I am new to the DC area and chose Philippe Chow as my "homecoming" dinner. I was greeted and welcomed by the most amazing and friendly staff. The manager Adonys made sure me and my party were well taken care of, his attention to detail was exceptional. I really want to give them another try! There's was an incident we experienced but management responded as best as they could right away. Out of respect of some things just being out of their control I won't disclose full details but did reduce my rating from 3 to 1. Service - Staff were all friendly and courteous. No complaints for our waiter...but I did watch the table next to me have their duck sliced table side. I was not impressed with the presentation! Food - just okay! I prefer a more authentic Chinese menu or at least a mix but I previewed the menu in advance so I knew what to expect. I ordered the string beans with filet mignon and my date had sweet and sour chicken. The filet melted in my mouth but the taste was just okay. Overall the dish was fresh so I ate with no complaints and added some spicy chili oil. Same for the chicken dish...just okay. Nothing to brag about. Ambiance - I've read other reviews with complaints about noise but I did not experience this. Perhaps we lucked up by getting sat in a pretty quiet corner. So no concerns here. Overall, the restaurant was beautiful. My only tip, please brighten up the bathrooms a bit. They are way too dark and make me question what your hiding! read more

Overpriced Chinese food. The food is good, but overpriced. The spring rolls and dumplings were amazing, but $22 for three spring rolls is absurd. I got orange chicken and my girl got filet mignon and green beans. I would have preferred that they give us our own separate rice but they gave us rice to share. They charged $8 for a sprite and don't provide refills so we were charged $16 for a can of sprite that cost $1 at 7-11. Again, the food was good but not worthy of the premium prices they charge. read more

Staff: I have to start this review off with an unqualified endorsement for this staff of this restaurant. From my server Rashard to the front of house manger Demir I couldn't have felt more welcomed and more well taken care of during my visit. Food: I visited for the first time during the summer restaurant week and was able to sample several of there items with the prix fixe menu. The Peking Duck Springs rolls were incredible and throughout the meal all of the dishes had accompanying sauces that allowed for customization among our 3 diners. Drink: while we were sat in the front dining room area, just walking past the beautiful bar inspired me to want to visit again and make time for a pre dinner drink. The cocktails were good with interesting integrations of both southeast Asian and traditional French ingredients. The wine we selected was great and while I won't claim to be an expert when it comes to understanding wine I felt like the recommendations from staff were helpful. Location: The Wharf is absolutely stunning at night, I would highly recommend spending time post dinner walking along the water and enjoying the entire boardwalk area. A couple of previous reviews mentioned the struggles with parking near the restaurant and I can confirm it is a very popular place to go on nights and weekends. Unfortunately the closest metro stop includes stairs so probably a good idea to ride share to and from your dinner. read more

This restaurant is confused about what it wants to be. Straight off, the food is decent. We got spring rolls, beef satay, and chicken lettuce wraps to start. All of those. Were good. The crispy duck entree was good as well, but the drunken sea bass was a miss. All of that said, the price to value ratio is very poor. The wine list, however, makes no sense. The list is almost entirely heavy reds, which doesn't make sense with Chinese food. Of the wines on there, they were all very overpriced for what you got. The vibe is also quite straight. Despite the upscale vibe from the outside, the restaurant played house music for the entire dinner. There's also a DJ booth by the front door. No real comment on the servers, because the place is new and people are still learning the service. In total, it's a Chinese place with decent, but overpriced food, a nonsensical wine list, and some desire to also be a club. This reminds me of an upscale Hong Kong in Boston/Cambridge. read more

