My family and I had an extremely uncomfortable experience at the Largo PetSmart on May 19 around 6:30 PM. We entered the store simply to shop for supplies for our guinea pigs, but from the moment we walked in, one of the cashiers continuously stared at us in an aggressive and hostile manner instead of greeting us or focusing on her job. Even while assisting another customer, she continued watching and glaring at my family from across the store. After feeling repeatedly singled out and uncomfortable, I finally asked if there was a problem. When we later checked out, the cashier called two additional associates to the front, none of whom were wearing visible name tags. The associate ringing us up claimed he "didn't know" the cashier's name, and when I politely asked her directly, she responded with, "I don't have to give you shit." The employee continued making rude comments toward me in front of my 7-year-old daughter, and when I stated I would be reporting the interaction due to her disrespectful behavior, her response was, "Do what you gotta do." I am currently pregnant, and this entire interaction caused unnecessary stress, anger, and discomfort for both myself and my family. We walked into the store peacefully expecting a normal shopping experience and instead were treated with hostility and complete unprofessionalism. This was by far one of the worst customer service experiences I've had, and it genuinely makes me reconsider shopping not only at this location, but at PetSmart overall if this is the standard of behavior being tolerated from employees. read more

This is my closest Petsmart location so I find myself going on Saturday morning/afternoons to pick up fish or fish supplies. The parking lot is always packed, I usually have to park across the street and walking over to the building. (The Petsmart itself isn't that crowded though, so I think most of their spots are being used by visitors of other stores) The aquatics section is very minimally stocked - both in terms of products and fish. Many of their tanks are empty or have very few of the fish that are listed on the tags. Would love to see them have a much more consistent stocking and greater variety. I would assume Saturday is one of their busiest days of the week yet there are very few staff working. On my last two visits I've waited about 5-10 minutes in the aquatics section without seeing a staff member anywhere nearby. I was only helped after asking a cashier to page across the intercom for some service in aquatics. To their credit, I will say that the staff are friendly when you finally do get the help you need. If leaving negative stars were an option, I would. I am extremely disappointment with the grooming services provided by PetSmart, in Upper Marlboro, MD; store #1182. Two days after my dog's first grooming appointment with PetSmart, with no changes in diet or environment, she developed a painful rash diagnosed as bacterial skin infection by her veterinarian. The only new factor was her grooming session at PetSmart. Her veterinarian suggested the source of the infection includes the possibility of bacteria lurking in the collars used on the grooming tables, the shampoo utilized during the grooming session, and/or the grooming utensils themselves. I am beyond displeased with the lack of cleanliness and sanitation standards observed at PetSmart. Not only did this experience result in unnecessary pain and discomfort for my beloved pet, but it also incurred significant veterinary expenses that could have been entirely avoided with proper hygiene practices. Needless to say, I will NEVER utilize PetSmart's grooming services. From this horrific experience to subpar grooming, I implore the Largo PetSmart to take responsibility for the consequences of their negligence by covering the veterinary bills incurred due to this incident. I booked my toy poodle an appointment for a wash and haircut, which they screw up every time, and they cancelled her appointment after I left them a note explaining how she responds to her paws getting touched. I took my 6 month old cavagoldendoodle puppy to be groomed at this location. I had only had him for three days so he wasn't used to pet stores. It was obvious that the prior breeder never groomed him because he smelled terrible. Shannell did an amazing job! She kept my pup happy and safe! He looked so handsome when I picked him up. His fur is so soft and well-trimmed. Shannell gave him a cute little toy and handsome holiday scarf. He's ready for his holiday photos. Plus, they gave us coupons. (GROOMING) I'm so upset with myself for two reasons. First, I always read Yelp reviews. I'm so mad I didn't read the reviews before taking my fur son to this janky establishment. Secondly, the first time I took Milo to get groomed at this store he came back so MAD. He was so upset he didn't even eat his Starbucks Puppuccino after. My poor baby stayed mad all day. I should've known things weren't right. SMH. (To my defense, I just adopted him in January so I'm still learning how to be a good dog mom.) Last Saturday, May 8th I dropped my baby off to get a bath & haircut. He was there for about 5-6 hours. When I picked him up, he seemed excited to see me. I didn't notice anything was wrong. When we got home I immediately saw something was NOT right. I initially thought something was wrong with his leg. He would walk fine for a little, then he would hop as if he was trying to take the pressure off one of his back legs. He would have to take a seat after he took around 15-20 steps. He also kept licking both his leg, butt & was chasing his tail. All of these things were not normal. I called PetSmart and filled out an incident report. Of course, they didn't see any notes that the groomer (Janyce) left on the account. The next day things got worse. His energy levels became low, he lost his appetite, he laid around all day, he barely barked, and when I attempted to take him on a walk, he would have to sit down every 2 mins or so. In addition, I found a tick on him the very next day!!!! A BIG TICK that I know had been feasting on him for a while! And he STILL SMELLS. I believe they gave him a hair cut and didn't bathe him. Of course I took him back to PetSmart and they said nothing happened to him but y'all, my baby is not the same! Then I look up the reviews and see this isn't an isolated incident. I'm not sure what went down, but I know it was something! If you love your dog, I would suggest taking them somewhere else for their grooming needs. NEVER let Imani groom your dog! From start to finish her customer service was poor and I should have trusted my dog's intuition when she did not want to go with her (she's EXTREMELY friendly). I know my baby was matted on her legs and had a few around her face but it did not mean she had to completely shave her. She looks choppy even shaved down. My dog mattes easily and her normal groomer is used to it and has never had to be shaved down. Imani is completely incompetent when it comes to grooming dogs. All of the grooming staff with the exception of maybe two or three of the staff are extremely rude! I just left from getting my dog groomed when another customer came in while I was