you that truffle is delicious! You can pop in for a few truffles for yourself or even an entire box. But trust me if you're in need of gift this will do the trick for just about ANY occasion. Stay away from this company. So many of us were taken in by the December 2020 ABC Made in America story about a small business making great chocolate candy. Seven thousand of us sent in an order and yes, Mr. Ashley was taken by surprise. But here it is Memorial Day weekend and so many of us have not received our orders (read the other posts), and they won't refund our money. Luckily, some of us used a credit card, so we might be able to get our money back that way. Whenever you contact them, you get the runaround, messages that say thanks for hanging in there or we'll be shipping your order on Wednesday. I got that last message four weeks ago, still no chocolates. How can a business with practices like this stay open?Wish I could have given this business a zero star review. I placed an order in Dec. after seeing it on World News Tonight. I was so excited to order these for my husband who loves turtles. I didn't expect to have them before Xmas, but I do believe that I should have them by now. I have received multiple emails stating delays. On March 24th I received an email stating, "That means you will have your order between now and the next 35 days barring no other natural disasters or government mandates requiring us to suspend production. The good news is: we seem to be past all of that. " Now they no longer respond to emails or text. I have been really kind when asking them about my order, so there is no reason for them not to respond. I will gladly change my review, when (and if) I receive the turtles. I am very understanding. This is very disappointing. read more

I've tried really hard not to write a bad review because of everything going on due to COVID, but this is beyond acceptable. I placed an order on 12/21/20 in hopes of getting it at least sometime in January. I received all the emails about the delays due to Covid, and was even told that turtles are the most popular and takes a little longer. Well, it's been SIX MONTHS now and they've just stopped responding...even after sending an email a day ago...nothing. At this point I'm just going to dispute the charge with my bank. The most amazing chocolate turtles I've ever had. Totally delicious! Had to wait a bit. First, this small business was totally overwhelmed after Oprah recommended them. Then, they had probs due to weather/utility problems, but they sent advisements, inc copy of boil-water order from Memphis to show that they were doing their best. Oprah was right! BEWARE! So let me get this straight your company has grown so big and you have hired so many new people that you can't fill my order from before Christmas and now you want to keep my $70 and not ship me anything and in the future I can order a $100 worth of chocolates that you might ship! I had emailed numerous times since I left this review. I also called numerous times and could not leave a voice mail as "the mailbox is full". I'd call again when I would think about it and NEVER SPOKE TO A LIVE PERSON!!! I went to their website and saw that they had an option to receive a text from (customer service)... so I gave my cell number and received a text that someone would contact me within 24 hours. No attempt to contact me was made. Tried again with a text notification and again no attempt to contact me. Tried a few more times and never received any information. Called again and left a voicemail with my name and order number and requested an update on status of my order. Finally received the turtles on October 20, 2021 with no notification to expect them, they were in a cardboard box and inside the box was a silver sealed mylar bag with two cold packs. We did not realize they would ship like that, so we just had them on the counter for a day before opening. There was a smaller black zip top back inside the silver bag, so we removed that bag and put the turtles in the refrigerator. We finally tried one this evening and they are almost impossible to eat, the base of the turtle is about ¼" thick chocolate, and caramel is runny, not like a regular turtle at all. If I wanted a lot of chocolate I would have ordered a solid piece of chocolate, not a turtle. I'll stick to a more local chocolatier in the future, where I can see and receive the product and then pay for it. read more
