My dog went for grooming at PetSmart on July 17, 2025. He was mutilated, cut up and abused at PetSmart. The razor they used to groom my dog severely cut his skin, and mutilated him all over his body. This was Not grooming , but dog abuse, recklessness, and physical harm to my dog. He had to be treated by his veterinarian for cuts, bruises, deep abrasions, and MUTILATION, all over his body. He also had to be put on antibiotics to avoid any infections from All his wounds. I do Not recommend anyone to take their dog to PetSmart for any type of grooming or Care. PetSmart Hotel just started a new policy of leaving the pets at night alone after 10pm. You're paying the same money for your dog NOT to have a person on site to monitor the animals. The associate tried to assure me it'd be okay but when I dropped off my dog at 5pm and asked where she was placed- I was told- her suite- and her next opportunity to come out would be around 7:30pm- until the following morning- when someone came in at 6am. I found that unacceptable- and found someone else. PetSmart- you need to get it together and bring back someone to work nights. Cameras and sensors aren't good enough. As a PAYING customer I want someone there- on site, to address my pets needs, should something come up. Just because another company does it this way- doesn't mean you should follow suit. This is my 2nd time leaving my dog at the pet hotel here & I can you tell you, it's my last! He was set for a 4 night stay as I was away on vacation but unfortunately had to pick him up on the 3rd day. They called saying he wasn't feeling well & they'll take him to hospital if his symptoms continue (diarrhea, vomit). Of course Im coming to get my dog, vacay cut short & all! It's the 4th of July so they were closing early & if I didn't get there by 6 I wouldnt be able to pick him up at all. First red flag. So I rush home luckily about a 5 hour drive & make it in time. They bring out my dog and his visibly distressed. Shaking, overstimulated & pulling me outside to relieve himself. His balls also looked a bit raw, not as bad as the first time we left him there. The first time I picked him up from this location his balls were red swollen with open sores! They said he wasn't sleeping in the bed provided and the cold floor irritated his skin. Anyway, we pay for the visit (which they did give us a discount) and go home. He's so relieved we're home, so I buy easily chop it up to seperation anxiety but that's not it in this situation. We clean him up. It looked like just dirt on his paws but was actually poop. Hmm? Red flag. But he knocks out for the rest of the night, I'm confused. So after reading the reviews I learn that this stores policy is apparently to leave the dogs overnight with no supervision no one on the property to watch them. So once the staff close up he's probably in his room all night holding it until he can't anymore. And I thought it was weird I was told I wouldn't be able to pick my dog up after 6. The dogs are just sitting there with no one there in case of emergency or maybe have to go out for bathroom. It's a hotel. I should be able to pick my dog up anytime. Anyway. I just don't think they're really looking after the dogs well, taking the time to actually walk them, & paying attention to the cues the dogs are giving. Messing up my dogs digestion doing the bare minimum. I want to leave my dog with people who are knowledgeable and caring to each dogs individual needs. He needs to be coming back to me better than I left him. Everytime I get him back from this petsmart he's seems neglected and traumatized. I want a PetSmart today to have my grandpa who's visiting for a few days groomed. I selected a groomer based on the list and the time that was available brought MAYA to 10 AM and receive the email at 2:05 that she was ready for pick up. At approximately 245 when I arrive to pick up Maia, I paid for her I tipped for her service generously, and as she proceeded to exit, I noticed she didn't look completely groomed- the areas around her feet still look like she was wearing shoes. Her ears were still covered in fur, and when I pointed it out, the person who handle my intake, who was lovely mentioned that the groomer said Maya was nippy. I was puzzled by this - Maya is under 6 pounds and she is a very small Chi poo - I expect some dogs to be nippy when they're being groomed not all dogs enjoy this process - which is why you're the groomer you're trained to handle nippy dogs. I will say the lovely person who I will call. Joshua is the best person who should groom your dog. I will also recommend Gina and Loren at this location, based on my observation of their work today, and their interaction with customers but other than that you're taking chances. I brought my mini schnauzer in to be groomed by Lorie S. It was clearly mentioned on the appointment that it was a puppy under 5 months, I would think you would know as a groomer that this would be one of his early grooming sessions but she asked no questions beforehand. When I brought him in is explained I would like him cut down but not too low due to the weather. She looked at him and rudely said "what is this?" "I don't know what the last person did but this isn't a schnauzer cut". I've been growing my puppies fur so he can have a fuller coat and this would have been his first major cut with no tangles and perfect fur. I showed her the schnauzer cut I would like and she rudely mentioned how it wasn't a schnauzer cut as if there is only ONE existing way to cut the is kind of dog. It seemed she only knows her own way on how she would like to cut them and is ignorant to the fact that these types of dogs don't all look the same. My puppy has more of a rounded face so we have always help his beard rounded she instead horribly cut his beard into an odd shape and completely cut off his eyebrows. If she truly knew the schnauzer