Grooming: I took my dog here for the first time recently. It started off with Isaac being late for the appointment and the other people working there weren't willing to check us in. So while I'm waiting around for this man to arrive for his shift I have plenty of time to notice how utterly filthy this place is. I get it that dogs are groomed here but there were tufts of hair from the entrance all the way to the back of the store where grooming is located. The check in area hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Because the groomer was late the appointment took way longer than it should have which just caused stress for my dog. Someone else (must've been a manager) finally checked us in and said she would give Isaac the notes on my dog for his groom. I didn't have a lot of confidence but overall it came out nicely. I have a short haired dog so no haircut or shaving was required. He just needed a bath, brush and nails but it still took 2 hours. (Scenthound does this is 15-20 minutes). PetSmart: #1: require that your groomers show up on time for their shifts #2: fix the check in process so that whoever is standing around can perform this task (but if #1 is handled there wouldn't be an issue) #3: increase your standard of cleaning and require at least an hourly vacuuming of the hair. I was absolutely covered in long hairs by the time I left this place and was sneezing from everything that was floating around in there. Gross. The store in general: it is usually well stocked and I'm able to get in and out with what I came for. There happened to be a promotion for a free toy with my purchase and I don't think it's too much to ask for the cashier to mention it with ALL the other upsells, donations and round ups I was asked for. The basket of toys was right there and it was only a few more words to say "you qualify for today's promotion- do you want a free toy?" That would have gone a long way with your customer service after me spending hundreds of dollars here every month. I didn't see it until I was walking out the cashier is like oop you missed out. WITAF. Not cool. I come here because it's super close and I don't have time to run all over town to get my pet supplies and grooming. I will be switching to delivery for supplies and food but I hope they get this place cleaned up. There's random dog foods on the floor that my dogs enjoyed as we walked through the isles. No idea what kind or how long it had been there but this also shouldn't be the case. read more

I have been taking my dog here for many years. He loved almost all of the groomers, and they took very good care of him. I guess something in the organization changed in the last year because none of our favorite groomers are there any longer and I do not like the work of the latest groomer we had. I am now taking my dog to a more professional, personalized groomer, since PetSmart seems to have become a grooming factory. read more

I went to PetSmart to get my daughter her first fish, and the associate was very unhelpful. Instead of guiding us, she told us not to get a fish since we chose a bowl instead of a tank, even though PetSmart sells bowls. She didn't explain what we needed, didn't suggest water conditioner, and basically just said the fish would die. Sadly, without the right supplies, it did. We later went to Petco, where the staff were friendly, explained everything, and made sure we had what we needed. I won't be returning to PetSmart. read more

I specifically told the people I did not want my dogs hair shaved I knew they needed to shave her chest due to some matting fur. I said do not touch her face or the rest of her body. They said they would take half an inch off and I said that was fine, as long as you keep her hair long. When I picked my dog up I could not even recognize her. I started to cry. It is horrible when I talk to her groomer she said well I thought that's what you said but my manager told me to use that half inch blade. That is not what I understood. I said more than once do not shave my dog and leave her hair long . over and over I said this. Even her specific groomer said she wondered when she was told to use the shorter blade. Come on guys! You love your pets. All of them. They keep us sane. You need Petsmart, their services and supplies. They are stocked with what you need. They have pet adoption events and dog training. They have most pets (except koalas and giraffes and seahorses, haha, lol). They offer curbside pick up and shipping. They have discounted items, coupons and a point system on the app for extra savings. They are courteous, hard working and friendly. My 2 cents are: First of all, they obviously did something right to inspire me to want to get a part time job there, if I could- and I don't need one at that. Secondly, their customer service, like the clerks at the registers, and management and the stockers are knowledgeable and 'cheery.' The fact of the matter, they do a great job because they care. UPDATE: We received a call from corporate confirming that there is no store policy about certain times you can buy pets or certain associates that can handle pets. They gave us 50% off the hamster my daughter wanted. Bummer that we came up against all of this just for a $22 pet. Original post: I'll start by saying I have always loved PetSmart better than other retail pet stores, and it is my go to place for the literal zoo at my home. But this one on Gartrell Rd, I would give it a half star or zero stars if I could. Bottom line: we were told 2 different reasons why we couldn't buy a hamster at a certain time before closing, so something clearly is fishy (no pun intended). First the cashier told us that the manager whom she had asked said there wasn't enough time to do a live animal sale. At this point it was about 20 min before closing (although we had been there for about 20 min and had waited at the register to ask for help), so all things considered I was annoyed but willing to say oh well. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I also know how things are in retail when you're trying to close up and associates typically don't want to give amazing assistance at that point in the day. The cashier was super nice, but her asking me to come first thing in the morning clearly showed her lack of perspective...that many people work during the day and shop evenings when we can. When we left, I noticed the manager himself was outside collecting carts. I asked him about the situation and told him we were very disappointed. His response was first to blame us for being there now 15 min before closing (which was clearly his first priority). Then he told us that the "special associates" that sell live animals typically leave by 7 or 7:30. I told him that really needed to be advertised because people come to the store to buy live animals during their advertised business hours. I also am shocked that a manager doesn't know how to do all the jobs in the store. The clear priority in his mind was closing up the store rather than giving assistance to us. I have bought many animals over my 22 yrs as a mom, and I know the process isn't that complicated. We specifically went over with the groomer about the cut we wanted and to not use the shaver and use scissors only. We asked for a 1" length cut and not make the eyes sunken, again by using a shaver. She completely ignore it and my dog has sad eyes and a completely bald backend. Poor management and bad groomers - do not go there read more

