My local Petco cancelled on me as soon as I arrived one early morning. But, Catherine's Pet Parlor saved the day. They were able to squeeze my toy Yorkie in the same day and she was cut exactly how I wanted for the heatwave. They took great care of her and I'll be sure to return. The prices were very reasonable and you can tell that they take pride in their work and clientele. There is ample parking in the front and rear. The total service time did not exceed 3 hours and everyone was extremely friendly. Summer and I will most definitely be back! read more

Great place awesome environment nice staff. They really care about the dogs and their well-being as well.

I do not recommend taking your pet to Catherines Pet Parlor in Royal Oak, Mi. Two separate owners, same time, same place, same injuries, same breed. They both came home with blood in their eyes. Both Vets ( different doctors) said it was caused from strangulations from the harness being too tight around their necks! professionals will be handling this! I just pray this will not happen to any ones fur baby! read more

My dog looked fine at first, but upon further inspection, I could see her groom as uneven in some spots and they left her tail long which I asked them specifically not to. But, worst of all, I discovered a cut in her ear and under her right front armpit. My dog is 10, has gone to the groomer 2-3 times a year throughout her life and has never come home with cuts on her. It was the most I've ever paid for a groom as well. Definitely, would not recommend. Edited to add: I've inspected her further and discovered another cut under her other front armpit as well. Why was I not notified of this so I could make sure to treat it so they don't get infected? read more

When we moved to this area six years ago, I spent considerable time looking for a place to have Lady groomed. She's a rescue (doxie/cocker spaniel mix, we think) and can be aggressive at times. She enjoys going for grooming at Catherine's and everyone who handles her there does so with kindness and professionalism. Happy dog who looks and smells great! read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. I went in today to get my puppy groomed and I was beyond disappointed. I got her groomed one time before this at a different establishment and everything went great, here- she came out looking like a mess. First of all, they told me that my puppy would be ready for pick up in 4-5 hours. I told them it was only her second time getting groomed so she may be a little anxious (as most puppies are) and they said "no worries we will take care of her." I am sorry to say that was not the case. I called after the 5 hour mark to check in and they told me it was going to be another 1.5 hours until I could get her because they had not even started. If I would have known that my dog would be in a cage waiting for 6 hours I would have never taken her here in the first place. 5 hours is even a stretch for me because I don't normally keep her in a cage at home and I knew she would be anxious. If they would have nicely communicated that to me, I would have kindly went somewhere else, but they misinformed me. Second, I asked them 3 times to not cut her ears AT ALL. I said you can give her a puppy cut everywhere else but do not cut her ears. I walked in and her ears were cut by 2 inches. I was beyond disappointed. I communicated this numerous times to the owner that her ears were my only preference to stay and she said she understood - then there was a miscommunication down the line and they cut two inches off of them?? Then when I said something they said "it was just a trim" -I asked them not to touch them at all and it was not a trim, it was a full two inches. Third, when I got home I noticed she had about 4 matts still on her body. I am so confused on how this even happens when giving a pup cut. And this is why we brought her in the first place. Fourth, the fur around her private areas was still strangely long like they just happened to miss it? Which was also strange because this is why we brought her in- so stuff doesn't get in her fur anymore. Fifth, when I expressed my concerns they were kind enough to refund me, however, they said my puppy was "a bit of a pistol" to groom. I thought that comment was completely inappropriate and out of line considering she's a 7 month old puppy... not only that but i bet she was hard to groom after being in a cage and anxious for 6 hours when we don't cage her at home. (Nothing wrong with putting your dogs in a cage but my dog just isn't used to it so after 6 hours I'm sure she was terrified). I thought blaming their poor job grooming her on her being a "pistol" to groom was out of line entirely. The last place that groomed her did an amazing job and never once complained about her behavior. I felt like that was an excuse and a negative comment that wasn't needed. Lastly, they did a patchy job everywhere on her. I attached pictures for reference. I also put a before and after photo for reference for her ears that they "trimmed." Her paws have strange random hairs poking out like they just failed to get them on every paw? If it was just one thing that happened, then sure, everyone makes mistakes, but for this many things to happen from one appointment I was honestly overwhelmed. I don't like to be the person to leave negative reviews but I do not recommend going here EVER. If you care about your dog take them literally ANYWHERE else. read more

