It's a small shop but they have tons of items to choose from. There was product is zip lock bags (see pics). I'm not sure if that's normal or just because we came late in the day. Walking around and finding that majority of restaurants were closed at 10am in downtown Memphis, The Peanut Shoppe was the only place open. Stopped in and was greeted with a very warm welcome, and started looking around. My colleague started talking to the gentleman working, and quickly found they were from the same Country. For nearly 20-30 minutes, we were all just chatting and getting to know one another. It was such a pleasant, welcoming experience, I didn't feel any pressure to buy anything. I have family in Memphis and my uncle has been buying from him for years. We've been sent tins for Christmas, and I finally got to step into the shop. It's a family business and the owner is so friendly and deals with his customers the old school way - like people. We ended up in this tiny shop for probably over an hour just chatting with him. He's got a peanut roaster / warmer from the early 1900s that still works, and its what he uses. He has a variety of nuts - all fresh, and you can taste the difference. If you like spicy, get his spiced blend - either the peanuts or almonds. You won't be disappointed. You can also order online, and he will ship anywhere in the country. His prices are very reasonable considering his product. You will pay a lot of money in the grocery store for packaged nuts. His are all fresh, quality product for what you would probably pay in store. read more

The Peanut Shoppe is an interesting little hallway with a roaster and a counter filled with candy and nuts run by a very helpful Palestinian guy. Ms T and I had walked by it several times, so we went in and I bought a custom blend of blanched, salted peanuts, chile peanuts and dried pineapple. The proprietor suggested adding the sweetness of the pineapple and it was a great idea. This is a nice carry around snack while you are in Memphis. I did note that the place smelled of the mercaptan used to odorize natural gas. He has gas fired roasting equipment and must have a very small leak. read more

The Peanut Shoppe is one of my favorite parts of working downtown. First of all, it smells good. Really good. Walking down Main between Monroe and Madison, it's easy to get a big whiff of roasted goodness without even opening the door. Secondly, they're willing to mix up any combination of their fresh nuts and chocolate by the quarter, half or whole pound. Inside, the shop is long and narrow, lined on one side with ancient glass cases full of candy, peanuts and chocolate. The opposite wall is often lined with hungry lawyers and bankers taking a break from their work. The downtown Peanut Shoppe has been in business since 1949, selling nuts that are roasted in the store (which explains the amazing smell). It's one of the friendliest places in town. The shop is currently owned by an ultra-friendly husband and wife team (Riddah and Ameera), who tend to greet their customers by name, ask about their jobs and remember orders. The Peanut Shoppe is open daily until 5 p.m. They accept cash and credit cards on orders over $5. read more

My first time in this store, the owner and the young lady there were very friendly and welcoming. They greeted me as I walked and said to take my time if needed. It was a cute little shop and as you walk in, you can smell the roasting of the peanut next to the door. It was very comforting in a sense. Walking toward the end, looking at the display, I finally came down to the decisions of what to get. 1/4 lb of Chocolate cashews. They are really good! Old fashioned smells with decent prices and some really great selections, made this a fun place for me to use my Groupon coupon. I really enjoyed the owners, Ridda and Amoorah, who not only roast their own nuts and pop the corn, but it is Ridda who prepares the caramel corn, which was so fresh-and I'm afraid my hips will never forget it. I also enjoyed talking with them about subjects ranging far beyond 'peanuts.' They are Muslims who have extensive knowledge and are involved in the community and provided me with a lot of information, background and history -in Memphis which has a large (huge) population-but years ago had only a miniscule amount.
