Dr. Whitman took his time with us and never made us feel rushed, even with all of our questions and concerns. What stood out most was how kind and engaging he was with our daughters, who both dream of becoming veterinarians. He spent time talking with them, answering their questions, and making them feel included. They left absolutely thrilled. This is exactly what you hope to find in a small-town veterinary clinic: personal, professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. Highly recommend them!

The vet showed me the surgical records and the blood work taken when I brought him in and where the medication interactions were, they did all they could but my little dude didn't make it. When I got new pets I brought them to Sierra Vet for their needs. My husky was their next patient and when she had sudden eye issues they got her in right away and provided the best care, she ended up with an enucliation of the right eye. For the past 5 years they have done preventative care on her remaining eye as well as referring her to a specialist. She has beat most odds and kept her eye much longer than most with her condition. Unfortunately she presented eye problems Monday and they got her in asap. They treat her well and even though vets stress her out. She does well with the staff when we have to do a drop off appointment. We take all our pets there now. I fully reccomend them for any of your Vet needs.

When the previous owners retired after over twenty years and closed the business it created a serious issue for us of where to board our dogs when we needed to get out of town and could not bring them along. The initial response was, literally one word, 'yes,' about availability. I responded back to verify the full day price. The one word response, '20.' At that point, I let them know that I was looking for more info, more words and maybe just a more welcoming or at least a more communicative response. Their reply was that they answered my questions and if I asked them more they would tell me. I asked about the low all day price and they said they could charge more but choose to keep it affordable. That's a great thing as long as the time and patience and care for dogs is adequate. I have no indication of any patience, any attention to detail, or any interest in caring for my dog. Anyway, maybe this is a great place. I'm just not comfortable with the bare minimum and poor communications, especially from the start.

I am very disappointed with my experience at Live Oak Veterinary Hospital and would not feel…read morecomfortable recommending this practice based on what happened with my dog Murphy's surgery. We traveled specifically to see Dr. Luce because Murphy had a tumor with suspect cells, and our local vet was unclear on the next steps. During our initial visit, we specifically asked whether Dr. Luce would be performing the recommended surgery, and he confirmed that he would. That was extremely important to us, and he knew it. When we later scheduled the surgery before an upcoming trip, we offered the dates that worked for us. At no point did anyone clearly tell us that choosing one of those dates meant Dr. Luce would not be performing the surgery. Had we been told that, we would have proposed other dates and been flexible. At that time, nothing was more important to us than making sure Murphy's surgery was handled properly. After the surgery, we learned that a different veterinarian had performed the procedure. We had no relationship with that veterinarian, had never met her, and only found out after the fact that Dr. Luce was not involved. For a major surgery involving a tumor with suspect cells, I believe that should have been clearly disclosed before the procedure. What made the situation worse was the response we received afterward. Rather than acknowledging that communication should have been clearer, the response felt dismissive and blamed us for the scheduling. It also included statements we strongly dispute, including the suggestion that our travel plans were more important to us than who performed Murphy's surgery. That is absolutely not how we felt. If we had been told Dr. Luce was unavailable on the proposed dates, we would have adjusted. We also had concerns about the incision closure, including an area with excess skin at one end. In addition, our local vet requested Murphy's records multiple times, and the transfer was very slow. We did eventually receive the records, but not until more than two weeks later. Scheduling issues and miscommunications can happen. What I am most disappointed by is the lack of transparency before the procedure, the poor communication afterward, the delay in records, and the lack of accountability. Based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable recommending this practice.
