First let me say we've taken all our dogs here for years and have always been happy! Our last visit, however, was exceptional. Our golden doodle was recently diagnosed with cancer and we had to amputate a leg. She was long overdue for grooming but there was nothing we could do until she was feeling up to it. Our groomer, Meg, let us bring her in at a slower time so it would be less stressful. Having never groomed a tripod, let alone one that was 2 weeks post-op, Meg took her time and did an excellent job. She was kind and understanding. We are so grateful! With all the chaos our little girl has been through, having her groomed and happy meant a lot. All that fur under her surgical suit was miserable. We have found such kindness in people since her diagnosis including the staff at Somerset!

Our second visit did not go as well as our first. Let's just say it's IMPORTANT TO LISTEN to what the customer wants. How many times should I have reiterated to leave the top of his head long? Not only did I say it multiple times to the groomer, but also the owner. Why even bother asking what I want? Sorry, but we're going elsewhere.

2nd time my dog has been cut here. The first was just a little snip. The second cut required a trip to the vet.

I have been a 6 yr, loyal customer of Somerset Grooming. I recently took them for a visit and heard an unfortunate story of a false yelp review. Being a very happy customer of Somerset's Grooming I want to point out how wrong this is. Chris, the owner, not only loves what she does, she is so very patient and loves my crazy animals. She is a professional with great technique and skill. I am upset because this is something that could potentially hurt this business and we do not have many left like this one. In a world where corporations are taking over the "mom and pops" with a heart, I do not want to eventually have to take my beloved dogs to a corporate chop shop like Pet Smart ever again. Yelp reviewer Kimberly S once confused this establishment for Somerset Dog Kennels, leaving her dog well past closing on her one visit. When she attempted to make her 2nd appt, she was told the shop was not a good match. The situation was very professionally handled but when someone is not used to being told no, they sometimes do very backhanded things out of spite... And this leads us to the problem, when entitled consumers feel they have been slighted they will fabricate stories. Sadly the internet has given voice to those who feel they deserve special treatment and this is why the rest of us can't have nice things. Kimberly, you tripped yourself up in your exaggerated story. Why would you return even a second time if "every" time you took your dog there was a problem? An injured eye, toe or infestation.. just ONE of these things and even the most careless pet owner wouldn't be back. Come on now.. I am one of "those" dog moms, I've attached a picture of my baby from today's visit.. Would a Troy housewife take her little toy dog with a bow to a woman like Kimberly S. describes? Never.

This place is amazing. I used to go to petsmart and they butchered my pups (Yuki) hair so I decided to check this place out because of the reviews and distance. They did an amazing job with my 5 month old. She came home less fussy than she normally does after coming from the groomers and they even put a little cute flowered bow on her. The last time I took my pup to petsmart, they made her hair uneven and they shaved her to the point where there was almost no fur. Somerset Groomers evened out her and made it look amazing. I will definitely be back each and every time I need yuki to get groomed.

My 60lb doodles; yes, we have two. Their names are Finn and Ollie and they love the crew at Somerset Dog Grooming. They are very flexible with scheduling and have always done a great job. The biggest part of any service relationship is communication and I have always had great experiences with this team.

Chris was absolutely wonderful, gentle, caring and personally made sure the dog's time at the shop was limited.

Bottom line - not clean and said they use force ("corrections") with your dog…read more We had an appointment for an evaluation of our dog's temperament. This was around 9am and we were the only people there other than the staff - which we only saw 2 people. While our dog was getting evaluated and we filled out paperwork, I was observing the dog play area. There were 2 piles of poop in there when we arrived. I don't know how long they'd been there already. But 20 minutes later as we were getting ready to leave, those 2 piles had turned into at least 4 piles (that I could see). Nobody appeared to been observing the dogs let alone cleaning up after them. I asked the person at the front desk (asst. mgr?) about cleanup and he didn't seem at all concerned. He basically said someone comes around once in a while to clean up. Thankfully, my dog is not a poop eater - although I've had dogs in the past that were - and I can understand sometimes it may take a few minutes to get to cleanup. But this was just nasty. I wanted to like this place because our dog loves to play and is very spirited with other dogs. This chain seems to have a philosophy of letting dogs be dogs and regulate their own play unless things get out of hand. I think that's ideal as long as the dogs are screened first and are being monitored so someone can step in quickly if needed. I was just not confident that would happen here. The last straw for me was when my dog passed the evaluation but the staff member talked about sometimes using "corrections" with dogs. I am a believer in force-free training (positive reinforcement), and I understand there might need to be exceptions needed for emergencies when dogs must be separated quickly, but I'm just not ok with strange men giving my 16 pound dog a "correction" of any kind. Google the term if you want to know what it might mean, or better yet ask Hounds Town and make sure you're comfortable with it. They don't have live camera feeds available like some other places, so you are putting your trust in them, and if this was how things when down when they had a first time potential client, I can't imagine how much worse things might be at other times. We have tried 4 local places and still feel I haven't found the ideal doggie day care / boarding place. There have been a couple of acceptable ones, but this one would be a last resort for us.