I had the vegetable spring rolls, beer batter satay, lobster satay, lettuce wrap with/chicken, branzino and bok choy. My friend had drunken sea bass and we shared everything. First of all, I'm not really a person who eats a lot of meat, but I was thoroughly impressed by the beer batter satay and peanut sauce, so much so that I thought about ordering another. The lobster satay was also amazing and the peanut sauce was truly one of a kind. I had the branzino for my main entree and the eggplant surprisingly was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The branzino was simple, elegant in its presentation and tasty. I order the split king for my cocktail, which was also delightful since I like a hint of citrus in my drinks. For dessert we had the Fortune Cookie Red Velvet Cake and the warm lava cake, which was delicious. I admit, I did want the lava to pour out of the center when cut, but the ganache was mainly on the plate for presentation. I passed on the Cotton Candy Baked Alaska when o discovered I couldn't actually eat the cotton candy and it would be burned away to present the cake and ice cream. Maybe they can consider leaving some portion of the cotton candy on the future for us cotton candy lovers. The ambiance was great, the music was better than I expected and the design of the restaurant was classy and elegant like I expected. I'll definitely be back and I wish I could order this food from home via delivery! I did try to see if it was possible on Uber eats, but it doesn't look like it quite yet. read more

Nice space but staff is poorly trained and good mediocre and overpriced. They seemed over staffed yet understaffed at the same time. The bussers seem to stare into oblivion, only occasionally refilling waters and when my daughter accidentally spilled water not notice at all. In other places, staff will put a napkin on the table cloth over the wet spot and replace the napkins we used to soak up the spill. Here nothing at all. Busser also dropped a dirty fork on my pants, leaving a stain. No apology because they were clueless. Kitchen had an issue with their oven which delayed our duck. We were told 30 minutes. Only 1.5 hours later we were told about the oven issue, whereas up to then it was duck will be here soon or duck ready just needs to rest a little. Then they had the gall to bring a duck to the table next to us who ordered significantly later than we did. The other table had a play they were going to see. Well we are customers too. No apology. No nothing. We cancelled the duck. If they were honest we could have ordered something else and all would have been fine. I left $0 tip for the first time in my life. I've had bad service but I always feel bad about leaving nothing so even bad service gets 15 percent and of course decent or good service gets more. Oh and food that we had not that good. Filet Mignon was dry and spicy even though we specifically asked if it would be spicy. The dumplings at $20 for 6 was highway robbery. And 2 were dyed green! Why add that coloring! read more

It's fine, just very overpriced for food which is on par with my excellent neighborhood Chinese restaurant and is only 1/2 the price. The atmosphere is Vegas like and techno music was playing. They apparently have. Dress code which 80% of their guests were not adhering to and the restaurant wasn't enforcing. read more

I live at the Wharf so when I heard this place was opening up I was very excited. First time there was fine, food tasted fresh and everything went well (server seemed a little 'unrefined' but it's a new restaurant). Been there a couple of more times since and each time the quality went down significantly. Last time the food was near inedible, lobster shells in the $45 lobster fried rice and the $41 salt and pepper prawns were soggy. Cool location but the music is pretty loud. Reservations are easier and easier to come by now which is not a good sign for the wharf. I give this place 6 months if things don't improve. read more

It's Fathers Day...we arrived on-time for our 7:30pm reservation; it's 9:02 and we haven't even had appetizers!!! WTF

I would actually give this place a 2.5 right now. My sons and I came to this restaurant on December 23rd, Christmas Eve weekend to celebrate my son coming home from college. We were asked if we wanted water. We say yes and with limes. Unfortunately, the limes didn't come until about 30 minutes or more after the water. Then we were asked if we wanted drinks. My sons got mocktails which were great and I ordered the Spilt King shaken and served with no ice. Unfortunately, my drink finally arrived after about a 20 minute wait and it had tons of ice in it. So I politely told the bar runner who had long brown hair and dangling silver heart earrings, I asked for no ice. She looked at the ticket and agreed that I requested no ice. She came back about 10 minutes later with this dirty looking glass and said to me specifically and I quote..."NO ICE!" She said it so firmly with such attitude. I looked at her and was thinking is she serious! Therefore, I told my waitress that I needed another cocktail because the bar runner gave me a dirty looking glass. Thankfully I had no issues with my waitress. She brought me back a different glass with the cocktail. I could see both her and the waitress from where I was sitting because I was facing the bar. Unfortunately however, all my waitress did was pour the possibility contaminated cocktail into a new glass and added a slice of grapefruit. This is unacceptable at ANY restaurant but ESPECIALLY a "5" star restaurant. This was my first time coming here and unfortunately my waitress and bar runner left a seriously bad taste in my mouth! Their lack of customer service and customer experience still makes me want to vomit. Needless to say...I haven't gone back. I rather travel to the REAL Mr. Chow restaurant in New York and NEVER be disappointed!!! read more