waiting for them to bring my dog out. He asked what time did the salon close which neither myself or another customer who was there knew, mainly because of their sound of urgency when telling you to come pick up your pet when one of the staff members who was cutting the hair of a dog said "yeah it's not a babysitters!" With a condescending tone. Once she realized how we felt offended by such a rude remark, she then tried to clean it up by mentioning that it was a liability. The only liability that salon has is hiring rude and unprofessional employees, not to mention they could not even remember what type of dog I had! To say I am upset is an understatement. I am LIVID! This is NOT my first experience dealing with their rude customer service but I guarantee you it will be my last! My location's staff is good they are as helpful as most box store staff in our area, no problem there. It's the husbandry of the aquatics that is disgusting. Dead fish that have been snacked on for days, flat water, filmed over tanks, bio sludge build up. The plant section is like looking at leftovers. The Bettas get the worst of it I think. I wish I would've looked up reviews on Yelp first, I am slipping. There were not specific reviews for groomers at Petsmart Largo, MD or any location for that matter, I was just so happy to get my pup groomed. Although the wildlife transformations are cute, I didn't know I was bringing my puppy to be transformed into a Mandrill (you know the primate with the red and blue nose. Grant it, this was our first time, first puppy, first grooming, all of that, so I had no idea what I wanted and told the groomer (Jaleesa) I wanted some of the hair out of her eyes , so a little low on the face and I would leave the grooming to her discretion. She seemed knowledgeable telling me what she would do and how she probably couldn't cut the coat down because she was so young. I got the puppy wash and cut plus the $25 extra pack of conditioning, nail grind, and teeth brushing. The nails still feel very long and sharp and I understand about the nail quick and all of that because I've had guinea pigs who needed their nails cut on a consistent basis. Look like she missed those, skin seems to be still itchy, and I'll admit I didn't check the breath. I was just so surprised by the face cut. Never again, I'll find a groomer who specializes in hair cutting especially with a dog like a double doodle. But for some reason there was a very nasty unkept girl doing all the talking for her. Very nasty, unprofessional and disrespectful. My fur baby Cymba had an appointment on 1/5/2019. He is a nervous doggy and it takes him a while to become comfortable in new situations. Apparently, during his appointment the tech did not/could not get him to relax enough to give him a thorough groom. I understand and I don't blame the tech at all. I called the next morning (1/6/2019) and spoke with the salon manager, Colleen. She told me to bring him back and she would take care of it. When I got him back from Colleen he was my perfect little prince. As I watched from the corner of the store I could tell she was calm, loving, and cared about her job and Cymba was nervous at first but soon after he relaxed enough for her to do her job, thoroughly. I have visited this Petsmart on many occasions to get dog food and new toys for my fur baby Prince. I've never had a problem finding the things that I needed although I feel a lot of stuff at Petsmart is overpriced. This review is mainly on the grooming department. My trip on 10/20/19 was Prince (6lb Yorkie) first grooming experience at the Petsmart grooming in Largo. Prince has had only one specific groomer since he was 10 weeks old but because I was on a crunch for time and needed him cleaned up ASAP I decided to take a leap on faith and schedule an appointment here even after reading ALL the bad reviews for grooming. I schedule an appointment online with Colleen H. for the Bath & Full Hair Cut ($53) PLUS the add on Coconut SPAW ($27) (Prince b-day is in 2 days) for 8am. The grooming area opens at 8am so you would think they would open the doors of the store closer to 8am. That was not the case when we arrived. There was about 5 other people waiting outside with there pets to be let in the store for there appointments. When the store staff finally opened the door it was around 8:10am. We walked to the back to the grooming area and one of the first things I noticed is that "some" of the grooming staff does not take pride in the way they look when they get to work first thing in the morning (I'll leave it at that). Second, it was a little dysfunctional checking in. One of the ladies said they have a new system and was still working out the kinks. Ok I understand that no problem. When Colleen came to check me in, I specifically told her how I wanted Prince body hair to be cut 1 inch off and how I wanted his face to be cut and she reassured me of the other services that I was paying for. She told me that it'll take about 4 hours. After 4 hours I received a called and was told that Prince was ready. We get there and Colleen goes to the back to get us Prince. The first things I always do when I get my baby back from the groomer is check his temperament, I check to see if there are any cuts or bruises and I also check his nails to see if they were cut to far back. On my initial look at him he seemed fine (he wasn't trembling and he was excited to see me). However, I did noticed that his hair cut was off around his face (it was uneven), he still had visible tear stains (which should have been lighten if his face was washed correctly) and the body cut wasn't cut half off like discussed. He did smell good though but I was extremely disappointed with his cut. The service that they said they did was NOT WORTH the $82.00 I paid. I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND paying extra money for there "spaw" services or any cuts besides shaving the dog or light trim. They do not have competent groomers. It's like anyone can get hired there and take petsmart grooming training and give a dog a bath. They don't have people who actually go through external specialize training in dog/cat hair cuts. You might want to go to an independent groomer for specialize services. Yes it'll be more money but you'll definitely get a well trained certified person giving you exactly what you ask for. Another thing....remember I schedule to have Colleen H. perform all the services we discussed but when we arrived we see on the pamphlet they give you letting you know how your dog did there was someone else name Tylar C. who actually performed the services. Colleen didn't mention anything to me when we picked Prince up which is totally unacceptable to me. If I schedule an appointment with someone I expect for that person to perform the service and if something comes up where that person can't do it I should have been notified and asked if I want someone else to perform the service. I didn't even meet this Tylar C. person...so beware. They will do the switcheroo. This place is definitely 2 stars. I will never use there grooming services again and Prince will be going back to his original groomer in VA. read more

