Avoid. Bait and switch, uses faulty (even visibly cracked!) replacement parts (scrounged from broken computers/phones), damages other parts of your machine in ways that aren't evident right away (replaced screen, damaged track pad somehow), voids warranty, doesn't stand by his word on anything (when something is going to be finished, total cost, type of part to be used). Just not worth it at all. First clue should have been the state of the shop. No computer repair shop should be covered in that much dust! read more

I went to get my phone's screen replaced and he did the job, but it downgraded my phone in every way possible. The screen quality is worse, which is to be expected, but also the battery drains like mad now, the touch screen is overly sensitive, finicky, and inaccurate, and worst of all the touch screen will stop responding so I have to either wait til it starts working again or hard restart my phone I did not learn how to hard restart my phone until one day the touch screen was unresponsive for over 12 hours (i could still use voice command and the buttons) so i went back to phdfix and he was very impatient with me. Yes, I wasn't happy, but i was not trying to pick a fight with him - i just wanted to ask what was going on with my phone. He quickly jumped to the conclusion that the unresponsive touch screen, which didnt start happening til after the screen replacement, was due to my phone being slow due to having low storage (i have used about half of my phones storage capacity) and wasnt willing to explore any other possibilities. "Get rid of data and dont keep text messages forever." Thanks, i guess. He then hard restarted my phone, the touch screen became responsive again, and he didnt explain how he did it so the next time it froze i had to hop on a computer to look up how to do so: hit the volume up button, then volume down button, then hold the power button for about 10 seconds. Because of my dumb luck I dropped my phone while in Florida sitting at the pool. Had a mild freak out and did research down there to see if it would be cheaper here or there . In the end of the eight places I called I waited till I got home to timonium and was impressed with the service here . Went in, showed the crack, was quoted $129 for my iPhone six screen and told to come back in a hour . Fifty minutes later my phone is as good as new . Thanks guys ! I took my iMac in because it wouldn't boot up, the apple and progress bar would appear and in the middle of booting it would shut down. The tech said he would run tests and get back to me. He called me back the same day and said that the hard drive was bad and needed to replace. He also asked me if I wanted to data recovered (if he couldn't recover it, there wouldn't be a charge). I opted for the replaced drive and date recovery. He both and recovered all the data, WOW!!! And, he turned the repair around fast, got it back the next day and price was reasonable. read more

Looked around at different places in baltimore to replace my cracked iPhone4 screen and found this guy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. He was quick (~30 min or so), very inexpensive ($75 tax included) compared to everyone else around here (who were charging $100-$130 + tax), and he even hooked me with with a complementary glass guard. Run, do not walk, as far as you can from this inept, dishonest dipwad. He claims to have a Ph.D, but I think it's actually an abbreviation for Persistently Hurts Devices.I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a repair service in my life. Heck, now that I think about it, "PHD" probably stands for "Prepare for Horrible Disappointment." What really galls me was that the first time I used him I had such a great experience that I sung his praises to a number of email lists that I'm on. I had an iPad 2 with a cracked screen, dropped it off in the morning, picked it up in the afternoon after paying about $100 for the repair, and have never had a problem with it again. But that was then (about 6 months ago). This is now. And something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. So...back in November I managed to smash my wife's iPad Mini by tripping over the charging cord with the finesse of a brain damaged elephant. Needless to say, she wasn't pleased. "Not to worry!" I exclaimed, "I know just the guy to fix it!" She just frowned at me as I whisked away the broken iPad so I could take it to Ph.D. Fix (at least that's what it was called then). And why not? I'd had a good experience before. I should have known something was amiss when I dropped off the iPad Mini. "Ohh!" smiled Mr. Ph.D, "Very hard to fix! I only have one screen left." I frowned. "When's it going to be fixed," I asked, desperate to get my wife her iPad back. "I call you," he told me with a big smile. Silly me, I trusted him. In fact, I trusted him so much that I also dropped off two laptops in need of repair at the same time. One was a 5 year old 17" MacBook pro that'd had its scree snapped off by my children when "someone" (apparently their name is "Not Me," but I was never able to locate them) stepped on the screen when it was on the floor being used to watch movies. It still worked -- in fact, I'd been using it as kind of a pseudo-desktop machine with an external monitor-- but I thought i'd be nice to get it repaired. I also dropped off a slightly older Sony Vaio laptop that'd been having the typical "my harddrive's going to die soon" issues. I figured he'd be able to work on all three devices -- the iPad Mini and 2 laptops-- all at once and my family would be back to techno-happiness in no time. Boy, was I wrong. After not hearing from Mr. Ph.D. for a few days I called him. "Oh yes, your iPad's ready" he told me. "What about the laptops?" I asked. "Oh!" he informed me, "MacBook hinge a really hard to find part. It is not fixed yet." OK. No big deal. The laptops were kind of toast anyway and not really all that important to me. I went to the store, picked up the iPad Mini, paid my $165, and took it home. Within a few days my wife told me that "something wasn't right" with the repaired iPad. "The screen seems kind of loose," she commented. I sighed. I just wanted it to be fixed, but by now we'd gotten close to Christmas and there were other priorities. She graciously agreed to put up with it through the Holidays. I was off the hook for another couple of weeks. Unfortunately the time wasn't kind to her repaired iPad mini. Over the next two weeks the screen got looser and looser and my wife got more and more unhappy. After the screen finally cracked from the inevitable flexing that resulted from a hal-glued-on screen, I bit the bullet. swallowed my pride, and finally agreed to take it back to have Mr. Ph.D. take a look at it again. I figured that even with the "no warranty" thing he'd told me before, he'd have to admit he'd done a shoddy job fixing it. Har-dee-har-har! When I arrived with the iPad, he took one look at it and said "Yes. The tape is very bad and didn't stick. I will fix it." I smiled, pleased that he'd recognized the error of his ways. "But the screen is cracked," he told me, " I can't fix that. Your wife must have broken it." He emphasized the point by pantomiming a WWF-style elbow smash. Then he smiled. I looked at him with amazement. "Really?" I asked. "Really? I know she didn't break it. It broke because the screen was flexing from not being glued down." "No, no, no," he replied. "She broke it." She hadn't, but I relented. To cut an overly long story short, I relented and returned the next day to pick up the iPad. And my laptops. Not surprisingly, the iPad now had a firmly-glued-down screen with a giant crack in the screen. I'd expected that. What I didn't expect was to get my MacBook back (he said he couldn't find the part) with an exploded battery bulging out of the bottom! "What the heck is this?" I exclaimed. "How did this happen?" "Oh yes!" he told me with a grin. "Battery popped! That's what happened when left with no charge for too long." "See?" he asked, holding up a puffy iPhone battery," happened here too. Li batteries have this problem. You look it up online." I knew I'd been beaten. I grabbed my useless hunks of junk and left. He smiled. Ph.D. fix had claimed yet another victim. read more

