This Petsmart is our go to spot for pet supplies on JI. It's in the shopping center with Bilo and O2 fitness, with a huge parking lot! Any store that we can bring our sweet, erratic dog to is a winner in my book. She enjoys this store, despite slipping on the floor. In addition to the normal food and toys, we also take our girl here to be groomed. All the people who work in the grooming department are so sweet. They always take good care of our pets, and we pick them up happy and smelling good! For the most part, you'll be able to find whatever you need here. I believe they do training here also, despite being a smaller store. They don't have prescription food at this location, which is a bummer. We have to get out to West Ashley to snag that. Employees are pretty friendly, though some of them are noticeably more knowledgeable than others. Nice tip from an employee recently- they will price match anything from Petsmart.com. Especially when making a big purchase, double check the price! We saved about $25 off our dog's crate by checking. read more

I am very disappointed with my recent grooming experience at PetSmart. When I picked up my dog, Kahlo, no one told me she had been nicked on her ear during her groom. I only discovered the injury after we got home. I understand that accidents can happen, but what I can't accept is the lack of communication and transparency. Over the next several days, Kahlo repeatedly shook her head because of the discomfort, causing the wound to reopen and bleed multiple times. I ultimately had to take her to the veterinarian, where she was diagnosed with acute moist dermatitis. This resulted in an unexpected vet bill that I was not in a position to afford. Had someone simply been honest about what happened and explained how to care for the injury, this experience would have been very different. Pet owners deserve clear communication when something goes wrong, and I hope PetSmart does a better job of being transparent in the future. read more

I now see that it's not just me and this has been going on since the store opened. (See all 2-star reviews and bellow, some 3-star) WHY do they post instore & on their website as well as having a sign "salon walk-in services" when you walk in the door 2-6 Yappy Hour, Mon-Fri! CLEARLY, they don't understand the concept of "walk-in service" NOT requiring an appointment!!! I've have tried to 3x's this year (its April) to get my dog in during yappy hour and the first time no one was there-they were closed-shut down/lights off and everything. The manager on duty opened up the salon and did her nails himself. However, no real apology, just that he had to manage his employee hours & it was slow. It was 5pm! I even left work to get there during Yappy Hour. The second time I had an appointment for 1 of my dogs and was going to bring the other back when they were finished just to get her nails trimmed. I was told they wouldn't be able to get her in because they were booked... It states you provide WALK-IN services on the sign I just passed! Today the third attempt since they told me to try back during the week and today was Tuesday, I go in at 5:20pm and was meant by Andrienna who was quite rude and unforgiving. She made it clear that I had to make an appointment regardless of what your store sign states, and that they had already closed everything down and were leaving... EXTREMLY unprofessional and definitely not a customer service centered business. Again, no empathy, no apology, just attitude like I was disgusting her. DO BETTER PETSMART!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The store is clean and the fish tanks are some of the best looking among the local pet stores. The staff is caring and always smiling. It's in a convenient location and not typically too busy. Their biggest downfall is not carrying prescription pet food, but this is only because they do not have a Banfield Vet onsite. read more

I have driven here 3 times from and hour away to be rudely turned away: the first time for not informing me your pet must be vaccinated at least 3 days before your appointment, and then two more times for being a mere 15 min late when traffic getting here was a nightmare. They aren't interested in helping you, your pets or clearly making any money. Do not waste your time and money going here. Great place to purchase food, toys, etc for your pets but do not come here for grooming. I took my Pomeranian in to get a normal bath and cut and when we picked her up she was extremely anxious and vomiting. Her haircut was also choppy and uneven. when we reached out to express our concerns with the experience, they offered to have us bring her in the next day to have it fixed. As soon as we stepped foot into the grooming area she immediately started panicking and wanting to leave which is very unusual behavior for a dog that is always excited to go new places and meet people. I have no idea what happened to her prior to us bringing her back to have her cut fixed but I have lost all trust in them to take care of my pups. read more

This Petsmart in general is kind of small, though clean. They don't carry my kitty's prescription food, which is a pretty major bummer. I have to trek my butt over to West Ashley for that, despite living about 5 minutes away from this location. The biggest draw here is the fabulous grooming salon employees. I've been bringing my dog here for a few months, with a different employee every time, and each time has been a great experience. Taylor is now a groomer (my girl just gets a bath and nail clip), but she is THE BEST. Very friendly and knowledgeable- she immediately had a recommendation for my old girl with skin problems that had changed her for the better! No other groomer has ever been able to provide a suitable fix for her itchy, dry skin before. Taylor, you are why I keep coming back. All the employees here will do their best to help you out, which really does stand out!! read more

This PetSmart on Folly Road in James Island is one of my favorite pet stores in the Charleston area. They have just about all of the pet supplies that you could ever need in one place. Everything is well organized here and the store is layed out with specific sections that are well labeled and it easy to find exactly what you are looking for. The store is always clean and well maintained which is impressive considering all of the pet traffic through here on a given day. They have really good prices and value and will also do a price match guarantee if you find an item at a lower price elsewhere which is a really good deal. The staff here is very friendly and will go out of their way to make sure that you find everything that you need. Overall this is a great pet store. read more