I will never EVER be taking my dog to this PetSmart for grooming. Yesterday, I took my 5 year old yorkipoo to get groomed and she came out with a bloody paw because Yvonne (groomer)'a first attempt at "trimming" her nails was entirely too short of a cut for my dog. Any article you'll read about nail trimming for my dog's breed especially, will say to be really careful and to take them to a professional-- which Largo's PetSmart clearly does not have. My dog has been mopey since I picked her up and her paw continues to bleed when I take her for a walk. Yvonne tried to make it seem like Bella is susceptible to this because "she needs to walk on concrete more" -- which is BS because that's all that is around me and that's all she does walk on given that I live in MD and not the prairies. I'll give an update to this when my dog's paw recovers (esp if I end up needing to take her to the vet) but I am not satisfied with how the message of my dog's injury was delivered to me and to add insult to injury, Yvonne wasn't even the person who handed me my dog to talk me through what happened-- I had to ask for someone to actually talk me through how to help my dog heal. Grooming: The staff here is not very good at taking directions. This is the second time that I've left unhappy with my dog's hair cut. If I say, "trim up the face, don't touch the legs, trim up the feet" and you completely shave the face, that's an issue. If you just need your dog's hair cut or shaved off, then you're fine taking it here. If you have a Yorkie or similar breed whose hair is meant to look aesthetically pleasing, I wouldn't risk the months of grow back time by bringing it here. First world problems, I know. When you are finally able to get an employee (trip them) they are friendly. However, I wish that the company would take more time in training the employees in proper pet care. My first fish lived three years which is pretty good for a betta, so I felt that going to the same store would be okay. I purchased two more less than 3 months ago and they are now dead. Since the internet has so many jaded answers regarding fish, I have went to this store to talk to the "fish experts." After asking about a color change in the tail of one, I was given an item to clean out the water and given instructions on what to do. Within minutes after returning them to their habitat, they were gone. Now I am being told that they don't know anything about fish. Even though they claim to be owners. This is the WORST Petsmart i've ever been used and I will not be using them for services again. My dog received a bath there in which, I asked them to grind her nails. The job was poorly done and they only did two paws. She had a bath appointment last Friday. Upon arrival, they tell me the associate who was supposed to give her a bath quit TWO days prior. Not once did I receive a call about this matter. The associate manager rescheduled the appointment and not once did he or any other associate mention that she would need her rabies shot before getting a bath however I just so happened to schedule an appointment for her to get a rabies shot after her bath on 11/9 and Banfield calls me to tell me that the vet that was supposed to give her the shot isn't there. Okay, no problem. I get to the grooming station and after waiting 15 minutes they tell me she can't get a bath because she hasn't had a rabies shot. If I could give this PetSmart a negative 5 starts I WOULD! My puppy has been to this location once prior to this time. The very first time my puppy got a puppy bath and came out perfectly fine. No problems he was nice and clean and okay. THIS TIME. I got to the location and first thing the girl (Imani T.) tells me is that because my puppy looks like a maltipoo and has hair similar to a maltipoo they have to charge me more. Meanwhile my puppy is a Morkie. While I do understand that they do not have a Morkie in the dog system I have never had a problem before when bringing my same dog to the same location. That was my very FIRST problem. SECOND when picking up my dog she called and said that she had a problem getting his face and he was trying to bite her so she could only get but so much. In other words she did NOTHING. I asked for my dog to be cut down and cleaned up. I paid $70 and received my puppy back like the first three photos below. His eyes were untouched, the hair on his body was terribly UNEVEN, he even had a piece of hair hanging from his chin! I ended up having to take him to the PetsSmart in Bowie to fix him up (photos included below). I even asked the groomer at the Bowie location about his behavior and she told me that she had no problems. In fact she even said that he laid down for her. Moral of my story I do NOT recommend taking your puppy to the Largo location. My puppy was so uncomfortable leaving there it was ridiculous. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME! read more

