I would give a zero. we lost our house in Helen and had to put our dog in a rover sitters hands. upon pickup, he was covered in some kinda gunk from "perfume" and he stunk Also like poop. We took him here to try and get him washed bc no one else will take him if he smells like this. They tried to tell me he was all matted, but it was just the 1000 lbs of perfume dunking up his hair. I offered to cut them out myself (the imaginary mats) the manager and what I assume was some sort of receptionist Were rude, unhelpful and aggressive. all we needed was some help after a terrible two weeks of homelessness. I wanted to inform you who have dogs that go to grooming salon. Do not bring your dog to Petsmart on Independence Blvd. in Matthews because my dog had kennel cough last October not realizing it was kennel cough at first. Took my dog for grooming there again on January and he has kennel cough again when I took him to vet. We realized he actually had kennel cough last October. I spent $238 for his prescription to treat his cough and antibiotics. It takes him to get better in 4 weeks. I called the manager at the grooming salon about it and she offered for the vet. to pay me back. Still haven't gotten refund yet. I also told the manager that I think that all dogs should be required to have Borellina (sp?) vaccine to prevent kennel cough besides update shots and rabies. My dog always have all update vaccines like parvo, Bordellina, rabies, etc. but still has kennel cough from other dogs. read more

My cat was diagnosed with kidney disease 6 weeks ago and my partner was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer two weeks ago. Needless to say, I'm stressed and in need of some human kindness. Went to Petsmart to buy my cat kidney care food. Did not have a perscription from my vet. Banfield had no interest in helping me. I was sent home empty handed where I created a Chewy account and ordered the food. All I had to do was enter the vet's information. I work at a pet store. I would like to offer some advice, since pointing out these problems alone won't directly improve your store. I don't want to come off as rude, but I genuinely hope that a manager takes this advice to heart. Problem 1: Your employees are not educated about the animals or products that they are selling. This is a broad statement, but all too often have I encountered terrible misinformation at this store. I understand that your pet care pamphlets likely come from corporate, and you've probably instructed your employees to follow the guidelines set by that pamphlet if they don't know about the animal. Unfortunately, too many of your pamphlets are incorrect. That's no fault of your own! However, there is a wealth of reputable information online. I would love it if the employees were encouraged to research the animals they're selling! For example, I might not like hamsters personally, but I know pretty much everything about them in the event that someone needs my assistance. If your employees aren't knowledgeable in a certain field, let them feel free to seek advice from another, instead of giving out incorrect information. A ten gallon tank is okay for an oscar "of this size"? That's insane! Problem 2: Animals aren't properly maintenanced. There is absolutely no reason for your fish tanks to look that disgusting - especially not as often as I've seen. Even if the water quality boasts perfect marks, you must make it a priority to scrub algae from the tanks. How you present your fish matters. If a common customer sees murky water and algae all over the walls, do you think that they will be inclined to buy a fish from you? It gives off the impression that your fish are sickly. I quite like your cichlids, myself, and I come to your store to purchase them sometimes. Too many times have I had to turn away due to this very issue. Your small mammals, birds, and reptiles seem okay for the most part. However, I have noticed that chameleons almost always suffer symptoms of MBD after a couple of months of being in your store, presumably from a lack of proper UVB. When is the last time that you changed the UVB bulb? Just because it turns on doesn't mean that it's going to work well after eight months of constant use. Please allow the UVB's light to penetrate through to the chameleon, and don't block it with glass. If the glass has no holes for the light to directly go through, the effects of the UVB are lost. Problem 3: Don't speak to your customers like they're stupid. I understand that some customers can be quite stubborn. I understand that a mom with her kids might want to put that beautiful angelfish in a three gallon tank, and there's nothing on God's green earth that could convince her of something bigger. But the least you could do is inform her. You can upsell while still empathizing with the customer. "The last betta fish I had lived to be a year old, and I only had him in a (unheated, unfiltered) bowl!" "I understand, but bettas can actually live to be 3-5 years old in captivity. Would you like to consider a ten gallon tank to start? The filter and heater for that size would be inexpensive, and it would give your fish a much longer life. I can also show you the chemicals you need." Don't adamantly push the customer to buy things that they don't really need! Buying decorations for a fish tank is a logical upselling point after the bare necessities, but don't say, "well, your fish is going to be depressed if you don't". That's just condescending, not to mention it could ruin your entire sale. Problem 4: Your employees aren't personal with the customers! This is a huge problem! If a kid says that they have a guinea pig, show your enthusiasm! Ask them about it. Make pet parents feel welcomed to your establishment. While they may not be perfect at all times, they're still your customers. And chances are, most of them want to learn if they're wrong! Instead of an iffy grocery brand like Purina, what do you think about transitioning them to a better food, like Wellness Core? Your dog will thank you. read more