cut, the eyebrows are a staple part of their cuts and are meant to be longer, she completely missed the mark. She clearly was in a rush and didn't care to be patient and work with my puppy and wasted my time and money on this lousy job. Previous groomers I have worked with have asked me questions on preferences on his cut and have made suggestions on what would look best, as a true groomer should. If she just cuts dog hair off with no art that should be advertised. His cut is rugged, sloppy and he looks honestly worse then he did with his fur grown out. I wanted to take Christmas pictures of him for his first Christmas and she ruined that. Her attitude was poor, customer service 0/10. When I started to explain how I would like him cut she cut me off and said "I don't know what she's saying" and asked another worker to come figure it out. I barely said two words lol. She called me after I left and said "yea I'm not cutting your dog, he's difficult" and that she's headed out for the day if I don't see her the bill will be at the register and that I need to go back to the groomer I originally had. I'm visiting from out of state and that wasn't an portion but the original GROOMER, a true one was patient and caring and gave completely different feedback for a 4 month old puppy. She clearly was in a rush and had no time to do the job correctly which she should of mentioned. She said after I wasted my money on how I need to bring him early in the morning when it's not busy, yet you saw his age before the day of the appointment, even saying Aw a 5 month old puppy. A responsible groomer would inquire on whether this was his first groom or not and suggest a new appointment time based on that. Rudest and worst interaction I've ever experienced. Did I mention I had an appointment? while waiting for the groomer to arrive the groomers that we're taking other dogs spoke among themselves that someone may do a no call no show she may not show up for her shift pretty much all while I waited after a while I noticed that they were speaking of the young lady that was supposed to be doing my dog bath. There was no great customer service. No one tried to go above me onto Assist even knowing that I came out to an appointment. No one even tried to rebook I waited in the car 30 minutes to see if they will call me. I really like this PetSmart. I come here a lot. They always have a good selection of dog food, treats and toys. I can always find a good present for my dog. Last time I was here though, there was a really aggressive dog near the front - and I'm really surprised the staff didn't do something about it. My dog is really well behaved, and I don't like him being around other dogs that are too intense. I definitely love this store - and I'll be back again soon. The staff is always friendly and helpful. One time I was here they didn't carry the food my dog (American Cocker Spaniel) normally eats, and the sales associate went over all of the foods they had in stock and recommended a good substitute that my dog loved. Since I got my little frenchie milo all we've been doing is spoiling him to the max, The pet smart here is fabulous I absolutely love it, (better then the rest) they have a doggy hotel which is a great price for a week stay, they have doggy grooming doggy hospital all there inside this location. They offer great discounts as well. Today my husband and I went to get my baby first bath and they did such an awesome job, my dog smells fantastic they were friendly and super helpful thanks sade and the rest of the girl there for the helpful tips. The customer service here has sunken to a new low, to the point where I needed to write this review. Since when has a conveyor belt customer service mentality been put into place? There was one associate running TWO registers at the same time! Do not take your dog to this daycare! We took our 1yr old dog here for one day and he came home with a huge gash on his leg, and cuts on his face and throat. My dog has gone to daycare for 3-4 days a week for a YEAR in Queens and this has NEVER happened. Then when we confronted them about it, they ignore our calls and it was only when we went into the store demanding to get answers, they continued to ignore us and refused to show us any footage. Finally after waiting hours they confirmed there was an incident but again no apology or details. They then insisted that our dog plays rough. Unfortunately when it comes to the vet. This is the worst place. The doctor seemed more interested in talking about pricing instead of treatment for my dog. For two visits I spent $475 and no medication were given. In fact just one test and the best part on the doctor reports it says what they found in his ears but refuse to give him medication. All they said. Come back in two weeks for therapy and this is how much it will cost you .... I mean really. How about just giving my baby his medication since you know what he has. Important disclaimer: I must preface this with the fact that I did not have my dog personally groomed by Nelson, but observed this specific incident when picking up my dog from being groomed. Beware of Nelson! A few weeks ago, when picking up my dog @ this location from getting groomed I noticed Nelson was grooming a small, grayish dog near the front. He was wearing a black mask over his nose and mouth (I guess he was sick? Overheard his coworkers talking about him "not feeling well" when I dropped off my dog earlier that morning). The dog Nelson was grooming was squealing when Nelson was shaving him/her. He was saying things like "you're okay" and "I'm not hurting you", but in a tone that sounded very disingenuous and with insincere kindness - most likely because customers were around. (At least this is the way I interpreted it, based on this observation and others.) As I looked around in horror, I noticed his coworkers nervously look at him and around