This evening 3/23 I was visiting my favorite pet store to purchase the healthy pet kitchen and some toys for my puppy. I've been coming here for years and have had nothing but great service. This evening, a gentleman by the name of Sean was checking me out. I spent over $100 and he asked me if I wanted to purchase a $.10 bag. I agreed and he proceeded to tell me that the bags were very cheap. The bag instantly ripped right in front of him and I asked if he could put the goods into a new bag and he proceeded to tell me that he could not because the owners were very cheap and he would get in trouble so I had to walk out with over $100 worth of stuff in my hands while holding four frozen bags of food. This is not about the $.10 bag. It's the principal that he was not willing to help me over something he knew was cheap and cost pennies. Do we not teach good customer service anymore? This is sad because I really enjoy going there but now I may have to drive to the Laguna Niguel location. read more

Staff really know their products. Really knowledgeable about the contents in cat and dog food and other pet supplies.. they carry all the top brand food available online and not in most other pet stores, including a very large dehydrated and raw balanced diets. They also have cat adoptions at their San Clemente store, 416 E Avenida Pico every Saturday from 12 to 3 PM. She gives excellent customer service, recommendations that actually work and is always there to greet me and my pup. It is so hard to find quality people these days. Wow- since Tom the manager left about two years ago, the service is lacking. Today I went in looking for a replacement dog collar and was going to buy about $500 worth of items. I was by myself. A large group pf six plus a dog decided to stand near me and ask the manager to assist them. It would have been nice for me to finish my task. Nope! The manager decided to take the space that I was using (no, excuse me, may I help you?" Or, did you find what you were looking for? ) and allow the group to look over the merchandise as if I did not exist. I waited to see if or how much service he would give me. I waited five minutes. Nope, along with answering that large group's questions and answering the phone my "place" in line was nonexistent. It should be noted that he looked right at me and knew that I was waiting. Talk about devalued. I left with a disgusted look on my face. Whites only served - Asians not so much. That's ok. I won't ever set foot in here again. This location is in between KFC and Starbucks, in the corner of Del Obispo and Camino Capistrano. I always have a great experience whenever I go to a Pets Plus location. They're always helpful and friendly. The store is always clean and organized. They have brands that Petco and Petsmart don't carry, which for my dog is very important. Her stomach can only handle Earth Born food. It's the only food that works for her. She is sensitive to several ingredients in a lot of dog foods and can have severe diarrhea, shedding, and rashes if she doesn't get the right food. But with Earth Born, she has normal BM, her coat is shiny, her eyes are clear, and she has tremendous amount of energy. I also shopped for fish supplies at Pets Plus before. Although their fish department isn't as huge as the corporate pet stores, they still have all the basics. At least, for my betta fish. Not sure for any other type of fish. I'd like to note that their rabbits and birds seem to be well taken care of, especially at this location. The animals were in clean containment places and their food looked fresh. Their animals didn't seem stressed or unhappy. My favorite thing about Pets Plus is the service they have on some weekends. It's Mobile Pet Care or Vet Care Pet Clinic. I think they're the same. I wish I knew about them sooner because I've spent a lot of money just for routine care for my dog. I would have saved so much money to spend on my college books instead. Anyway, they have a fantastic staff. They're always so nice and professional. They never upsell me anything and they always answer my questions. I've been taking my dog to them since I found them. All the vets in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano charge so much just to vaccinate my dog. The last time I went to my regular vet, we were charged $300 just for a check up, a fecal test, and a 6 month supply of deworming treatment. Vet Care charges about $100 for a 6 month supply of deworming treatment depending on what your dog weighs and $35 for a fecal test. That's a huge difference. I'd rather pay $135 than $300. And I've always been able to talk to the vet at Vet Care Pet Clinic about any concerns. Although if you are there for a physical exam, it's $25 (compared to the $65 vets around the area). While on a routine mission to SJC1, the landing party has become surrounded by natives during their celebration of a small avian creature that returns during every Vernal Equinox. It was quite obvious the indigenous population was going to sacrifice ... several hours of our precious time in observance of this fowl day! Pets Plus is a small California chain with 8 locations throughout Southern California, going as far north as Torrance and as far south as Escondido. The chain has over 80,000 items in their data base. They carry a wide selection of products for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles and other small animals. With Kaya occupied, I started walking around the store to see what they had which would hold her over until we could get home. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful during our visit. We told them our situation and specifically how cranky Kaya was going to get (93 lbs. Cranky Malamute = Bad Thing) because her feeding schedule was being thrown off. They asked what kind of dog food she eats and I told them they carried her favorite food: Taste of the Wild Wetlands - Roasted Wild Fowl. One of the workers went to the back and returned with three sample packs of Kaya's food and a small plastic bowl to put it in. I really appreciated the kind gesture and they even invited us to come back and hang out if the crowds or heat became too much for Kaya. Rohlinism: What one person perceives as a small act of kindness may be a huge blessing to someone else! I wish I would have asked the names of the two workers who helped us out of a tight spot, because they definitely deserved praise for their kindness. Without their assistance, we would have most likely been forced to either starve Kaya until the parade was over (not fun!) or fed her large amounts of human food (not fun to pick up after). If this place wasn't so far away and if I wasn't already a loyal member of another mom and pop pet supply, they would have won my business for life. However, I do plan on returning to their store in the near future and giving them some business because of the outstanding customer service. If you have a pet and are in the San Juan Capistrano area, give this shop a try and I think you will be a loyal customer for life! read more

I went into Pets Plus yesterday with a rescue dog I had just picked up from the shelter. I needed to find him a harness and buy some dog food. The girls were really friendly and showed me what was available and then offered to put the harness on. Henry, the rescue dog, is a 2 year old 78lb labrador mix. When you get down to his level he wants to lick and paw you to death. It took me, the 2 girls, and 1 guy to get the harness on. It was pretty funny. I got some dog food and they gave Henry some water before we left. I got what I needed and we all got a workout and a laugh. read more

I just got a new puppy, and the people that I got her from recommended iams dog food. My puppy would not eat it and she barely ate anything for three days, so I went in and Sam helped me, and recommended a food specifically for my puppies breed which is also similar to my big dogs breed. I got home and I gave my little Bella her food and she ate the whole thing! And my big dog Buster he liked the food as well. Sam was so helpful to me and made many suggestions that are beneficial to helping me raise my puppy and I am so grateful that she works there! We have had a dog for about 2 yrs. We originally went to Russo's because it was closer. I recently bought a $16 bag of treats and was told I could not return them if the dog didn't like them. Pets plus is the opposite!! Take anything back and they will give you credit. We recently switched our dog to no grain food and they took back what we had left of the old food.
