Dr. Whitman took his time with us and never made us feel rushed, even with all of our questions and concerns. What stood out most was how kind and engaging he was with our daughters, who both dream of becoming veterinarians. I became a patient at Sierra Vet back in 2018ish. I was previously with another vet in the area - and they failed my dog and caused his kidney failure, this information was provided to me when he was lethargic and I was instructed to take him to Sierra Vet because my vets couldn't get him in. The vet showed me the surgical records and the blood work taken when I brought him in and where the medication interactions were, they did all they could but my little dude didn't make it. When I got new pets I brought them to Sierra Vet for their needs. My husky was their next patient and when she had sudden eye issues they got her in right away and provided the best care, she ended up with an enucliation of the right eye. For the past 5 years they have done preventative care on her remaining eye as well as referring her to a specialist. She has beat most odds and kept her eye much longer than most with her condition. Unfortunately she presented eye problems Monday and they got her in asap. They treat her well and even though vets stress her out. She does well with the staff when we have to do a drop off appointment. We take all our pets there now. I fully reccomend them for any of your Vet needs. read more

My first visit with whitman was very disappointing as he made it clear hates hate hates french bulldogs.I heard he was a good surgery vet so I overlooked that as I needed her cherry eye fixed. I scheduled an appointment for her eye surgery, only as I was very clear on the phone when I made the appointment.I picked her up from surgery and he had her spade at five months. Shocked. He said his assistant read his notes that that we talked about having her spade down the road. His assistant scheduled spay and cherry eye for the surgery. First of all, you don't spay a 5 months old puppy, especially french bulldogs. As any vet should know, there spine is not fully developed until they're first heat. And because of the early spay I'm expecting problems down the road. I can only assume this was done on purpose as he despises the breed and doesn't want anyone to breed french bulldogs.Please do not go to this vet. It's very expensive and rude. After I aired my bad experience, I was told to find another vet, and I'm no longer welcome there. Isn't that funny how you have a problem, instead of the fixing the problem and manning up to it,they kick you to the curb. Two years ago I had an experience where I brought a kitten in that they told me had feline leukemia which was a death sentence and that I should just put her to sleep. I argued for her and said I had a cat years ago who lived almost 23 years with feeling leukemia and no today it wasn't necessarily a death sentence. I took her over to a different vet who tested her and said she did not have it. After almost 30 years of going to this veterinary hospital, even knowing that they charge way too much... I really liked the owner, he cared for many many many of my animals. My cat has a broken tooth, and I am literally too upset to even go into the details of my experience with them today and yesterday. All they care about is money. My cat is in pain and they took x-rays... But I haven't heard anything back. They've only put a Band-Aid on her pain. They say surgery is out for at least two weeks. My cat cannot eat... She has a tooth that is in the way. She's not moving, she can't eat, and it's breaking my heart. For the first time in 30 years, I stand up to this office for my cats rights. I want to see the owner. Yes I'm very upset and it shows through the way I'm speaking... But my Animal is in pain... And they don't seem to care! So what do they do? They drop me as a client after they've seen probably 20 animals in almost 30 years... They've made hundreds of thousands of dollars off of me... And God forbid I stand up for the rights of my poor cat. I have stuck with this facility, knowing that they charge too much much... But I really liked the owner. I asked for a meeting with the owner, and this lady, I don't know who she was... Told me that no... She wasn't going to let me speak with the owner. I will be filing a lawsuit against this facility for no resolution for her presenting problem... my cat that is in obvious pain and cannot eat!! Them falling well below the legal standard of care for my cat. Retaliatory termination and unprofessional conduct for me standing up for the rights of my sick cat. I will also be going to the California veterinary board and filing a complaint. I will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau ... snd, I will be suing for $10,000 in small claims court. If you care about your pet avoid this place. They dont care about your pet, only the bottom line $$$$$. Refused to give me 1 heart worm pill today, as i usually buy monthly, because my dog was due for his annual checkup. They couldn't get him in for 3 weeks ! Twice we brought him home after shots and bloodwork only having to return because of the silver dollar size hematoma on his neck requiring cold compresses, poor thing is a tiny Chihauha. These people are very rough. The girl behind the counter was very rude today and asked to see a Vet and was told they were on there 3 hour lunch. The "manager" came out and fixed nothing, she was also rude. Its not hard to make the leap what kind of treatment your pet will get or the quality of the veterinarians. We dropped Finn off for a few hours one day for vaccinations and when we got him back he was soaked in urine. I called in for an emergency because my dog was lethargic. Over the phone they told me she probably ate weed, kept insisting it even after I told them we didn't have any in the house, then told me they couldn't see her "because we have emergency patients in right now." My dog died not even an hour later. Terrible business that charges almost twice more than the other vets in town and won't let you go in with your pets. They always make me drop them off and try to keep them overnight.. that way I have to pay for fluids and an overnight fee every time? And the one time I was okay with that they can't see her and she dies. Great place to come and get overcharged then ignored! Rest in peace Shasta. read more