We've eaten here twice now and the first experience was great (see my earlier post) -- there were 4 of us and we enjoyed excellent food (but very expensive). This time was just my boyfriend and me and we wanted to try the Peking duck. Daniel was our server and he was excellent. There was a table next to us with a couple that turned the experience into a social media post extravaganza... brought their own cake and had it on the table the whole time and kept filming each other... with a crazy bright light that they just left on and would move around flashing in everyone's face in the darkened dining space. Our server was kind enough to ask them to turn it off. As for the duck... it's not served properly. I've eaten Peking duck my entire life and all over the US... this is the first time it was sliced in thick chunks with all the fat in it. Normally the duck skin is removed and the fat scraped out. Then the meat is thinly sliced to put into a pancake. This was so fatty that both my date and I got sick that night from it. Literally ill from it. And the pancakes are too thin to enjoy. It's just a weird experience. For $115 I also expected the rest of the duck to be included. But they don't even give you the legs (we've always had the legs included at any other Peking duck restaurant)... you have to ask for the carcass afterwards. I highly recommend that if you want to eat here, enjoy a couple of drinks and some entrees and skip the duck. read more

Had an amazing time! My lady and I came for date night and our server August was so knowledgeable and had great recommendations on food and drinks. I really wanted to love this place.. or at least like it. Sadly, my review of Phillippe Chow will not be a good one. My date made reservations weeks in advance for Valentine's Day at 7:45pm. It was prepaid due to the holiday - $125 per person plus tax & gratuity with a champagne toast that was supposed to be given to you upon arrival and a rose (I received neither). We traveled all the way from Western Maryland to try out this establishment because of the raving reviews we had heard from others who had gone to the New York location. We arrived a bit early around 7:20pm. Upon check in the Maitre d advised there would be a wait but that we could sit at the bar and someone would come and get us. We headed to the bar. I found a table alongside the wall as my date went to the bar to order us a drink. The bar is packed but not abnormally. 20 minutes go past - my date has yet to receive bar service and our reservation has yet to be called. Finally my date comes back with our drinks. We sit, we chat, we give the place grace because it is Valentine's Day and we understand how busy it can be. Around 8pm my date heads to the desk to ask how much longer will it be before we are seated and we are told.. drumroll.. there are TEN tables in front of us. To our dismay, we are not seated for our 7:45pm reservation until 9:00 pm. It took myself and my date having to go up to the desk several times to speak with someone. By this point, patrons are yelling and screaming at the poor front desk girl because they have also been waiting over an hour for a table. The manager was nowhere to be found and no apologies were given. They attempted to sit us at a table wedged in between two other tables where we would essentially be sharing tables. My date requested a different table and the waiter acted as if the request could not be meant until he showed him how tight the spot was. We were then given a table off to the side. At this point we both are tired, hungry and very disgruntled by the experience - not the romantic experience my date had hoped for our first valentine's day spent together. Our waiter, Daniel was the only light in this story. Daniel did everything in his power to make the experience better. We had to order enough food to fill the $125 pp set list and he gave suggestions after we ordered the salt and pepper calamari that was so salty neither one of us could eat it. The chicken satay and lobster fried rice were delicious. Everything else - duck dumpling and duck spring rolls were subpar. For the price point and location, the service and the food needs to be.. HAS TO BE better; if not you will for sure lose patronage. Shame on the management of Phillippe Chow Dc - you are tarnishing the name of an establishment that is known for stellar service, good food and ambiance. As someone who enjoys fine dining and will gladly pay the price for a good meal, I am so saddened by my experience here and even more so by managements lack of caring. read more
