I ordered 2 boxes of chocolates as Christmas gifts. They didn't arrive in time for the holidays, but I figured no big deal, the recipients were adults and didn't mind a wait. When the chocolates arrived, they were packaged with cold packs that were still cool to the touch... so I was really surprised when we bit into the chocolates and they were clearly spoiled. Both boxes. Like "tried to choke them down and couldn't had to spit them out" spoiled. Like many, I ordered the chocolate turtles after ABC World News broadcast on 12/17/21. Similarly experienced receipt of several emails with explanations. Reached out on Phillip Ashley website chat feature multiple times and received ~95% response rate. Order arrived just under 9months after order placement. Although the company had valid & understandable delays (pandemic, weather, supply chain), the company should have immediately given the option for a refund, once it was determined they would not be able to meet demand in a timely fashion. NEGATIVE 5 STARS for the delay and lack of easy refund option. Communication as time went on became 100% better than a couple of emails over 3 months. With the chat feature, got notification of mailing and received product the next day. 3 STARS for overall Communication. Box of 8 turtles (4 milk chocolate 4 dark chocolate) was shipped in a thermal insulated bag with cold packets, enclosed in a larger box. The inside of the bag was a cool 63degrees, ensuring the turtles were not melted during this cross country trip to a 74degree western state. 5 STARS for shipping. The turtles tasted pretty good. The "new" design (upside-down fluted cupcake shape 3" diameter 1" high) turtle, although different than traditional turtles and stylish, was difficult to eat. The 1" thickness made it difficult to get a good bite from top to bottom. I ended up biting a little from the top, then a little from the bottom, then repeat. By doing this, one really notices the bottom bite is only going to be a thick layer of chocolate. A flatter turtle would be easier to eat. The caramel has a consistency of corn syrup, which I confirmed, was the intended design. 3.5 STARS for taste & eatability. For me, a complete waste of money. Like I said, this is my opinion. All the chocolates tasted exactly the same. There was absolutely no way to distinguish between each flavor. I could have spent $100 on Any other drug store brand and have had the same experience. They were very pretty,..they arrived quickly,..but what a disappointment in taste. Through no fault of the company, there was a mishap with delivery but the team was prompt at responding and immediately filed a claim with UPS. Although a day late due to the mishap, my friend received his chocolates and absolutely loves them thus far. He's been raving how gorgeous and tasty they are! Feeling like I got scammed. I wish I never tried to support this business. I ordered chocolates from Phillip Ashley based on a a lovely experience we had meeting him in Napa. I ordered a $130 box of chocolate for a Christmas present for my husband. I understood that when I ordered on August 30, that this was a pre-order to be shipped mid November. As of today December 22, I have no box of chocolates to give to my husband for Christmas. I am very disappointed with this business. I have been communicating with the owner via Instagram since late November. He assured me several times that my order would be received on time. Then he posted on Instagram that he was going to discontinue doing small orders, and only accepting business/luxury gift orders. I reached out to the owner again on Instagram and asked for a refund since it was clear that I was not going to receive my order for Christmas. His response was very rude, and he stated that he was still going to ship outstanding orders, but asked me for my PayPal so that he could send me a refund anyway. That was several days ago and I followed up again, and still I have no product or refund. I have reached out to him two days in a row, now regarding the status of my refund, And it's crickets. I really didn't want to give this kind of review, as I never wanted to bring down a black owned business. But please do yourself a favor, and avoid this business. I guess since he's no longer doing small individual orders, he should run into less problems with fulfilling orders. Placed order two weeks ago - credit card charged, received immediate confirmation email but crickets ever since. Sent an inquiring email last week and have last two voice mail messages with no response. Just sent an email to a different email address requesting a refund. Only today do I peruse the reviews on Yelp. Not sure what happened since I last ordered PA chocolates in early 2022 but I'm done with them. If the time frame of waiting for a product exceeds what a lot of customer's consider to be average (more than a month) that information should be posted on the website prior to orders being placed - transparency is everything! This place one-ups a chocolate fantasy because the creative chocolates they serve are things you never dreamed of. My favorite was the Chocolate that included Smokey rum in their ingredients. These are the same chocolates that were served at the Grammy after-parties and the Governor's Ball. Chef Phillip, the creator of these special chocolates, was a great host and very knowledgeable about chocolate and chocolate related topic. Well ordered chocolates last year 2020 and since then I have received 4 or 5 emails from them telling me "sorry about late shipments-we're working overtime & hired more staff". I've made calls to them, but can't leave messages. Oprah recommend them and I'm sure she got her boxes, but I'm STILL waiting as of March 2020. Absolutely the WORSE!! I ordered chocolates on December 16, 2020 as a Christmas gift and to-date, March 9, 2021 I still have not received them. I have received a number of excuses via e-mail stating "its the pandemic, bad weather, staffing shortages, we're overwhelmed" but no chocolates. I have also received notices from UPS stating "your order has been shipped" only to find when clicking the tracking number, the shipping label had been cancelled by the company. This happened on two separate occasions. This is beyond frustrating and in my opinion no way to operate a business. Buyer beware! I too ordered chocolates online on December 17,2020. Just after they were