Let's start with the moment you walk into the restaurant. The beautiful decor - the lanterns on the ceiling and the infinity mirrors - nice touch!!! Then you get to the host stand and you're greeted by well dressed hosts - now you feel the class in the air! You're seated at the table and you see beautiful well dressed people and you know this is going to be a special night. Then the server comes by and tells you the story of the menu and what we should try. I don't think I even read the menu. I just trusted the server and I was not disappointed. The Food was great - the Peking Duck was the star of the show - Moist with Crispy Skin. The Wagyu steak was just out of this world. And then the Pork Dumplings come and you can't get enough---but why only 6? I want more!!!! The highlight though was when the manager comes by and talks about the spectacular wine list, which I must say came as a surprise. I did not expect this kind of class in Nashville...maybe in New York or San Francisco, but I was pleasantly surprised! We had a great conversation and despite his strong Italian accent, he seemed like he was from Nashville. We were so full but we had to try the baked Alaska!! Again, we were not disappointed! We've been to other nice places in Nashville, and we don't get this kind of service and food/drinks. People are usually badly dressed and rowdy. It is a turn off but this place definitely did it right. We will definitely be back for more. read more

I have been here twice over the last few months and had okay experiences both time. The first time I came with a friend and the second time with a larger group for an event. The vibe of the place is elevated, but in a slightly more old-school manner. The service both times was great with staff being attentive and kind. Now for the food and drinks. I have had the following: - Pink Jade: this is a light and refreshing drink that I adored so much I made sure to get it the second time I went. The highlight of the meals both times. - Steamed Dumplings (vegetable, chicken, pork): these were pretty underwhelming honestly, which is surprising because I tend to like almost all the dumplings I eat, but this was an exception. The pork and chicken dumplings were decent, but the vegetable dumplings left a lot to be desired unfortunately. - Beef and Chicken Satay: relatively good with tender meat and a tasty peanut sauce, but difficult to eat off the skewers and the presentation made it look very un-appetizing. - Pear & Arugula Salad: one of my favorite dishes. the arugula was crisp with a nice peppery taste and there was also delicious sweetness and crunch from the walnuts. would recommend - Vegetarian Fried Rice: good, but nothing special - Tableside Peking Duck: loved that they carved this table side and that the meat was tender, but overall I found this to be nothing too special and not something I would get again. Felt like it lacked some seasoning and was not worth he price - Nine Seasons Spicy Prawns: these were good, one of the better items we had - Kung Pao Chicken: this was great with just a touch of spice to it, until I bit into a pepper/seed which absolutely lit my mouth on fire and limited my ability to eat more for about 10 minutes after. Not every bite had the same level of spice and that inconsistency was annoying. Would not get this again. - Sweet & Sour Chicken: a good dish, tangy sauce with tender chicken that was definitely a crowd pleaser. - Filet and Green Beans: good, nothing too special. - Steamed Broccoli Descriptors: buttery and fresh, pretty good Overall, I thought some dishes were good, while others were quite disappointing and I definitely don't think the food is worth the price tag. Also at these prices, I would expect the presentation of the food to be much better than it was, but as you can see from the pictures, the presentation leaves a lot to be desire. The food here is amazing. I travel a lot and I've been to the ones in DC and NY and I have to say, the flavors here are on par! It's like a little piece of NY in Nashville. Then you get to the decor and service who I have to say is the best out of all of them! 5 out of 5 on everything. Cocktails were great and even the bathrooms were very nice. Fantastic dining experience with a great vibe! The food and service both were exceptional. I tried the Miso Salmon and my wife got the Steak and green beans. We shared and also had crispy Brussels sprouts and other sides. For dessert we tried the baked Alaska with table side service turning it on fire! Worth the splurge! Location in Cummins station. The parking lot across the street. After validation it was under $10. The Asian aesthetic beautiful. Party of 5 had reservation and we still waited 20mins to be seated. While finally we got to be seated our server waiter was a positive nice energetic waiter. But then after reviewing our menu our guy had to take care of some other table which took another 20mins. Our group was beyond ready to eat and waiting patiently to place our drink and food order. Once food got ordered it came out within 15mins. Plates are made to share family style. We ordered a few dishes and I will say my favorite dish was the kung pao chicken. The spicy sauce it came with so good