I have been visiting/purchasing running shoes from this store for 20 + years...mostly at the previous location...which was twice the size of the currently Roswell Rd store. My wife was looking to replace a pair of Brooks, which they did have and all went well for her purchase. My observations include the minimal amount of stock...one or two items hanging for clothes, hats, etc. and no price tags on any of the shoes ! I am luckily not in the market for another pair of men's running shoes but I enjoy checking on sale items. Apparently if you have to ask how much then the philosophy at this store is we do not want to make it easy for the customer. I asked the sales person what they had in Brooks size 12 and she came back with one pair of shoes. Not impressed. read more

This is the location that I originally went to. For the Pulse insoles, because Phillipedees. Seemed to be the only store that sold them. I called the Roswell rd location and asked the associate for the insoles. He told me they had plenty of instock. Once I got their the associate was helping a lady with a pair of shoes. I went to the area where the insoles are and started looking for the 2 sizes I needed. The associate asked if I needed any help as he paid more attention to the busty loud blond haired women. I said I had called in a few minutes ago for the insoles. That he claimed they had plenty of stock, and to my finding, they had none. He then said go to Amazon and order them because they all of a sudden didn't have stock. Even though I had just called 20 minutes prior to driving to the store. I feel he could have paid more attention to the call & my request. He could have told me over the phone just to order them online. Instead of me driving 20 minutes in traffic both ways. I will not say it was a total wasted of time. Now I know Amazon has them. When for years Amazon did not carry them. Based on this experience, I do not ever have to go back to that store. read more

I've recently started working out, and after 6 weeks I realized that the $30 sneakers I bought 3 years ago were not going to be able to keep up with the beatings I was giving them. Because I was having significant shin pain, and knew nothing about running shoes, I went to the professionals. While I was a little turned off by having to sign a waiting list to buy a pair of shoes, I later realized it was because of the individualized attention they give their customers. They analyzed my run, found a shoe that fit my awkward style (which was a full shoe size bigger than my feet), and gave me a variety of shoes to try for comfort. They even let you try the shoes out for a couple of days to make sure you like them. 3 weeks later, my shin splints are greatly diminished and I even managed to shave off a full 35 seconds from my mile time. While I hope that has something to do with all the conditioning my bodies been going through by training, I'm thinking the shoes were involved as well. read more

Whether it is from wearing the right shoe to having a water whisking shirt to the energy bar you should be consuming before a race, these experts know there stuff. They offer all the latest running products in a wide selection of brands and prices. They also offer classes every once in awhile from coaches or trainers in the area on how to improve your time or increase your distance. Also, I suggest you sign up for their mailing list. They send out a monthly newsletter on all the upcoming Atlanta races as well as coupons. So instead of searching through a Sports Authority and wasting your time, just head straight to Phidippides and know that you are receiving the best service, the best products, and the best advice from experienced runners. My sister has been complaining about not being able to find the right running shoes. I was pretty excited when we found Phidippides. We had the pleasure of working with Ron. He was just wonderful and super helpful in helping her find the right pair of shoes. What I love about Phidippides is that they have you put on a pair of shoes and jog up and down the length of their store to try to observe your gait and strike pattern. Okay... it may not be a computerized analysis... but he is very knowledgeable and does a great job. If you watch someone jog/run, you can see if they have a tendency to point their toes outwards, inwards, or straight forward. My sister's left foot was pretty straight while her right foot had a slight tendency to point outwards. He kept an eye on this and was able to help weed out shoes that seemed to encourage this tendency while jogging. To be honest, we are not dedicated runners. Our usual method of shopping for shoes always started with fashion. Haha. OH! THIS PAIR IS SUPER CUTE. The comfort and the appropriate fit came second. We decided to take the smarter approach and decided to ignore colors, looks, style, and focused on fit and comfort. We were both amazed at the number of pairs we had allocated into our "I LIKE" pile. I wanted to smack my sister across the head and force her to pick one because she was being indecisive! Phidippides may be a small shop with some limitations in selection/variety in regards to colors and styles. However, I have no doubt you can walk in there and they will help you find one that you love before you walk out those doors. read more