I shop at this location weekly. Normally the cashiers are friendly enough. Not Chick Fil A friendly but good enough. But today, I'd rather have had self checkout. That's what it was like. The cashier never said hello and never asked for my member number. While I was processing my payment, she turned her back to drink her drink and play with her hair. She handed me my receipt and still has not spoke to me. I waited 2-3 seconds and asked... No thank you? She said "I was going to say Thank you ". I just shook my head. This PetSmart was extremely rude to my half deaf friend. We were asked to leave the store after we were told that we're being too loud while in the bathroom. My friend was taking an massive poop, and was in pain and had to let out a gnarly screech. I'm not sure that we will EVER be able to go back to this location. It's very upsetting that people nowadays are snowflakes. The worker actually told my friend to shut the fuck up. And she replied with "my friend is actually half deaf so we have to talk louder for her to hear" and the worker said I don't give a fuck and told us that we need to get the hell out of the store. This is where the Petsmart on Windsor Square moved to, literally almost right across the street. I wasn't a big fan of the staff across the street and some have moved with the location but it seems they got rid of some of the losers. Ha-ha. This new location is super clean, and organized. The only reason for me giving it the lower star is it's sometimes hard to find prices on items. For example there was a small section of clearance leashes with no stickers on the tags, and none of the employees on the floor would use their PDTs to give me the price I had to wait in the line to find out how much they were. I'm really writing this review for the groomer though, I took my pup for her first groom not done by me, and the groomer I had an appointment with was so friendly, and understanding of her being a wee bit frightened. He gave her an amazing cut, exactly how I do it, because he listened to everything I wanted. Prices are based on breed/hair type/ and weight, so for a 30lb Schnauzer/bull terrier mix I paid 45ish dollars not including some add-ons I chose. read more

Grooming service is very poor. I have a 4 month old Toy Poodle and took him 3 times for a puppy trim and shower. Every time got progressively worse. I posted pictures on how he looked after the last one. Their excuse is that my dog, who has always been around kids without a problem, is a biter and too aggressive. So they can't ever trim around his eyes or do his nails. They also didn't trim his rear end. It makes me wonder how nice their team is to the dogs. My poodle couldn't wait to get out of there. Not professional groomers for sure! I've had toy poodles my whole life and never had one come back from a groomer looking the way Sniffy did. We will not be back. My dog gets the best toys! She likes to chew... so finding a toy she won't tear up in seconds is always a challenge. I have never had an issue at this location. Staff is always super friendly and helpful! I am never having trouble finding someone to assist me. I usually know what I'm looking for. But on rare occasions... I need help lol. Checkout is always quick and easy. The store is very well kept. Never messy. Love the cleanliness of a pet store. I get Nutro treats here for my dogs as well as their toys. I have to go somewhere else for dog food because they don't carry what I want my dogs to eat. But thats not a problem! The toys are what's most important to my dogs lol. read more

We recently moved and have the Bandfield pet plan. This location was the closest and more known so we decided we would make this our new home vet. We actually enjoyed this location due to the staff and level of service just as much if not more than the previous on South Blvd. Banfield holds a level of service it seems throughout each location they have, which is a great to know and it comes at a great price. I have never had a bad experience here! Granted that my doggy is a short haired pit mix, and doesn't have any crazy requirements for being groomed, but he always looks and smells amazing when I pick him up! He seems to have formed a bond with Jamie! He loves her so much, and all of the other groomers seem to love him as well. It's fairly priced and they really seem to be caring with the animals. I have a huge tank and was pretty excited - buy 4 get 2 free and I have a planted schooling tank- well employee walked passed me 2x. Did not acknowledge me, moved the ladder in front of me even and just said excuse me. The other was playing with reptiles. Not cleaning. Playing. Didn't even look at me. And the fish. Oh the fish...I so bad for them. This is an okay Petsmart. Employees are cool, Austin and blonde boy with snakes are exceptional make it personable and can keep conversation in spare time. However, one of the managers(? Hope she's not) is less than stellar. She wouldn't do her job, she was in the grooming section the entire time, even when she came out she'd avoid customers like they had the plague. I don't know I just think managers should set a better example than this. That was laughable how much she clearly did NOT want to do her job. It's okay, I guess? Overall, decent store. - I'm really writing this review for my groomer Ava! She is absolutely awesome. I've been to a few different groomers before I decided to take my Pomeranian/Maltese mix to PetSmart. I've heard a few horror stories about PetSmart groomers so when this became the only option close enough for me, I was hesitant at first. My first appointment at PetSmart was with a different groomer and when I got there, he acted like he didn't care much to know about my dog. So on my next appointment I decided to book Ava and oh my, she is just wonderful! She is so friendly and actually took the time to ask questions about my Gustavo. She's always asked if I wanted the same cut or wanted her to do anything different to him. Now that I have moved almost 25mins away, I've still chosen to drive the extra miles to go to Ava. If you are looking for a reliable dog groomer that really cares about your pet, I definitely recommend Ava. read more

