I went in the day before thanksgiving to adopt a kitten, adoption process was a breeze, however! The kitten has fleas and I was not made aware of this. I called PetSmart and made them aware and was told "our kittens don't have fleas" which I know for a fact is bs. They do not sit and check each individual kitten when they just got transferred from the shelter the day before. I did not have fleas in my house prior to this and now I do. The only thing they offered me is a discount on flea sprays and over the counter preventatives which I have already tried with no luck, they said it would only be eligible to redeem at their store which is an hour away from me. I now have to pay a vet bill! If you adopt a kitten from here EXPECT FLEAS!!! UPDATE: my kitten has worms now as well! read more

Good pet store for a variety of your needs, including food, toys, accessories, grooming, etc. Good selection of items, although you can probably find most online cheaper. But sometimes you want to touch/hold the item to see the quality. Look for sales on items that interest you, like BOGO or % off deals. Decent selection of fish and a small selection of small furry friends like hamsters and guinea pigs. Even a few birds. I was greeted upon entering the store, and the employee working the fish area seemed very knowledgeable and was quite helpful. Two week return policy on fish. read more

It was a good spot and the perfect place to go for pet stuff the week after Christmas to get some toys for the year. They also have a variety of food and dog accessories. There is a Banfield Dog Clinic/HOspital that comes with this Petsmart There was ample parking and the cashier was also really helpful and nice. I went into pet smart on Saturday 10-17-2020 around 11am with my 5 year old son. Upon walking into the store I wasn't greeted but rather growled at by the brown haired tattooed cashier about pulling my mask up. I had just been to the dr the previous day and have a awful bacterial infection all over my chin from the mask and was advised by the dr to let it air out and not wear the mask. There was a long line of ppl when she growled this at me. I wasn't about to explain in front of all those ppl or get into a confrontation with her about the mask in front of my 5 year old son. I'm not stupid I see the signs everywhere and I also know that medical conditions are exempt. Furthermore maybe a more polite reminder after a greeting would had made the situation not so offensive right off walking into the store. I don't like that employees feel they can discriminate and play 'mask police' at a pet store or any store for that matter. There are a lot of pet lovers in the Charleston area and Charleston / West Ashley continues to grow thus a prevailing need for pet supplies etc is critically necessary. In comparison to some other PetSmart's I have entered in my day, this one is a little bit smaller, but has a strong convenience element to it. Right in the heart of the shopping area and just off of the Citadel Mall, it is easy in and out. Plus it is right off of Savannah Highway and Highway 526 catering to North Charleston folks as well. They have an on-site grooming staff and veterinary staff. Large selection of reptiles and fish and fantastic prescription and non-prescription food options for the canines and felines. Let us not forget the pet toys. So many small and large ones to choose from. Consistent with the culture, the staff is typically always patient and friendly. read more

I recently re-visited Petsmart to pick up a bag of dog food that I accidentally skipped from my Amazon Prime monthly subscription. Petsmart had many varieties of the Wellness brand dog food in stock at $72 for a 24 lb bag, and they matched a lower price found online of $66.99. This was a good deal but still a little more than my $62 Amazon subscribe and save price. I was disappointed that they do not sell cases of canned cat food; you must buy each can individually. At least this is the policy applied to Wellness brand cat food, so I'll stick to my Amazon subscribe and save order of bulk cases. Their cat section did not have many treat or toy options. This is the Walmart of pet stores. Their overall selection is wide but only includes low-end and mediocre products. They do not have a good selection of natural/organic treats, food, or well-made toys/leashes/collars. read more

PetSmart on Sam Rittenburg Boulevard is a great place to shop for all things pet needs. I really like the selection and amount of items offered at this location. The store is very convenient to just about anywhere in West Ashley and it is easy to get to from Interstate 526. There always seems to be plenty of parking close to the store and the inside of the store is always clean and smells good. I like that this store is just the right size and you do not get lost shopping here. The staff here is very attentive and will offer to help you as soon as you walk in and is very knowledgeable about just about any pet topic or question you may have. so we took our 7 month puppy to the groomer in petsmart. basically all of her nails look this short and looks like they had to put some sort of sealant over them to stop the bleeding because they cut too short. when we picked her up, our dog was SCREAMING from the back wanting to go home so badly and practically bolted out of the store, terrified. i don't know what they did to her but i've never seen her act this scared. i will not be bringing her back. go somewhere else. read more