I really don't know what to say about Sierra Veterinary Care other than they are some of the greatest people I have ever met. During our 4th of July vacation my service dog broke out in a serious case of hives. Prior to the vet visit I tried everything to get the situation under control. The itching and pain was causing her to cry at times, so I knew it was getting very uncomfortable. At that time we were staying in a campground out past Groveland, which was 45 minutes away. When we arrived at Sierra Veterinary Care they took her in right away. When we returned later to pick her up the hives were gone, and she was ready to go. Another said Animal Control which only had a message machine. The vet in Twain Harte wanted to be greedy and would only do it if I paid an extra $300 to the already high price. Sierra Vet let me come in immediately even though they had never seen my dog and were so kind and compassionate. Every single person there was an angel. I was able to lay next to him and comfort him during the procedure. I was never rushed, not overcharged and was able to exit out the side door. Their kindness was overwhelming. I was skeptical at first because my dog is a raw fed working dog and I was expecting to get my ear chewed off with "spay at 8 weeks and feed nothing but kibble" and boy was I surprised : The vet was open minded and full of information, understanding that my dog is a working dog and totally on board with how I care for her, advised me on the best vaccination course considering her lifestyle, she was gentle and thorough during the exam and my dog loved her instantly. Later after getting home I found out that my friend's dog was diagnosed with a strain of Leptospirosis so I emailed the vet for info, they called me the next morning with a cornucopia of info about various strains of Lepto, which was educational and reassuring. So after dealing with a disturbing number of frankly awful vets, I am happy to report that Sierra Vet is the right one for us They don't treat dog owners like morons and they're knowledgeable enough to be open minded and treat every case individually. My dog is never ever scared or nervous when we go to the vet, anymore, and I always know I can count on them for the right advice and treatment. I find their prices to be fair as well. read more

I used this veterinary shop for our new english bulldog-puppy package with microchip and neuter. They are always busy, they're professional about it, but very short with people. Lines are pretty long, and attention to detail just feels lacking. I was not a huge fan of the place after our initial experience but I wanted to complete my package-I had prepaid. When we completed the puppy package there was a complication with the microchip. Home Again doesn't have anyone working their lines and after a 15 minute hold they send you to a voicemail and cut off the line. I have called multiple days in a row. I have left voicemails multiple days in a row. When I contacted the vet office regarding the microchip registration issue they could care less-their attitude was that I am the issue. I found that unnecessary. I'm just trying to get the microchip registered-something they said they would do and follow up on within 48 hours- they didn't. They told me to call Home Again-again. I did-again. I am familiar with the Home Again website and our bulldog is not showing up-the microchip number provided by the vet is coming up as an unregistered number. As I mentioned, the vet office is not only disinterested, but they were adamant that they can't fix anything from their system-even though they are the responsible party for installing and registering the microchip. They have zero interest in helping me. Lots of time wasted, so I am not a happy customer and I would not recommend them. I would also not recommend Home Again and will be researching another microchip provider. read more

