Backgrounder: we bought a house with a large, fenced yard so that our hunting dog could have the freedom to run and explore to his heart's content because walks were never enough for our registered field dog. So he usually runs around our property without a collar which we only use when we take him out. Today, we couldn't find his collar in our hurry to make it to Discount Pet on Hammer Lane for his heart worm test before VIP Pet closed for the week, so we used what was in sight: a one-piece leash with a loop at the end aka a choke collar just so we could make it on time. Although she knew absolutely nothing about us and our dog, the vet immediately started criticizing us for using such a collar, saying it was "unacceptable" in a very patronizing tone, going on and on, asking if we wanted such a collar around our necks, and even having the temerity to tell my husband he didn't know how to train our dog who is an 8-year-old veteran of multiple, always successful and safe hunting trips that would be impossible without careful training. Despite knowing nothing about our dog's temperament, our relationship with him (he's our baby), or our background as loving dog humans for over 30 years, she was disrespectful, obnoxious and highly presumptuous, putting us off ever using VIP Pet Services again. Through the years, we've spent hundreds of dollars at VIP Pet. I liked the convenience and their staff until today. You can be sure that after this bad experience, I'll be looking for a good neighborhood vet who knows how to treat humans, as well as dogs, humanely and respectfully.

But when it appeared to be growing we decided to look into getting it removed. Our groomer recommended Placerville Animal Surgery for low cost and good results. Results have been fantastic. Our dog was fully recovered immediately after the surgery and hasn't looked back. She is as happy as a new puppy despite being over 8 years old!No problems whatsoever, hair growing back nicely, she runs and jumps and plays as she never did before. The team gave me a two to three hour estimate and advised they would call me when he was ready. They hit the timing dead on at two hours. He was beautiful, as well as nicely trimmed claws, including his dew claw. I could not have asked for better service. Fur Sure is now my pet groomer of choice.

We have a challenging pandemic rescue dog named Ollie and we have not been able to leave him…read moreovernight or travel without him in the last two years due to our concerns about his reactivity and fear-aggression. We've worked with the UC Davis Vet Behavioral School as well as multiple trainers and thankfully, we were referred to Judith at Red Mountain Canine as a trusted, responsible caretaker. My partner and I have put in countless hours of training and it's very important to us that whoever takes care of Ollie minimizes his triggers and respects his limits as to not regress on our progress made. Judith is a god send! We did a meet-and-greet and then boarded our dog with her for 4.5 days. This was the first time both of us were away from him since rescuing him in April 2020. She's incredibly thorough in making sure she has all the necessary care information and is very thoughtful with how she engages with our dog. Our dog is very sensitive and Judith is the perfect match for him. She is patient, communicative, and professional. She gave Ollie his medicine in the morning and evening and helped make progress on his behavior training plan (stranger danger). She also sent us awesome updates and photos during our trip. You can tell she really cares about her clients :) We are really thankful to be able to work with Judith and she gives Ollie the time and attention he needs to be successful. She even builds on the work we do at home with him! We look forward to using Red Mountain for the rest of our boarding needs.

We have such…read morea challenging dog (she's extremely fear-reactive towards all other dogs and she's not a huge fan of people), and Judith does such an amazing job keeping our dog safe and comfortable in spite of all the dog's behavioral issues. We 100% trust her and would recommend this facility to anyone--our dog is HARD, so I have so much faith in Judith. And look, doggo even got lotsa good mountain sniffs in!