We go to this PetSmart a lot because it's the closest pet store to our house and we need to get worms and crickets pretty frequently for our bearded dragon. We went in there today to get a 50 count tub of superworms, checked with the employee that it was the correct size, paid and left. When we got home, we went to feed our baby and there wasn't a single worm in the entire tub. We've had other issues here before with reptile food. There have been times where they haven't had any crickets even though they were only restocked a couple days prior. We usually check the worm tubs for a date since they're sometimes old with all dead worms. Unfortunately, we were in a rush today and didn't check, but not a single worm? We've been disappointed enough. There's a Petco not far away. I think we'll go there next time. read more

I'm appalled by the employee's behavior here. I scheduled my dog to have grooming services this past weekend. I had a bad experience with PetSmart Grooming on Sam Rittenberg several years ago, where they locked my dog up in a kennel without food or water for six hours and forgot about him when he was supposed to just be getting a haircut. They even lied to us when we called to check on his progress. I figured the incident was far enough in the past that I would give them a second chance. Anyway, when we got there this time they informed me that he did not have an appointment, even though I had just hit the "confirm" button through an e-mail they sent me that morning. When I asked them why they hadn't let me know about the change, they said they had called me that morning and we had a conversation about it. I had no missed calls or voice messages from them, and I certainly did not have a conversation with them that morning. A simple reschedule is one thing, but I absolutely did not appreciate being lied to. Not only is that poor customer service, that's a terrible way to treat another human. Gaslighting, like these employees tried to do to me, is considered psychological abuse in vulnerable populations and needs to be taken seriously. I asked to speak with a manager to discuss this, and the two employees I was dealing with called someone in who took my information down and said a manager would call me that night. I still have not heard from this manager. I've been buying my dog's supplies here for years, but they have completely lost my business. read more

I stopped by here after work one day to pick up some food for my dog ... he's not quite into the big dog food yet, and still requires the puppy chow ... upon arrival at the dog food aisle, I was flummoxed by the choices presented to me ... three aisles of dog food! I just wanted to take a minute to brag about the employees at this location. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by all of the friendly cashiers. I walked around for a few minutes and then one of the employees stopped to ask if I needed help. I told her that my dog was shedding like crazy and I needed something to help with all the hair. She walked me over to the Furminator section and told me all about the product and helped me choose the right one. She could tell that I was a little worried about the price, so she told me about the online price matching! It ended up saving me about $15 at check-out. I'm sorry I cannot remember her name, but she was an older lady with 5 rescue dogs and she was wearing a Blue Buffalo shirt! She was so nice and helpful. When I got to the register to check-out, the lady ringing me up wasn't completely sure how to do the price matching on the register, so the cashier beside her was very fast to help her out with the transaction. It's awesome to see employees work as a team like that. While we were checking out, all of the cashiers were playing with my dog (Sully that looks like a fox) and giving her treats- she loved the attention! This store has the laziest front end staff I have ever met! Not only do they stand around talking among themselves they see a line of people waiting to check out and instead of getting on register they shout across the store saying they are waiting for the cashier to arrive when they could easily jump on since the majority of them have been cross trained including the manager. Waiting 10-15 minutes for help is unacceptable especially when you have 5-7 people just standing around. read more

This is a grreat store..tons of selection, clean, and friendly customer service. They run some great sales....saw some $3-5 plus dog toys marked down as low as 1.27 and there was a lot to choose from ....pet clothes, costumes as well. I was able to get 60 chews in a bag of Lysine for cats for $8 for rewards members and $10 if not. Saw the same at Petco for $25 and I think it was a smaller bag. Got a bag of Temptations Hairball treats for cats on sale for 1.50. I've used their Banfield vet office and had no problems and they are open 7 days a week with later hours than regular vet offices. Haven't tried the groomers yet....the prices look average. Services can be available on walk-in basis while you shop. It is a drive for me from the N . Area is the only reason I don't come here more often. Looking forward to a new store coming in December on Rivers next to Barnes & Noble. It appears to be a one stop shop for all your pet needs...supplies, medical, grooming, and obedience training or to adopt a new pet . I've heard some Petsmart places have pet hotels...not sure if this store has one or not. There are ample walking areas for your pet outside the store with nice landscaping. read more