Amazing place! The place, without a doubt is sketchy. It is in a little house on York Road and when you walk in, it is messy. However, the man who fixed my iPhone 5 did an excellent job! He said it would take 40 minutes and when I came back in 35, it was ready to go with a new screen protector on the back and front. Excellent! I was recommended to this business by my boss who happily had her Iphone 4 screen replaced for about $70 dollars and it took about an hour. So I went in to have my Ipad mini screen replaced. When I arrived I filled out a contact information sheet, I was told it would take about a day, it would cost $169 and to expect a call when it was ready. I chatted with the man there who informed me the price on replacing an Ipad mini screen was so expensive since the product is so new and he also mentioned I was receiving the last ipad mini screen they had available. Two days later I had not received a call so I stopped by to pick up my Ipad assuming it should be done by then. At that time I was told that the screen they tried to replace it with had broken in the process and they had ordered a new one which should be arriving in a few days. Unfortunately I was scheduled to travel out of the country before the Ipad would be fixed so I updated the contact information and arranged to have someone pick up the Ipad who would then ship it to me. A few days passed and we still had not received a phone call letting us know the Ipad was ready so I had my contact call and PHDRepair who said a few more days, again. So about a week later after this date I finally received my Ipad in the mail and came to the realization that it was completely incapable of doing normal functions, for example: after un-locking the ipad to the main screen (with a little effort on my part to get it to click the right numbers) it would flip through different screens with out being touched at all, I would press the camera app and it would open my calendar, I would click maps and it would switch to the search screen and ect. Also I noticed that the screen at the top is not securely attached to the outside lining of the ipad and I am able to push the screen down which creates a clicking sound that I am sure that it is not supposed to make, which concerns me considering the fact that is where the camera is located, I would check if the camera is still functional but am unable to considering the fact I cant even manage to open the app. So at this point I am extremely frustrated to the point I felt the need to write a review which is something I normally don't do. Now I am over seas for the next 6 months with an Ipad that can barely even function enough to unlock it. I tried to email the address provided: phdfix@gmail.com and my email bounced back. I am still working to get in contact with this business and will update my post when I come to a conclusion. I don't expect them to fix it because at this point I don't even trust them to but would really appreciate a refund at least for ruining my $500 Ipad, having to pay $169 and going through the stress of having it shipped over seas. Im disappointed by the lack of communication PHD had with me through this process and would advise for Apple product users to take their devices to the Apple store with any problems they have with their products. The Genius Bar has yet to let me down when it comes to replacing or repairing any device I have brought them and I completely regret taking my Ipad to PHD for the sole reason that it was of more convenience to me at the time but unfortunately created a whole world of more problems. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I used this place about 3 weeks ago for an iPhone 6 screen repair. It took about 20 minutes and cost $85. The owner was very unfriendly and dismissive of any questions I asked. He just told me come back in 20 minutes. So I trusted and left my iPhone with him. He put a new screen on it. About a week later my screen went black and never turned back on. The phone was ringing and vibrating when it received calls and texts but the screen stayed black. I took it to apple who charged me $120 for a replacement screen because phdFix did such an awful job replacing it prior. They laughed at what the inside of the screen looked like when they took the phone apart and told me it was such a poor job done before. I am warning you DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE. it's worth the extra money to get your iPhone fixed at Apple. I wish I never would've given this place a chance. Not to mention the small house that the owner works out of is filled with trash and stuff everywhere. My biggest mistake was not turning around and walking out once I opened the front door and saw the place. Not sure how it's still in business. Oh that's right because he rips people off! read more
