Staff and nurses, all wonderful. The current Veterinarian, does not have a clue. Gave thyroid disorder diagnosis or 3 variations of thyroid issues. All based off low normal blood results. "Low normal" And that was the cause for regurgitation of my french bulldog. Fast forward my dog has classic Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) and has blockage so much so, his oxygen levels are 98%. So in addition to $1600 bill to receive 3 thyroid disorders as diagnoses , not anatomical! Now we have surgery with a new vet. To hopefully let him eat and breathe without struggling Be careful, these are pets that we love. I wouldn't utilize this Veternarian. I paid for my cat to be spayed/neutered in October 2024, and now it's December 18, 2024, but they still can't give me a date for the surgery. They don't even answer the phone. The pre-surgery bloodwork was supposed to cost $200-$300, but I was charged $600 and haven't even gotten my money back. This is completely unacceptable. read more

I brought my 16 year-old cat because he could barely walk. I was offered very expensive services and they told me that he had fleas. They just put him on the table and took his temperature which was normal. They didn't try to see him walk or falling over. Instead, they wanted to just put him back into the carrier because they told me he had fleas. So they gave me a dose. I just brought him home and he can't even get up. This is the worst vet I've ever gone to. I paid for a consult and they wouldn't not even try to see him walk/falling over. They basically just took his weight and put a flea dose on his back. she didn't even try to look in his mouth or try to touch his belly to see if it was tender or not. She just wanted us out the door because he had fleas according to her.. It was a very upsetting experience . My cat is worse and I don't have a lot of money so when I went there, I was hoping that they could help him, but this was a joke. I am incredibly upset and angry. read more

I've been taking my cats here for years and recently came across 3 kittens that I also took here. Everyone is really nice and friendly. They take the time to talk to you and are open to any questions you might have. You can tell that they love all the animals that go there. Literally, I have been going to Yonkers Animal Hospital for over thirty years. Dr. Howell was a caring and knowledgeable doctor who provided all my dogs with the best service that can be provided. I find the new owners have turned his practice into a money grabbing enterprise. My first encounter with them centered around vaccinations for a new puppy. My first visit included an $89 wellness charge which I understood to be needed since it was his first visit with this dog to a vet. I had to come back for a booster a couple of weeks later. At that visit, I informed the vet tech that I was here for a shot and I did not or want a wellness check to be done. Sure enough they charged me for the wellness check despite my instructions otherwise! When I challenged this charge, their explanation was that it was company's policy that all visits no matter the reason for the visit require this wellness charge. I told them that any company policy especially one that centers around fees must be disclosed in advance either in writing or verbally. When I first told them that I did not want a wellness check to be done it was a perfect time to disclose company policy. Another problematic aspect of this wellness charge is the fact that the owner of the dog or cat is not allowed in the examination room during the examination. It is hard to verify what was done or not done during this supposed examination. It appears like this $89 fee is a minimum threshold to be paid no matter what the nature of the visit. read more

Allow me to be very clear about my experience at Yonkers Animal Hospital....its a COMPLETE DISASTER. I scheduled my appointment the day before for 4pm today. Long story short- they had no appointment in their calendar for me after I was confirmed the day before. The only option was that they could charge me an EMERGENCY fee of $215 to fit me in. I asked how long I would have to wait for them to see my dog with the 'emergency fee'. They said they could see me immediately. Being that I had already taken off work I decided to proceed. TWENTY MINUTES LATER they STILL hadn't seen me or my dog AFTER I agreed to the 'emergency fee' because THEY lost the reservation. I simply left. It should also be noted the place is a complete dump. Great experience for the first time at this vet. We were looking for a Vet close to home where we could take Spartacus today we just came in for some shots and left knowing we have a great vet for the future. The office is very relaxed workers couldn't be more loving with him. Parking lot is a little small especially when there are people that don't know how to park. But overall experience was incredible ! So one year later... Wow ! This is our go-to place when Spartacus needs anything... ANYTHING ! the docs there are just exemplary and so knowledgeable. Took Spartacus there two days ago because he wasn't feeling good. Very next day he was right back to himself it's incredible the drastic change ! They have real healing hands. I was able to get an appointment quickly which was great, but the vet was super dismissive of my concerns. A nurse/assistant also had to come to the waiting room 3 times to ask a doctor to come in the back to address an emergency where a dog was having trouble breathing. 5 minutes later woman wailed "OH NO MY BABY" and started sobbing back there. I recently moved to Yonkers from another state and was looking to establish care with a local vet for my 3 year old kitty. Making an appointment at this place was easy using their website. The day of the appointment came and I noticed several things which will make me come back: 1) Dr Givens came out to introduce himself to me before taking my kitty inside for her wellness exam and vaccines. I was struck by this gesture because actually very few vets or doctors have started out by simply introducing themselves to me in the past! 2) He explained to me exactly what he was going to do to for my angel during the visit 3) He brought her out to me in about 15-20 minutes and explained exactly which vaccines she received and when she will need to return for boosters. I called yesterday and got an appointment on the same day. I brought my dog for a wound on his paw. The vet was extremely professional. She took his vitals, checked his history, treated the wound and carefully explained how I should continue treatment for the next week. Nino was excellent with my dog (90 lbs) friendly and professional, as was the office staff. This is how not to treat perspective clients. I am the new parent of a 16 week old Sphynx (Cleo) that suffered a respiratory infection and conjunctivitis and was seen by ASC last Sunday. I was given specific instructions to follow up with my vet (I didn't have one at the time). After speaking with people and googling nearly a week ago I scheduled a 9:00 am appt for today. I did this through the portal which also asked for all the information I had to once again provide in person today. 1. I took time off from work 2. I drove 30 minutes to the office from the Bronx 3. I started calling the office upon arrival at 8:45 ish. The phone was finally answered at 9:07 and I was told to come to the window and fill out paperwork. I advised the young lady at that time that I had a 9:00 am appt. I was the first person to arrive and several more people arrived after me. I asked if my appointment would be honored and her response to me was that no one but her were there yet. The Dr. hadn't arrived yet. 4. I watched dogs (tails wagging) walk and trot around the parking lot before returning to the warmth of their vehicles. 5. 9:30 am the Dr. comes out and carries the first dog (the one I witnessed clearly not in distress) from the car to the office. A female comes out and takes in another dog. 6. I call 3x to ask what was going on but the phone is once again unattended. My cat cried the entire trip to the office and the entire 45 minutes I sat waiting in the parking lot WITH NO COMMUNICATION whatsoever. I left. Upon arriving home 30 minutes later the office called and said they were ready for Cleo and could I bring her to the door? 10:00 for a 9:00 am appointment that they weren't even in the building for? They have no respect for your time. You can come out to the cars to retrieve dogs but I should bring my cat to the door? Disgraceful and I would NEVER recommend this facility to anyone. read more