Took my 6 year old son to pick a new tank to upgrade his geckos cage. And once we selected one, I asked the associate to assist it with bringing it down from the shelf, only for him to say, "sorry, but this is no longer on sale, it ended yesterday. I can still bring it down if you want. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!" Very disappointing for the experience and my son's sadness that we didn't end up getting it. I don't know where to begin...,A month ago or so I had an appointment to have my dog Titan bathed and de shed... After several hours I got a call saying that he was panicking and didnt want a bath and to come get him.... why did my dog sit in a kennel for hours before being touched???? So many weeks ago I thought Ill give them another chance (afterall I had been going to this grooming salon for years) so I made an appointment for Bruiser (my other dog that is a senior. I had had issues with Brittany before doing a terrible job and have had to take him back to have it corrected. So I made the appointment with Madisen. I got Bruiser in the car which is a very lengthy process because he is 11... and my phone rang... 25 minutes before our appointment... I was told Madisen called in sick and they had to cancel the appointment. I was very frustrated and hung up. I called back to speak to a manager and Madisen answered the phone... that made me very upset... I was lied to ... she was there after all so why is my appointment being canceled? I spoke to Hunter and after offering an appointment next week I told her that was not acceptable... She said they found an opening at the same time as my appointment so bring him in, We got there and checked him in... went over that he needs a brush, nail trim, brush and potty patch clean up. This is the same service he has had close to 10 times there before. I got a call from Brittnay at 6 pm (2 hours after dropping him off)... she said he doesnt want a bath and to come get him ... my response was... What dog does? I advised her this is why he is there and Im unable to do it at home. I assured her he will be ok and she can even send him home wet and Ill brush him... he just needs a bath. She called me back 15 minutes later and said its not going to work out... that she almost threw out her back and he did not a bath. She said she trimmed his potty patch and come to get him. We went to pick him up and I was told there was no charge as they couldnt do any of the services. I gave her $10 for her effort and we left. I did not inspect him right there. As we walked to the car I overheard a customer go... OH MY GOD... so I looked at his back side and let some very explicit words slip... Brittnay decided to take her frustration out on my dog... She shaved him to the SKIN... his WHOLE backside... I was livid. I need this to be addressed. My poor dog... It is NOT GOOD to shave a Great Pyrenees to the skin. She may be in the wrong field. How dare her do this to my dog out of spite. . Not only did she shave him to the skin... there are parches of hair and some long pieces... I have no idea how someone else is going to fix this HUGE MESS I will not be using this service EVER for my dogs again and I will be sure my friends and family do not either. Do not take your pet here to get groomed. They have zero regard for you as the customer or more importantly your dog. I own a giant breed with a double coat and anyone that is a dog groomer by trade should know that a double coated dog should not be shaved for any reason except medical necessity. In addition we said he was not to be shaved for any reason and they said that they wouldn't shave him, only trim him. When he was picked up Alyssa had completely shaved my entire dog. The only hair he had left was on his face. He was covered in cuts and skin abrasions from the shaver. When called out for why they shaved him when told he wasn't to be shaved, the groomers response was "he had mats and that was the best course of action" before they bolted from the store. They didn't call and talk to us at all before deciding to shave my dog. Double coated dogs use their hair to regulate temperature and now my dog will be unable to do that in the hottest part of the summer. Alyssa destroyed my dogs summer because he can no longer spend as much time outside till the hair grows back. In addition, they had my dog for over four hours and I do not think they gave him any water in that time, on a 98 degree day. He came home and drank a ton of water like he hadn't seen water in days. I will NEVER take my dog back here for any reason. I will not put him in the hands of anyone with so little regard for his well being again. I am horrified and fight back tears every time i look at my bald baby boy. read more