The location is easily accessible, lots of parking (edged by trees) and tucked away near Citadel Mall. The "pee areas" for dog owners are no more that the small areas beneath the trees. Better than zero green/dirt areas for sure! A trash can right there would be good (although they do provide one/poop bags immediately before entering the doors. A small, fenced-in area would be pawsitively spectacular! The store is typical set up of large chain pet stores: bright, organized aisles, grooming room at the back. This location has a pet hospital which is super cool! There's also 2 areas dedicated for rescues (cats in the weekdays I've shopped & dogs on Saturdays... But I could be wrong re this schedule... Best to check with the store. Clean, always well maintained ares, even when we can see their "back rooms", looks good/seems also clean & tidy. Lots of critters! Variety of animals and their necessary equipment, food, lodgings etc. All living things at this store seem healthy, fairly relaxed & comfortable. Even the fish look good (no floaters, clean tanks). I like that I've never seen "purebred" pups & kittens for sale. Instead, there's a focus on rescues. Staff are good for the most part, willing to help and friendly. I just wish that when they approach all dogs that they would respect basic body language and energy rules: Approach calmly/assertive vs. high pitched voice/high energy/submissive. This would help those of us who are working very hard at helping our canines decrease their anxiety and increase their positive social interactions. Prices are great! Lots of sales. Price matches and staff are knowledgeable. Loved the Blue Buffalo lady who totally respected our budget, didn't hard-sell her products. Also wish there was a doggy H20 fountain. (The climate here is so hot!) The PET STORE ITSELF is hghly recommended. Two paws up! HOWEVER....the GROOMING SALON located within this location is NOT RECOMMENDED. I normally give any establishment 3 chances, but considering what I saw, I highly question the care and ability of one groomer in particular. I had to wait while she looked it up on her PC and in a binder... Meanwhile, another groomer came out of the back doors leading to the kennels and she was obviously annoyed/angry about something. She swooped down, picked up a cocker-dog and as she was turning/standing up, knocked said dog's little head against the corner of the grooming table...HARD. Doggy yelped, but lady only rubbed the dog's head a bit and stormed back to the kennels. She did not notice that I CLEARLY saw her toss the dog into a kennel until it was too late. I love Petsmart. They are always really clean, friendly, and have a great selection of toys, food, treats, and gadgets for my cat. I've never run into issues with things being out of stock, and the prices are better than other pet shops in the area. The staff is always really willing to help with those tough pet food related decisions with sound advice and a reminder that they have a 100% return policy if your critter decides it hates you and your attempt to bring it happiness. Only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they are sometimes a little short handed and you might have to go to another department to find someone to help you. read more

I can honestly say that I have always enjoyed a Petsmart visit. I came to like most of their products and the store as a whole is okay. The constant customer service can be a little over done at times but it is not like they are harassing me as I saunter through the dog food aisle. I will admit their very knowledgeable or at least find a good answer about the products or services that they provide. In addition, their store is rather clean and always stocked to the fullest capacity, which is good for picky costumers. "My wife!" My only gripe about the store is directed towards Banfield. They constantly call me about my dog's medical appointment, even if there was not an appointment made by me. But, I guess that type of customer service can be good at times. Plus, I always have an appointment made. Also I don't understand there payment plans. I think they do a poor job discussing what plans covers what. I have a yearly plan with them and I have no knowledge as to what my plan covers. Furthermore, I have taken my dog into Banfield for ear problems only to find out that I have to pay more money because these problems are not covered in my plan. Anyways, I have no other complaints with store. I mainly go to this store because I have yet to find a cheaper place for pet products. read more

I've used Petsmart grooming in other cities & they have always been great, so when I moved to West Ashley I didn't think twice about taking my dog there for grooming. We have now gone three times and each time has been more disappointing than the last. I pay extra for nail grinding, to make sure my pup's nails aren't sharp at the end, at once when I picked her up, I could tell they had not even touched her nails! Yesterday when I took her, I again asked for nail grinding and told the girl at the counter to please make sure they are smooth. She said no problem. Two hours later, I picked up my dog & not only did she still have dirt on her face (even though they bathed her) but her nails had obviously been clipped! While I'm glad they didn't forget about them this time, but don't make me pay the extra money for grinding if you aren't going to do it! Overall, I have found this grooming center to be unprofessional, rough with the dogs, and not very good at their jobs! Save your money and go somewhere else! read more