I've come here a few times, but today they impressed me. I brought in my 14 month old shih-tzu who I haven't been able to brush properly due to a recently broken hand. I knew he had lots of mats all over. The previous visit he had very few. So I was forewarned they may need to shave - to get underneath those mats - for the dog's safety. I understood but hoped they could keep his hair as long as possible - do as best they could. Well - his hair is certainly cut shorter than it was the previous visit - but he's got notable hair and looks pretty good. And the cut is even. Just a nice all around job. read more

i like when groomers great your dog by name and make them feel welcome .. they did not do that here and were not overly friendly to me.. when i picked my dog up it was obvious they had not given him water as his toung was hanging out and he panted all the way home rushing to get a drink and kept coming back to the water dish for more water...sad... also i was not told when i called for an apt that it is CASH only and at 5pm when i went to pickup my dog they told me then. rather and inconvience as i had rarely use cash and had to stop to get cash so i could pick up my dog.. Took our 7 month F1 goldendoodle for his first haircut today. I chose Catherine's based on many positive reviews. Being COVID, the procedures were a tad different, and I was nervous to just drop him off for his first time. The lady who checked us in offered to get one of the owners to discuss what we wanted. I felt very comfortable with the staff, and our puppy followed them in without ever looking back! they did a great job, and he was his happy silly self when we picked him up. I took my 1 year old Goldendoodle there for the first time and will definitely be back! We just moved to the area and found Catherine's online. Our girl had recently been spayed and with her "cone of shame" on for 3 weeks, her hair was so matted. We were nervous to bring her in because we knew she would have to be shaved down and had never been to this groomer before. Catherine's took great care of her and the visit was great! They were very apologetic about the fact that she had to be shaved completely, but we knew that was going to have to happen in order to get the mats out. They took great care of her and she was in great spirits when I picked her up! It's a no-fuss salon but that's all we needed. We dropped her off early in the morning and she was done by 1pm. We are very happy with our experience! read more

Catherine's is usually a safe bet for your grooming needs. They are pricey and very busy (they're booking 3 months out). I started this review to write about the person answering the phones. She was unnecessarily rude. I get it you're busy, but don't be rude to me because of it. When she told me (in July) that their first appointment is October 18th, I said "Oct. 18th!?!" I couldn't believe it. The girl on the phone says "YEAH! Oct 18th!". I took the appointment and asked to be put on the wait list. She asked for my dogs name me: "Lacy" her: "ok Gracy. What's the last name? Me: no, it's Lacy her: ...and phone number? WTH? I started to give my phone number, but figured I didn't need the rudeness, and they wouldn't even see her until Oct. so I hung up. I called back to tell them to just forget the appointment. My experience with Catherine's has always been hit or miss. Some great experiences, and some terrible cuts (missed spots, clear shaver marks in fur), red swollen eye once (they offered free grooming as the eye was better the next afternoon they said probably soap in the eye), now rude front desk and in my opinion, unacceptable wait time (3+ months) for an appointment. Needless to say... it's time to find another groomer. At $50 (60 with tip), there are definitely better places. No, I would not recommend...even if I did, you wouldn't be able to get in!..lol! read more

The VERY VERY BEST!!! They do a great job with the utmost love and care for our cherished family members.

I've been very satisfied with the services at Catherine's. I've taken my Pomeranians here twice and each time they've left with nice scissor cuts. It has also been great to find a groomer who has availability on a regular basis and doesn't have extremely restrictive and rigid hours. During my first visit at Catherine's she took me on a tour of the salon and made sure I was comfortable with where my dogs would be while they were groomed. This was very comforting, as few groomers will let you freely walk around their grooming facilities. The only reason I have 4 stars and not 5 is because it's cash or check only. It's 2014 and I think it's time to start taking credit/debit. I really didn't want to deduct an entire star for this, maybe half a star at most, but yelp doesn't allow this. read more

I really have mixed feelings about Catherine's, and wish I could give a better rating. I am incredibly disappointed. Up until this past Wednesday, I've had good experiences taking both of my dogs to get their nails trimmed, including shaving the fur down on the bottom of their paws. On Wednesday, I took my Mastiff/Lab mix to get shaved down. This was a first time for me and my dog. I realize that maybe I didn't have accurate expectations or know what my options were. I relied on their reputation and expertise to know what would be best for my dog. When they were done, my dog had a very short cut. The groomer shaved her belly bare and backside very closely, too closely in my opinion. I feel like I need to put a skirt on her because her lady bits are so exposed and her belly is starting to get a rash. Yesterday, I noticed that she has a very red swollen spot between her pad on one of her back paws that clearly looks like it was from the shaver. It's obviously painful because she won't leave the patio because the grass poking into her paw and irritates it. I realize that dogs move, jerk or whatever and stuff like this can happen. What bothers me is that they didn't tell me when I called to find out if she was ready. I asked how she did, especially since this was her first time & she said everything went very well. I had my cousin pick her up and they didn't say anything to her either. There are so many other options in the area, I really don't think I'll go back. read more