This place is the worst place to deal with starting with the Customer Service I went there to get my Power Step Insoles back in January and they were out after driving all the way there so the guy there told me to order them from Amazon and he looked at the old ones I had and wrote it down exactly what to order and when I ordered them they were the wrong ones. I then went back in 2 weeks ago and Jami tried to help me but said again they don't have what I need to she said promised me that day she would call me back to see if she could order then she never called or the next day I called and left a message second attempt but never heard back so I ordered 2 pair on line directly from the factory and then Jami called me to tell me they were in so I said why didn't you call me back you left me hanging so I ordered from the company but to be nice I went down there was going to buy them anyways I figured I would put them in different shoes so I dive all the way there and they were the wrong ones again!!!!! This gal named Jami should have checked them before she told me to come down but stupidity once again. I also went in there before this to buy tennis shoes and Jami helped me but dropped me when somebody else walked in so I got mad and walked out. I am a Kaiser Permanente member and was told by my foot doctor to go there for the Power Step insoles but again they never have any stock. I will say I will never waste my gas or time driving to this place again. Worst Customer Service ever. read more

Since I'm a budding triathlete, I decided to go ahead and get fitted for real running shoes. My dad has been going here for years so I tagged along. The woman who helped us was incredibly knowledgeable. She pulled no less than 5 pairs of shoes for me and could often tell after only a few strides if they were going to work or not. When I was torn between two pairs, she had me put one on each foot and literally test them out side by side. She answered all my questions and explained that I have a tendency to roll in as well as having extremely flexible ankles. I needed a shoe that offered a lot of support without feeling like it was pushing too far in the other direction. I haven't gotten the chance to run in them yet, but I'm looking forward to feeling the difference. I've been told I'll be amazed. With the level of service and attention to detail during the fitting, I'm sure I'll be very happy with the results. read more

I signed up for a Half-Marathon training group that is run by Phidippides. I had never been to the store before and I was happy to see so many Atlanta Track Club Members participating in the training as well. I am the first to admit runners are an odd little subculture that I am gladly a part of. I will say this though, there are not a nicer group of people I have ever come across. The employees here are all runners, so they know what they are talking about, they take their time and they are very accommodating, their passion for the sport shows. I have been helped by Kevin and Todd and would recommend them both. Also, any place that Steve Prefontaine had visited, will always be on my list of things that are cool. The thing to remember about running is, it doesn't matter how far you go or how fast. If you get out there and try, you are runner, period. So if you are going to be one of the brave souls to enter the arena, you might as well get the right shoes for the way you run. There is a difference, it is important, and the staff at Phidippides will guide you through it. Good luck and don't waste the gift! The customer service is outstanding! All the associates are very helpful. I had a problem with my shoes... they EXCEEDED my expectations.

Several years ago, I went to Phidippides for the first time to buy a new pair of running shoes and had a great experience. Since then, I have bought several new pairs of shoes at stores much closer to my house - mainly only because I live pretty far from Phidippides (relative to all the other places one could go to buy a pair of running shoes), and I didn't have the time to drive down to Sandy Springs. Yesterday, I went back to Phidippides because we were near the store, and I wanted to check out some trail shoes. I was quickly reminded why this is such a great store. All the personalized attention, expert sales staff, and serious gear were all there. While one sales member was asking questions about running style, events I intend to run, etc., others were listening too and providing great feedback and information. One of the others even printed out information about some running groups I might like to join based on my responses. From now on, I'll drive the few extra miles and spend a little extra time just so I can get my shoes at Phidippides! read more

One of my favorite running shoe stores. They always get it right. The service is friendly and the selection is good. They also have organized runs that start and stop at their stores. If you are new to running (for exercise, not towards donuts) then they can help you get outfitted up. Just don't wear all new running duds to your first race...you'll look like a douche. Dude at the half marathon whom I passed in the first mile (he was walking) wearing all new running clothes, shoes, and a fully stocked water belt I'm looking at you. read more

Whoever said the days of quality customer service is dead, have not had the Phidippides experience. About 5 months ago, I purchased a pair of Vibrams from a local sporting store located in Atlantic Station. Because the salesperson appeared knowledgeable on his merchandise, I chalked up the awkward feel of the shoes as "my need to get used to the toe separation". After two months, I knew it was not the case. A colleague told me about Phidippedes and how they carried a nice line of Vibrams; however, I no longer desired the maker - I just wanted a comfortable free-forming shoe. Upon entering the store, their staff was welcoming. I briefly shared with the sales associate, Jared, my Vibram experience and how I was in the market for a free forming, lightweight, flexible shoe. He asked detailed questions on why I was against the Vibram, the size I chose, the style, etc. Long story - short - through Jared's patience and explaination of the fit process I learned I had purchased the wrong size and style. After 30 minutes of trying on various shoe makers and styles, I left with my favorite and comfortable purchase of the Vibram Bikila. Thank you Jared for your patience and education on shoes.
