The store is very cool, very old galley type store. It's like you've stepped back in time. One long aisle. Trays of all kinds of nuts, roasted, salted, plain, candied. Popcorn was popping as we walked in. The smell was wonderful. You order by the 1/4 pound and up. The scales are old fashioned weighted type. I asked for a 1/2 pound of pumpkin seeds. Out comes a 1/2 pound weight that he places on a tray and then scoops the seeds on the other tray until the center scale reads zero, or there about. His weighing is not an exact science but he errs on the side of the customer. CHOCOLATE, TOFFEE PECANS: I ordered pecans surrounded with toffee, then chocolate covered. I didn't care for them. I couldn't taste the pecan although when you break it in half, you can see there is a pecan in the center. My husband liked them though. CHOCOLATE COVERED RAISINS: Not great, but not bad. One step up from Raisinets. SALTED ROASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS: Large seeds and delicious. SALTED ROASTED PISTACHIOS: Rich tasting and delicious. CARAMEL GLAZED POPCORN: Outstanding!!! This is not your toffee type boxed popcorn. This is home made and the fresh popped popcorn mixed in. Absolutely delicious and addicting. Ridda, the owner was very friendly and saw we appreciated the history, especially since being from NJ, I have childhood memories of the AC Planters store. Ridda told me to stick my hand into this torture chamber looking object. I was hesitant, but finally did. It was warm inside! He had just finished roasting peanuts in the original 83 yr old roaster! He really takes pride in his product and store. This is not only a nice place to pick up some snacks, but also a history lesson and a place for tourists and locals to stop just for the attraction of the store itself. This is an interesting little shop on Main St. that is well worth the stop. The fresh peanuts and butter popcorn are great. Buyer beware though, if you step out with fresh peanuts there are neighborhood squirrels that will stalk you for the rest of you walk. I guess they are big fans of the shop as well. read more

This place was wonderful! Small in size, large in selection, gigantic in customer service. After buying $4 of candy, the owner of 25 years took 15-20 minutes to welcome us to his city and suggest many places to visit and eat. When in Main Street, invest 10 minutes here, talk to the owner (or his daughter), you will not be disappointed. Peanut Shoppes is a show that you'd see on the Travel Channel, Food Channel - why because its old (From like the 40s) it's got a story (a good one) and they have the orginal custom made peanut roaster that still works in there. The nice man in the store was super happy to tell us all about the place, and there are only 8 original peanut shops in the US. Who knew? We got some spicy peanuts and man they go great with beer. While we were there some 'regulars' came in and got their little bag of nuts to go. Its that USA historic charm that is rare to find. Stop in. Buy something. USA !! read more

Fantastic service and great quality peanuts, as well as every other imaginable nut in plain, salted, and chocolate covered varieties. Also a lot of classic candy to choose from. My kids love coming here on a Saturday when we're out exploring Main Street! Get a a bag of fresh cooked bag peanuts and some dark roasted peanuts. If you like peanuts then you won't be disappointed. The peanuts and the service were decent, but the person running the shop on a Saturday was a bit grumpy.

We stopped by with a coworker who had heard of them and wanted to check it out. It was early, before opening, but the owner saw us coming and let us in. He was super friendly, and he was just getting the shop ready for the day. He said that if we were on our best behavior while he began roasting, he'd let us have some yummy fresh samples. We were angels and got to try several different things. My favorites were the salted peanuts, the Hawaiian mix and the pistachios. They were all delicious! Had my mouth set for some pistachios and happened by this place. Very friendly owner, helped me out with some apartment suggestions, and sold me some good, FRESH, pistachios. This downtown gem is an absolute must-go spot in Memphis. Ridda is a fantastic part of the storied history of this wonderful spot and he can just as easily tell you stories about Elvis' visits there as a teenager (before his time, of course!) as he can tell you about the way in which his fantastic nuts are prepared. I live in New York and I've been so pleased to order nuts over the phone-- they are roasted and shipped same day. You can't go wrong with anything in the store, but the spicy/sweet blend of nuts is amazing! If you are in the store (lucky!) I can't explain why, but the popcorn is like no other-- regular and caramel alike.