Absolutely love Catherine's! We're newer clients but will NEVER go anywhere else. My golden doodle looks so good when he comes home and feels like a cloud. My family and I have been taking our dogs to Catherine's for about 20 years. Catherine's is the BEST dog grooming facility in the Detroit area! In fact, I live in CT now and I try to time my visits back to MI so my dogs can be groomed at Catherine's. The staff is fantastic, especially Sarah. She is so patient and understanding with my one dog that isn't the best behaved at the groomer. She tries different techniques until she finds what works for him so he is comfortable and not stressed out while he is there. Also, my dogs always come back to me looking so handsome and cut perfectly to my specifications. I also want to mention that Catherine and her staff are wonderful with senior dogs. We had a pup that lived to be quite a little old lady at 17 years old. She had always been an easy dog to groom until she started getting older. Catherine personally groomed her and she continuously worked with us to make it as comfortable as possible for her as she got older. I know that when I drop my dogs off at Catherine's, not only will they come back looking perfect, but I know they are well taken care of. The staff is made up of true dog lovers. These groomers are working there because they love dogs and they love what they do - they aren't just collecting a paycheck. Catherine - can you please move to CT??? :-) read more

Wow. Love love love. My first visit to Catherine's was last week. Took my nervous, immature, tends-to-be-bitey-to-strangers mutt in for a nail trimming. The place was packed. There must have been 10 groomers all busy with furry friends. I was greeted quickly by staff and my mutt was served almost immediately. She put a muzzle on him, was very gentle and soothing with him. He was shaking nervously and his tail was between his legs but she was calming and worked very quickly to trim his nails. It only cost $10 and I was in and out in less than ten minutes. OH! and it was clean, clean, clean. That's always a plus in my book. read more

We have been taking our dogs to Catherine's for 19 years - several generations of much-loved dogs, including two very elderly, frail guys who needed lots of TLC during their grooming. Without exception, every visit has been a great experience for us and, most importantly, for our dogs. All of our dogs LOVE to go to Catherines, which tells me a lot about the care they receive there. They come home looking great, smelling great, and with great care paid to special aspects of the groom like ear cleaning, anal gland emptying, paw pad clipping. A special shout-out to Terri and Bonny, the women who groom the two dogs we have now. They're perfectionists in the grooming, gentle, know our dogs well. On several occasions, they've alerted us to issues they've found during the groom - bumps under the skin, a swollen gland, etc - that require veterinary attention. My husband and I are VERY particular about the people and businesses we entrust with the care of our dogs, and we TRUST Catherine's Pet Parlor completely. read more

Today was my first time bringing my fur baby in ( recommendation from a friend) I can say I will not be going back. On an 18 degree day I pick my dog up to find her shaved. When clear instructions to leave her "still furry" on her body. I have a 5lb yorkie and now looks like a 5lb dear. Also they did cut her nails but I had to come home to file them myself because they were razor sharp. I can say I will not be returning to this establishment and am very dissapointed with their work. Although the staff was very friendly, just not well with instruction and apparently don't do terrier cuts often. read more

Catherine's Pet Parlor is now my groomer of choice for Riley, my pup. I took Riles in for the first time on Saturday and this grooming went way better then at the last place! I dropped him off right at 730am when they opened and they were super friendly and were very interested in exactly what I wanted. They said I could pick him up at 11am (which I was glad about because I hate leaving him all day) and told me that since it was our first visit we get $5 off. Nice! The place was nice and looked clean and I really liked how the grooming is out in the open. When I went back at 11am Riley was ready for me, no waiting for him at all. The parking lot is a little small, so that can be tough, but other than that the whole experience was pleasurable for both of us. Riley looked super cute and was cut exactly how I had requested. I was looking for a new place to take my dogs to since we moved to Royal Oak and I think I found it in Catherine's! They were great to our dogs and they came home nice and clean. They did exactly what I wanted for our long haired doxie. The bows on their collars were a nice touch as well. The inside was very clean and I liked that I could see them grooming all the dogs...all of which looked very happy! The one downside was that they only take cash or checks, no credit cards.