UPDATE: I changed my 3 star review to a 1 star review because when I went in on our last visit, the doctor asked the vet tech to leave the room then pulled out a printed copy of the review below and demanded that I remove the review or find another vet. Wouldnt a more professional response be to address the concerns in the review? Instead they opted for unprofessionalism and bullying tactics. As you can see we opted to find another vet! This place is a joke! Save yourself some time and headaches and do the same. There are plenty of good vets around us that are courteous and professional, that take care of our family, and most importantly value their clients. ************* We started coming here when we lost our dog of 14 years for their cremation services. The staff here are amazing. They made the difficult process as smooth as possible and went above and beyond in so many ways. We enjoyed this place so much that we decided to make this our new veterinarian for our other dogs. The service is still great but at our last appointment we had an experience that really rubbed us the wrong way. Which is why I demoted my star rating. We called ahead and got a quote over the phone for a urinary analysis. We agreed to the price and booked the appointment. We dropped off our dog at their request and received a call that she is ready for pickup. When we arrived we found that the procedure was invoiced for double the amount that was quoted on the phone. When we questioned the difference in price, they responded with, "I'm sorry the person that quoted you that price on the phone is new and she gave you the wrong price." Despite being quoted a different price on the phone they would not honor it. We own a business as well and I too have made mistakes on pricing with a few of my clients, and I ALWAYS take it as a lesson learned and honor the price I gave them even of it meant dipping into my margins a little. I guess I expected the same level of professionalism and felt let down. We won't let this stop us from going here though because the staff and doctors are otherwise great! read more

I called and waited and waited and then was transferred back to the main menu..then I clicked 1 for emergency again and was prompted to leave a message...how is that emergency care?! Also in the prompt was a warning they only serve current patients under emergency circumstances....how does that make any sense...only their current patients are considered worthy of emergency calls? Taylor Veterinary Hospital seems to be the only true emergency veterinary clinic. Call them instead in an emergency. They're further away but they will answer and guide you in the best direction. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. Sierra Veterinary Clinic is responsible for the early death of my dog. Since I most likely won't see justice for the death of my family member, I want to publicly announce that my German Shepard was medically neglected at the hands of a Sierra vet employee. My dog got sick with what I felt like was a cold. He had a runny nose and a cough, followed by not wanting to eat and was lethargic. It was at that time that I brought him in. My appointment was at 4:20. I did not get acknowledged or seen until nearly 5 pm. When the vet finally came to see him I told them everything, played a video of the cough that my dog had, explained my feeding schedule to him and repeated that him refusing to eat was HIGHLY unusual. He responded by blaming me for his lack of appetite bc by a week of no eating, I was doing everything I could to get him to eat. Chicken, rice, table scraps ANYTHING. He listened to my dogs heart for 5 seconds and then told me he had bronchitis. Proscribed me 3 mediations, including one narcotic, and I asked specifically, "How am I supposed to get him to take this medication when he's refusing to eat ANYTHING? He told me again it was my fault he wasn't eating to offer the food once a day for 10 minutes if he doesn't eat then he gets to starve, he also said and I quote "I would just shove it down his throat" which I knew was a bad idea, but by 9 days or so of him not eating and refusing to take the meds I finally opened his mouth for him and put my hand in his mouth to put the pills as far back in his mouth as possible. My hand slipped, and he snapped his mouth shut on my hand in his mouth. I now have 3 puncture wounds in my hand, and I had to report him so that I could receive medical attention. On Monday, I went to check on my pup after deciding that he may be more comfortable in his kennel after i couldn't calm his pacing and found my dog dead. Nothing can bring my baby man back, but everyone should know how they treated my dog, and now he is gone. I want justice, but I'll settle for one person keeping their animal alive. read more

I've handled working dogs including Schutzhund Dogs, A search and rescue dog, 3 police dogs one of which was a drug dog and many family pets. I really loved Sierra vet, but recently it seems a lot has changed. I ended up waiting almost 40 minutes for my scheduled appointment(which to a stressed out cat is absolutely no fun). But I was still grateful to see the vet for the annual visit. However when I was in the exam room I heard staff members gossiping about a client that had just come in(which I found wildly unprofessional). Then the vet came in and told me my cat was obese for a short haired small cat, which he clearly was not, he's a long haired domestic. All of which is stated on the paper work, I got really concerned and asked about putting my cat on a diet before realizing the vet said short haired and that he's actually on the smaller size for a long haired cat. Overall it was not a great experience, I've previously had great experiences with them so I'll wait and see. read more

Ok so I have had awesome experiences with all 3 vets and staff that I have worked with now! Just vaccinations first time and then an eye and paw issue the next! Every time even with the vaccine appointment I received a call from the vet themselves the evening and the next day! Even the vet where we moved from which we where affiliated with for decades never did that....! So we are super happy with them! Yes they are a little pricey but when you care about you patients it makes up for it!! Plus they overly worked with me to get my babies in!! read more

We just moved here and our American Bull dog was really sick. The employee's were very caring and got Max is as soon as possible.