the room to everyone else. I proceeded to step out of the grooming salon, pay my grooming bill and came back to get my pup. When I got back the small dog Nelson was grooming was literally shaking on the table. I felt horrible and regret not saying anything. I felt the need to write this review because every single time I've walked into the grooming salon and Nelson is around, he seems to be talking down to either the client (pet), the owner, or one of his coworkers. His demeanor seems to be very off, especially with the fact that he works with animals, a vulnerable population. I wanted to ensure I shared this information with others. I am completely aware that I have NOT had my pup groomed by Nelson and therefore do not have personal experience dealing with Nelson, but I have observed several times - the times I have been here. I'm hopeful this helps someone and that we are all paying attention to our pets physically and emotionally before + after getting groomed. Well here my review. My last location was closed 117st Manhattan so I made grooming apt with Angela H. She was great introducing herself updating my dogs records and follow everything I mention about my furry family during this Covid 19. In the end my dogs looks great from head to toe. Air circulation ventilation very very poor seriously needed at this location. It's much needed for this COVID-19 for the animals plus the groomers/workers. Only putting 1 star, because I can't put zero. Went on vacation and left my dog at the pet hotel for a week. Gave them the specific food she has to eat with the measurements and all. While I call to check in on her they tell me she had diarrhea throughout her stay. They said it was colitis and that it was from stress. Being that it was her first time alone and she's never away from us, we understood. They told me she was shy and timid when playing with other dogs. That is not her personality whatsoever. We knew she wasn't feeling all to well. I had a family member go in and check on her and the fur on her butt WAS COVERED IN DIARRHEA. She looked completely neglected! Went to pick her up. The tray of food that we gave her (that usually last 3 weeks at home if you follow the correct measurements) was COMPLETELY GONE. She was really drowsy and still had diarrhea at home. She didn't want to eat or drink any water. We called pet hotel to ask if they did anything differently with her food and we just got rude and snotty remarks. A day later she pooped an excessive amount of blood. We are not sure what is wrong with her, but she is most definitely not ok. Now she is in the hospital till further notice. read more

This PetSmart is horrible! I brought my 10 month old English Bulldog to this location on 2/14/19 for a grooming and he died while in their care. Apparently his breathing became labored during his grooming because they used a dryer on him (which they shouldn't have) and because they have inexperienced groomers, they didn't recognize the fact that my puppy's breathing was compromised. He basically suffocated and they do not want to accept responsibility nor did I ever receive a formal apology. They have refused to show me the camera footage as well. They have been very nasty and brushed me off. Through research and other customer's experience, I discovered that over 50 dogs have recently died during their grooming at various PetSmart locations & half of the deaths were English Bulldogs. Obviously, they're not equipped to give services to our pets. I really don't want this to happen to any other pet parents. Please BEWARE! read more

When I first adopted my puppy and she had to be kenneled overnight, I was pleased to find the PetSmart doggie hotel on Pelham Parkway. She had a great experience and they had no issues with grinding her nails. My puppy is 5-6 months old. Fast forward a month later I noticed her nails getting longer so I brought my puppy to PetSmart for a nail grind. I left her at the grooming station and started walking around the store gathering treats and toys. 5 minutes later I received a phone call saying that they were refusing service to my puppy because she was getting too crazy on the table. Confused, I walked back into the grooming station. I explained how she had her nails trimmed by the doggie hotel a month ago and there were no issues. I asked her to try again and was in disbelief. The employee tried again and she refused service. I said how I was confused and said the doggie hotel employees grinded her nails without an issue. The grooming employee said "so you should go over there maybe they have the magic touch." In my head, I am thinking, if you are having issues with a 30 pound puppy, how can you properly service full size dogs. Even more confused I walked over the doggie hotel and explained the situation, how my puppy's nails were grinded without an issue a month ago and now all of a sudden there's an issue. She told me it's a different process, they grind the nails more calmly instead of putting them on a table and strapping them in 2 different places. I asked her to grind my puppy's nails and she said unfortunately I would have to check her into the hotel for them to do that at an additional cost of 37 dollars. Seriously ? So in order for them to grind my dogs nails I would have to spend 50 dollars ? I looked at the employee and said so let me get this straight. Your saying you can do the service, as you have in the past, but at a cost of 50 dollars instead of 15 dollars as advertised. She said it's company policy, and did not even offer to call a manger over to discuss the issue. Annoyed and angry, I left all the treats and toys I was going to purchase at the front. I looked on my phone and found the nearest dog grooming place DOGMOM Petcare and Grooming in Yonkers. I called them right away and explained to them what happened at PetSmart. She told me to bring my puppy in right away and she