I'm so happy that Pets mart is close by. We are customers at the Sonora, Ca branch. This is where we buy our food and shampoo for our fur babies. It's a very clean store and the employees are helpful and polite. My husband and I visit the rescue cats that Sonora Cat Rescue have there when we go in for our purchases. Their living quarters are clean and not crowded. This is where we adopted our precious Gypsi Blue. I recommend Sonora Cat Rescue for adoptions. And I recommend Sonora PetsMart for your supplies! I volunteer for the cat rescue that partners with this PetSmart location. I spent considerable time in the store, and it's always a positive experience. The staff is friendly and helpful, the managers are always supportive, and everyone's genuine desire to serve pets and their humans is obvious. I continually watch them rally around each other and their clients when there is a need. Manager Alan makes his staff feel like family, and that is obvious in their desire to exceed his expectations. read more

I've been taking my dogs to PetSmart long before I move to Sonora. In the beginning after moving here I was happy with the service but now the quality has gone down. My dogs use to smell so good after their appointments but now it's an up charge for good smelling shampoo. The prices keep increasing while you get way less for your money. Twice now they have forgotten to put my dog's collar on and I have had to make a separate trip to retrieve it. And I don't live close to PetSmart. If I'm going to pay more and receive less well i might as well go to a private owned dog groomers and probably pay more but hopefully I will get more back for my buck. So disappointed!!! I scheduled a grooming appointment for my two dogs today -- Sunday -- so I didn't have to take time off work. I made the appointment Thursday online. So far, so good! Super convenient, quick registration, they even have an online check in process! My first dog, 12 years old, had her appointment at 10:00 a.m., and the other, 4 years old, at 11:00 a.m. I got a call from the groomer at 9:58 a.m. -- I assumed it was to confirm the appointment, and I told her that I was literally pulling into the parking lot. The groomer told me she could not take my older dog as there are no vet services in town on a Sunday should there be a medical emergency. I asked why she was just calling me -- that I live 30 minutes away, and they should have called me the day before. Further, the appointment should not have been scheduled in the first place!! I called to talk to the manager on duty, Charles, who agreed to all the things that "should have happened," but was not willing to make any concessions. He stated that because I made the appointment online, the system allowed my senior dog to be booked. He stated that the groomer "should have" checked the appointment the day before, and he will let her know to do that in the future. I let Charles a it is PetSmart's problem is their system is broken, not mine! They had the wherewithal to ask if I wanted to reschedule!!?!! No I do not! I called Wilco just to see if they have restrictions on older dogs and they do not! They said they receive calls about PatSmart often for the same reason. Wilco offered me an appointment for today, had me sign a waiver for my old dog, and took them both right in. The personal touch, proper training, and customer service make all the difference. I haven't actually been inside of this Petsmart - but my husband dashed in here this past Wednesday and Thursday to pick up some basics for our newly adopted kitten. He found the staff to be very helpful and he found the aisles to be well stocked and well organized. We picked up some great toys here for our lovely new kitten. She's been loving them and I'm sure we'll be making many more trips here to pick up additional key items for the new addition to our family. Trust. read more

If you have special needs kids do not take them to this store. . Just meet the rudest person ever. I took my granddaughter into buy a couple of fish, and to let her look at the fish because she loves fish. When she was looking at the fish, she was jumping around and excited and you could just tell the girl waiting on customers was irritated and she kept saying could you move over so I can do this? Yes I said, and I did. I asked to buy a couple of fish when she got through with the customer she was with, and she wouldn't even look at me. I told her my granddaughter was special-needs and just enjoyed coming in and looking at the fish, but this girl was so rude and irritated that we were even in the store my granddaughter put her hand on a small cart and it rolled about 6 inches to get a better view of the fish. She did not try to climb on it and the girl said could you not let her on that and I said she's not on it she didn't even try to climb on it she was just moving it aside to look at the fish. She said she has to follow the rules; so a person can't touch anything in the store. I went to the manager and complained , but this is one of the rudest people I've ever come across, no compassion at all for special needs kids. read more