My first time having my dog groomed at PetSmart and I'm a convert. First, being able to book the appointment online was a huge plus because i only ever remember that I need to do these things after business hours. Tabitha (the groomer) achieved the until-now impossible: my cocker spaniel looks beautifully groomed but not overly groomed. The add-on cost of conditioner and nail grinding (after cutting) are well worth the result,too. Finally, the groomers' Venmo addresses are posted in the shop so I could send a tip (and thanks) without cash. After attempting to groom my dog last spring during lockdown I'm a firm believer that the groomer is, indeed, an "essential business". It's a task best left to skilled professionals at any price. This grooming salon used to be my favorite. The staff was always friendly and helpful. I have an American Staffordshire who is a big baby when it comes to water. The staff has always been more than accommodating and helpful with her. However, that is no longer true. It seems as though they have completely switched out their staff. When I took my dog in for her latest bath, the staff was all new faces, and less than friendly. While I decided to give them a chance and get to know them, I regret it. They were never welcoming or very helpful. Upon pick up they complained about my dog's fear of water and that she escaped her lead due to fear. I find it odd that suddenly the notes they had in the system about my dog are gone and that they were not aware. It seems as though this staff is inexperienced or not well trained. It looks like I will have to find a new grooming salon. read more

Not worth the money.. I took my lab there for a monthly grooming with Gabbi and it was a mess from the start. When I arrived to drop her off none of the staff were wearing mask and the grooming area was a disaster. Staff was less than friendly and unprofessional. After two hours of waiting, staff called to "remind me" my dog was ready to be picked up and that they closed in 15 mins. However, no one ever called to let me know they had finished the grooming in the first place. Her nails looked like they had been cut by a dull pair of clippers and were rough and jagged and her paw pads were not shaved down. For $50 you could support a local groomer who will do a better job. Brought my dog to have groomed. Make sure you come late because they will not let you drop off early. I had to wait 20 minutes for a groomer to show up to drop her off. Honestly if I could find another groomer close by this would be my last choice. Service is less than impressive and staff is not friendly at all. Went to PetSmart to have my dachshund groomed. It is conveniently located very close to me. A bath including nail trim, ear cleaning, and anal gland express is only $17! As most small dog owners know, it is very important for smaller dogs to have their glands expressed. In my case, I have to take her every month. I took my dog there last week and specifically stated the importance of having this done. When I picked her up, they stated that her glands were empty; it was also written on their "paw-gress" report that nothing came out. I knew that there was no way that this was the case. I had neglected to take her for over a month and she was way passed due. I noticed her discomfort. I immediately took her to her vet . And guess what? Her glands were super full! This causes her discomfort and can lead to very expensive and I'm sure painful problems. I'm not sure if they lied to me about doing it or they just don't even know how to properly groom an animal. I just took my cocker spaniel to the Petsmart salon location and I'm so happy with the results. Not only does she look good but I was able to schedule her with a day's notice - and book it online! And it took them less than 3 hours...a huge thing for me since my dogs are not used to kennels. Price is comparable to any other local groomer and so is quality and timing. Some are dog people. Some weirdos are cat people. Some like rodents. And then there's me. A lone wolf in a sea of land animal loving pet owners. I am a fish guy. Or, I should say, was a fish guy. I saw too many of my friends make the choice to adopt a four legged oxygen breathing animal that ended up having their lives consumed with responsibility and expenses. I took the easy way out - fish. One of the easiest, least intelligent, simplest, smallest, cheapest pets one can own. Wrong. Very wrong. We could not be more different. We don't even breathe the same shit. Apparently there's more than one type of freshwater. Apparently stress can kill them in hours. Somehow a fish tank costs $60 and takes just a little too long to ship. Food? Apparently that's not an option for a mere 36 hours. Figured he had enough water he wouldn't get dehydrated. So what I bought him a little buzzed and had the little flipper drive 9 hours with me. Fish are supposed to be the easy way out. Well I'm starting to think Sushi (yes that was his name) took the easy way out when he realized he had to suck up a few days in a beer glass. Sorry I don't pay for amazon prime 2 day shipping! I don't even know if it was a "he"! Stupid fish can't even express their gender! How PC! Now I have a 8 gallon tank that's loud AF with no fish. Tonight I'll be kept awake not only by the splash of water hitting a lifeless aquarium but also by the fact that I cant even keep a damn gill-bearing aquatic animal alive. PetSmart grooming always does a wonderful job...but was really disappointed today when I got a call saying that their groomer was sick...so they had to close early at 4:30pm and cancel my dogs appointed that was at 2pm? When I asked if I could come earlier they just no they would need "up to 4 hours" to groom my 9lb toy poodle. No apology. No offering to accommodate in any way. Couldn't even fit me in for an appointment next Sunday. Very frustrating. I get that things happen and people get sick but a simple "we apologize for the inconvenience" would have been nice?? read more

Please DO NOT buy betta fish here. (Or any other fish, really). The bettas, especially, are not cared for. I looked at them and saw at least 4 sick fish, and one of them was dead. Please take better care of the fish. They're just as important as any other pet. read more