I left this practice a few years ago and decided to try again. The wait times were insane and hours very minimal. Went back again last week then required just a shot today. I called and spoke to Cindy with questions last Friday. She never returned my call Spoke to doctor on the phone said to come at 5 30 we got there a little early. Staff was talking about us to each other. Can you possibly get more unprofessional? A male said he was putting us last cause we were an hour and a half late meanwhile we we were early. Doctor told us a different time than he told his staff. We finally just walked out Goodbye for good. Yonkers Animal Hospital has been taken over by a corporation that cares about nothing but the $$$. I was a client for over 30 years when Dr. Howell and Dr. Gavin were there. Both amazing vets! I had a horrible experience in Dec 23rd when I had a wellness appointment. It was 26 degrees in Yonkers with a real feel of 8. I was told to wait outside to be called in. After 45 minutes in my car I called them and said I could not wait anymore. They then offered to let me into the office. I stayed it is the day before Christmas Eve, I cannot wait any longer. I was told by the office manager that they had 2 emergencies and were running behind. I then said well if we are 15 minutes late you charge us and cancel the appointment. She stated well we aren't cancelling. I asked if I came in how long would I need to wait? She said 15 to 30 minutes. I expressed I could not wait that long and questioned their professionalism. At that point I was told, and I quote, "Now there is no room inside so continue waiting I. Your car and if you cancel you will lose the $75 hold we have on your card. I stated that was unacceptable and I was going to not accept that. She hung up the phone and sent me an email at 5:12 for my 4:30 appointment that I cancelled and forfeited my deposit. This office is so unprofessional, cares only about the mighty$ and will never do right by your pet. Steer clear! So the response given was that you came to get me after 17 minutes which is a complete lie. My appointment was for 4:30 and at 5:12 I was denied entrance to the practice and told to continue waiting on my car for what could be an additional 30 minutes. The fact that they blatantly lied in their response is why this place is unethical. Who can trust their pets to this sort of practice? read more

