In the past we have taken our dog to get groomed here and normally our dog looks great after. However, that was not the case this time. Our dog saw Brittany and she changed him from a long haired sheltie to look like a German Shepherd. Our dog does not look like our dog anymore. When we spoke to Emma, the supervisor, she was very rude which was disappointing since we have always taken our dogs to Petsmart. We were able to get some of our money back but we will not be taking our dogs to get groomed again at PetSmart in Kentlands. read more

We bring our husky Rico here often and the staff is super friendly and helpfully especially with how difficult it is to get Rico to eat. Rod is super helpful and kind. Really knows what he is talking about. He takes the time to answer your questions. There are 2 other great employees that always help us one is Joy and I forget the other girl's name she has black hair and I think is a manager. Those three employees really treat us like family. You're probably looking at this review and thinking "oh come on...seriously Fenny? You're writing a 5000 character, tl:dr, review about...PETSMART?!?! Isn't that scraping the bottom of the barrel there?" and normally I would be so with you. But hear me out. Twice I've been in a pet related jam...and twice, Petsmart (specifically - *THIS* Petsmart) has helped me out. The first is when my very finicky and disapproving bunny, Spot, needed bunny litter. Yes, he's litter trained and he's very finicky about what he uses as "toilet paper". Of course, he prefers the expensive stuff called "Yesterday's News", which are hard, yet absorbent, pellets made from recycled paper (he's also very green). Well, Yesterday's News makes a version that is bunny specific and of course, Petsmart no longer carries it. Frantically, we wave down a sales associate and he immediately nods and calms us down. Then he marches us down to the cat litter aisle. I start freaking out again, because cat litter has dust - dust that gets into bunny lungs and harden into lumps of clay...but he again nods and calms me down and points to the Yesterdays News for cats. Which is *IDENTICAL* to the version for bunnies (only the pellets are a little longer) - completely odorless and dust free...and over 60% cheaper then the bunny version. OMG WIN! That incident already made me warm and fuzzy towards this Petsmart...but then came the beta fish incident. Now, I've never owned a beta fish and I'm told that they are over-bred to a point where the ones you get in pet stores are insane and lead a very sad and lonely existence. However, in an effort to surprise me, my husband bought me a beta fish this summer (we named in "Notorious F.I.S.H...and there was a large snail called "Tupac Snail", who died under mysterious circumstances...haha). All summer long he was a happy (well, as happy as betas get) little fishie. Then winter set in, and he suddenly stopped eating. He was sluggish as well (we figured that it was from the lack of food). So we headed back to Petsmart and started looking at buying him some different food (figuring that maybe he was bored with his beta pellets). We asked a sales associate what she would recommend, and once she heard our plight, she immediately dragged us to the heater section and made us buy a cheap $14 heater for fish bowls that will automatically keep the bowl at 74degrees. Skeptical, we brought it home, hooked it up...and within hours, our little beta was happily swimming and eating again! YAY for Petsmart and training their employees so well! So helpful and so knowledgeable! Saved us $$$ on our bunny litter (seriously, the old stuff was like $24 and the new stuff is like $14 for twice the amount!), and saved the life of little Notorious F.I.S.H! read more

The most horrific grooming experience for my Chinese Crested Powder puff ever. We are new to the area and have shopped with, and been groomed at, many Petsmarts nationwide. Jessica was our groomer at this location. My dog was burned in some areas, bloody in others, and her poms were completely butchered. I don't know which one of us was more traumatized but I'm never going back. read more

Never again. I recently moved here from Hyattsville and took my black lab yesterday for the first time for a bath and nail trim. We were scheduled to come in at 8am and since I work close by, figured on picking him up within an hour or so. Not so much. When I made the appointment whoever answered the phone never mentioned that he would have to be "registered" first and needed something to confirm his rabies vaccination. Huh? Naturally, I don't have it since that wasn't explained nor did she ask me if it was his first time there. So, I ended up having to call my vet's office and put the receptionist on speaker to confirm the expiration date. 20 minutes later, I am finally out the door. When I didn't get a call by 11:30, I called them and someone else explained that his "check out time" was 1:30pm. Why bring him in at 8am and keep him (a 90 pound lab) in a crate for hours?? And why does it take 6 hours for a bath and nail trim? Nobody explained a check out time either, BTW. When I finally picked him up after 1pm, someone new at the reception desk just handed me an invoice and said go pay at the cash register and come back. Okay. Of course there is a line now and the young lady who was there, went off somewhere with her buds and I had to wait longer to get my dog. I'm usually pretty tolerant and understanding that things happen but the lack of coordination is sorely lacking. My dog looked just fine and was satisfied with the grooming service however, the customer service needs to be addressed there. Goes without saying that I won't be taking my dog there again. read more

