Service: On a weekday evening, it was fairly busy. Our waiter was attentive. Food was served with lightening speed, which made me question the freshness. Food: I ordered the Special Prawns. It was paired with a tangy/sweet sauce. I ordered broccoli as my side. The prawns were sizeable. The broccoli had a crunch -- which I appreciated. Hate mushy veggies. I was able to try other dishes, such as the Szechuan Chicken. I had anticipated some spice, but it was not spicy at all. The flavor was a bit sweet. I enjoyed it. Overall, Philippe Chow was just ok. The gentleman that I'm assuming is the manager also asked how the food and service were, which was nice. When it came time for dessert, I was going to order the sorbet but since it comes as two scoops and I was alone, I declined and said I'd order it with a friend next time. Had the opportunity to experience both Restaurants and I must say they are completely different. This one in particular is the party restaurant. If you want an intimate setting with just you and you're significant other don't come to this Philippe Chow lol. This restaurant was lit and it definitely understood the assignment of keeping everyone entertained and served. The only con and you will only know this is a con if you've gone to both restaurants. The food downtown is not as good as the other Philippe Chow surprisingly. Again, you won't know that comparison unless you've experienced both restaurants. It is a low key intimate setting, if you're looking to turn up...ummmm this is not the place lol. Seating is a little close but doable . Staff very welcoming which is a major factor as to me it can make or break the dining experience. We had appetizers, main meal, dessert and yummy drinks. BTW.. this was a Restaurant Week Experience. Had an ok experience here. Came for restaurant week dinner. Started with the lychee martini and it was strong and delicious! The 2 apps we got were the chicken satay and the veggie lo mein. Noodles were good but nothing special. The chicken satay... not sure what everyone raves about. It tasted EXACTLY like the chicken in the McChicken from McDonald's. It definitely wasn't bad but it's not a typical satay flavor, so prepare for that. The sauce on it has a very mild flavor. Both entrees - the Beijing Chicken and the Curried Tofu - were excellent! We got them with the crispy cauliflower and veggie fried rice. All good portions, too. The dessert cakes were matcha cake and passionfruit cake. The matcha cake didn't really taste like matcha but it was good! Passionfruit cake was very sweet but had a good flavor. It's a nice spot but I do think a bit overpriced for what you're getting. Also note - they automatically put 20% tip on the bill and the service wasn't the best, which is why is docked a star despite the food being decent. read more

I've always heard people talking about Philippe Chow over the years and how it is a super popular hot spot. I did the research and they are very pricey (and I just refuse to pay that kind of money for Chinese food). It's one of those spots that lots of New Yorkers have on their "To Do" list. It's sexy and ultra chic. I was browsing the current selection of restaurants participating in NY Restaurant Week and to my surprise Philippe Chow (both downtown and uptown locations) were on the list. I made a reservation for the Meatpacking location right after work and there were very few people inside when I arrived so I'm assuming they opened up not too long before I arrived. The space is large and absolutely beautiful. I was seated immediately. Maxx was my server and he was polite and provided wonderful customer service during my time there. I only had water because it was only Wednesday and I try not to drink alcohol while it's still early in the week (unless it's a special occasion). Besides, the cocktails are super expensive anyway (I'm talking $20+) so even if I wanted to drink I could wait until I got home. I scanned the Restaurant Week menu ($45 for a three course meal). For the first course I chose the chicken satay. I was told it's one of the most popular appetizers as it is served in a bed of Chef Chow's famous peanut sauce. All I can say is WOW!!! The chicken was so tender and juicy. That peanut sauce is otherworldly, like I need an entire bottle of it. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they give you only two skewers (because it's the Restaurant Week menu) whereas the regular menu states three per order. Of course they don't tell you that. I had to inquire about it once my plate came out and I only saw two. Ugh! For my second course I ordered the crispy beef (comes in a sweet orange/carrot sauce). I selected the vegetable fried rice with it. They went perfect together. The vegetable fried rice was light and perfectly seasoned. The crispy beef was good overall and the sauce was delish (although some of the beef pieces were a bit tough/chewy). For dessert (third course) I ordered the red velvet cake. Not the best I've had but it was pretty good. A nice serving size to complete a delicious dinner. I took another star off because I don't like the fact that they charge an automobile 20% gratuity regardless of how many people are at the table. I was dining alone. I would give them another try in the future (but only for Restaurant Week). read more

Went for restaurant week this year and we opted for the 45 dollar option. It was three of us and we had to pay mandatory gratuity of 20 percent which hiked the bill up to 68. The resurgent is very beautiful nest clean. The service is second to none. There is staff everywhere with whatever you need whenever you need it. Philippe Downtown is our first choice for restaurant week summer 2021. This place is in the basement with few outdoor tables options. We came slightly early to our reservation but were seated in no time at all. It's a 3-course dinner for $39, for the starter I selected chicken satay and my partner chose vegetable Lo Mein with a suggested bottle of Rosé. It did not take long and they served the appetizers. The chicken Satay was delicious, however as I picked up the chicken satay stick from the plate the server behind me immediately took the plate with the "famous" sate sauce left and run away with it. So we never get to taste the special sauce this restaurant is boasting about. (In fairness, he asked if he can take the plate away but it was gone before we could answer) The filet mignon beef and crispy beef were both delicious and filling although again the side dishes were cleared before we could finish. We felt rushed the entire time and the service felt transactional, not genuine and no warmth. It really did not feel very welcoming. Why so cold?! It's the middle of summer! read more