I have been bringing my dog here for 3 years, never had an issue until today. my maltese of 3 years has had a cough do to a collapsed trachea, which is also annotated in her pet profile. For so.e reason, the inexperienced groomer was scared of the cough and made up a story saying my dog was gasping for air!!!! it was just a cough, same one she has had for years. I called to speak with Kim, and she was extremely rude and refused to rebook dog or reschedule appt. My husband took both of our dogs in and I don't even know what to say. We asked for a teddy bear cut for our puppy which they let us know they might not be able to fully get done since it was her first time. It doesn't even look like they attempted to trim her body. Her poor little face looks really weird; they unevenly cut around her nose and eyes but left her head and neck untouched, which let's just say isn't a good look unless neck beards are your thing. Now, I get that stuff happens but they still charged over $120 for both dogs when they didn't do what we asked, or even come close. She's just as shaggy as before except now she doesn't have her cute fluffy face to match. The other girl just got a shampoo and nail trim, so not sure how they came up with that charge but, yikes. Seems pretty off and super unethical to charge up the wazoo for a job you aren't equipped to do and/or don't even try. We wanted the girls to look nice for family coming into town. Very, very disappointed. Looks like I'll be doing home cuts cause I'm definitely not taking the girls back. You go to professionals because they're supposed to be trained and equipped. If I wanted my dog to look hideous I would have buzzed her myself and saved the $120. My husband and I usually read reviews before we try anywhere out for really anything. We've always had good experiences with PetSmart in general so we didn't even think twice. Man, I wish I'd read reviews because it seems like the grooming department gets consistently terrible feedback. What a shame PetSmart doesn't take more pride in their product or employee better trained staff. Won't be back. Update: our tiny one came home with her collar on so I didn't initially notice. This is our go-to Petsmart. The location is convenient if you live off E-470. We get all our supplies here for the furrier side of the family and we have used their grooming services several times for our dogs too. They let you walk in and get their nails trimmed and give them a good brushing - prices are extremely reasonable. My only complaint is there is no Banfield on-site at this location. i bought a few fish from this store. In a matter of less then 2 days the fish started to die. It is also currently taking out the rest of my well established tank. I have lost 10 fish in total So far. Took back the dead fish I bought from th'em. Tried explaining to them the should look into there fish sales. They seemed very cold and calloused they herded me out the door like I was cattle. FYI their tanks look horrible. That should have been my first clue. So ... in preparing for our two new new puppies we spent a small fortune at the PetSmart in HR. A week later while at the Petsmart on Gartrell the cashier asked if I had puppy books- when I said no, she looked up my previous receipt, voided it and rerang the entire purchase with the puppy book coupons. It took about 20 minutes if her time but saved us so much money! This was so impressive because had she not asked about the puppy books I would have never even known they existed- with her generous help, we were refunded the money and continue to save ever time we visit! Of course I can't recall her name- but she should be employee of the month for all the time she spent re creating a huge receipt just to help us out! Also this is the cleanest freshest smelling Petsmart around! read more