The groomers do a good enough job, but it's nowhere near worth it. We went there once a month for a year, but the passed 2 weeks they have called us [literally] 7 times cancelling, rescheduling, rescheduling again, groomer's on vacation, etc. When we asked why they were doing this they said it was because one of the groomers doesn't like doing our dog. Then why not say that 2 weeks ago and assign us someone new? It made no sense and they made it sound like it was MY fault. By the time we got to the bottom of it, our dog needed to be groomed asap so we found somewhere new. We never even got a half-assed apology. I will never bring my dog back here for services. On a recent shopping trip, I thought I'd take the opportunity to get her nails trimmed at their grooming operation. In the past, they have allowed me to stay with my dog and have come out from the back to trim her nails as she is more relaxed this way. This time they insisted on bringing her to the back and placing her on the grooming table. Already an anxious dog, this raised her anxiety level. The "groomer" was obviously inexperienced and kept getting instructions from other staff. I stepped away for a moment, thinking my dog might settle down if she didn't see me(and try to reach me). When I looked a few minutes later, the "groomer" was trying to muzzle my dog, who was beyond agitated from the man handling she was receiving. I immediately retried my dog and left. read more

Went to this PetSmart today to inquire about a pet food for my dog, who has food allergies. I didn't want to buy the prescription brand the Vet recommended. I was met at the door by an employee named Neil. I explained what I was looking for and he grabbed the prescription brand and compared ingredients to several other brands he carried. He made a recommendation and gave options if this didn't work. He was patient, very knowledgeable and so nice to work with. Refreshing to deal with someone who obviously knows what he's talking about and enjoys helping others. read more

I went through a lot of emotional stress because of their mistake. I signed a contract, believing I had bought two male gerbils. Instead, one of them was a male and the other was a female. This occurred four months after I bought these two so the 2 week contract was void. Except for the fact that I bought them believing they were male. Basically, I didn't sign a contract for a pair of breeding gerbils. All the manager could do was offer me a half priced cage and return one (later both) gerbils. That was it. I had to do everything. I had to find a shelter for the gerbil pups. I had to stress for an entire month over this situation. I couldn't focus on anything, most of the time I sort of just sat there, spacing out and thinking and thinking and thinking. I was placed in a worse mental state than I was already in. The worst part is that I didn't know I was allergic to animals, other than birds and fish. Those allergies had developed over time. I spent Sunday night in the Emergency Room because I was not being rational and tried to reunite the two parents. It didn't turn out so well. However, I had another pair of gerbils before who never bit me other than one of them nipping me sometimes. Yes, that was probably my fault. But if that mistake wasn't made, I would've been able to spend more time with them before not being able to own pets for a long time and needing to take allergy shots for years to come if I want any pet, that's not a bird or fish. I only had these gerbils for a few months. But I loved them. I loved their personalities. I loved how one looked like a mouse, acted like a cat and was actually a gerbil. I loved the one who ran on her wheel all the time, who one time pushed the male off from the 3rd floor (he was fine) and was finally beginning to warm up to me. I had to separate them. And I had to give them away. And I died a little each passing day. And a little more when I, who have always begged for a pet since I was little, couldn't be near any for a long, long time. To many others, this sounds stupid about how one person is able to get so emotional and into these gerbils that they have only owned for a few months. But what I want to make a point is that, I had to pay for an exam fee of $60 to get the gerbil pups sexed. I had to find homes for all of them. I had to suffer, I had to pay for their mistake. I already had a lot of my plate. I just got shoved more into my face. I didn't return any of the parent gerbils (They would not take in the pups) because after this incident, I didn't trust them. And if you were too lazy to read all this (I apologize, this is long, I have a lot to spout out), then please at least read this part. What I want to say is, even after all this the store is not bad in general, they just won't take the amount of responsibility they should be taking. Yes, according to the contract, they can't pay veterinary fees and also the gerbils are officially mine after 2 weeks. But I bought these gerbils under the impression that they were BOTH MALE. I got a MALE and FEMALE. So essentially, they very much lied to me and if they took responsibility other than the form of return the gerbils and cage discount which I didn't need at all, I would probably better off. If people love this store, great, it is a nice store. However, after this incident, I want to implore them to take responsibility if another incident like this happens! I don't want anyone else buying a same sex pair of any animal only to find they are male and female and whoops, they had babies and we can't do anything about that. Basically, it would probably be better to adopt at a shelter. There are too many animals out there needing homes anyway. Go here for supplies? Fine. Go here for animals? I would suggest looking at shelters first. Especially after this. They have saved over 7 million lives. It's on their website. They didn't save my gerbils' lives. My review is specifically about the grooming salon. They are not equipped to handle senior dogs. I gave very specific instructions about my dogs feet and said not to mess with them because my dog is old enough that he is done tolerating that (and clarified he had an upcoming vet appointment and they'd take care of it). When I came to pick him up, I got this passive aggressive note about how terrible he was and that he nipped at the groomer when she tried to do his paws. They don't understand how to handle older dogs. I will never take my dog there again. read more

