Amazing experience for our last minute need for boarding our baby girl. I had two phone calls with…read moreAbby, the manager, and felt so uneasy bringing our girl. Abby was short and came off as rude, buuuuttt at the location she and all the staff were so kind. Perhaps they just get busy on the phone. Glad I didn't choose our other option. The outside of the building leaves a lot to be desired but yes, you are in the right place! Highly recommend. When we need boarding in Charleston we'll come back here

I had a reservation for my 1-year-old dog to stay at Charleston Dog House, booked since October 2…read more It was her first time at any boarding facility, and I made this clear when booking. I also called multiple times to discuss payments and inform them of her anxiety. My veterinarian confirmed she is not an aggressive dog but can be protective in my presence. To also mention- my veterinarian (knowing how my dog is) actually recommended that I take my dog to Charleston Dog House, so I truly thought my dog would be in great hands with her anxious tendencies. When we arrived, the atmosphere was chaotic, with loud and unsettling animal noises. To my shock, I observed a staff member screaming at the dogs. My dog, understandably anxious, began barking and hiding behind me. A staff member attempted to reach for her despite her clear discomfort. My dog barked but did not lunge--an interaction I witnessed directly. The staff's response was unprofessional, with one member yelling and another observing her as though she were a major issue. After completing the paperwork, I was told rudely that they would call me in 5-10 minutes to decide if my dog could stay, depending on her behavior. This possibility had never been mentioned before, which was especially concerning as I was about to leave for a trip to Florida. Feeling uneasy, I returned to my car, where I began to cry--both because of how scared my dog was and how cold and unhelpful the staff had been. Just two minutes later, a staff member knocked on my car window to demand I retrieve my dog because she wouldn't move from the lobby. They gave her no time to adjust and didn't even offer to let me walk her back to help ease the transition. I explained to the staff that this situation was incredibly stressful and inconvenient, as I was set to leave for Florida within the hour. I shared that our vet has handled my dog without me present and described her as calm once I'm out of sight. None of this seemed to matter. What upset me further was when my father called to inquire about a solution. The staff falsely claimed my dog was jumping on and biting them--something they never mentioned to me at any point. This misrepresentation of events and lack of transparency were unacceptable. Fortunately, I was able to find another facility in Walt Disney World that, within five minutes, made me feel far more at ease than Charleston Dog House ever did. The difference in professionalism and compassion was night and day. Charleston Dog House turned my dog away after only two minutes, citing "separation anxiety" without attempting any accommodations. Their lack of patience, compassion, and professionalism caused undue stress for both me and my dog. I would not recommend this facility to anyone, especially those with anxious or first-time boarding dogs.

They do a great job, very by the book, and always have the dogs smelling great when you pick them up. It's a little thing, but to me all the little things out up to one big thing! Strongly recommend.

Nope. Was optimistic with trying out DD after reading decent reviews but I found it a little…read moreuncomfortable that they told me they don't accept your pet's normal food and only give out Blue (unless you have an Rx food)- but I bought into it because I wanted to switch my dog over anyway. While our dogs were there, we got no communication or indication of anything. When my boyfriend picked our pups up, he felt extremely rushed because of the line and didn't get to talk long to anyone about their stay. I ended up calling myself and literally had to "prod" for answers about how everything went. Only got "they did well" and no details of anything. I know no news is good news, but I could've used a little more detail instead of one word answers and me being the only one talking. The icing on the cake was when our dogs came home, the one who was w other dogs got EXTREMELY sick and the other who was in private play caught the bug 24 hours later from the first. We know anxiety poops after change of scenery/boarding/etc. this was NOT that and our vet needed to prescribe antibiotics because it continued to last into a week and wasn't getting any better. Not saying the bug is anyones fault, but it's the last straw I needed to never go back. Thanks but no thanks!

I have brought my dog here for over 2 years now and have started bringing my other dog as well…read more They truly care about both of my dogs and treat them so well. They will provide updates (if asked) and are very flexible with last minute bookings. One of my dogs has a seizure disorder and had a seizure during boarding. They notified me promptly and watched her closely and provided updates. After I requested, she drink more water and have more restful times during the day, they accommodated. I am never worried about the care my dogs get when I drop them off.

This review is from 2+ years ago but I doubt anything has changed. STAY AWAY…read more If I could leave 0 stars, I would. I just moved to Charleston from Boston and brought my shih tzu, Coconut, into this place in hopes of finding a new daycare for her. I like her to get socialization and I work from home. I came in after filling out paperwork for an assessment. On the phone, I was told the assessment would cost $7 for 2-3 hours onsite. When I came in, they told me it's $7 per hour. I told them that wasn't what was communicated to me (multiple times really) and that they should go by the pricing I was quoted. Then they called the manager who basically said $7 per hour. I asked to speak to her (many times actually) and was told I could not because she was off site today. Eventually, we moved past this. I expressed that I was willing to get a large package of daycare sessions, but $7 an hour just isn't worth it for an assessment when they're normally quick & free. They start showing me the facility. They admit that many dogs pee inside (which is odd - I understand dogs/excitement/etc. but that shouldn't be the norm). I asked about walks - they don't do them due to the location. I asked about outdoor visits. She said your dog would be in the small dog area. They DO NOT have access to outdoors... for the full day. Are you kidding me? Dogs could hypothetically be there from 7am-7pm and you aren't going to let those poor things outside? She said if you request it, they can let them out. She told me to go to go to Summerville where they have access to the outdoors. That is completely unrealistic and far from where I live. At that point, I was so horrified that I left. I asked to speak to the manager again (more because I think their practices aren't healthy or safe) and she said what do you want to speak to her about? You've asked a lot of questions. Overall, I've taken my dog to 3 daycare facilities before in and out of state. I can't believe this place has good reviews. I would never send my dog here. Be mindful of how this place treats your pets. They also have almost no one watching the dogs and look at them on a webcam. Just shameful.