I took my dog in for a grooming appt. The groomer, named Megan, didn't do a good job and he was hurt badly. His nail was cut wrong and the nail was hanging off. It was cut too short and it split. He was in a lot pain and not acting like himself so we took him to his vet. Come to find out he jerked back and hurt his back. He's currently on pain meds and will be going in for surgery to remove the rest of his nail. After surgery is when we'll find out how much damage has been done to his back. I don't know how much training their groomers get but she should've known how to handle a large dog. We will not be going back to petsmart. read more

I have taken my dogs to pets mart in Palmdale and loved the work they did. This pertsmart is horrible!!!! When I came to pick the dogs up all they did was complain about both of them, one said that I need to get all of the energy out of Ozzy, the male and that he peed everywhere. Maddie, the female didn't like her nails grinded and they acted like they couldn't wait to get rid of them, Victor was particularly rude and did a horrible job on her!! i also found a hole under Maddies ear! Dear PetSmart shift manager on the night of Friday March 18, 2016: Admittedly, I came in late that evening 30 minutes before the store was closing. But I clearly also did not enjoy to drive 30 miles just because I needed a crate for my two American Eskimo dogs, so your help in selecting the right product would have been appreciated instead of scolding me that I should have come in earlier. I get it, you wanted to go home, but I'm sorry, your business says that you are open until 9pm. You are probably right, I was just too naive to believe that friendly customer services is something that can be expected from a nationwide business. I had just come up for a nice weekend to the mountains, and wanted to pull my dogs on a sled with my snowmobile, so I could take them on a backcountry ski trip the next day. I arrived late afternoon after a 3 hour drive from the Bay Area at our mountain home where the sled was parked. It's unfortunate that I hadn't measured the sled before, but it was obvious to me pretty quickly that I couldn't use the two 30'' crates I use in the car, since they wouldn't fit. Luckily, I thought, the Sonora PetSmart was open until 9pm. So, I called ahead, checked whether you had 36'' crates available that fit both dogs, ate a very quick snack and checked the crate measurements on the PetSmart web page. I even checked store availability online for a specific model. Then I was on the road again to drive the 30 miles to Sonora. I thought it was a quick thing. Walk in, pick the crate that had the right measurements for my snowmobile sled trailer, pay and walk out. Well, it was more complicated than that. I realized that all crates that you had on display had different dimensions listed on the packaging, but looked like they pretty much had the same size. Yes, it's because some have lips where you screw the two halves together, and some have not. It wasn't clear whether some packages had the outer and some had the inner dimensions on the crate listed on the packaging. To make matters worse, I forget a measurement tape at home. The display units were high up on the shelves, so the only chance I had to take a closer look was to take off the disassembled sale units from the shelf, and put them next to each other to compare. That's when, dear shift manager, you suddenly stood next to me and asked if you could help. I was glad, so I explained my predicament that I didn't quite understand the dimensions, and asked whether you perhaps had a measuring tape that I could borrow. I explained that I had to put the crate on a snowmobile utility sled, and had little space. You mumbled something that you did not have a measurement tape, and that the guys in shipping may have one, but you didn't know where they kept their stuff.The only thing you offered was that the crates were pretty much the same (which they are not). So, feeling that you really didn't seem to be willing to go out of your way to help me, I continued to put the crate next to each other to see whether I could spot the difference in construction and why they had different dimensions when so apparently they were almost of the same size. I kept comparing, and was slightly irritated that you just stood next to me without offering any kind of advice, but I carried on. At some point you intervened and tried to stop me from laying out the crates on the floor, at which point I asked to be left alone because apparently you weren't helping. You declined to do so, and just reiterated that the crates were all the same and that I should just choose one. I explained again my issue that the crates were not the same, and that I had very specific measurement restrictions. I offered to buy all 3 crates and return the ones that didn't work, but you then told me that you wouldn't sell me anything. You called me "destructive and disruptive". I looked at you in disbelief, but you were serious. That was the point where a few sharp words were exchanged. You reiterated that according to the law of California, you had the right to refuse to provide service for whatever reason, and that's what you would do. In the end I realized that you really weren't going to sell me anything. You said that the registers were closed and that I should have come earlier, even though it wasn't 9pm yet. I wanted to take my boys out into the snow the next day, and so the only course of action I saw at this point was to profusely apologize that I had made such a mess. I didn't know what I had to apologize for other than comparing units, but I saw no other choice. You finally calmed down, allowed me to choose 2 different crates, I paid, and you even helped me carry the crates to my car. Do not make my dogs appointment for 12:00, come out at 12:10, take the dog in front of me, who also had an appointment at 12:00 p.m, and then tell me it's going to be 20 minutes, then proceeds to ask me if that's okay three times. I told her my appointment was at 12:00 and she said "I know I'm really sorry." Why didn't you just make the appointment for 12:30 when I made it two days ago? I was on time because I respect your time and business. No it's not ok. I will give my business and encourage others to use local dog groomers in the future which I should have done in the first place. I get a call at 1230 from girl telling me she might be able to squeeze my dog in if I still wanted. No thank you. And quit using covid-19 as an excuse for poor customer service because I'm sick of it. read more

