Overall this store has been okay. My most horrible experience was with the groomers. My dog never had any problem with me touching his paws. After I took him to get groomed here, my pet would not let me touch them anymore. I've observed how rough some of the groomers are with the other dogs. I wish I saw this before I took my dog here. Now I have a hard time getting him groomed after what they did to my dog. read more

pros... this petsmart is just miles ahead of the other one in chula vista. besides it being really close to my house. this one also has some of the friendliest and helpful staff of all the petsmarts. they have all the usual departments and the veterinarian hospital too. even my dog chuchu has a good time here, the floors are unspoiled and she can leave the store with unsullied paws, as the floors are swept and mopped immediately after defecation. cons... not enough grass outside for the doggies. and i still wouldn't buy fish at this petsmart either. besides that this is a much better petsmart then the one at rancho del rey. read more

I take my little Hanna here for grooming once a month with Nick. Each time he does a amazing job. More important to me than anything is that Hanna seems so comfortable with Nick. Pets mart has surprised me with their service... I usually went to Petco because it's closer to my home... But not only is petsmart more affordable but they have a better selection of products and way better service. The staff has treated me and my puppies like superstars, we've been walked around the store with product suggestions, the employees have given me offers like "the puppy starter kit" which saved me tons of money, when I didn't even know the kit existed... it contains food, coupons, discounts, puppy seminars, a vet visit... etc... etc.. for $20 bucks and my dogs have gotten B-day cards and a little present like a coupon or treats in the mail on their B-day. Also, the female trainer is compassionate and sweet with the dogs. I now prefer to shop at Pet smart, other stores usually have cheaper pricing, but even if the products vary by a dollar or two from time to time... petsmart staff is much more knowledgeable and helpful so they are well worth it. Such a great place. If I can't get my dog groomed in Tijuana I go to petsmart. The employees are nice and very helpful. Some things are expensive but when they have sales they are very good. And there are always coupons for food. Overall I am so glad it is the closest place for my dog. read more

Grooming: The ladies were nice the service was just okay.The whitening shampoo didnt seem to do much. The failed to brush their teeth as I requested. Everything else (nail trim,ear cleaning,bath,) was just okay. Now lets talk about Holly,my cashier, she had a horrible attitude it seemed like she was having an off day. The groomers forgot to seperate the bill for my boy friends dog and mine. So when we got to the cash register I asked Holly if she could split it for us and that I would be purchasing the bone we had. I also told her that my boy friend would be renting a let vac ( I know that process can be lengthy so i was giving her a heads up) her response was " How about you two figure out what half is." Seriously!? My boy friend decided to pay the whole grooming bill to make things easier since there was a line building. She rang him up and he left to grab the dogs. I was now renting the vacuum so she started ringing up the bone we were buying then as i was about to pay she cancelled the transaction and said "just go stand over there to see if there is a vacuum available." The guy who helped was very nice ( I wish I saw his name tag) then i had to go back to Holly to check out. I really just ignored her through that process. I dont know if she was having a rough day or what but she did not seem to want to be there at all. read more

I have been coming to this PetSmart for over 10 years. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. But this time my dog had a procedure at Banfield Pet Hospital. When walking my pet out of the store he had a BM and it was messy. James the trainer came to the rescue! He was courteous and kind. You could tell he loves working with customers and his job. He cleaned up my dog's mess and did not complain. The politeness and professionalism of this young man needs to be applauded! Please promote him so that he stays on board - you need more like him! read more

I think over the course of this store opening to now, there had been a great handful of really nice employees who knew about pets. Ive always enjoyed talking to the cashiers, who at times can be pretty funny. The store overall can be pricey, but they do have good deals and low prices to clear shelves. I've been going to this petsmart since I 1st came to San Diego. They years to have a plant area but they don't have it anymore now they have there plants in cups. They also have a lot of healthy fish sometimes there are dead fish but they are all usually healthy. They also give you a 17 day garrantee on the fish. They have Cats for adoption, Reptiles, Small Animals and Birds and a grooming Solon. The employees always come up to you if your in the fish department and ask if you need help. Sometimes the line gets long at the cash register but they end up opening another one if that happend. But over all this petsmart has great costumer service. read more