showcased on ABC World News Tonight. Here it is May 8, 2021 and I've yet to receive my chocolates. They haven't responded to my email inquiries or requests for refund. Their voicemail box is constantly full. I received generic group two emails from them asking for patience, not to call or email so that they could concentrates their resources on production. Not a good thing when anyone drops customer service from their business model! Especially frustrating when I read recent YELP reviews of customers raving about their recent deliveries. Kinda hoping that word gets back to ABC News and Oprah about how poorly their recommendation turned out. I'm embarrassed that it took me this long to discover this gem. This man is a genius, the flavors he combines are mind blowing. Like who would think of pairing balsamic vinegar and sea salt? Phillip would! And let me tell you that truffle is delicious! You can pop in for a few truffles for yourself or even an entire box. But trust me if you're in need of gift this will do the trick for just about ANY occasion. I saw a review that said it's not worth the price point...everyone is entitled to their own opinion but they're wrong! Stay away from this company. So many of us were taken in by the December 2020 ABC Made in America story about a small business making great chocolate candy. Seven thousand of us sent in an order and yes, Mr. Ashley was taken by surprise. But here it is Memorial Day weekend and so many of us have not received our orders (read the other posts), and they won't refund our money. Luckily, some of us used a credit card, so we might be able to get our money back that way. Whenever you contact them, you get the runaround, messages that say thanks for hanging in there or we'll be shipping your order on Wednesday. I got that last message four weeks ago, still no chocolates. How can a business with practices like this stay open?Wish I could have given this business a zero star review. The GOOD: Great product, Great Taste, Awesome presentation. And that's it. The BAD: Horrible and non-existent communication, and ownership once they take your order and money. I contacted Phillip directly for an order for Christmas for my clients. This was on 11/28 when I received the invoice, paid, and gave him the shipping information. He replied that he could fill it, and it would be in my client's hands by 12/23. I contacted them multiple times asking for status leading up to 12/22, and received no response. They do not answer their phones, or reply to emails. On 12/22 I finally reached Phillip on his cell phone (by text as he won't answer his phone). He then realized that they had not filled my order, and apologized and rushed his team to get them out overnight. I never received tracking numbers (even though their website clearly says they will communicate with you through the process, and ultimately supply tracking #'s). Unfortunately, a winter storm hit Tennessee on 12/23, and FedEx halted deliveries. My clients received their packages between 12/27 and 1/3 (as some are still waiting at the time of this review). This could have all been avoided if he (and his team) actually filled their orders in a timely manner, and stayed in communication with their clients. My corporate gifts would have left before the storm actually happened, and would have been delivered on time. Lesson: If you want good chocolate, WITH SERVICE, then look elsewhere. Again, it's too bad, as he has a great product, but he overpromises and under delivers. You will see this is a common theme in his reviews read more

I placed an order in Dec. after seeing it on World News Tonight. I was so excited to order these for my husband who loves turtles. I didn't expect to have them before Xmas, but I do believe that I should have them by now. I have received multiple emails stating delays. On March 24th I received an email stating, "That means you will have your order between now and the next 35 days barring no other natural disasters or government mandates requiring us to suspend production. The good news is: we seem to be past all of that. " Now they no longer respond to emails or text. I have been really kind when asking them about my order, so there is no reason for them not to respond. I will gladly change my review, when (and if) I receive the turtles. I am very understanding. I placed an order on 12/21/20 in hopes of getting it at least sometime in January. I received all the emails about the delays due to Covid, and was even told that turtles are the most popular and takes a little longer. The most amazing chocolate turtles I've ever had. Totally delicious! Had to wait a bit. First, this small business was totally overwhelmed after Oprah recommended them. Then, they had probs due to weather/utility problems, but they sent advisements, inc copy of boil-water order from Memphis to show that they were doing their best. Oprah was right! I had emailed numerous times since I left this review. I also called numerous times and could not leave a voice mail as "the mailbox is full". I'd call again when I would think about it and NEVER SPOKE TO A LIVE PERSON!!! I went to their website and saw that they had an option to receive a text from (customer service)... so I gave my cell number and received a text that someone would contact me within 24 hours. No attempt to contact me was made. Tried again with a text notification and again no attempt to contact me. Tried a few more times and never received any information. Called again and left a voicemail with my name and order number and requested an update on status of my order. Finally received the turtles on October 20, 2021 with no notification to expect them, they were in a cardboard box and inside the box was a silver sealed mylar bag with two cold packs. We did not realize they would ship like that, so we just had them on the counter for a day before opening. There was a smaller black zip top back inside the silver bag, so we removed that bag and put the turtles in the refrigerator. We finally tried one this evening and they are almost impossible to eat, the base of the turtle is about ¼" thick chocolate, and caramel is runny, not like a regular turtle at all. If I wanted a lot of chocolate I would have ordered a solid piece of chocolate, not a turtle. I'll stick to a more local chocolatier in the future, where I can see and receive the product and then pay for it. read more
