Buying process is far different ... and let's preface that the unit was priced much higher than others in market, not negotiable, and Carmax too now adds dealer prep and handling fee in the 1000 dollar range. So we found a car outside the area. We paid the have it transported here from another Carmax. We contacted a local GM dealer and found that Carmaxs Equifax reporting (versus Carfax) was incorrect and manufacturer warranty was finished. We also found the CPO on file was never paid for original dealer and thus not in effect. Urgh .... So we reach out after hours by chat to discuss cancelling and to find out the process when they were incorrect. Not to worry, the car was on a test drive and being sold today. Didn't you see the refund pending for delivery you paid ??? What ... So in effect the delivery was paid and funds received. The car was on hold and Carmax allowed another buyer to test drive and buy a unit held for transport. Then they just refund the money and fail to alert via phone and email. Wow ! Now again we were going to cancel and all is well in end. We won't likely ever consider Carmax for a buy in future however. Bad info on cars, poor hold and transport policies, and true lack of empathy around their business model and loopholes. Just another typical car dealer experience !!! read more

We stopped at this Carmax to check out some used cars for sale and maybe test drive one or two. The way it works is that you basically have a Self-Service system here. You go to the lot and you spot what car you want to test drive and they will then set you up with the test drive. I guess it's a good system if you don't see anything you like and you don't waste a salesperson time, but I thought that was kind of odd. We walked around for about 15-20 min and did not find anything that caught our eyes. But at least we now know how it works. read more

This was an amazing experience. It was also my first time coming to CarMax. The place is huge and they have a big friendly staff. It was really easy to get here and the entrance in and out were very accessible. It is a very large location and I was surprised at just how big it was. We were immeditey greet at the door when we told them we were interested to get a price on a car. They took the car to their shop where thay have an appraiser examine it. I was told that the process would take about 30 minutes to complete. I sat down in their very sapcious lounge area and after 20 minutes they were able to give me a quote. They obviously have a huge car inventory too and it seems that many people there were in the process of purchasing a car. I bought a 2019 Cadillac Escalade from CarMax. The sales rep, Jimmy Fields, was helpful and positive throughout the process. He addressed paint imperfections and scratches before the purchase. However, after taking the vehicle home, my mechanic found several issues. CarMax fixed the paint, replaced two rims and shocks, and addressed problems with the side panel, seat, and rear passenger door. Despite my concerns, they allowed me to take the vehicle back. luckily I had a separate vehicle to help them focus on the issues. I hoped they'd resolve them, but the manager never contacted me about my concerns. Things worsened when the vehicle broke down due to engine problems. CarMax arranged for a towing company, but they towed it incorrectly, potentially causing further issues. I contacted both the towing company and my sales rep, but no one followed up. The repair representative did his best, but it looks like management prioritized saving money over customer satisfaction. After getting the vehicle the service rep was not in town no one in management came out to talk to me about the experience, and the young lady that gave me my vehicle had no idea what was going on. I quickly noticed the vehicle doesn't drive straight. I'll have to take it to a separate shop to fix these issues, which I shouldn't have to do after buying from a "reputable" dealer. I appreciate the sales rep's assistance during the purchase, but the overall experience with the vehicle and the lack of follow-up have been disappointing. I expected better quality control and customer service from CarMax, and this experience has left me questioning their commitment to customer satisfaction. I am pretty sure by the features listed on my quote, that they did not run the VIN to see what packages my vehicle had. On Nov. 2, 2022, I purchased a 2020 CX-5 from the CarMax on Sample road in Pompano Beach, Florida. My sales consultant was Joe Rodrigues. During the purchase process, Joe asked if I currently had the MaxCare plan on my current vehicle, to which I told him I did not. I informed him that I never purchase the extended warranties on any of my vehicles, as I do a significant amount of research on reliability before making a decision on a vehicle. He asked again if I wanted it on this car because it covers all major systems. I told him no again and that I'd be willing to roll the dice and take the risk. From there we soon began to e-sign the documents. He had me sign on his computer once with the mouse, then he somehow stored my signature into the computer. He went down, page by page, explaining the documents and then he would add my signature to the bottom. Never once did I hear him mention or reference the MaxCare warranty. After the purchase was finalized and I returned home, I reviewed some of my documents and discovered the MaxCare was added to my contract. On the bottom of the MaxCare contract, I saw my E-signature, the same one that I saw Joe store into the computer. At this point I released Joe forged my signature to include the MaxCare into the purchase agreement. If you purchase from CarMax, I would AVOID Joe Rodrigues at all costs. He is untrustworthy and a stain to CarMax's reputation of transparency in car sales. read more