combination to go with our buk choy veggies and rice. Upon arrival I was left speechless interior design, the ambiance and decor was truly top tier. My guest and I noticed that the dress code wasn't really a standard as there were tables in athletic wear, gym shoes and sneakers. Our server also wasn't super knowledgeable of the menu and recommended alot of generic dishes but not much of a personal touch. Love the decor and the ambiance. There was 3 ppl total in my party. We sat at the bar until our table was ready and it took us a minute to get seated, even with a reservation. Our waiter more than made up for the rocky start bc he was amazing and so was the food. We wanted to try a little bit of everything so we ordered a little bit of everything. We had a great experience at Philippe Chow and will definitely be back. The ambiance and decor were beautiful--upscale, stylish, and perfect for a date night. It felt lively but still comfortable. The service stood out! Our waitress was attentive, kind, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. She mentioned the meal would be paced out, but it came with the yellowtail crudo first, followed by everything else arriving at once. While not ideal, her friendliness made up for it. Our favorite dish of the night was the yellowtail crudo--slightly sweet with great flavor. Everything we ordered was good, though we'd want to try new dishes next time. The Brussels sprouts were solid (Jonathan wasn't a fan of the breadcrumbs), and I really enjoyed the chicken lo mein. The 9 Seasons spicy prawns were large (6 per order) and a close second favorite, while the Kung Pao chicken was well cooked with a slight kick. Portion sizes were very generous, and each protein dish comes with a side of white rice. With five dishes, we had plenty of leftovers--about two dishes per person is more than sufficient. The warm lemongrass hand towels at the end were a nice touch, and our waitress surprised us with two glasses of champagne for date night, which was very thoughtful. I've passed by the Chow location in NYC dozens of times, and never felt drawn to dine there. But the Nashville location. The Nashville location! Hello beautiful. The decor is chic and modern. The service is lovely. (Sandra was a fabulous server) And the food is elevated Chinese as it should be done. Get the Peking Duck. Incredible. Dumplings. Fried Rice. 10/10. Best part of the experience was the service. Isabel was great and Isaiah was very on top of things. Ambiance is okay. Believe it or not the section past the bar was the most calm & cozy. Now the food. I concur with other reviewers in that the food was just okay. The best thing I had was the pear & arugula salad. If I return, it will be just for that. No gluten free bread service from what I could tell. The walnut prawns were cooked well but, bland. No depth of flavor at all. Kind of crazy for an Asian restaurant. It was nice that they were able to make a modified gluten-free version of their chocolate mousse cake. This was pretty good. Just too rich to finish. Two words: Peking duck (or Baked Alaska)! This place is incredible IF you know what to order. Cocktail selections were great, specifically the Lychee Martini and The Stogie. Service was top notch and we loved the tableside serving of the duck as well as the baked alaska dessert. IMO you can't go to Philippe Chow and skip out on the duck. It's the iconic dish and lives up to its reputation. *Must request 72 hours in advance* All selections from the raw bar were favorites among our group. Vibes are cozy and very private in the back of the restaurant. Dumplings are a heavy, dense dumpling (not soup dumplings). Fried rice was good but small serving for $18. While in town, my wife made reservations for us to check out Philippe Chow. The ambiance is really nice and gives good aesthetics. We were seated promptly. I do encourage you to have a reservation as this restaurant is very busy. Our waitress was very attentive. We order vegetables demolishing, spring rolls, chicken lo mein and shrimp fried rice. I didn't get a picture of the lo mein and shrimp friend rice. The food is really the typical Chinese. I would consider this place the tallest midget of Chinese in Nashville. A 3.5 would be more accurate rating IMO. The rating knockers for me were cost, serving size, ingredients. The restaurant is very nice, comfortable and the staff is what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant. Prices are 3x what they should be from a pure food standpoint. For example, go to SF Chinatown or Go to Roast Duck Kitchen in Honolulu and you will pay less than $30 for a superior Duck. Here you need to pre-order and pay $120. Nash isn't full of roast duck options and you pay for it. Most of the duck cost is presentation. They do an AWESOME job, table side. Note, there is a lot of prep work like hanging, skin separation, air drying, etc. hence you pre order. You can take the uncarved duck home with you but since I was going to a Ryman show afterwards, had to leave it behind. We also had a $28 yellow tail crude with about 4 oz of YT. The dressing was subtle and let the fish shine through but unfortunately the YT wasn't great. Ours was cut from the top