I know that PetSmart has many live animals and their associated supplies, but for this review I can only comment on the area where we were helped, which was the hermit crab section. The variety of supplies was pretty good, and the two associates who helped us were knowledgeable in guiding us and not pushing in any way to make choices. The selection of replacement shells for hermit crabs was somewhat limited and each shell was fairly expensive (shop online for these.) We'll stop in here again for food and other supplies and if my son would like another crabby friend to add to his collection. There is a vet's office attached to the store as well. We were there around 8:00 pm and it was still open. read more

I typically have an ok experience with the groomers at this location, but today was my last straw. I received a call on Tuesday notifying me that the grooming salon had a deal going on for Labrador Retrievers where they get 10% off their salon visit and a goodie bag. She asked me if I would like to schedule an appointment so I took her up on it and scheduled it for the upcoming Thursday at 9:00am. It was all settled and confirmed. I arrive at Petsmart at 9:00am on the dot because I needed to drop my dogs off so I could get to school by 9:30am. I go into the salon with two grown labs and it took them 10 minutes just to sign me in. Then the girl tells me that my appointment wasn't until next Thursday and I would have to come back then. I told her what the other girl told me over the phone and confirmed that my appointment was this Thursday and as I said earlier, I had to go to school after so I couldn't take me dogs with me. After some phone calls and frustration they finally decide to take my dogs in for a shave and bath. I always take my older lab to get shaved because he is outdoors most of the time, sheds a lot, and will get irritated skin if his hair gets too long. The groomers then proceed to act as if it is wrong and an inconvenience to them for them to shave my dog which is the service that I brought him in for and am paying them for. I did not appreciate the rude way in which the employees treated me and their disorganization causing me to be late to school. This will be my last service with them. read more

They do not honor their sales and have uneducated managers, specifically Kayla. I wanted to buy two GNC products. The sign clearly stated Buy 1, Get One 50% off. She tried to tell me it was for only certain products and pulled two that had the tag, swiped them and they still did NOT show the sale!!! I tried explaining her argument is invalid because the GNC items she pulled with a sale tag did NOT ring up as a sale. Plus, the sign says ALL GNC products! She literally is so vacuous that she could not make logic of her illogical argument. I left my whole cart and headed to Petco. read more

We recently decided to add a bearded dragon into our family, I did a bunch of research before hand to find out where had the best prices for the amount of things we needed since we were just starting out and PetSmart's prices were at least 50 dollars cheaper than anywhere else so this is where we went. Not only did we find everything we needed, the employee that helped us actually saved us even more money by showing us a better (and cheaper) way to go, and she actually had a beardie as well so she was very helpful. Everyone always wants to make a sale but I was very happy she actually wanted us to get the best for our animal and not just the most expensive one. I wasn't sure how much they'd be able to help considering it's not like a dog or cat that everyone has but I was very pleased with my experience! Plus I've looked at a couple other stores and I will say the one we went to had the cutest/some fun colored ones instead of all brown like at most pet store. read more

