It is always a great spot to invite colleagues, family, and friends. They offer a solid selection of burgers and craft beer, and the location is very convenient in downtown Modesto, within walking distance of the Brenden Theatre and nearby venues like the Gallo Center. The customer service is phenomenal and they truly make you feel at home. If you need pickup, just give them a call and they will get you situated right away. Definitely recommend it.

Sadly disappointed…read more My friends and I stopped by Commonwealth on a Saturday afternoon for a late brunch. It was a beautiful day so it was busy for both indoor and outdoor seating. Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

Looking at the exterior, we could only guess what was coming. Walking in just after opening gave us opportunity to marvel over the beautifully appointed interior without bothering yet to arrive lunch customers. After perusing the menu, which we had somewhat studied pre decision to dine here, our waiter Matteo filled in item by item our understanding of the many menu options. With his help and suggestions we four decided to share two "starters" - the whipped feta - half classic and half smoky. Both were delicious! We chose the 4 piece Bruschetta with a suggested cheese added. It too rang the delicious bell. We picked paninis for our main course: Flank steak, French dip and Prosciutto & Fig Jam. Each would be served with a side salad - either Spinach or Spring. We all chose Spinach. The sandwiches were full of the components as described. My wife's Prosciutto & Fig Jam had prosciutto from end to end countering a review to the contrary I had read. The other paninis were likewise filled. The Spinach side salads were loaded with walnuts and cranberries. The amount of feta was adequate. the total amount of salad was more than I expected. My wife ordered a dessert to go, and just reported to me that was superb. We had to forgo any wine with lunch as we had miles to drive home afterward. But I await the day we can spend the night in town and enjoy some selections of their impressive wine stock and not have to drive home. A Friday evening comes to mind. It must happen so we can try out more items of their well chosen fare. A couple of the pokes look scrumptious and a few more of the paninis await my gastric juices. We were pleasantly surprised by Damon bringing us a complimentary Chocolate Panini served with house made whipped zcream (who even serves that these days?) He said that we HAD to try his #1 selling item from the whole menu before we left. We tasted, and learned why it had reached that status. Good in appearance. Perfect in creation, Superb in taste. Kudos by the bucketful to Damon, Matteo, and the rest of the staff who helped this Birthday Bash be warm & fuzzy and highly enjoyed. If you haven't yet. I suggest you put Camp 4 on your high priority list and enjoy the experience as I'm sure you will. We sure did!

The sushi was delicious, with favorites like dragon rolls and plenty of sashimi options. The spice levels were good, and the unagi sauce was not overly sweet. The buffet offered some great options, including fried rice, noodles, orange chicken, broccoli beef, and even some decent cuts of steak. The pork buns were a surprise and were really tasty. Dessert is mostly Jell-O, pudding, and some mini spongy cakes. The mango pudding was a great refresher. Overall, it's a great lunch spot at a decent price!

I feel like I've upgraded from typical Chinese buffets with the weird gelatin cakes from that one specific bakery that distributes said cakes to all these low-level Chinese buffets. But sometimes I gotta return to the trenches! The inside is cute with a lot of booths and Japanese decorations. The center consists of a sushi bar with a functioning boat, chefs making rolls and putting jello onto the little floaties. The back has the standard Americanized Chinese fare. Bonus: there is a "Mongolian BBQ" station where a cook will stir fry your creation. Pricing is pretty decent considering there is more than just the hot trays of Chinese. The food itself was pretty OK. Sushi is basic to below average with huge 65-35 rice proportions, so get ready to be full fast. The sushi chefs also focused on saucy rolls vs nigiri. Because there is seating around the sushi boat, it was funny witnessing socially-unaware people go up behind people sitting there to grab a plate even though there was a huge space at the end of the island without seating to avoid this. Anyways, we ate a bunch to get our money's worth and could cross this off the list to never have to go again.

The interior has a nice, relaxed vibe with comfortable seating and a clean, inviting atmosphere. We started with the calamari and edamame. The calamari was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. The edamame was lightly salted and had a wonderful flavor that made it easy to snack on while we waited for our main courses. I had the Korean stone bowl and was very impressed. The beef was tender, flavorful, and slightly sweet, and everything was served piping hot in a beautifully presented bowl. My husband had the salmon bowl and thought it was cooked perfectly with a nice balance of flavors. Another friend tried the coconut shrimp curry and said it was delicious, with a rich and slightly sweet coconut sauce that paired well with the shrimp. Overall, we were very happy with the food and the experience. The restaurant felt clean and well-maintained, and the staff made sure our meal went smoothly. I would definitely come back if I am in the area.

The holiday drinks were just posted on social media two days prior and they were already unable to make one of the drinks. I've had the peppermint martini a few years ago, so went back to that. It was good, but I remember it being a little better before. Also, the presentation of drinks seems to change based on who is making them. Sometimes it's rimmed with peppermint, mine was on the side of the glass. Same issue as last time. The peppermint was too heavy and sliding down the glass, making the stem sticky when picked up. We shared several different sushi rolls. The rice seemed way over done. It was one mushy texture and the spicy tuna lacked spice. I ordered the salmon for my entree. Salmon was well cooked with a glaze and served with broccoli. First bite of broccoli tasted burnt, but luckily the rest was fine. We ordered all the desserts to sample and the best was the flourless chocolate cake and the cheesecake with the bananas. Our server was super sweet and always made sure we had what we needed.