I've been going here for about a year or two. But no more. Apparently there's been some turnover, and they no longer do Saturday appointments, according to whoever I spoke to on the phone. My cat has prescription food that needs a refill. The next available appointment is January. He's going to run out of food in the interim. So I make a request to have them review my cat's file and renew his prescription. The woman on the phone says no. I ask, what is my cat supposed to eat? Her response, "I'm not a doctor, I don't know." So, this place has receptionists denying prescription refills. And she also refused to put my request up to the vet, even though I'd be seeing the vet in early January anyway. Terrible customer service. You need people who know how to think. I got an appointment elsewhere and won't be back. Also, this place now requires $75 prepayments (made when booking your appointment). That's a new policy - that tells me they're losing cash flow. Your poor customer service isn't doing you any favors on that front. Also, there are no in-house vets at this place anymore - they have a revolving staff of vets now. Our friends recommended the Yonkers Animal Hospital to us and we love it! The facility itself is pretty old, so if you are looking for a fancy vet this won't be it. However, the customer service and the value for money convinced us. The ladies at the front desk are super nice and accommodating. Our dog was seen by Dr. Sylvia Singletary and she was wonderful. She answered all our questions and was great with our dog. We were not overcharged for unnecessary vaccines or services. Update on April 14th: As yelp just sent me an e mail indicating me that my review was not providing enough details on my customer experience, here you go: I was charged $3,500 for 2 nights for a cat that had urinary bloquage. And of course they wanted to keep him a 3rd night for another thousand something dollars. When we went to pick up the cat, the doctor (that i had in the phone 15 minutes earlier had left despite the fact that she indicated that she would be waiting). Have you ever compared prices on a sweater? Or groceries and that awful feeling you get when you realize you paid more, a lot more than your friend? That's how I feel about this place. I recently adopted two kittens and was assured by Yonkers Animal Shelter my first animal check up would be free. And in fairness, it was. What wasn't however was the slew of shots that also came. $250 in fact. I was stunned but a novice pet owner and figured "this must be norm". I was told to come back in 3 weeks for the second round. So I did and I cant begin to type how much I was conned into paying plus collars put on my two pets without permission or prices being discussed. On the side of the hospital I never asked or questioned but they are also very aware I am completely clueless and now I just feel like I unfortunately realize now why people get rid of pets. Sad but true. I feel like I was conned! These are in cahoots with the Yonkers Animal Shelter and they'll be hearing from me about all of this and setting peoples expectations or give better guidance about shots!! Yonkers Animal Hospital refuse to prescribe the insulin this month , it was denied Pet Chewy informed me not even the Animal Hospital . I e - mailed appointment and Brought my Cat to see a doctor Gregg Goldschlager at Yonkers Animal Hospital , This doctor was rude, detached , uncaring , refuse to hear what I had to say , you just don't stop a diabetic their insulin or they will die . As he walked away he yelled out I did not do that , He may not done it personally but this Animal Hospital denied refill . I told Dr, Goldschlager I usually see Dr How , Dr, Goldschlager said well I'm the only full time doctor here and you are going to see me from now on ( talking to me like that was an Order like he was scolding me ) The assistant told me an office manager will talk to me , I asked where is the office manager and the reply was she's eating . I took my cat out of there and I will be going to a different Animal Hospital I will never , ever go back there . For weeks , I had explained to Yonkers Animal Hospital my cat needs his insulin refill they did not show any concern of caring . Let me just say think about this , that doctor talked to me in a abrasive tone , can you imagine how he would treat my cat or your animal . There is no discussions to be made . The stress and the non concern for weeks discussing my Baby needing his insulin was not a concern or a thought on this Animal Hospital's part as a diabetic needing insulin for life and to live . The trauma of bringing baby to see a doctor so I could get insulin and leaving there without insulin was traumatic experience. Staff keep saying we are under new management, well I been going to this Animal Hospital since Baby has been born under Dr. How care . I never received a notice of Under new Management. Dr How is retired but still goes to the Animal Hospital . When I asked for appointment with Doctor How , they said he's booked up . This Animal Hospital did not care if my Baby received his insulin and still doesn't cause if they did they would of called it in to Pet Chewy.com and that's a fact . My review is based solely on the staff answering the phones. I had no issue with the vet and due to COVID wasn't really able to interact with the vet. My puppy was seen at Yonkers Animal beginning in April 2020 for her vaccinations etc. My experience with the staff was great at first. Everyone was very friendly when answering the phones. Lately whenever I call they're curt and unfriendly, they don't seem to want to help in any way. You get put on hold and then hung up on. If this was a one off I could understand but it seems to be the norm now. Given that I was only taking my dog to them for a few months, I've decided to switch to Westchester Animal Hospital which came highly recommended and found the staff there to be very friendly and helpful. I hope office management takes note of this review, customer service goes a long way and some of the staff at this office make you feel like you're bothering them when you call. :( read more

I just moved to Jersey and because I live a bit far away from Yonkers Animal Hospital so I had to find another vet. Unfortunately, they've reminded me of all of the things that people complain about vets and they've made me miss Dr. Givan and Dr. Howell and the quality of care and treatment that my pets have received there. The vets here have always been straightforward, thoughtful (they even sent me a card and both vets called separately to given their condolences when my Siberian Husky passed away) and they don't nickel and dime you. The Jersey vet that I've been seeing barely has time to go over things and we have to pay for everything including what little time you get of the vets and incredibly for medical disposal for the shots that they gave my dog... are you freaking kidding me? Anyways, after a few months of this we've decided as much as a hassle that it may be I'll take the hour drive and pack my two dogs and cat for joint vet visits back at Yonkers Animal Hospital. read more

I take my 6 year old long haired chihuahua to Dr. Howell. Every time we've been there we are treated with courtesy. Yes, the wait times can be long but I believe it is because Dr. Howell will spend the time necessary with you for the care of your pet. If that means a few extra minutes of wait time for everyone, then so be it. He will give you the same attention he was giving the last patient.