This review is regarding the Grooming Salon for the PetSmart in West Ashley on Sam Rittenberg Blvd. I've been taking my kid (2 year old cockapoo) there for grooming since he was a pup. For the most part I was okay with the service, but not thrilled. They seemed to have a difficult time grooming his hair to my liking and he would shake and whimper every time I brought him in for an appt - which is unusual behavior for my kid as he's (too) outgoing and friendly and loves everyone and everything. There were also occasions where I saw the grooming staff being "less than gentle" with other dogs. I never saw them mistreat my kid, but I saw them with others on 2 occasions that left me with an uneasy feeling. Today, I had a scheduled appointment with the salon at 10:30. I brought my kid in at 10:20, wanting to make sure I'm on time and not set them back for other appts they (PetSmart) might have for the day. When I arrived there were 2 associates there working on one dog. They seemed to be trying to keep him still while grinding his nails. I waited patiently. But after some time one of the associates was doing nothing but looking around for a bandana to put on the other dog. Meanwhile, another customer walks in for service. To me, this is not efficient - you have 2 customers waiting (one has been there for over 10 minutes already for a scheduled appt) and you need 2 associates to finish up one dog with a bandana?? At one point, I asked the associates if I was waiting for someone else to come and check me in - they're response, wait till they're done with the other dog. It's now 10:30. Finally, one of the associates is starting to check me in and I feel the attitude coming from her across the desk so I'm already unhappy. Start the check-in process, my kid's groomer is not there yet. Okay, I had a 10:30 appt, its 10:30, been waiting for someone to check me in for over 10 minutes, AND you have an attitude with me??!! I'm done! As I'm waiting for the store manager to show up so I can complain about the service, 2 other PetSmart store associates tell me that they've had similar complaints with the salon. One was about the attitude of the staff. The other was about the quality of service. Alrighty then - that sealed the deal for me - NEVER AGAIN! read more

I never write reviews, but I felt this needed to be said. I scheduled an appointment for my dog to be groomed, but when I got there they informed me that I know have to wait 2-4 hours for him to even be seen. What's the point in making a schedule? Finally after allowing them to keep my dog in their care for 2 and a half hours I got annoyed and finally went back in. As I walk through the door I hear the groomers yelling at a dog that's already tied to a table. That's no way to treat an animal. I finally get me dog and they did virtually nothing to him other than bathe him. So you're telling me I waited almost 3 hours just for him to get a bath? LASTLY, they charged me $63 for all of this, after I said there was a coupon I had, they pretty much called me a liar and argued with me that they don't do that. It wasn't even that much off, but I still felt that I had to make a scene just to get my dog back. Poor customer service, poor grooming, and poor conditions. Will never do that again. read more

I proceeded to follow their instructions, then found out today after attempted to feed them to my geeks that they were dead because you CAN'T REFRIDGERATE THEM. More dead fish than I have ever seen today. A worker who referred to Nerite snails as Nitrate snails and hardly any help. No stock and tanks badly in need of cleaning. But paying one of the lowest wages in town while raking in millions is the reason. Petsmart needs to step up and pay a living wage and maybe it would get and keep good employees. read more

The sign posted on their door and information on their website says they are open from 9am-9pm however the employees play pretty fast and loose with this. After attempting to visit to pick up dog food last night (Friday) and finding the doors locked at 8:54 (no big deal really) I arrived at 9:05 am to try to pick it up before work. Doors were locked. I waited around with another customer who had her dog there for grooming for a 9 am appt. She rang the bell several times. At 9:11 am I turned to her and said "they still open at 9 am right?" And she shrugged and said "9-9:30, it varies." It varies??? As someone who also works in retail and has our managers worry if we open at 9:03 instead of 9, I know that this is unacceptable. Let me begin by saying that I LOVE shopping at PetSmart. The employees are always very helpful and friendly. This review is based solely on the groomers. A few months ago, I brought both of my dogs in to get their nails trimmed. I was greeted, but my dogs were not. If the dogs are their clients, I would assume that they would try to make them comfortable. I was asked to fill out an information card for each dog that consisted of important information about the dog. One of my dogs has separation anxiety (this causes him to feel very anxious any time he thinks I am leaving him somewhere)...which I wrote on the card, but as soon as I gave the cards back to the employee, they took my dogs back without even looking at the cards. Why did I waste my time filling out the information cards if they were not planning on actually reading them before they worked with my dogs? They then told me it would be better if I would make myself not seen so that my dogs can be more calm. Since one of my dogs has separation anxiety, this actually made him more anxious. Why do they have a window for you to watch if they don't want you to? It would have made my dog more comfortable if he could have seen that I didn't leave. I did try to peek without him noticing (as they requested) and I noticed that they were a bit rough when trying to hold his paw. I understand that you have to be firm to make sure that you don't hurt the dog while trimming their nails, but they yanked his arm several times... which I felt was not needed at all. I also watched one of the groomers start to snack on something (maybe Cheetos?) at a grooming station. Shouldn't that be done during their break time in a break room? Not only is that unprofessional, but just gross. Unfortunately...PetSmart lost my business that day. read more