I was disgusted by the manager of this location because he does not know how to resolves issues the right way. The manager argued with my mom told her to call corporate and was done with her all because she was upset about the way our dog was groomed in March. My mom did not receive any kind of compensation for it either. She also had to argue with the grooming department and the store manager walked away. I could hear the unprofessional groomers in the background yelling and screaming at my mom because she wanted them to make sure that our dog had a leash on before they left. All of this was going while my 7 month old daughter was in her arms. I think that the manager and his groomers should take customer services classes. read more

They really do a good job at grooming. However, when I came to pickup my white havanesse, she had a tick! When I confronted the staff, they blamed me for the tick. When I said, I wales out and back, where could she have gotten the large tick? Funny thing was, no apology, the manager was not in so then following week when I went back, he was not informed of the situation and again no apology. Poor customer service. I shopped this store for cat and fish products until recently. Upon my last visit I found a fish marked down for $4 on sale. Clearly false advertising. The manager of the store would not honor the sale price because they said it was in the wrong tank even though the name and photo of fish was on price tag. Instead the manager was sarcastic in his handling of it. I called to escalate to the customer service number but no solution. Avoid this store and order online. It's easier, less expensive and drama free. Live fish direct will ship fish to you fedex over night. Amazon can handle all your other needs. read more

My dog has been to well over 10 different petsmart grooming salons and NEVER had the problems he had here. I got a phone call saying he went to the bathroom on him self several times and that he was angry with the groomer so they had to cancel his grooming. When i picked him up he was half done (if that) and he had ACTUAL SHIT all over him. And they chalked it up to stress. Which is fine and all except for the fact that he was COVERED IN SHIT. My dog is so docile in baths there is no way they couldnt have washed his behind. In fact it probably would have calmed him down!! Instead he was half done, half wet, and covered in shit. THEN they tried to call several hours later probably asking for payment. Thank god they didnt ask for it then because i just had to get my fur baby out of that cigarette smoke infested grooming salon. Where whilst i was waiting for them to bring him out the groomers were working on other dogs in which one was practically yelling at the dog she was working on and pushing him around. I would highly recommend not going to this Petsmart. My dog is on prescription dog food and they refused to sell it to me because the animal hospital is closed. I've been to this petsmart once a month for the past five years to get this food. Joy the cashier was very unpleasant. I was having a conversation with the manager and Joy kept chiming in with her thoughts instead of ringing up the long line of customers. NEVER go to this petsmart! I went to take my guinea pig back to this Petsmart after discovering i was allergic to him. The first associate I spoke to shoed me away and told me to talk to some in the back after I informed him I did not have my contract. I informed the general manger that I did not have my contract because the associate I brought my guinea pig from told me that they would have a copy on file and I did not need it to return him.The general manger stated "no one in my store told you that" I told him that she did and he continued to disagree. He informed me that I would have to find someone to take him if i did not have the contract. Even though I bought the guinea pig a week ago the general manager refused to even look for their copy of the contract. This PetSmart is the best one I have found, and I've been to many up and down the east coast, having lived in Boston and Philly before moving to the D.C. area. There are three people in particular that I consider to be outstanding - Audrey in Grooming, Donna in Dog Training, and Iggy in Customer Service. At this point, I will only bring my dog to Audrey for grooming - after his every grooming appointment with her, I keep thinking he could not possibly look any better, but he somehow manages to... and the many people on the street who stop me to ask where I bring him for grooming are a testament to that. Independently, Donna had been my dog walker when I was living in the area, and the consideration, care and knowledge she always showed my dog were exceptional, and I found her to be extraordinarily reliable, compassionate, and trustworthy. Lastly, Iggy is continually warm, kind, and engaging, and seems like just an all-around good guy. Collectively, and individually, they are tremendous assets to the store. PetSmart, I hope you treat all of them well - they are some of the very best you have, and any employer would be very lucky to have them! read more

