WORST PLACE EVER!! I will never ever go back! Had boarded our dog 3-4 times in the past. Recently was last summer. She's a 10 pound Maltese, never ever bit anyone in 15 years of having her. Rude, insensitive, entitled lady behind the counter. Denied her treat of Denta Stix which shes had for ten years, saying it's a choking hazard. This lady was on a power trip, not nice, not welcoming, doesn't like her job obviously. Filled all the papers out. Dog had all necessary vacinations. She bent down and tried to put a lease around her neck. Dog has cataracts and is hard of hearing too. Dog snipped at her. I asked her to give the dog a few minutes to calm down since this is a stranger she cant see trying to put something around her neck. She refused and told us she couldn't take out dog!!!! At the last moment before we leave for out week long vacation she says she can not take the dog!!!!!! No apologies just flat out can't take her!! We had no one or no where to take her since it's the Fourth of July weekend!! This person didn't care about any of that. Ruining our vacation didn't matter to her. To top if off I was told by a Danielle that she'd hate to report my dog to animal control if she bit anyone!! This dog who has had a rabies shot was going to be reported to animal control?? Are you kidding me? For what for them to come take and euthanize her? Stay far away from this place. The store manager was no better except supporting his staff! I wouldn't leave a fly here!! read more

Took my lab to the daycare. First time I asked how he did and the response was "fine". The next time I took him for daycare and scheduled it from 12-6 with a bath at 5. I had an emergency at home (flood) and asked if I could get him early or late. It was 3 o'clock. They said just get him now he just got done with his bath and won't be playing anyway. When I picked him up I asked why he needed a bath early and they said they had to for him into their schedule. I asked why I was paying for him to play when they just housed him and didn't allow him to play. The response was "well he is old and he doesn't really play he just walks around and sniffs". Kinda weird since he plays with my brother's dogs nonstop during our weekly visits. Even if he just walks around and sniffs at least he is doing something. I only took him there because I was focusing on my other dog and her chemo treatments. read more

This review is for the employees at this location and NOT for the products or animals carried here by corporate's direction. The employees here are very knowledgeable and helpful. In particular, Jamie is an absolute gem and clearly cares about the animals she cares for and encounters. She was so helpful in finding me the items I needed and explaining their use to me. We also swapped stories and tips on guinea pig care, and it's so nice to see people who understand the needs of such a misunderstood animal. She's great, and I hope Petsmart knows it. As for the Petsmart, this store, like all others, carries live animals and contributes to impulse purchases that result in small animals being abandoned, left in the woods, left at overwhelmed small animal rescues, etc. Don't purchase live animals from these stores! Local rescues exist! read more

I love Petsmart. On Saturdays they have pet adoptions from 11-3pm (Dogs and Cats). It is usually every other Saturday, but you can call and ask. They answer all of your questions about your pet. I called a few days ago about my cats and the food they were eating. They offered free advice and helped me out. They have a Banfield Pet Hospital as well for checkups and shots. They have grooming, doggie day camp, and a PetsHotel. There is a variety of animals you can adopt here. We saw a chinchilla today, which I have not seen before. MAC society brings new cats in every week or so. They have guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, mice, bearded dragons, geckos, frogs, water dragons, pythons (other snakes as well), turtles, lizards, toads, fish, birds, etc. You can go in and see many different animals, or call and ask if they have one you are specifically looking for. They offer advice on all new pets with feeding instructions, pet care, and habitats (tanks/cage/etc). I adopted 3 amazing cats from PetSmart and I do not regret it. Java (dark haired tabby), Boots (Orange bigger tabby), and Peach (smaller orange tabby). When we adopted our cats, they included all kinds of paperwork with shots, neutered info, etc. They also gave us a booklet for each cat to save money with free cat food, and other coupons. I will include a pic which can also be found on their website. It is for cats and dogs. PS. If anyone is interested in the dog coupons in the pictures, let me know. read more

Took my dog here for a nail trim and he came back with fleas. Do not recommend this place

We were in desperate need of a better fitting harness. We walked in and found Loren in the aisle re-stocking harnesses. He stopped what he was doing and helped us try on 3 different harnesses and helped re-size the last one until it was a perfect fit! He was gentle with my dog and was knowledgeable when I asked questions about the harness. Was a great experience! My pup was pooped after the fun visit as you can see! read more

Very upsetting how they handled our dogs stay! We should have been notified if the so called manager thought she needed to protect her employees! If she needed to protect her employees, why didn't they contact us or the emergency contact to get her. That's okay, we won't be back and hopefully others that read this will think twice before leaving their pet there! Please note the progress report never mentioned that our pet was mean or vicious, so really makes you wonder what the real story was! read more