would be able to handle it. Sure enough I did. And what an amazing job she did. She was able to trim and grind her nails in 5 minutes with no incident, and even had toys for my puppy to play with. I am so lucky to have found her. How is it that everyone else could grind my puppies nails except for the grooming section at PetSmart? I will never, ever return to PetSmart or a PetSmart hotel. This was the first time I've had Buddy groomed. When I made the appointment I wasn't too happy with the way the conversation went but on the day that I took my boy to get groomed, there was a different group of people there and the conversation flowed well. I had all my questions answered and felt comfortable leaving him to have his services done. He came back looking great and happy. I was happy with the job done especially the deshedding since I am allergic. I will be using this service again and hope that the same people are there for the intake of information. The one thing I wish they were able to do is communicate electronically with pet health facilities for the necessary paperwork on immunizatoons. Luckily Buddys Vet is at Banfield that is located in the same facility so it was just a quick walk to the back of the store and back to the Groomers. I don't know who tended to Buddy, but thank you for a job well done. Date of service 7/1/17 2:30pm. I'm very upset about this experience, I brought my yorkie in for a haircut and I received a dog that looks like a weasel .. When I called in I asked for the groomer that I had last time and was told she no longer worked there so then I was recommended lyjah.. So when I walked in at 7 am I specified that I didn't want her to touch his nose and just to trim his face a little, but she cut his nose and the hair around his face so short it looks absolutely ridiculous from 3-4 inches he doesn't have 1/2 left on his face .. I'm very upset and I was offered a percentage off the next time, what is the point of that ? When I called she proceeded to tell me that she didn't use the machine on his nose, and just took a little off his face ... I will not be returning to have him butchered again. I just picked up my 14 year old labrador (whom I had adopted at the age of 10) from PetSmart Pelham location and had the worst experience in the 3-4 years I have been using their hotel service (mostly in CA which had been excellent at multiple sites). They ended up informing me that my dog would require 24 hour veterinarian services (which was not confirmed by a vet and also not needed from my own vet), and they would be unable to take him in the future. My dog has natural issues such as arthritis and incontinence, but his blood work is excellent and is in good health and spirits. I asked for documentation (pet polices for who they take in and why) which is generally needed to prevent discriminatory actions (to the pet as well as the pet parent). The assistant manger "Jessica" informed me that they were not allowed to print the documentation nor share it and if any employee does so they would be terminated. I then asked if I could have in writing or take a video of the fact that they are not allowed to share any policies for evidence (recording/video/email/phone) to which she adamantly refused (made me feel that she was making this up?). I pointed out that NY was one party consent at which point Jessica said I was absolutely wrong (http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/new-york-recording-law, seems like this was blatantly a lie). I was pretty insistent as I have had similar information given to me before. I then looked up online and I could find ethics and other policy documents online to which Jessica claimed were the "Boarding Agreement" (which they were not). This does not include the condition of my dog who was still wet from a wash given. In the end, I am unclear if it was just discrimination against my dogs age or against me. I would recommend anyone looking for professionalism from the management to look elsewhere. p.s. Please note that for the 3 years before taking my dog to this location, other PetSmart locations have been excellent with the management being very professional. read more

If I could give ZERO Stars I would. We have been taking our dog to day camp and many sleep overs over the past five+ years and the staff/team could not have been more wonderful. About 6 months ago a new manager took over the day care, Taylor Diaz and she is a nightmare. There was a mass exodus of staff. 90% of the wonderful people that worked there are gone and now the people that do work there are terribly understaffed, undertrained and miserable. It has been an awful experience. I don't understand why they did not promote from within the team that was working there. This is what happens when you bring an outsider in that does not fit the culture. Taylor Diaz is a nasty, nasty woman who has no business being in a customer facing position or training/managing employees... I am so sorry that we now have to find someplace else to go. I give this store 5 stars. The staff was so helpful. I took the manager aside and thanked her for having such a great store. If I could I would adopt one of the cats in their adoption center but I already have two! Please adopt here if you are Looking for a pet!!! I loved that one of the employees was taking care of the pets up for adoption! She was giving them a little kiss before she would move them to clean the cage. The folks here love animals and it's just awesome. Highly recommended. Great customer service. read more

The lines are too long for the few people working here to be so slow. Customer service is seriously lacking and it's definitely not the only pet store in the area so I don't understand the lack of concern with attending to the needs of the customer. Not a very friendly place and takes too long to get any help. Checkout is arduous at best. read more