I took my yorkie there twice and it was a disappointing experience both times. My yorkie is very well behaved and will just sit there while you are clipping him. When I picked him up from grooming the first time he had two nails that were cut way too short and he was bleeding. They told me that he was sitting still while they were cutting them and that the groomer just went too short. I was very upset and they didn't make me pay, so I swept it under the rug and thought maybe it was a new groomer in training. The second appointment for his grooming he still had hard eye discharge( eye boogers) in both eyes, they didn't cut his ear hair at all, and there was long pieces of hair all over his body. He looked better before I dropped him off there. Needless to say I didn't pay for that appointment either because NOTHING was successful. I am going to a new place and couldn't be happier and neither could my fur baby. read more

A little over a month ago, my family had decided to buy another pet rat. Considering that the one before that had just passed, we decided to try again. Throughout the day, he was fine. Running around the cage, responding to everything normally. After returning home from a trip to the doctors office, and the store, I noticed that he had become very lethargic and unresponsive. My other rat is perfectly fine. A quick call to PetSmart and was told to bring him in to see the vet. Upon getting there, the manager, Jeanne, approached us. She explained that they didn't have any vets at the store. She said that she could take him into the back, but told us that he would be dead by the morning. While putting him in a box to take back, she just threw him around and didn't act like it mattered. We got a refund, but she took him back without us being able to say our farewells. Then quickly began to explain to us that he could have internal bleeding... while I was visibly upset and in tears. The next thing we were told was that rats are not meant to be put together, but it clearly states on the information tag that they are social animals. So she lied to our faces, as the information tag for the rats was in front of us. Not only that, but I know a lot of people with rats who have more than two rats put together. She blamed us, telling us that maybe it was our fault for putting them together. Upon purchase of my first rat, Toast, he was fairly large and is still living. Almost two months ago, he became very antisocial and depressed. So we got another rat to put with him. Having that rat for two-three months, it ended up passing. Not only that, but it was a lot smaller in size. Now having this one for a less amount of time, the same is most-likely to happen as with the other. I know that the proper measures are being made sure to take care of my rats, because if they weren't, the rat that I purchased in September would not be here, or would be sick like the others by now. I make them their own food that consists of dog food, oats, yogurt along with various fruits and vegetables. Their bedding consists of recycled paper and I clean their cage anywhere from three days to a week -- depending on how messy they get with it. I will also bathe them to treat for parasites, or if I notice that they don't groom sufficiently. Personally, I am highly upset with how PetSmart treated us. Especially the manager. I hope that this issue gets resolved with my pet, and that others do not have to suffer like that. The service was ridiculous this time, and that's saying a lot because I love this store. This time, if I could rate zero stars, I would. My advice? You guys need to get someone in the store who cares, and knows about these animals. Someone who actually cares about their job and doesn't just stand there and tell you that your animal will just flat out die while you stand there crying, and is not there just for the pay. Working in a pet store, you need to know how to do your job and treat the animals, as well as customers with quality care. I know that for me, I will no longer be shopping there due to this. I came to this location on October 2nd and it's still bothering ONLY because I've gone to numerous location and got great service but this one made me not buy a ball python from here. I asked if I could take a look at a snake after she watched me starring in the snake tanks I still had to get her attention to help me just for her to say "you can't hold it if you aren't buying", which doesn't make sense because how can you buy a snake WITHOUT holding it. The woman kept walking away while I was talking to her LITERALLY in the middle of me talking, didn't say excuse me or I'll b back she just walked off and I had to go BACK to her when I asked someone else for help bc they said she was in charge of the snakes at the time. I went to two other locations and was OFFERED to hold however many snakes I wanted with no problem. The woman was very bothered about the fact that I wanted to hold one and nonchalant to the fact that I clearly felt some type of way.