This review is about the training classes offered at PetSmart, specifically the puppy class. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY THERE. The character that masquerades as a trainer there is nothing more than the store manager's daughter, and from what I've seen, she likes dogs but she's no trainer. We arrived a few minutes early. Instead of being honest and ask us to wait a few minutes for class time, she started by insulting my intelligence by saying that walking the puppy around the store is part of training. Um, honey, I do this everyday, I don't need to pay $119 to walk my dog around your store. Then, because my dog is an untrained puppy, (duh that's why I signed up in the first place) she jumped up and put her front paws on the trainer. Now ANY trainer worth their pay knows that a large breed puppy should absolutely not be allowed to fall on their front paws until their growth plates are closed, which at 4 months, they obviously aren't, but the trainer clearly had no clue, stepped back without warning and let my puppy fall on her front paws. "She'll learn" she said... never mind if I injure your dog, by god she'll learn. Lol. If that weren't enough, when the class officially started, the "trainer" started to talk and talk and talk nonstop about the dumbest things imaginable, including her dog at home (yawn) and it became rapidly very clear that the "trainer" was nothing more than an egotistical ignoramus who was completely clueless about puppies health or their psychology nevermind their development. Guys... The class is supposed to be an hour long, she talked out of her ass for 40 minutes. Then she wanted me to practice "watch me" with my dog but by then my puppy (4 months old) was as tired as she was upset and her focus was nowhere and when I kept telling her that all that talk was going nowhere and to please get started, instead of addressing what I'd said she had the nerve to make this all about her own convenience. Her name is Antoni, and I'm sorry to say that her IQ is as low as her ego is high, she is clueless, self impressed, ineffectual, and so full of stuff she probably uses her ears as flush handles. So when she thankfully suggested that I take my puppy out for a potty break, I grabbed my stuff and went straight to my car and then home: My pup was upset, tired, nervous and this entire experience was exactly NOT what the goal is when training a puppy. Ask any trainer: Training, especially a puppy, is supposed to be fun so the dog wants to repeat that experience and learn. But what my puppy and I experienced at PetSmart with Antoni was anything but. I will never ever EVER go back there. I emailed, requested an immediate refund, so far I haven't heard back from them. Wouldn't it be hilarious to also have to file a complaint with the BBB and get my bank to retrieve my money? read more

I used to take all of my dogs to this exact pet groomer. One day as i was slowly walking in so as not to have my dog see me... the groomer didnt see me Either and had my Bichon by the shoulders and yelling at him scream "knock it the eff off!!" I was absolutely in shock!! I contacted and reported the incident to Petsmart Corporate. Heather asks for my number but my number for the rewards account well my number always has issues so I pull up the barcode or the card for them too scan heather stares blankly at the barcode like she's never seen it and just repeats number ok well the number doesn't work and no one else has ever had a problem with scanning the barcode that they in fact helped me do by showing me the app tHe log in and how to make it easier as number don't always work I m now reminded why u don't shop here and would rather spend more money at the mom and pop pet stores as Heather was such a bundle of rude and couldn't seem to use her big girl words to say anything other then number. read more

I brought my dog in for grooming and asked if I could leave a note in his chart where two moles are (as they had been clipped off before causing an infection) in hopes that groomers would be careful in the area. The salon leader, Kenzie, was extremely rude and had an unwillingness to be careful around moles. I will no longer be taking my dogs there as caring about my dogs comfort and health seems to be too much to ask. read more