back behind the dorsal fin towards the tail. Not the best meat on a YT. I'm a fisherman that specifically fishes for west coast YT in the fall when their fat content is at their highest. If eaten day 1 or 2 raw, it is one of the best things you will put in your mouth. YT is my standard for any place that serves raw fish and because of the days it takes from boat to restaurant kitchen, very tough to find good in Nash. The entrees we ordered were fried rice, kung pao, Brussels, all of which were really like tapas sized and nothing spectacular. Kung pao was like a dish of general Tao chicken that mated with a peanut plant. There was no signature flavor you expect from black vinegar to make it have that kung pao essence. I visited Philippe Chow Nashville last Saturday with a 7:45 PM reservation. When we checked in, we were informed there was an overbooking issue and that the wait would be about 45 minutes. Unfortunately, many other guests with reservations were also waiting, and the front lobby became very crowded. We were finally seated around 9 PM. Since it's Dine Nashville month and we were excited to try the restaurant, we planned to take advantage of the special menu. However, when we began ordering appetizers, our waiter informed us that some items were already sold out. I initially wanted the chicken satay, but it wasn't available, so I ordered the beef satay instead. The flavor was good, but the meat was fairly tough. For my entrée, I chose the miso salmon. When it arrived, I noticed it was lukewarm. As if it may have been sitting up. The center was warm, but it definitely did not feel freshly prepared or piping hot, which is how I prefer my meals. Dessert was also a bit confusing. The options were the chef's special or chocolate mousse cake, but we were told the chocolate mousse cake was sold out. The waiter mentioned the chef had substituted it with "something caramel," though he wasn't sure what it was and said he would check. He never followed up and instead brought out the chef's special. We had to ask again about the substitution, and he later returned to let us know it was a caramel pecan cheesecake, which we ended up choosing. Overall, it felt like an off night. Our waiter mentioned he hadn't worked in a week. It may have been the largest crowd they've had since opening. It was disappointing that several menu items were sold out and that service felt a bit unorganized. I ordered the Lychee Martini which was really good. Update 1/11/26-I'm worried about the resto's long term viability. We came back Sunday night for a repeat meal; at 6 p.m., regrettably, there were out of every dumpling on the menu except shrimp. Since one member of our party had a not-uncommon shellfish allergy, there were no dumplings for us. They then brought out the Peking Duck, and, as expected, carved it table side. Inexplicably, after carving the breasts, they took the entire rest of the duck where we never saw the hindquarters; having paid for the whole duck, is it unreasonable to expect to be able to eat the whole duck? I hope that they make it, but I have a bad feeling about them given this experience. read more

I had read many reviews both on Yelp and on the Nashville Food Facebook. The reviews were very mixed with some loving this place and others having disappointing experiences. I wanted to believe the issues were due to it being new and figuring things out. Thus, I waited to go until they had time to work out the kinks. I was so excited to go as I love Peking Duck and the other places in Nashville that had it closed. We went with a group of 6 including one vegetarian and one pre-teen. We started with drinks, the Espresso Martini was very sweet and had vanilla flavor in it. I had the Philippetini, it was fine, but the server described it as a beachy fruity drink, odd for Chinese food, but I went ahead and ordered it. it Was not very fruity at all. We then told them we wanted to order the duck and put in our appetizer orders. Out of their three types of dumplings, they were out of two, including the vegetarian one which was unfortunate for the vegetarian in our group. The waitress also told us how good their dumplings are before telling us they were out. We got the Chicken dumpling, the only one they had, and it was really the only good food I had that night. We also ordered the vegetarian spring roll and the duck spring roll. I tried the duck one, it was find but really didn't taste like much. We also go their brussels salad, I didn't try it but the others seemed to like it. I ordered the chicken satay. It was so weird and off putting. The chicken was a reddish orange and had a strange texture, the peanut sauce was a light cream color. The chicken made me think of artificial crab. It was not appealing, and I couldn't eat it. The vegetarian go the Vegetable Lo Mein Noodles, Fried Rice and the Green Beans. I tried both. I have had better Lo Mein from the food court at the mall. There was barely a vegetable in the Lo Mein. Both the Lo Mein and Fried Rice were cold when we got them. The Green Beans were the worst. It was like they forgot to put the sauce on them. We did send those back and the ones the replaced them with were only slightly better. Other people