I had one of the worst car-buying experiences at this dealership. They manipulated the mileage numbers during negotiation and promised a discount that was tied to inaccurate mileage reporting (7,500 miles). They kept switching numbers around to confuse the deal. I caught the discrepancy and managed to get a fair price in the end -- but that wasn't the end of it. They also promised to refund the overpayment from my previous car's payoff, but after the deal was done, they completely denied that promise. Now they're refusing to take any responsibility or issue the refund. On top of all that, the customer service was disrespectful and dismissive. What started as an exciting purchase turned into frustration and disappointment. I've completely lost trust in this dealership -- and honestly, in Acura as a brand. On March 14, 2025 I brought my wife's ACURA RDX 2021 for regular oil change and tire rotation to the PHIL SMITH ACURA dealership located at 940 N Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach, FL. At that time the car's front tire on the passenger side had a very small air leak, which caused a pressure drop from 33psi to 29psi and required adding air once a week in order to bring it back to 33psi. I decided not to bring this issue to the service department's attention and replace the stem valve myself first to see if it helps. After service was done, I took the car back home and in a couple of days realized that my front tire on the passenger side still had the same air leak (I had not replaced the stem valve yet). Hence, the tires were not rotated at the time of the oil change. One week later I brought my ACURA back to PHIL SMITH ACURA for - RDX seat weight sensor safety recall and asked service advisor Jon-Luc Rivero to explain why I have air leak in the same tire in the same location. No intelligible explanation was given, which brought me to an understanding that I was charged for tire rotation service, but service was not done. I recently had an appointment at the Kia Service Center, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. I had scheduled my appointment the day before and arrived on time at noon. However, I ended up waiting for over an hour and a half before anyone even acknowledged my presence. When someone finally approached me, they seemed unaware of the purpose of my visit, despite having all the necessary information and keys. This lack of communication and organization is unacceptable and extremely frustrating for customers. Horrible experience at Phil Smith. My advice is buy your car somewhere else. I felt taken advantage of at every opportunity. Multiple mistakes and oversights were made, always in their favor when buying a 3 YO Acura 1) Bill of Sale error and omissions that It took 3 months to get refunded, over 10 calls made to 4 different people to resolve. a. I gave them a certified payoff amount for my old car, when I received the final paperwork four days later they padded what they said they sent to my bank $500. b. There was a secret warranty bundled in with other line items. Not listed at all! I never knew about it or agreed to it. I only discovered it as the math didn't make sense. 2. My Acura car jack & tool kit was missing. I discovered this after I took delivery two days later as this is under a flap in the trunk. Told "As-Is means as is!" You would think a $30,000 car would come this or the Parts Department would step up, but not in my case. 3. Rear Bumper not attached to frame. Hardware missing. You think Phil Smith would reimburse me my cost to fix this mistake? Another Acura dealership charged me $75 to fix this despite the car being under warranty. Thank for repainting my bumper but you forgot a few things. This could have been an issue in an accident 4. Three outstanding Recalls at the time of the purchase. "Thanks for buying this Acura, after you pick it up please make an appointment to bring it back to fix these items." You couldn't fix those in the week you held the car? read more

Beware of written communication that says..."The price we can offer you...is below." See picture. This in fact is not the price, the price is $10k higher before the normal things you expect such as tax and registration. And when you click the button for details, nope it is not listed there either. Pretty deceptive communication. Be sure to call and ask for all that's missing from their "offers" before you go to the dealer for an unpleasant surprise. Why not just be transparent? They seem to have a unique definition of price. To most its the price of the car they are willing to accept and then of course tax, registration and processing. At this dealership price excludes added dealer markup....I'm pretty sure that fails the "reasonable person" test. Update: Just talked with the GM and Internet manager. You can't rely on the written offer (pic attached) or even the "click here for detailed pricing" to know the actual price of the car. You have to take a third step to initiate the purchase and provide them personal information before they will tell you the actual price of the car. They did say it's more transparent when you come to the dealer and see the stickers on the car. If you are shopping for a car via the website....be very careful to get all the details. I'd like to say "get them in writing" but as you can see by the picture that can't be relied on. I am sure they will post a reply that says hot cars get dealer mark ups. We asked if putting down MORE cash would entice them to flex on the $1,000 dealer fee and they basically said they didn't want our money. We bought a MDX and couldn't be happier with the experience at Phil Acura. Our salesman's name was Andrew. He was very personable and didn't try to convince us to buy something we weren't there for. When I asked, we were informed up from that there was a nonnegotiable dealer fee, which I appreciated. I don't care for miscellaneous charges aka dealer fees, but at least I knew what I was getting into from the start. Plus it wasn't an over the top fee. This is bait-and-switch pricing at a minimum, and sounds like deceptive trade practices to me - to take advantage of someone's time negotiating and then disclose $1,500 in fees at the last moment? SEE ATTACHED PICS I have always been annoyed by dealers who tack on last-minute surcharges on a deal, well after the price for a vehicle has been negotiated. Typically these are a trap for inexperienced buyers to over-pay for a car when they don't know any better, and a salesperson will often insist that these fees are typical, customary, or required. They're not. Do your homework - anything over $150 "doc fee" is excessive. $1,500 is absurd. -- UPDATE: I noticed that another Yelper was caught off-guard and upset when they didn't notice these fees until after they bought a car. Thankfully I caught this on my Buyer's Order prior to paying any money. So, I emailed GM Charlie Myers who responded to that Yelper's negative review, as he seemed to be concerned that an error was made. My email to Charlie: "Charlie, I noticed that someone else on Yelp was upset by your dealership's exorbitant surcharges on a used vehicle transaction, and you responded with concern (see pic). It appears I'm having the exact same problem (attached), and would sincerely appreciate your attention toward this issue for me. The salesman and manager set me up lied to me about a 2023 till after they had me sign the paperwork when my registration was already transferred to the new Acura It is the the shortest time I have ever had a new car les than 5 months. They lie about there fees the say there $999 and then they add another $500.00 for finance fees. Called to get a out the door invoice on a car, I live far from the dealership so wanted just a basic out the door figure on a car on their lot as I wanted shopping around and asked other dealerships including Doral and pembroke to send me out the door invoices too. The other dealers did it with no issue or problems, it saves me time and money without having to go to the dealership and spend hours there just to get a basic estimate of the car. They said it doesn't make sense to them to send me an invoice because I was shopping around and would be less likely to use them. Basic customer service if your sales rep is free and I ask for a basic out the door quote to be sent this shouldn't be an issue as other dealerships who mind you are just as far from me didn't hesitate to send me an invoice. I was asked for my insurance information and told that my temporary registration will be handled and taken care of by them in January, that they will send it to their DMV department. I check now with them bc I have been out of state and they never sent my information to the DMV. I have been unknowingly driving an unregistered car. When I email and ask questions they do not respond. I had to send a third email to receive any information and the information was INCORRECT, careless and half assed. They then tell me I have to go to the dmv myself and act extremely nonchalant like nothing has gone wrong. They pretty much stole my boyfriends trade. He bought a 2015 Honda Civic that was advertised for 11,000. He was promised 300.00 for his trade. I'm reviewing the paperwork only to see that they charged him 11,400.61 for the car. 400.61 more than the original selling price. They also did not shampoo or remove the exterior scratches as promised. Please be wary when purchasing a used vehicle from these folks. They seem like some true snakes in the grass. *** Update: they gave my boyfriend an "IOU" for 300.00, and gave us a buyers order for the original price of the vehicle. They also removed the stained from the seats. We're still waiting for the scratch removal. The interior needs a good wipe down, but I suppose I can take care of that myself. They blamed this hike in price on a "clerical error". After reading the other reviews, I really don't believe so. I look at it like this... if this guy who finalized the paperwork is adding an extra 400.00 to even just 10 deals per day unnoticed, that's an extra $4,000 in earnings for that dealership every day. Someone should really consider conducting an audit on this guys paperwork. It'd be interesting to see just how many "clerical errors" have gone unnoticed. read more

So update on this review - moved them to a three-star probably should be 2.5 from a 1 star - they fixed everything with the car at no charge- new tires - resurfaced the rotors - new battery. They did keep the car for about 5 days to get it taken care of and communication was not great on when the car would be returned to me. Had an independent mechanic look at it afterward and he said it all looked good. All I can say is WOW. I have never had such a crazy and bad car buying experience. I purchased a "certified" preowned TLX with very low miles. The salesperson I was dealing with on Sunday quit on Monday morning before I could even take delivery Monday afternoon. I negotiated the out-the-door price because they just keep upping fees and they are out of hand at this point. Why am I paying $1500 for them to process a vehicle? That is why there is a wholesale and a retail price. I just let them add it now and negotiate on the price out the door. When they printed up the paper it was not the price we had negotiated out the door it was $1250 more. They had added gap insurance at and rate well above the open market rate and another 200 for something else still not sure what. The salesperson that quit had promised window tint, new floor mats, and to have the tires checked out. The tint was never mentioned to the finance department so when I came in the next day it was an issue. To their credit, they did say they would do the window tint. We will see. I still paid $200 more than the negotiated price. But this is not the end - remember this is a "certified" preowned Acura from an Acura dealership. It had its 122 point inspection and everything was in working order supposedly according to the paperwork. I drove it for one day and less than 50 miles and the brakes started having issues. I picked it up on Monday had to drop it at service by Thursday it was so bad. Now it magically needs $2700 dollars worth of repairs on rusted through rotors, brakes, tires plus a few other charges. How is this possible they had just double-checked the tires on Monday they said they were perfectly fine and safe to drive on? Now I need two new tires three days later? Not to mention how all the other repairs did not get flagged in the certification process? The saga continues on Friday they decided they needed to keep the car for one more day to see if they could resurface the rotors since the warranty will probably not cover. I had not heard anything back by Saturday afternoon. I called to see what was going on and if/when I could pick the car up. My service representative had left for the day and without informing me they are keeping the car till Monday. I only knew of the $2700 bill because it was sent to my email. They are going to get back to me on Monday about how to resolve all the issues. We will see how that works out. I will update this review then but for now I would give them have a Zero if I could! read more