Do not go here. Someone claiming to be an assistant manager and other staff in grooming laughed when my dog left like this. Who would do this to an animal? I was on the phone with corporate and took these immediately following. The dog burns Easily in sunlight and has an allergy to grass, now with no protection. There were other options like me taking the dog elsewhere for care. This was sick and cruel. read more

The groomers are very good with my dog, who is a very anxious/nervous pup. However, I have gone multiple times for a walk-in service (nail trim) when the store notes the salon should be open. Only to find out the groomers have all gone for the day. I understand staffing issues happen, but please update your hours online and/or via the phone recording please! Even something that says "hours may be subject to change, please call to confirm". Since I only bring the dog for a walk-in service, this isn't something I can book online to be sure someone will be there. read more

Store refused to sell me two baby Oscar's after telling them I did not want to disclose how big my tank was. First of all I bought the 90 gallon tank 6 months ago from there. I've been back several times. Every time I have to explain to them how big my tank is. I don't get it. They cram all those fish into those small tanks to begin with, not to mention the hundreds of feeders crammed into one tank. Don't even get me started on the beta fish living in a plastic cup with lid. So I can't see them being all about fish rights! They literally have a tank full of fish that will be fed to other pets as food. Make this make sense. read more

Grooming has gone downhill. We've been going to PetSmart for over 6 years. They used to have great groomers. Then our most recent favorite groomer left and it hasn't been the same since. They let you schedule online, which seems convenient, until you show up and they say that because you have a big dog they have to do a thorough assessment to see if they have time to groom them. After 10 minutes standing in the lobby while they pick at the dog, combing and checking, I was told "I'm going to take her to the back to blow her a little to see if she's too matted today. Ummm, excuse me? All this checking and you could've been grooming her already. Time to find a new groomer for my three dogs. read more

Everyone please share this!!!!! My Aunt took her dog to Petsmart on hall Road and Northpointe Blvd in Utica. Dumpling WAS a very healthy Chihuahua and had no prior medical issues. Yesterday she went in for a bath and nail trim. Once my Aunt picked her up she noticed Dumpling wasn't walking properly and holding her head high in the air. She rushed her to the emergency vet and the vet determined they tied the bandanna so tight around dumplings neck that she only had 64% oxygen and her lungs filled with fluid. Sadly Dumpling did passed away this morning due to Strangulation. Please save your pets and do not take them to this place!!!!!!! read more

I've had good experiences with boarding and daycare, but the grooming salon has disappointed me on several occasions. A couple days after a grooming appointment, my dog came down with kennel cough, and after contacting the store manager, JUST TO LET THEM KNOW, I never received a call back. I wasn't even looking for money (be cause of the hefty vet bill!) I decided to give them one more chance, because the location and booking is so convenient. A few ours after bringing my lab home, I had blood tracked all through my house, because they literally chopped his nail off. The quick was completely exposed and looked extremely painful. Had they AT LEAST mentioned it, I would've understood and could have at least prevented an afternoon cleaning my rugs and carpet. Not going back. read more

This Petsmart is just like any other dog store! But it seems to be super busy! I like the fact on Saturday mornings they host a local animal shelter to come and help adopt their pets! I rarely ever have to wait in line and they always seem busy. This particular store offers a "animal hotel." This is equivalent to a animal daycare, for people that work all day, or are out of town for a vacation. I didn't really check into their prices, but I have heard that it isn't that bad, and I actually know a couple people have utilized their services. This store has live pets as well, lizards, birds, rats, mice, hamsters, and fish. I always go here to buy my science diet dog food, and some treats. Treats for my animals seem to be priced a little higher here, but the convenience of everything in one spot for my dogs is perfect. read more

They are very terrible groomers. I would NOT recommend them too you. My husband had took my two shihpoos up there to get a haircut and a flea bath and they told my husband that my dogs has very bad smell on their ears, they are too matted to gI've them a haircut. So they told my husband that he has to go to the vet to do so and it'sy husband first time taking our babies up there. our babies has been a petsmart member since they was born until I had came to this location... They are very lazy. I knew they were lying too my husband because I ended up doing it myself.. I knew they wasn't matted because they really did not have any long hair plus I keep my dogs ears clean. so it they way of saying they did not want to do their job. So I no longer go to that Utica location anymore...Terrible groomers!!!! Lazy too!!! It's sad because they do have some are nice in their grooming area read more