in our group got the Kung Pao and the Sweet and Sour chicken, I did not try those so I can't comment on taste. The waitress told us the dishes were for two people, it was not enough for two they were individual sized servings. The pre teen got the Miso Salmon and did seem to enjoy their dish. We were then served the Peking Duck. They do a nice job with the presentation and carving of it. But something just did not taste right. I love peking duck and have in the past had a half to myself. I put two pieces of the duck on the rice wrapper with the sauces and vegetables. It was not very good, I forced myself to each a second as I was the one who insisted we order it. The texture and flavor of the Duck was just off. No one else at the table went for a second helping. On our drive home we just talked about how awful our meal was. You can tell they have put so much money into opening this restaurant and we were excited to go. When we got home we did call the restaurant to tell them they need to be tasting the food they are sending out of their kitchen. We know other people who went two night before us and had a great experience. So I don't know if they had a C Team in the kitchen the night we went or what would make our experience so different than hers. I truly hope the restaurant learns from these reviews, addresses the issues and improve the experience for future guests. I would like to have good Peking Duck in Nashville. read more

Overall my service was okay, upon my arrival we were seated at a small table, which was not feasible with multiple small plates and drinks... after the back and forth with trying to accommodate seating they were able to find a table (not sure why the table was an option, especially when reservations were made far in advance) When we were seated we ordered several options including: crispy veggie spring rolls (delicious), mushrooms ( not recommended), orange chicken (yummy) , steak (cooked to perfection) , fried rice (average - we were informed the Nashville location did not have spring fried rice which was disappointing), and lo mein loved) Definitely recommend! read more

I will start off by saying the service was top notch, our server, I believe his name was Justin was phenomenal. We ordered the pork dumplings and beef satay to start, both were great. The dumplings were flavorful and the dipping sauce was tangy very nice combination. The Beef satay was lovely, the beef was tender and the peanut sauce on top was rich and flavorful. Then we ordered entrees, we did the Beijing chicken, Kung Pao chicken and the steak with green beans. All 3 dishes were ok, nothing bad but nothing special. For an upscale restaurant I expected more. The kung pao had a nice spice to it which sometimes you don't get, but this had a little heat. The Beijing chicken was more sweet and unforgettable. The steak and green beans were fine but lacked flavor. The meat was tender and the beans were crisp just nothing special. Overall, I'd say it was a good experience. However the food did not wow me in flavor but it did in presentation. So if you are an Instagram person there for the pictures and vibes then Philippe is your restaurant but if you are a true foodie there for the bites I feel you will be disappointed. The ambiance was beautiful and the food was amazing. It was the best sweet and sour chicken I've ever had. They also have fun cocktails, delicious appetizers, and we had great service. The only negative is for a restaurant this nice, the women's bathroom was very dirty. There were paper towels all over the floor and dirty toilets. One of the three toilets was out of order. Had reservations for a party of 2 on a Saturday night at 6:15. Arrived a few minutes early and we were alerted right away. The first thing we noticed was that the table for 2 was very small, especially since they recommend ordering family style(shared plates). The table for 2 is so small they would only bring one plate at a time which caused the courses to come out slowly. We had the yellowtail crudo and pork dumplings to start. Both were good, not spectacular but good. We also had the $120 duck cut tableside and the pork belly. The duck was our favorite by far, I would come back only for the duck. Perfectly crispy skin, plum sauce and the wrappers together were the star of the meal. I would recommend not skipping this if you visit. The pork belly was very good too but not at the level of the duck. There was a cucumber kimchi type slaw that was with the pork belly which really helped cut the fattiness of the pork belly. For dessert we had the baked Alaska and this was not good. When they light the cotton candy on fire it adds an undesirable taste to the entire desire(burnt sugar). Overall we had a great experience, suggestions to the restaurant would be to change the table size of a two top, if you can't bring multiple plates at a family style restaurant it takes away from the concept. Arrival: I parked across the street thinking I was saving money. The lot was $18 but somehow came out to $19.67 after tax (don't ask me how I know). In hindsight, I should have just gone with the $20 valet. Save yourself the trouble and do that instead. Entry & Ambiance: As soon as you walk in, the space feels intentional with elegant lighting, striking fixtures, and a warm energy that sets the tone for the evening. The host team greeted us right away with smiles. Even without a reservation, we managed to grab two seats at the bar, which ended up being a great spot. Service: Although we were seated at the bar, we received full dining service with proper place settings, thoughtful touches, and great attention from the bartender. He went above and beyond when my friend ordered a nonalcoholic drink. The first one came out tasting more like juice, but he found a zero-proof spirit and remade it perfectly. That kind of effort says a lot about how accommodating the restaurant is. I had a strawberry margarita (or two), which were perfectly balanced and easy to sip. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and attentive. When we asked where the bathroom was, a staff member actually walked us there instead of just pointing in the general direction, which really stood out. They even offered to take our photo at the end of the meal, which was such a nice touch and made the night feel special. Food: We kept things light but wanted to try a few dishes. Yellowtail Crudo: The standout. Sweet, tangy, perfectly marinated, and incredibly fresh. My only complaint is that I wanted more of it. Chicken Satay: Probably my least favorite. The peanut sauce was too thick and the chicken was a little lukewarm. I would try it again but ask for the sauce on the side. Pear & Arugula Salad: Excellent. The Chinese pear adds a crisp, refreshing bite. I skipped the blue cheese, which might have actually improved the dish. Whole Red Snapper with Spicy Bouillabaisse: Fantastic. The fish was well-seasoned and tender, and the sauce complemented it perfectly. Despite the name, it was not overly spicy, just flavorful. Overall: When you are paying for a higher-end meal, you want to feel like the restaurant cares about the food, the presentation, and the overall experience. In my opinion, Philippe Chow absolutely does. The satay missed the mark a bit, but everything else, including the service, drinks, and atmosphere, made up for it. A+ experience as soon as we stepped in the door. Smiling and positive Tammy led us to our table, and service from Mike was probably the most energetic, uplifting, and professional dinner service I've ever had! With my many questions, he either answered them, or excused himself to find the answer for me. When I asked about sake, he went to the bar manager, Jacob, who very quickly came to our table to share the options. The tall blonde drink server was also extremely polite. The food was served quickly, and from the salmon crudo to the duck spring rolls to the mushroom congee to the Wagyu, we were delighted! Ambiance:7/10: it's trendy. The music was a tad loud. We were in their "private dining room" the smaller two person tables were close and had trouble fitting the food on it. Service:6/10 Average- they had a lot of staff. Plates were cleared and per usual experience Food: 4/10. I feel like my mistake was not going for the Peking Duck. It was very popular and we wanted to try some other dishes as well. Scallion Milk Bread with house XO butter- fluffy and nice flavor. Duck Spring Rolls- Okay. Nothing special. As expected. Could have been elevated with a garnish like some kind of water crest Wagu Steak: honestly, curious if it was truly wagu. tasked like regular strip serloin with a gravy that was underwhelming. Blistered shishito peppers on top. Walnut Prawns- you get 6. nothing special, I tend to like mine a little more on the sweet side and less actual mayo flavor. Bok Choy. Underwhelming. I really enjoyed my first visit to Philippe Chow and am thrilled to have some excellent Chinese food in Nashville! We came in for my BF's birthday and the place was decorated for the holidays which was great. The space is huge and they also have some great photo op spots up front that was a lot of fun. Our server was great and helped us with the menu. The lychee martini was excellent and I asked for it less sweet which was the right move. It came out perfect! For food we ordered the tuna crudo, pork dumplings and duck egg rolls. The egg rolls were my favorite of the 3. The tuna was a little tough and the avocado not quite ripe, which is a bummer because the sauces and other parts of the dish were very good. For entrees we had the kung pao and sweet & spicy chicken with a side of bok choy. The kung pao was my favorite, and while the bok choy was well-seasoned and cooked nicely, I am just not a big fan of the vegetable and wouldn't order it again. We ended the night with a birthday chocolate mousse which was excellent and delicious! I will definitely be back with a group to try the Peking duck tableside! read more

We had a fine dining experience at the bar with AJ and Billy. AJ and Billy were very attentive and professional. After reading the reviews we had to have the duck spring rolls that were delicious. Next was the chicken and shrimp fried rice along with sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was drowning in a thick deep red sauce. All were good but far from the Chinese food I dream of from when I lived in New England. read more