I don't go there that often. I have dogs but don't buy their toys which are all from China, and don't buy the food either since I buy grain free food from smaller shops. I went there to get food for my pond fish. Then, I decided to see if I could find a harness for one of my dogs similar to the one that a girlfriend had. I did not even have time to look at them that the manager came to ask me if I had any questions. I just asked if the leash had to be attached to the chest instead of the back. I should have shut my mouth. He starting telling me that my dog needed training, that he could be attacked by other dogs because of his behavior, that his kids would be in danger (??????). The guy got totally berserk on me. And then he tried to sell me his training lessons at $99.00! I mean seriously? He was loud, and obnoxious, I guess wanted to impress other customers who were around. Not only he did not impress me, but trying to make me feel guilty when he has no clue who I am, and never met my dog is totally irrational. Go take a Valium buddy, but don't harass people who don't ask you for your opinion! I will definitely skip that store! read more

I have taken my dog here three times to get groomed and will never go back! The first time I had to take him back in to get his face, ears and head cut a bit more. The second time they did an okay job, but his face was left too long. The third time, I asked that his face be cut a bit more then the previous groom. I picked him up and they has shaved his whole body! My silky terrier now looks like a rat terrier! Oh.....but, his face Is definitely shorter! read more

I literally don't know why I go back here and I really will never go back again. Every time I go the women are rude and act like you are inconveniencing them to do their job. My dog is a short haired dog that literally only needs to get her nails trimmed and sits quietly while having it done. A job that might take 5-10 min tops for a professional. I go in there today and one woman is working on a dog and the other woman is just standing there doing nothing staring into the store with a scowl on her face. There were no other customers so I asked her if she had availability to just trim my dog's nails. The expression on her face was like I was ridiculous to even bother her and said to me they close in 15 minutes and need to clean so they won't take my dog. I did look at their hours of business before coming and saw they closed at 6 PM and the time I talked to her was 5:35. So really they were open 25 more minutes to take customers for simple walk-in grooming needs. If this was my business, I would find it unacceptable to turn down business like that and so rudely. As I walked through the store I continued to watch this woman just stand at the front desk staring at nothing and NOT CLEANING for 15 minutes. Horrible customer service and I don't appreciate being treated like this every single time I go there. This is my first time ever writing a yelp review and that's how upset these people got me to feel like I had to write this. I will never go back. read more

I took my 11 month old chihuahua to have her nails trimmed, a service she has had many times at this location and others. When she was returned to me her nails were really raggedy, uneven and she was bleeding. I returned her to the grooming department and they put a powder on her nail to stop the bleeding. They explained that my dog had been moving so it was hard for them to trim her nails. Once at the register I asked to speak to the manager who attempted to compensate for the poor service by saying that her dogs also leave with their nails looking this way. When I told her I was unhappy with the service, she called a different manager to the front who was really rude and told me that these things are bound to happen. The cashier was the only one who was apologetic and she had done nothing wrong. I am displeased that they attempted a service that they could not properly perform. I would have preferred for them to tell me they were unable to clip her nails rather than do such a poor job and hurt my dog in the process. To add insult to injury, they were extremely rude about their mistake. I will no longer trust this Petsmart with my pet's grooming needs. read more

Petsmart is hit or miss with fish, especially decent feeder goldfish for my pond. I'm sick of spending big bucks for fish from other local pond stores only to have them die or get eaten by the neighbors cat within a week. Nearly all of the fish in my pond came from this Petsmart. The Petsmart in Rockville is much closer to home but every fish I've gotten there has died (usually they are so bad I don't buy at all) and ALL the fish I've gotten at this store are 8"+ and happy and healthy as ever. I think it is worth the extra mileage to come up here occasionally to get fish and it is easier to get help. read more

My dog was groomed by Kelly yesterday. He looks the greatest. He is a therapy dog for a nursing home, and I want him to look great. She took special care of him. Being new to the area and on the recommendations of co-workers and acquaintances, we took our 3 year old Mini Schnauzer to Petsmart in the Kentlands for grooming. We asked for a short cut and when we picked her up the poor baby was completely shaven to nothing including all of her leg furnishings, signature beard and eyebrows. Our pooch looked like a large chihuaha or mini pinscher. The person who groomed her had no idea what a mini schnauzer was supposed to look like. The groomer's reasoning for cutting everything off was due to some matting. Do you think a dog would have a beard or eyebrows deserving to be totally shaved off??? When we complained hysterically about our dog's appearance, the manager said there was nothing she could do but not charge us. Our dog came home depressed and was withdrawn for several days. She also shook her head violently for a day and a half which resulted from whatever they used to pluck her ears. She has never had problems with ear pllucking in the past at any other groomer. We will never go back to Petsmart and urge others to beware of what might happen to your dog as well if you take your pet there .. read more