Every time I try to make an appointment this place is totally booked! I find it really hard to believe that EVERY single time you can't get an appointment unless it's a week out. These girls are lazy and don't want to groom your dog. I believe they fill the appointments with fake dogs. Never once have they called and said they have a cancellation and I can bring my dog in. Every time I take my dog there she itches hysterically anyway. They wet her ears so bad she has to go on medicine for an ear infection. It makes no sense. If you love your dog, do not bring them to Petsmart Largo. I have had my dog groomed at pet smart locations for over 5 years, and have never had any issues until taking him here. I live right across the street from here, but it took me over a year and a half to bring him here due to the poor reviews on Yelp. So I would always take him to the Mitchelville location, which is fabulous. But one day, my dog needed to have his nails trimmed (a walk-in service), so I said, what the heck - Surely, they can handle something as simple as that, right? Wrong. I brought him in, and there were two girls inside the grooming salon, both on their cell phones, with clearly nothing productive to do. I told them I needed to have his nailed cut, and one girl replied that the bather had left for the day already, so they would not be able to accommodate this request. I stood there very perplexed for awhile, and begun to get upset. I affirmed that there are 2 of them in here, on cell phones, and no one is able to cut his nails?? She repeated the response about not having a bather closing, who i guess normally does the nail services, adding that they do not get commission on that if they were to do it. At that point, I asked to speak to a manager. She called for one to come, and they called back. She explained the situation, and the manager told her that she could cut the nails. So begrudgingly, that is what she did. On the way out, I asked to see the manager, and expressed my dissatisfaction with the way the girls handled the situation. I also mentioned that perhaps they need to make sure there is a bather working until close, so that the groomers don't feel put in a position to not be making commissions...if money is what it's all about. He agreed, and apologized, and I left. Vowing to not come back again. BUT... I did, months later. I needed to have a last minute full groom, and my choice location was booked for that day, so I decided to try them out for the first time for a haircut. I brought him in, and the girl at the desk checked me in. She felt his ears, and commented that there was some tangling. And let me tell you, the tangling was so mild, it was not at all matted. I said, oh.. well I would have brushed that out if I had seen it.. she was making it a big deal, and it really wasn't. She commented that there was static and all. (Umm, ok.) She continued with the check in. Then, she says that she is going to have to change his breed from 'Maltese mix' in the system to match one of a bigger dog, which would result in a higher charge. Now, mind you... I have been coming to Petsmart locations for many years, and never has anyone tried to do this, and I told her this. She said "well, maybe some people didn't notice. It goes off of the amount of shampoo that has to be used. " I'm sorry, but it's not someone's job to try to police a dog's size to match their breed. He is a Maltese mix, and I'm not going to pay more for you to change him to a different breed that he is not, just because he is a little overweight. I offered to just take him to the Mitchelville location, and she was able to put it back to the correct breed again. Annoyed, I let her proceed with the service. Any time I have ever had him groomed, it takes 4 hrs or less. He's not a large dog at all. At the 4 hr mark, I hadn't heard anything, so I gave them a call. They said they were still working on him, and he was waiting to be dried. What??! I asked what had taken so long, to where he hasn't even had his hair cut yet? She said they get busy on the weekends, and they have many dogs waiting their turn. I mentioned that I had an appointment, so I didn't know that he would be waiting for other dogs. She said that they don't work like that. I had an appointment in DC coming up soon, and since she said it would be at least another 1-1.5 hrs, I had to leave him there, and pick him up later that evening. Not happy. Now, the last and final straw, I took him here again, maybe another couple months later to get nails cut. I mean, cmon, the first time had to be a fluke, right? There were 2 groomers inside cutting 2 other dogs. I told one that I needed to have his nails cut. She said that they were too busy now, and would not be able to do it tonight. I told her that it is a walk in procedure, which takes 5 mins to complete, and they do have over an hour before close. She said that they will have people who can do it tomorrow morning. I was pretty upset that I had come all the way out there for nothing. She said that usually people call before coming. I replied that nail trims are a WALK IN procedure. She shrugged. I left, and again spoke with the supervisor on the way out, expressing that maybe they shouldn't offer walk in services if they are never able to accommodate this. Petsmart Largo has let me down every time I have tried to give them a chance. It is not that hard to have good time management and customer service. I will not return, ever again. read more