She informed me how the car lot was arranged and told me to find her if I needed help. I walked around the lot and found two cars I was interested in. First and more than likely last time purchasing from CarMax. I went to purchase a vehicle and after I narrowed my options I landed on a Mitsubishi. When we discussed finances, I was giving 5%+ APR, now someone with over 770 credit score and a debt to income ratio of 20%; should receive a better rate; but I was told that if I find another financial institution that offers a better rate then they are able to use it within 5 days. As we were purchasing the vehicle, their system went offline, which I understand you cannot control it, but it extended my stay for about 6 hours in the dealership. After the system came back online, we signed the documents and I was on my way. I found a better annual percentage rate with Bank of America and brought it to their attention, so we had to return the car to purchase it again...I would say hmmm 2 more hours. Finally, everything was right, I had the vehicle I wanted with the rate I was supposed to receive and I thought it was the end of it. I thought wrong....within two weeks, the car wouldn't start and we noticed the tires had barely any thread to them. We took it to our mechanic and luckily for us the battery was near dead, but tires had to get replaced. I called CarMax and they were able to change the battery and tires, but found an issue with the brakes, which they fixed. So overall, how could you say a car that's "CarMax certified", without reviewing the life of the battery, thread on the tires and brakes?? Lastly, if you do plan on purchasing a vehicle, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION BEFORE STOPPING BY. KEEP IN MIND MORE THAN LIKELY A CREDIT UNION WOULD PROVIDE YOU WITH A LOWER RATE THAN A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION. read more