This is a really nice and clean store but it doesn't meet my satisfactions because it doesn't have, a spot for dogs in adoption only cats. Yesterday we went to Petsmart in Chula Vista to find information on a tortoise that showed up in our backyard. We were lucky enough to be helped by Marisela. The same thing happened to her so she knew exactly what type of species our Tortoise was. She told us what to expect, what to feed him, and she helped us find an enclosure for our new family pet. Nicole is the best groomer we've ever had! We will continue to go to this location for grooming as long as she is working here. We've never had great experiences with PetSmart grooming at other locations in our area. We brought our pomeranian here for a cut, nail grind, and teeth cleaning. He's usually extremely scared when we drop him off for grooming, but he was actually fine because Nicole was so nice. This was also the first time a PetSmart groomer took time to talk about different options for a cut. Not sure why all others told us we only had one option (basically a trim). We are in love with how he looks!! I wasn't the one who picked him up so I just wanted to make sure I let Nicole and everyone know that we appreciate the work she did. I've visited their store a few times, every single time I've been greeted by friendly employees. I've had some questions and the dog trainer was very nice and helpful. She was not pushy to have my dogs enrolled in training (I liked that). She answered all of my questions, and was just nice in general. I used to shop at PETCO, but their service sucks!!! this PetSmart is definitely better. I've taken my Yorkie for grooming, and they left him just how we asked. I noticed he wasn't scared when we picked him up, and wasn't scared when we visited days later. That was a big plus for us, as it shows they treated him nicely. The store has always been clean, employees are very helpful and friendly. They have a 30% off Halloween costumes, and toys for dogs! cant beat those prices! Overall, my dogs love going to that store, and I appreciate a good customer service. Definitely shop at PetSmart, even if I have to drive a few extra miles. read more

this place has great service, clean, price is right and a good selection. i have bought all my fish from here i have tried other stores in the area to try to support the local business but in this situation it is better to come to a big store. i have only had 1 time i had a person not knowledgeable in the dept but yet he didn't try to play it off, he said " sorry i don't know much about this dept. but i will do my best" and that's what he did. on the weekend the this guy (sorry i don't remember his name) he is very very in formed on fish and you can tell that fish are a passion for him. 4 stars not five cause they don't stock normally large to extra large cichlid. read more

The store is 'Meh'. Most of the employees are nice and helpful, but the fish area is messed up all the time, it lacks attention and love. There are rubber bands in the tanks, dead fish which they don't remove and being cannibalized, and it seems like some teenagers removed some gold fish from their tank and placed them in other tanks with the small aquarium fish. The whole store just seems understaffed and the fish area unkept. I don't have to much to complain about other than there is this one lady, with long curly black hair who seems not to like me or something. One time I was waiting for the fish guy to finish helping a customer. It was like a 30 min wait because there was the only one employee around and the customer just kept talking and talking about his aquarium and how he has it setup etc, and I am just standing there waiting patiently for the guy to finish for that the employee can help me and give me a fish. Anyways she comes along and ask me if I need help, I said "yes I do" and she says "Well that person will be with you when he's done with that customer" and walks away....like wtf? Why even ask if I needed help if you ain't gonna help? This last time which prompted me to write this, I was in line returning a cat bed that my cat did not like at all. I get into line and there is like 4 people in front of me. She comes up and asks a customer behind me who is also returning something if he is returning an item he had and proceeds to help the guy behind me even tho I was returning something too with four customers in front of me. I assumed that she is helping people with returns and so I walk over and ask her if she is open cause I also have an item to return. She says "no, the other cashier will help you". So I go back in line, and guess what? When she is done with the guy that was returning an item, she comes over grabs another customer behind me and helps her with her merchindise, even tho I was next and still waiting?? Like WTF?? And then some other guy in the back asks her if she is open, and all of a sudden she is open.......... I would of given the store four stars if it wasn't for that lady and the lack of love the fish section gets. Would of been one star instead of two stars only because the other employess are nice and actually help me when they ask unlike that curly black hair lady. read more