It gives me great pleasure to write this review of Phil Smith Acura as they made this last car leasing experience the best I've ever encountered to date. Having been in the car sales business myself for almost 4 years I know the in's & out's of the process and the sales haggling that can't be avoided. In this instant I can tell you that they completely shattered the negative stereotypes that exists in the car sales business. I'd been looking to get my daughter her first car and after lots of research decided on the 2020 Acura ILX. I attempted to do business with two dealers within a 20 mile radius of my home but neither could get me close to my budgetary needs. I looked up dealers further north and discovered Phil Smith in Pompano. I called them and a salesperson named Andrew Hines answered the call. I won't bother you with the menial details but nonetheless I told Andrew what I was looking for and he had a response to me within 10 minutes. That response was exactly the one I was seeking. He was able to get me exactly the lease numbers I needed. No back and forth, no haggling and especially no GAMES. I was delighted to say the least. We made arrangements to pick the car up the following day. When we arrived, Andrew greeted us warmly as did their GSM Phil Franchina, an old school Italian guy that should have been cast in Goodfellas as one of the wise guys, maybe as Paulie's other brother who runs the pizzeria. Forgive me as I digress in my love for gangster movies. They, as well as our Finance manager Sam Power were all very kind, friendly and appreciative of our business. I want to conclude by saying that I wish that the dealers I had the misfortune of working for had even a small percentage of the professionalism, courtesy and initiative that Phil Smith Acura has; I would have made millions under that management. ((Update 11-27-19) I have now been to this dealership twice for a car that doesn't operate properly. We drove another 4 hours to see the same car after being told it was reapaired and ready for sale by Mike and Dennis. This is the worst dealership I've ever been to and can't believe I wasn't offered compensation for my time and gas after driving so many hours and miles for a car that doesn't run. Very very unprofessional for an Acura Dealer. 8 hours later of driving alone and I still haven't been able to drive the car due to reoccurring issues. )) Me and a friend drove 4 hours to see a car that had no function coming from it's turbo. After the test drive it was spewing oil smoke from either the turbo or the obviously failed head gasket. I was disappointed only because I asked if the car was ready to be sold hours before, the problem easily could have been fixed and now we no longer want the car. (2013 genesis coupe in grey) I recommend no one purchase this car. I've owned several and this one was is awful driving condition, I'm not sure how they thought they could con us into buying it. Overall the staff seemed nice but clueless. The mechanic said the issue was a boost leak when he saw the boost gaugereading negative. Negative boost is a normal condition all turbo cars experience, this man needs a refresh I think on forced induction. read more

Good old out of site out of mind. For peoples info, the original issue was 2 employees of this hack shop wanted to replace an internal engine part calling it maintenance. The part was a TIMING CHAIN. Not a timing belt. Timing chains are not a maintenance item. The cost of this would have most likely been a $2000. I luckily came out of the ether and figured out the scam. This issue with good old Phil Smith Acura is not new to me. Several times they have done less than fair work. There was a brake job that was done horribly and I ended up having to go elsewhere to fix the scam job. Yet the reason I have updated the original complaint for the 3rd time is to let people know I have never been contacted by the GM once. I left multiple phone messages for the guy and Charlie NEVER called back. This company must really not care about CSI. The intent to fraudulently put on parts seems to be the way this dealership runs it business. They must figure Acura people have the money and are too stupid to check out issues Phil's boys say are needed. I wonder if this occurs in all the stores they own? I will never attempt to find out. When I see the Phil Smith name I will figure scumbags and drive to the next dealership. And I will tell anyone and everyone I can the same. Hence this follow up. We just picked up our 4th car from Phil Smith Acura. My experience with this dealer has always been excellent! From the time I met and worked with Andrew Hines and GM Philip Franchina (over 3 years ago) they have been nothing but friendly, straight up and accommodating- no games from them. My son actually drove down 4 hours from Tampa to pick up his ILX A-Spec at Phil Smith because they gave him a much better deal. For my most recent car, we negotiated the deal- and it was not even on the lot yet. They kept their word-did not sell it out from under me and held the car until I could come pick it up. Even the service dept. is friendly and reliable. I would highly recommend this dealer to anyone looking to purchase an Acura. It is one of the few times I have not dreading going into a car dealership. On a side note- Acura's are great cars! read more