I appraised my car to sell a few months ago, got a fair offer, it was thoroughly inspected by about 4 people as I was able to observe it. Car runs well and no issues, clean title, original owner etc. Only problem was I had to leave town and my car title was also out of town, I decided to come back again with this time I was prepared with everything I needed to sell the car. Obviously the market changes and I thought I might get a lower offer this time, but I already knew from other sources what the market value was. The rep comes out with an appraisal that was thousands less than before, but he didnt know I had the original appraisal with me. The new inspector wrote up that the car frame was bad, and I garage the car when I go away and nothing changed at all. It was made up so that I get a low appraisal value. The rep was very cold afterwards, and wasnt even interested in continuing the conversation. I walked out disappointed but moreso because I now wonder how honest they are. I have now purchased three vehicles from CarMax, two of which have been at this location. First thing's first: are you getting an amazing, jaw-dropping deal? No, you aren't (let's be real, you're most likely not getting that anywhere)... but you're definitely not getting swindled either. At the very least, you know what you're getting into, and the prices are marked in line with what Kelly Blue Book lists for used vehicles. It's a transparent process that I appreciate, especially considering the bait and switch tactics I've experienced at other used car dealerships (I'm looking at you, Al Hendrickson Toyota). For my latest trips here, I sold my 2010 Toyota Prius to CarMax, and purchased a 2013 Honda Accord Coupe. Two and a half years ago, I bought the Prius from the Fort Lauderdale CarMax, and purchased the extended warranty on the vehicle. So upon selling my car here, not only did I get a decent appraisal on my vehicle (it was actually a couple hundred more than I anticipated by looking at the KBB used car values ahead of time), but they also gave me a prorated refund on the portion of the extended warranty I didn't use. That amount was also higher than expected, which in turn meant more money I could then put as a down payment on my new car. For any appraisal, CarMax gives you a week to decide. In that time, you can take that appraisal elsewhere, and many places will match (or say they'll beat) CarMax (although, for the record, Al Hendrickson told me that, then snuck into the paperwork that they'd actually give me $2,000 less... so, like I said, watch out for the bait and switch). Originally, I had done an online vehicle transfer request, bringing a Hyundai Sonata down from the Orlando CarMax to this location. Andre was my assigned sales associate, who did a great job of keeping in touch with me throughout the process. Because my Prius was actually at CarMax for service, I couldn't commit to the Sonata right away since I obviously needed an appraisal first on my car. Andre held the car for me until the work on the Prius was finished. During my test drive of the Sonata, however, I heard a noise that I said I wanted to be checked on before I agreed to buy the car. The very next day, Andre called me and told me it wasn't going to be a quick fix, and said he wouldn't want me to buy the car only to then not have it for a couple weeks because it would be in the shop. I appreciated his honesty, so he said he'd look into a few other vehicles that met my qualifications. I ended up finding the Honda on the CarMax site (it was at their Fort Myers store) and sending him the link, so he put in a transfer request for me. Of course I fell in love with the Accord. So much so that a few tiny (but easily fixable) flaws managed to get overlooked since I was so excited about the car. Thankfully Andre agreed that these things (small scratches, busted fog light, small windshield chip) should be fixed by CarMax. He's been remarkably patient with me. Two examples: 1) the day I bought the car, I had to return to the dealership THREE TIMES since I kept forgetting stuff... first, forgot to bring the second key for my car... then forgot my seatbelt cushion in the Prius (he went out and got it for me)... and that night I remembered I left my CDs in the CD changer... and 2) I've texted him endlessly asking various questions, including about the extended warranty. I had originally opted to not purchase the warranty, since my last Accord never had anything wrong with it (before it was totaled due to some jerk in Miami, but hey, I'm not bitter about that at all... ahem). However, I decided afterward that I intend to keep this car for a good long while, and it would be better to finance the warranty than risk having to pay potentially huge repair costs upfront down the line. So back to CarMax I went, again. I'm amazed he's not super sick of me yet! In fact, he's been awesome to deal with from start to finish. He even offered to take pictures of me with my old and new cars, and put a pretty yellow bow on my car for added effect! I've worked with many a CarMax associate over the years, but Andre has definitely been the best. No dealership is perfect, and there's always an inherent risk when you buy a used car that might slip by an appraiser. For that reason, I'd definitely suggest purchasing the CarMax extended warranty for peace of mind alone. But all in all, I feel you get a good experience without any high-pressure sales pitches. read more

We made an appointment, were greeted kindly, and within 30ish minutes, they offered me the online offer, and I had a check within 20 minutes. Not many cars I cared for but one that I was interested in so i asked to test drive. I was told the car was reserved without him even looking at a computer yet still needs to" check "the system first then comes back and says it's reserved and someone had already started the payment process on that car. instead of the SALESman selling me a different car he tells me that I can go online find cars in the area, even to Naples and that I can get the car shipped to their location. Hands me his business card and that's it. He didn't bring me over to a computer and look at similar options or find a car that I might want. I mean, do they not get commissions?! Are you that lazy that i should do all the work and then give you the sale? and a week later the car that was reserved and already started in the payment process that somebody was going to come in to buy that day. It is still on the lot but guess who isn't coming to test drive it? ME because i'm busy zipping around in my 2024 Mustang from Autonation Margate!!! BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE compared to how I was treated at this Carmax Pompano location! Prices aren't the best either got a better deal and financing rates on a BRAND NEW CAR which will save you money then getting some lemon from here for the same price out the door! This car dealership's service center is a complete joke. Brought my brand new used car to them as it was still under warranty for them to fix. I had to call them two times a day for two weeks for them to even look at it. it took them around 2.5 months to actually fix it and I had to get loaner cars on two separate occasions. I work overtime and run two businesses. Ended up returning my loaner late due to not being available Monday-Friday before 5pm as again I work but they impounded my VW without establishing contact with me after "fixing" it. It is still broken and unsafe to drive. Totally separate issue now with the accelerator. Scam artists would advise avoiding like the plague.