We adopted a mix breed lab pup and she is full of love but wild. I didn't have high hopes for the PetSmart dog classes but it's what fit our schedule. I was pleasantly surprised! Like any training program you have to put in the work but we have seen major improvements with our dog. The class is clearly scripted (chain store) but the traininer Antonia is knowledgeable and will give you tips for dealing with any problem behaviors. I plan to sign up for the next set of classes. Absolutely LOVE this PETsMART! I take both my dogs here to be groomed. All the groomers are amazing! Karen goes above and beyond! My older dog shakes when she realizes I will be leaving her. Karen will lay on the floor, talk to her and love on her. And for someone who loves their pets and treats them better than other humans this is a BIG deal! They all really focus on making the animals comfortable. Then The other night I went in just to have their nails trimmed and the manager Pat was there with Mckenzie. They did a great job and when the system had an issue instead of making me wait and try and figure out what was wrong just said it was on them! I had been considering pricing other grooming places closer to where I live but now I definitely won't bother. I'll always take them there with this kind of service! read more

Big box store in a small town gives great selection of products, as well as great service. I have some of my dogs groomed here too. GREAT grooming service. The groomers are gentle and considerate with the dogs and are very clear about the service your dog is to receive. They handle my visually-challenged senior dog with extreme care. In fact, their care in scheduling him is something other groomers charge a premium for since I want him to spend the minimum amount of time there. Great selection, friendly, helpful staff and a good parent company who supports the canine community. I'm pleased they continue to edit their products to ensure American-made, safe foods for our dogs' consumption. read more

Coming out of Yelp retirement with a purpose. In light of the crisis currently raging around the world, Coronavirus, I want to highlight the state of affairs in a small, almost non-existent town. Walked into this location on Friday, March 27, for a reason. We were met at the door by four employees lined up almost shoulder to shoulder inquiring why we were there. Why did they think we were there?! I said we were just looking; looking for things I couldn't find elsewhere, I wanted to say, but did not. I said are you open?That did not make Community Cashier 467518 happy. She continued to question us, saying we are trying to limit foot traffic. Wow. She continued to question us, while I'm looking at other customers in the store, a total of three to be exact. If she was concerned about us coming in the store, possibly bringing something contagious into that store, why then were they standing shoulder to shoulder? Six-foot social distancing is in force, so why aren't they practicing it! I believe the only way we got past this was because my companion yells cat food! Now look, when you've got no customers and a store full of pet food to sell you can at the very least attempt to be nice! She was not. As a result I will not be back. Additionally, I hope that store closes and she finds herself out of a job. Would be well deserved. Nasty business. read more

Took my two little dogs for grooming yesterday. We've been going here for two years and our dogs are never cut the same. I have a bichon and gave specific instructions about not making him look like a French poodle. She did absolutely nothing I requested. she shaved his curls off and made him look like a fuzz ball. Also shaved his muzzle which I have always said don't do. He has a cute little curly muzzle (shaved). We have a little wheaton maltese and always get him a snauzer cut. Only thing he resemble a snauzer was his whiskers and eye brows the rest was shaved. I paid $130.00 for this pleasure. She also told me my dog had two fleas but didn't see them until she was done grooming him? I would recommend finding another groomer in town - they need to go back to grooming school. read more