The staff working the store are always friendly and very helpful. I prefer to shop here over other local stores nearby. They are easy to locate in the store, and some employees have even offered me samples to take home for my pups to try before making a larger purchase. They are very knowledgeable and if they don't know the answer they will find it for you. I really appreciate the customer service. read more

The sales associates that we have interacted with were SO helpful and nice giving us tips for our new puppy. They also did a price match for us with no problem. This PetSmart is not the ideal place to go to get your dog groomed. They are not professional in their approach to making sure your dog is taken care of. My appointment was canceled and even after I rescheduled, I was not able to get my dog groomed. I will never give this establishment anymore of my money. read more

Grooming: Decided to take my yorkie here for grooming as we also needed to get her prescription food. We get there 30mins (4:30pm instead of 5) early to be told it takes at a minimum 4 hours to groom. The website DOES NOT state that info when booking your reservation nor was it mentioned when i called. I decide to leave her as she needed a grooming and I needed to run errands. I get a call 3.5hrs later stating they need another hour as a dog had to be fixed and there was no one else to groom her. I think the person grooming her was Iman was the groomer, she gets rude with me and argues with me. I find out that in that time they only had time to wash my dog...wth takes almost 4 hours to wash a little 7lb yorkie!?!?!? I ask to speak to a manager and am on hold and decide walking over there from target would bee quicker. I get there and the manager is just walking to the front. I speak with Kerry, the manager and she tells me that's the process but isn't sure what's going on back there. How do you manage a store and not know what's going on?!?!?! Of course I'm getting angrier as I have an 8 month old that is on a bed time schedule and messing with these people at PetSmart, she will not only be out in the night air but also past her bedtime. Kerry tells me there will be no charge for her bath and assures me that she will have the managers from the Oxon Hill store contact me the next day (Sunday). They bring me my dog and as we pay for her dog food she's whining. Now in 2.5 years of having my dog she has only whined 4 times; once because she was a puppy that had to go to the bathroom and the other times were because something was seriously wrong. I don't know or care what they did to my dog but I will never take her back there! Oh and I never got a call from anyone at the Oxon Hill store. Didn't expect it anyway because people are full of b.s. I will not be back to this establishment as my new vet does grooming and sells the prescribed dog food she needs and doesn't need 4hrs or more to groom my dog! read more

This is a smaller store so they have fewer products than most and empty space on the shelves. The staff was nice enough but not too eager to clean up after the animals. Good if all you need is food, not great for accessories. read more

Everyone is very friendly. I love going to Petsmarts because I've always had a great experience with Banfield Pet Hospitals. This location, however, had animal urine all over the floors. I understand that when a customer's animal has an accident, it's his or her responsibility to clean it up, but that means the store needs to hold that person accountable or clean up the mess themselves. It was disgusting. read more

Not only does this store smell like fecal matter, the service in the grooming salon is about the same... poo poo!