Please do not take your dogs to the groomer at PetSmart's on hall rd in Utica. Today I took my sweet Lucy there to get groomed. She is the most calm, sweet dog, I've never had an issue with getting her groomed. After an hour and a half into her grooming PetSmart called me and said she had a minor scrap while being groomed but it was nothing serious but still wanted Banfield hospital (attached) to take a look at it. I was concerned but they said it was "small and superficial" and not to worry. I called the hospital and they said the vet was looking at her and would call me shortly. Two hours went by, I was so worried I had my husband call. They said they had to sedate her and give her four stitches and she was in recovery. I'm thankful Banfield was able to take care of her but I'm so upset that no one called me to update me with what was going on and they made it seem like it was nothing to be worried about. She is home now recovering with antibiotics and pain medicine the next three day and stitches for The next 10. Not to mention where they cut her was less than an inch from her jugular vein. Please don't take your pets here. :( read more

0/10 recommend taking your dog to this location for nail trimming. I took my dog here earlier today and 5 minutes into the appointment they called me into the room to get her. When I walked in they were immediately rude to my face and told me my dog was being so bad they couldn't proceed with the nail trimming. I went to get a refund at the register and the cashier apologized for the groomers actions. After I told the rude people I never had problems there before, they just kept repeating what they had already told me. The one woman said to never take my dog there again and that I need to take her someplace else. My dog is very sweet but does get very anxious at the groomers, but like I said, I never had an issue with any other groomer there before. read more

I have never been into a pet store where employees are so incredibly rude. I will never shop there again after how I was treated today. A few years ago they refused to sell me a feeder fish to my child because of my tank size and said I'd never return. Well I have a few times as they are close to me and let me tell you, NEVER AGAIN. But, PetSmart in Troy is AMAZING! Every single employee there is amazing. So kind and helpful. Stay away from the Utica location. read more

If you have a pug it's not allowed to be caged at this facility because of regulations, so do not bring your dog here. They have a system called fast track and that's just it fast track. They do a poor job in bathing your dog. This is where he generally gets his grooming done However, I kept noticing that he still smelled after getting his services done. I get him home & he still smelled this is unacceptable for $42.00 plus a $10.00 tip & he was still damp. the 2nd time I brought him thinking perhaps they were busy and I was treating it as a isolated incident & things happen. This time I arrived to pick him up and he was damp and he did not smell fresh. This time I called the store & spoke with Ann... she agreed to re-wash him however, after returning back to the store because of Covid... it's only one person allowed in the drop off area & after finally getting inside she had me just standing there no acknowledgement of me being inside just rude... after 10 minutes of waiting she said it's going to be another 5 minutes. Now my blood is about to boil over, I ask for Ann who I had spoke with on the phone she acknowledged me and said can I wait ? I lost it are you kidding me what did she think I was doing? Employees here are great. They price match too. I love taking my kitty here for pictures with Santa and the Easter Bunny.

Just like any other pet store, Pet Smart offers a variety of needs and wants for most pets. The store was clean, well presented and has a pet hotel. Kind of cool, but I doubt I'd ever just leave my dogs with someone that works the counter. Just my personal preference. My review on this particular Pet Smart is based on the woman that was "assisting" my boyfriend and I when we went in a few days ago. Her name is Martha. Martha was somewhat helpful, because she was able to show me where things were. However, I would have rather not encountered her at all. She was absolutely condescending, arrogant, and rude. I understand, I don't know everything there is to know about mother's replacement milk (our puppy is quite young), but there is no reason to take it out of my hand, and say to us "Here, I'll read you the ingredients and whenever you hear something that actually sounds like puppy food, you can stop me.." . Lol. I was speechless, and that's saying something. Then she proceeded to tell me what she thought to be best, and gave me a list of ingredients that included pancake syrup, goats milk, raw egg (raw? really? .. ) and some other off the wall ingredients and tells me that THIS is exactly what I'm supposed to do, because this is what SHE does. She THEN goes on to whisper to us.. "If you are interested, I know a woman that has fresh unpasteurized goats milk. She milks her goats and freezes the milk, and sells it. But if you tell anyone, I'll call you both liars". W T F. I'll be finding a new Pet Smart. It's sad how one awful (I wish I could underline awful a hundred times) employee can drive away business. On a happy note, all of the other employees I talked to were super friendly and nice. Find them. Avoid Martha. My star rating: I want to give it two stars, because of Martha. However, the other employee's and the overall appearance/cleanliness of the store earned it another star. Just duck and roll if you see Martha lurking in the aisles. read more

Smaller and older than the other PetSmart stores I've been to. They have a good selection, nice PetsHotel with a lobby, but the staff was what really sold the place. The girls and guy in pet care were super friendly and knowledgeable, the cashiers were friendly, and one of the girls in the hotel actually came out of the lobby when she saw me admiring the set up to say hello and ask if I needed help. Really friendly and helpful. read more