Terrible customer service, went to buy some dog food and toys for my dog. Patty the customer service person was very rude and acted like it was a big inconvenience to answer questions about the dog food. Seems to me that asking a few questions about dog food should not make person that is there to help customers mad. Patty seemed to very unhappy about something and took it out on me. From now on I will go to Tractor Supply or Tia's Tubs & Toys. Pet Smart managers should send their employees to customer service school and find out why Patty is so rude and unhappy with working at Pet Smart. It was a great day when Petsmart came to our small Sierra town of Sonora. Before then, we had to get pet food at Walmart, if we didn't want to pay a fortune. That was a zoo and always took forever, and didn't have much of a selection. Petsmart is SO MUCH MORE than a grooming salon, and while I understand why people would be upset about bad dog grooming, it isn't fair to write a mean review of the entire store because of one bad dog groomer. The pet food and lcat litter prices are terrific, they have virtually everything one could want for any pet, and the management and staff is always knowledgable and helpful. Petsmart has a beautiful area for cat adoptions and works with a local rescue organization to find, rescue and place adoptable cats and kittens. Also, you can bring your own pet there while you're shopping. Also, you can returm unopened cans of pet food if your pet hates your selection. My family loves going to Petsmart and I love the prices and selection. Also, their own store brand of food is excellent quality, unlike any other store where their cheap store brands are horrible and sometimes dangerous. The only thing they don't have there are motorized shopping carts for people with disabiities, which I do think is shameful, but a bunch of us are working on this and hopefully Petsmart's top managment will wise up so we don't have to shop elsewhere because we can't walk around the large store. Not all groomers are good, but everyone wants to do a good job, and possibly there was a communication problem in those cases. If you don't want to bring your dog there to be groomed then don't, but you're doing yourself and your community a disservice by bashing Petsmart, because they are WAY less expensive and snooty than Petco. Ive been taking my poodle-multi mix here for sev years and I am happy with the store and grooming dept. The grooming dept has had a few ups and downs but I believe there groomers are doing a better job than a yr or so ago. I had one groomer that I was not to happy about but I believe she is no longer there. I continue to take my little dog here and I actually just made an appt for tomorrow. read more

Where do I begin.... had a grooming appt (that I booked through the app) that I had to switch to a different day due to scheduling conflict with a vet appt. Could not cancel online so I had to call but prior to calling I researched a new time a date I wanted to make appt for. Ended up being the day prior at 5pm (according to the app). I called to switch the appt and they said the latest they take dogs is 4:30. I said well the app says 5 so I can just book that time. The employee informed me that they end up calling the owner and informing them that 4:30 is that latest appt. SO WHY DOES THE APP EVEN LET YOU BOOK A 5pm APPT???? So I said ok put my dog down for the 4:30 appt..... hours later they call me back and say that they have to cancel my appt because my dog is 13 years old and there are no vets open past 5:30 so they don't groom dogs that old that late in the evening?! Terrible customer service. She should have looked at my dogs account BEFORE rescheduling her and giving me the run around. read more

Have taken my dog to the groomer twice, first time was great, second time was a DISASTER! Have been offered a free "express" grooming, which we may take them up on, considering I had to pick him up mid-groom because the groomer had cut his nail so short it bled and he limped for three days...he came home soaked, matted beyond repair and YELLOW with stiptic powder. So, there are good days and bad at the groomer there. I've had a lovely chat with the manager, we're going to take him in late, when he'll be alone and they'll stay with him all the way thru the process. read more

The staff here is kind and courteous in most of my experiences here, however the business has some very rude people in management. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, you have to remember that this is a massive store chain, and not a local business. This comes with some obvious things to look out for. First, much of the staff is unknowledgeable about the animals themselves. The staff can all tell you on which isle to find dog toys, or anything else I'm sure, however when it comes to knowledge about animal husbandry, the experience levels flux dangerously from representative to representative. What I mean by this is that you can get people who know exactly what they are doing, or you can get people who smiled at the right times at their interview and know nothing about the animals. *ABOUT THE REPTILES* I also feel it's important to mention their reptile department. I would warn anyone hoping to get a snake or any other reptile away from PetSmart, especially beginner or first-time keepers. PetSmart keeps their snakes unhandled and will not allow handling of unpurchased snakes (in my experience with PetSmart). The enclosures are VERY small (but appear relatively clean), and I was told by an employee that they "only open the cages to dump them (the snakes) in there (the tiny glass enclosures) and to feed them". This means any snake purchased here will likely associate enclosure opening with feeding and be much shyer, more aggressive, and more likely to strike and bite you. Additionally, advice I received here about herp care was exceptionally bad, as I was recommended to feed my pinkie-eating baby gopher crickets, and another store employee recommended cedar shavings as substrate. In case you were unaware, CEDAR IS DANGEROUS TO SNAKES (and to many other small animals). I should note that when I was there, none of their reptiles were being housed in cedar, so I have no clue why they'd try to recommend this to me. TL;DR, basically pet Walmart. If you can, shop somewhere else, support local business. If you just want cheap easy and quick, and know what you're doing with your animals already, then sure, I occasionally go here, but usually as somewhat of a last resort. (I'd give PetSmart 3 stars, but their reptile care drops it to 2 for me) read more
