I came here because i need ground pork and the other grocery store is out of it and I'm so lucky that I they have it here. Another deserving high quality spot for AAPI Heritage month! PhilHouse is located inside Island Pacific supermarket. This spot serves delicious, fresh Filipino food. I've been here many times and always pickup food here. This store is always clean and very well organized with a nice decor inside and plenty of parking. On this trip, I got a combo plate with chop suey, pancit and rice, and sinigang (which is a classic Filipino sour soup known for its tamarind-based broth with vegetables). It's raining today and maybe overcast. I wanted to focus on chores at the house, so I ordered Door Dash. I ordered from PhilHouse. I ordered the 2 combo: pork adobo, chicken adobo with two scoops of steamed rice. I also was craving deep fried Pompano Fish. I didnt realize that this was a lot of food for just myself. I had to eat half of it and plan to eating the other half later. The Pompano Fish, I ate a few bites. PORK ADOBO It was pretty good. I didnt think I would like it but this was the best one other than the chicken adobo. This tastes really good. Seasoned wonerfully and the flavors were on point. I ate ALMOST the entire tub. CHICKEN ADOBO This one was good but I was not a fan of it. Maybe because I've had a distate for chicken. So don't take my word for it about chicken adobo. It was AY OK. STEAMED RICE It was made perfectly. FRIED POMPANO I think I've ordered way too much food, so I took little bites eating this fish. I actually enjoyed it. Then I remember that Im more familar eating this type of fish in Sinigang Soup. The fish was not greasy. Overall, I enjoyed my food. It took a while for it to make it to south south of Elk Grove. Phil House is located about maybe in North East part of Elk Grove near Calvine- Elk Grove Florin. Door Dash did a good job having the food delivered. Next time Ill go in and buy their Pinakbet. Inside Island Pacific Supermarket is where they sell filipino food combinations. I got the pork barbecue combo with pancit and rice. The pork bbq was huge and actually cooked well. The pancit was a little bland and the lady was nice enough to give me garlic fried rice instead of white rice. read more

So grateful they were open yesterday despite it being Easter Sunday. I traveled all day and skipped lunch. I made it to PhilHouse just in time to grab a meal. They offer 3 options (one, two or three ulams which you could get either rice or pancit with, pancit is Filipino style chowmein or half and half of both). I chose the two option one since I wanted to take home some leftovers. I chose pinakbet which is a vegetarian dish with squash, string beans, eggplants and bittermelon. I also chose chicken barbecue in a skewer. They were gonna close for the day in about an hour so the lady ended up giving me an extra chicken barbecue! Score! The dipping vinegar is really tasty too. This is a casual hot food eatery located inside Island Market. The lot is on the small side but I've never had trouble finding parking and there's a larger lot nearby to use as well. Food wise, I've had the pork skewer, pancit bihon, beef bistec, pork bihol express, and fried tilapia. My least favorites were the tilapia (too plain and all I could taste was fish) and the bistec (too salty). I enjoyed everything else though. I like their combo plates with all-pancit (though you can get half and half with rice), especially the kaldereta (upcharge for beef), kare-kare and BBQ pork skewers (chicken are OK). Be warned that sisig is charged by the pound and not just the size of the container! Their grilled/fried items such as jeprox, smelt, pompano, tilapia, squid, or happork/kapalmuks (pig face) are more specialty. Not usually a breakfast person here though. Recently, ordered some party trays for pickup: pancit and mixed BBQ chicken and pork skewers to complement our other order from another place: kaldereta, fresh lumpia sariwa, and dessert tray (karioka, turon, palitaw, kutsinta, maja blanca). To be honest, I would have preferred the kaldereta from PhilHouse and maybe some fried lumpia shanghai too. The pancit came with some pieces of lechon on top, but no lemon/citrus on the side. I visited with my boyfriend, who doesn't speak Tagalog, and when he asked the server a simple question, she responded with an attitude, making him feel like he was in the wrong for asking. To make things worse, she then started speaking negatively about us to her coworker right in front of us in Tagalog thinking I didn't understand. I chose to bite my tongue, but it was definitely disheartening. Not only was it rude and uncalled for, but it also reflects poorly on our people. Whenever I crave good Filipino food, I go to PhilHouse. Sadly, there aren't too many options in the immediate Sacramento area. However, I am more than happy with their quality and selection. I have my tried and true favorites: pork adobo, beef kaldereta, bistek, pork BBQ stick and pork sinigang. These are my go to. When I get up early enough on the weekends, they might have breakfast still available. I love their longanisa and corned beef silogs. Service can be hit or miss, depending on how busy it is. But the staff are attentive, efficient and very polite. Prices have gone up incrementally, but a 2 or 3 item combo with rice or pansit is still a pretty good deal. I love the aunties who give proper morning greetings in Tagalog! I always feel so bad when I respond in English. The breakfast combo is 100% worth every penny. Two scoops of garlic rice, egg, plus two choices of meats for $12!!! Went with Tocino and Tapas. Don't forget to ask for a side of vinegar to dip! They have about 6 tables for diners. I just had a kiosk experience with cancelling orders. Yesterday we ordered food worth $201.00 Unexpectedly due to weather condition (prospected rain) this Friday, the event is cancelled. Today (Monday), I went to PhilHouse to cancel the order. But I was told that I have to talk to their manager because cancellation isn't allowed. I have also been told to just trasfer it to another date if I have another party at home . Or else they will be ended up paying for the charge of food that has been ordered. I was shocked. First of all the food isn't cooked yet. Secondly, they never disclose upfront about "No Cancellation" rule when we made the transaction. Purchased food from this location a little after 7:30 pm. The server greeted me with a dirty look and what do you want. That is not how you greet people. I complained to the cashier who apologized for the server's behavior. That is not sufficient for me. Management needs to make sure that customer service is good no matter what people look like. It's also perfect for when shopping makes you hungry, but you don't have the patience to cook, which often happens to me. ATMOSPHERE: They have a few booths and tables for seating. There's a long line of food options to choose from. It's in a grocery market, but it's fairly spacious compared to other small restaurants. They have pretty modern and clean looking furniture and decor. During Covid, they had closed the seating. Now they have a few tables open for limited seating. We usually do grab and go either way. It can get crazy busy on the weekends, which is not ideal. I tried ordering DoorDash for lunch on a Saturday and it was a mess. I ended up waiting for over an hour only to end up having to contact DD to cancel the order. If it's a weekend, I'd recommend going there directly rather than doing delivery. SERVICE: Some staff members are nicer than others. My experience overall has been fairly neutral. FOOD: I love their crispy food section! Their Chicken Skins and Crispy Pata are two of my favorites. For the regular ulam (entree), I love their Beef Kaldereta! Beef is the more pricey of the meats, but I would definitely say this was worth the extra money. My first time trying this cute cafe inside a market. I wanted crispy pata and I wasn't disappointed. A generous pork trotter boiled and fried crispy, it came with a sweet and tangy sauce. It was all the things I like about roasted pork with an excellent crackling.