This review is on the Grooming Salon: I've been going her for a number of years. For the most part I've been please. But, here of late, I have noticed that my dog leaves here scratching as if she has fleas. I pay on average $90 a visit (not including tip) because I also get all the flea and tick treatments for her. This last visit, she couldn't stop scratching and biting her legs. When I lifted her up - her lower belly area was covered with blackish specs. For days I've been washing and spraying her down. After using a bunch of home remedies (which I finally saw the larger insects while washing) - I finally had to go and spend another $100 to buy products to rid her of these pest that are biting and leaving sores on her. Needless to say, I am done with this dirty flea infested salon. read more

RUDE GROOMERS. TOTALLY INEPT MANAGER, This seems to be a trend with this location. For some reason when I brought in my 15 pound shiba who was excited to be there and see new people, they immediately tried to put a muzzle on her. She didn't like that, shook her head and nipped at them. I explained there was no need for a muzzle, she was just excited. I said I'd been to Petsmart 3 other times with no issues, but that to make her comfortable I needed to stay with her for a few minutes while both myself and the groomer show her a little love. Instead, they kicked me out, saying they needed to see if she'll be ok with me there. WHAT!? As the owner, I know how to get my puppy to relax. So they continue to try putting a muzzle on her this time with me out of the room. She didn't want them putting it on her when I was there, what made them think she'll let them put it on her when I'm not there? So of course after about 30 seconds alone with her, they come get me and tell me they can't service my dog cause she's trying to 'bite' them. She is a 15 pound shiba, and is the nicest little dog in the world , not aggressive or mean at all, just excitable. Had they listened to me and let me stay with her for a few minutes while I pass her off, there would have been zero issues. I call the manager and the guy is clueless, I'm actually concerned he's a little slow. He kept mentioning how they 'can't keep a muzzle on the dog' while they groom her, basically implying they would have had to in order to service her. Again...WHAT!? That was the issue dude, had the groomers never took that damn muzzle out because my dog was excited, and never kicked me out of the room, they could have serviced her per usual. Anyways, STAY AWAY read more

This is a review for the grooming service. I've taken my Yorkie mix to them 4 times over the past year and every time has been a positive experience. The groomer is Allyson B and she does such a great job on my dog, Dodger. He's extremely anxious and high energy around other dogs and she seems to do a great job with him. As a dog owner/lover, it's important for me to feel comfortable leaving my dog with somebody and I feel that way every time. I definitely would recommend Alyson and confident the rest of the staff uses the same awesome practices as her. read more

Grooming salon staff was very rude and unprofessional. Groomer who just didn't want to groom my dog due to his hair length claimed he tried to bite her. He did not try to bite her and the lead groomer on staff lied and said she saw it even though the groomer was bent down behind the check in desk. Unless you have X-Ray vision there is no way to see what my dog and the groomer were doing BEHIND A DESK. Also if you were supposed to be doing your job how were you paying attention to what we were doing? I drove 40 minutes away because the groomer who we love and go to all the time at another petsmart location was out of town. This was the only availability and I am highly upset with the "service" I received. My dog has never bit a groomer or lunged at a groomer how this staff tried to say he did and he is 10 years old. He has been getting groomed since he was a puppy and he has NEVER bit anyone. I will never go back to this unprofessional location my dog and I deserve better. I'm having a hard time believing this groomer was so terrified she couldn't do her job because she still took the blue lead off of my dog after she claimed her wouldn't let her touch him. All if this after she felt all around his head and body. She even put the blue lead on my dog. After she felt his hair she quickly backed away took time to take the blue lead off and claim she couldn't groom him because he wouldn't let her touch him. If you were so scared of my dog how were you not only able to put the lead on him, but also take it off. She also didn't go back behind the check in desk, she stood right next to us. If you were so terrified my dog was going to bite you why not get out of the way and have me take the lead off? It doesn't make sense and proves they were lying. FYI just an update. The reason I was in a rush to get my dog groomed is because we had to unexpectedly leave the state. Since this groomer refused to groom my dog I had to take him to an out of state groomer. Not only was my dog able to get groomed, but the staff ranted and raved about how obedient and sweet my dog was. It just furthermore proves my point that the horrible people at this location were just lazy or overbooked and did not want to take the time needed to groom my dog. I have to reiterate how very unprofessional and rude these people were and I just can't get over the fact they lied on such a sweet dog to get out of doing their job. These people make me never want to shop at a petsmart again and I've been a customer for over 10 years. read more