To All Who Shop At Petsmart... A WARNING!!! DO NOT under any condition buy fish from Petsmart. We bought 2 silver tip sharks from the Petsmart here in Denver. We didn't know it but they had ICK. They died but in the meantime infected my whole 55 gallon tank. My Bala Shark which we've had for over 6 years and who was almost 5 inches long just died from ick this afternoon. Petsmart DOES NOT take care of their fish and they are diseased.Their employees don't take care of their fish and just don't care. I'm letting everyone know on social media NOT to buy fish from them. I have to admit: I'm more a Petco person, but I'm really glad I got our Westie groomed here... He looks AMAZING. After reading the other reviews, I decided I wouldn't mess around with our scrappy pup's fur... he's VERY prideful, you see. I didn't have to worry at all here. The grooming salon staff are all nice, and the lady who was our Leo's groomer did a fantastic job--she asked how I wanted his fur cut, so I showed her some pictures, and when I came back a few hours later, he looked like a show dog! After I had paid up front for the services (and the cashier gave Leo a treat... how sweet!), I realized that his tail looked a little funny, so I went back to the salon and asked if she could quickly trim his tail so that it looked uniform with the rest of his fur. Though the salon was pretty bumpin', she was very agreeable, and took off the rest of the fuzziness on his tail in two shakes--fast, friendly service! They really do want to make sure that you're happy with how your animal looks. I'll definitely be back again... big, clean, and full of fellow animal lovers. I usually do my pet shopping at petco because I like their rewards program, but I'm here to write a review about the dog trainer at this petsmart location! Her name is Kat and I saw a review here saying that she is pushy... yes, she is pushy! the first time I went into the store my puppy was pulling and being a bit of a nightmare. She talked to me and told me about her training classes and I admit I was kind of like "yeah yeah lady" I had been doing all of our training at home and it was going pretty well. Eventually our training kind of came to a halt. I think both me and my dog lost motivation and for the life of me I couldn't get her to walk on a loose leash! Finally I made an appointment with Kat to have my dog seen to determine what class she should go into. We decided on beginner classes even though she knew the commands, she was unreliable anywhere but home. Guess what? After our first lesson Sadie is walking on a loose leash!! The one thing I absolutely could not accomplish! all it took was a little guidance and I wish I had gotten around to it sooner! Kat is no nonsense and passionate about dogs and proper training which maybe rubs people the wrong way. She is 100% positive reinforcement which I love, none of that dominance crap. Anyways, if you're like me, put your pride on the back burner and get your damn dog into some obedience classes! I signed up for beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes and got a deal (about 60 dollars savings) and once Sadie finishes advanced Kat is a registered Canine Good Citizen tester which I plan on doing. Been here twice already and love the store and the staff! Both times it was very clean and welcoming. Store has been open for, I think almost 4 years and feels brand new! Took my dog for her first groom ever and they were so nice. They explained the different options and procedures very well. This is a great store really. It is never busy and the staff here are really nice to me whenever I come in. The groomers are what I have an issue with. It really is a throw up every time I come in and get my two dogs groomed. One is a Shih-Tzu and the other is a Yorkie. My Shih-Tzu is fine getting groomed and they always say she is a doll but they never cut her right. We always get the seven razor so it's short but they always leave her patchy and they never do a teddy bear face like I want for either. My Yorkie is a whole other problem. She gets really skittish and scared but is a sweetie. They always say she was uncooperative and was too scared for them to groom her. Okay, I get it but don't leave my dog half groomed and make me pay the entire amount for the terrible groom job you did on my dog. I wish I had taken a picture because it really was an atrocious job. Other times I will pick the both of them up and they will still smell like they did when I dropped them off. Then they tell me they washed them when they most definitely did not. It is only this store too. I haven't had this issue at any other stores with the grooming salon. read more

We decided to order & pay online this morning ( 1st time ever) realized there was no eta for when the order would be ready. I called the store & Jason promptly answered. I explained that I just placed an order but I didn't know when to expect to to be ready as there was nothing on the website that explained the fulfillment process, keep in mind that I never told him my name or what the order was for. Store manager rude - Pet Smart. When wife completed purchase of two items, there was only one checkout line open and one customer in the entire store. She left and noted her purse was missing, so she called back and politely asked the manager to have a look in the cart area and in the empty parking lot. He rudely refused claiming he was too busy and had too many customers. Later, he did find the purse. Husband accompanied wife back to store to express grave concern about manager's rudeness on the phone and husband indicated that it would have taken 30 seconds - he timed it - to do a quick check of cart area and parking lot. While his story changed about his responsibility to look in the parking lot, we were insulted by a condescending comment from a blond 20-something [?] clerk who said, "Why can't we all be adults about this." She claimed she was not present during the situation, had no idea what was in the purse, and yet felt compelled to make an inappropriate comment to people about three times her age and experience. We were there for 25 minutes with a terse discussion. There were no other customers in the store during this entire time. The weather was bad and I seriously doubt that at the moment my wife called back begging for someone to check for her purse, that a large group of people magically appeared in the store and filled up all four checkouts as stated by the manager. Certainly an unusual confluence of coincidences that such a cohort of customers would appear at just that moment! Strangely, only one employee of the four huddled during this complaint noted he was present when the manager supposedly asked staff to look for the purse - he admitted he was not asked by the manager. The other two employees present claimed not to have been at work during this situation and therefore were not present during the request. My wife does not get riled up easily, but she came home shaking after her encounter with the manager. Yes, when I was there the manager apologized and claimed he apologized when the purse was found and handed back. I have an issue with rudeness and or laziness. I would shop elsewhere where customers are treated with respect. read more

I liked this PetSmart until the trainer with the short boy hair cut and glasses kept following us and kept being rude in regards to her stupid training classes. Yea, that's NEVER going to happen especially with your rude and annoying ass. Furthermore, the comments she makes when she goes up to you in order to get your dog into her training classes are ill mannered and it's not working. If anything it pisses people off. Besides that, the rest of the staff there is so far friendly and helpful. I took my pup to the groomers and they were ok... Not so friendly. read more

This Pet Smart location is a disaster and from the looks of how eerily quiet the store always is it will probably close soon.