As soon as we picked up our dog, we immediately came to this store and we were pretty overwhelmed and didn't know where to begin. A sales lady approached us and talked about a starter kit for$19. We were approached by Samantha because we looked lost. She opened up the packet and talked about the benefits to include free first grooming, and other coupons that saved us a good amount of money. We decided to check the groomers because of the free coupon and we were met by Vivi and she took in our puppy and she did a good job. This location has the worst grooming ever..every time I call to get my cocker spaniel In for a hair cut and bath they lie each and every time.. I just called at 9:30 and the open at 9.. I asked about the grooming and bath appointments and she told me that they had an appointment at 2:30.. I asked to booked that time.. she asked for my telephone number and I gave it to her she immediately put me on hold.. came back about 4 mins later and said oh someone booked it online .I got upset and asked her if there was a reason why this happens each time I call , is there some note or caution that I need to be aware of that prevents my pet from being groomed? If there is I won't bother calling again to waste my time. Asked for a manager and she doesn't come in until 12:30.. I've explained to them that he doesn't do well with males and he's not "fixed". He's probably lashed out a few time but which dog hasn't with new people? He's not aggressive but doesn't like certain things. I'm calling corporate because why should I have to go out of my way to get him grooming when this location is close to me and they are trained "professional" do your job and stop lying to paying customers. read more

This is one of my main pet supply stores. The crew here always seem more helpful than the other locations and oddly the prices seem to be a little less than the same stores! I do not use grooming services so I can't help you out with that. They do have a vet but I think all vets in pet stores are a little pricey and I would rather have my own from private. I also want to add the employees are good about keeping this store clean. I rarely ever have to wait for service and the people seem to care about your pets or have pretty good helpful advice. We had a horrible experience with the grooming department here. To begin with, we were ten minutes early and walked into the room to not be greeted at all. Just stared at. Next, We were challenged on everything I was asking for. Everything I wanted done, she either had an excuse as to why she couldn't do it, or that it was easier on her if she didn't. For instance, I did not want my cats nails clipped or grinded because of a past experience. Her response was not one of reassurance, but more of "Well I have too. Sorry." She then questioned why I only wanted a dry bath, because previous experience at another location he did not do well with water. She insisted that she bathe him with water. The last thing was the questioning of the cut I wanted. I told her normally we do a lion cut, but I told her whatever she thought as a professional, and would make him look cute and presentable would be fine. To which she responded "well I can't guarantee he'll look cute or nice." I was not impressed by this. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, or if she did not want to be working on the holiday weekend but I feel like that's not a valid excuse. I gave this facility two stars because the manager was very willing to remedy the issue at hand. At that point I didn't want or trust her to work on my animal. Like I said, everyone has bad days but that's no excuse for displaying poor customer service. Especially since we were informed it was not her first offense. read more

We used to go to the Banfield in Minnesota, and just moved out here. And my teacup pomeranian had her shots come up. So we took her to the Banfield in Petsmart off Main Street, Chula Vista to set an appointment up. They told us they had time to do the shots that same day. So they gave her the Rabies and the Distemper Parvo, and they said that if she vomited or had diarreha in her past that we should give her that shot to help prevent it. But she never had that problem before. They talked us out of buying the premium plan because they told us she only needed one more visit. So she got the shots and we took her home and she ran straight to the water bowl and drank all the water, and she seemed fine, but in the next 10 minutes Zoey's upper lip got super swollen, her nostrils swelled shut, and her whole face got super puffy. So we called Banfield and were told to bring her right back that she was having an allergic reaction to the shots that they administerd (this never happened to her before when we lived in Minnesota). So ran her to Banfield and they gave her Benadryl and Steriods and a IV, and then they charged us for that visit there, were in their guide lines say in a emergencey from our fault there won't be any extra fees. Then they told us to take her to the Emergency vet off of H Street, so we raced her there, and as soon as we got in the door she threw up foam. Her blood pressure was low (they were also upset that Banfield didn't check her blood pressure), so they gave her an anti-nausea shot and some more steriods, an IV that was inserted between her sholders for fludis so she wouldn't get dehydrated; and told us that Banfeld gave her the wrong dose and if we hadn't brought her in she would have died. We were also informed from the Dr. at Banfield that they do not have a blood pressure machine (so for all you pet lovers out there, this is to inform you that is your pet is scheduled for surgery I highly recommend you taking them somewhere else that can monitor their blood pressure while your pet is asleep and having surgery) So please think before you bring your animals there, as of now we are pressing charges and are switching clinics. As the Emergency vet said this should have never happen. I just don't want it to happent to any other animal and their family. Our pet is starting to do better do to the Emergency clinic on H street that I highly recommend. read more