I cannot believe I wasted my time in this place!!! I dropped my dog off for grooming, and had to stand around while the girls finished their conversation. When someone FINALLY noticed I was there, it went downhill! As if her sounding like she didn't even know what grooming was-SHE SMELLED AWFUL!! Greasy hair and B.O.! Ugh-I bet the gym next door has a more tolerable aroma. She said my groomer wasn't available to talk to me, which I found odd since it was my first visit. I would have liked to at least met the person who was going to be handling sharp objects around my dog. And when I tried to explain what the last groomer did, and that the hand dryer they use terrifies my dog, you would have thought I was speaking Klingon. After I left the grooming area, I thought I would check out some of the other things since I just moved here and need somewhere to get what I need for my dog. Considering the amount of urine spots I found on corners, poles and a spot right in the middle of the floor I sure won't be buying dog food here. And I watched at least 2 employees walk right past the spots and not even notice! One would think urine spots would stand out-but it almost seemed like they were oblivious to it.....is it that common here??? Then I was approached by someone who may have been the lady described in the last post-Martha. Although she did seem to be very knowledgeable, I don't appreciate being spoken down to because I don't prefer the most pricey or heavily marketed food on the shelves. Its not like I feed Beneful or something! She also seemed a little forceful about training. I saw her a few minutes later working with a young couple with a beagle mix I think, and it had its tail between its legs and kept trying to hide behind mom. She just stormed up to it and expected it to behave. I am not a trainer, but that just seemed very odd. I apparently was "lucky" enough to hit the tri-feca of WTH, as I ventured into the hotel. Hey why not-can a place really be incompetent in every arena? The answer to that is-YES!! First of all the prices are exorbitant. And since I don't choose to demolish my dog's immune system with vaccines, he is ineligible for any of the services. They do not accept titer testing. Well, of course not-I mean really, how accurate can MEDICAL TESTING and BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES really be??? And again, I got some rude woman who I wouldn't have left my dog with if it were free! So about 4 1/2 hours later I was called to come pick up my dog. He was finally done.....or so I thought. When I got there I was told he acted very badly (what??? this is a first), and that he had gone to the bathroom while they were drying him, and screamed the whole time. So I asked if they used the loud, forceful hand dryer and was told of course, that they use it on every dog. I was furious!!! I SPECIFICALLY told the smelly one that it would scare him-so before the person I hadn't yet met even groomed him, she tortured him! I asked if she knew not to use it, and she looked shocked. So A) No communication. Then I asked if it occurred to her to stop when he was so scared. Blank stare again B) No common sense. So I went to pay (an incredibly expensive bill IMHO), and came back in to get him. To stand there. And stand there. And look through the window into the back room to see 2 girls standing there laughing and joking around, while I waited. One finally looked up, and hurried up and started to get my dog. I am not sure what happened next as I didn't have a good view, but it sure looked like he tried to come out of the cage and got the door slammed in his face!! FINALLY I see him coming through the door, and am so angry and worried about him that I figured my best bet was to get him out of there and never make him come back. Here is what I got back: He came out choking himself to get to me-which is expected, but I didn't expect the "groomer" to let him do it. So as he gets closer, I see he is not at all cut the way I wanted it, and the way I described it with instructions from the last groomer. She told me what to tell them so it was clear. NOT! His eyebrows were all different lengths and not at all even. His ears were shaved-and not because of matting. She even told me I did a very good job brushing and he had no matts. His feet were smaller than his legs, and looked like he was walking on stumps-except for the nails that 8 out of 20 were cut to the vein. Really??? White nails???? After the first one bled you couldn't be more careful? And the piece de resistance-his tail was still wet. And not trimmed. At all. The look of panic on his face was not worth letting those incompetent ruffians put their hands on him again so I went immediately to the next shop that could get him in and had it fixed. I was fortunate enough to find a competent groomer who was very good with him-and had good hygiene to boot!! read more

This review is based on the Pet Hotel. I was very nervous to bring in my dog, because on her own turf, she is very protective, and can come off as downright scary! I walked in with my muzzled pup, and within minutes, the gals had her wagging her tail and enjoying a treat and getting ready for her stay. I seriously could not have been more at ease leaving my girl there for the weekend, as I felt she was in really good hands. I called the next to check on her, and the staff was really great with my inquiries as well. I was referred to Pet Smart by the trainer that had come to my house previously to work with us... I figured, if she worked there, and others were half as great as she was with my dog, I'd be in good hands. I will most certainly use their services again. I thought the cost ($33/night -holiday rates) were really reasonable as well.. Very happy and satisfied customer, and happy pooch!! Thanks Pet Smart!! read more
