I've been going to this shop for years, since they were in San Clemente, and have never had a bad experience! I go for the feeder rats/mice which are reasonable priced. But they also have a good assortment of reptiles in the shop, which are also reasonably priced. Every time I'm there, I briefly check out all the reptiles, and I say 'briefly' because with all the COVID restrictions, I think you're not allowed to linger around for too long. All in all, it's a decent shop, reasonable prices, plus the owner is a really cool guy, so that's an added bonus. It feels good to support a small business, especially during these times. read more

I have four reptile's of my own and recently got into owning them. I'm by no means an expert, but when I walked in and saw the care and conditions these animals were living in my jaw dropped. Basically every animal had magazines instead of substrate, not only that but none of them had proper heating and lighting. Barely any of them had hides. He had 6 leopard geckos in one small enclosure. When I asked to see them, I noticed one was missing the tip of his tail and one was missing nearly the whole thing. His response was "oh must've gotten nipped by another one". Leopard geckos are solitary animals... Half the bearded dragons were glass surfing (obvious indicator of stress). These animals deserve so much better, it was horrifying. I've literally seen petsmart treat their animals better, which is an incredibly low bar. I have absolutely no idea how this place doesn't have worse reviews, anyone who takes good care of their reptiles would be appalled. I've never in my life felt the need to go online and post a review until today, that's how concerning it was. read more

We are celebrating our 1 month anniversary with our baby bearded dragon, Leo! After 30+ years of having dogs, we decided on a bearded dragon. I haven't even been here yet and I love Pete! I have been shopping for months to find the perfect chameleon as a gift and they're either way too expensive (someone wanted $500) or on backorder till June/July. I found Reptropolis online and called Pete. He had ONE male chameleon - the breed n color I wanted - and he sold it to me over the phone! He had several people in the store so he had to call me back several hours later, but he followed through and explained a lot about chameleons to me. Not only that, he sent me a picture of my new lil guy to my cellphone, and a pix of my receipt. He also is housing it for me until I can pick it up!! Thank you!!! 5/6/2020 Picked up my lil guy. I buy frozen mice from this place about once a month. My snake's tank, substrate, heat lamps, and decorations were also bought here. They carry a broad range of products even for a small shop and it's all reasonably priced; it's very convenient and I love to support a small local business as opposed to larger corporations. Do you like reptiles as pets? I don't. I hate snakes, I don't like iguanas, I really have no business here. I was warned that there would be snakes and such inside this store. With one foot inside the store cuz of J calling me and one foot outside cuz of the smell of amphibian poo, I finally decided to go in to check this place out. Inside in front of me, there was a very tame and dormant iguana lying on the floor. I thought it was a plastic decoration until i saw it breathe. I even petted the darn thing. It was cool but I still wouldn't want one as a pet. The turtles were fun to watch. I'd build a pond for them to swim in if I had the money. J's bro needed mice for snake feed so he bought 3 of them at $1.50 each + OC sales tax. They were delivered to us in a paper bag much like a lunch sack. The three soon-to-be blind/dead mice were scratching the bag for the entire car ride home. I wasn't sure if they'd be smart enough to eat through the bag but I was sure sad for these mice. Imagine holding some helpless creature's life in your hands that you know will end ugly by some devious snake. I couldn't take it. I don't know why people can't just feed their snakes with microwaved food. I understand that snakes need their food to be warm to know it's there but wouldn't some warmed up leftover bbq taste better than some poor little mouse? read more

Purchased a Crested Gecko from here back in February. The gecko is doing great (he has dropped his tail since I purchased him but that is obviously my own fault) and eats well and I believe it is because they gave him a great start on life. I bought my son two leopard geckos from "a local pet store chain". And I had some suspicions that at least one of the geckos was sick. So I went to this shop and thinking I could get general suggestions. I had questions regarding the appropriate terrarium, diet, overall health and suggestions. Because the local pet store associates weren't experts and giving me iffy advice. So I go here and spoke to a man who worked there. Very nice guy. And told him the story. He asked me if I could bring the geckos in so he could see them. I go home and bring the geckos. And I believe his wife examined them. Just as a disclosure they aren't vets and I wasn't asking them to diagnose but give me suggestions. I've never had a leopard geckos and eve with all my research I still felt a little incompetent. It just seems like the reptile community differs on their leopard gecko advice. Anyway they suggested I have the gecko examined by an reptile expert vet. I bought an appropriate terrarium with appropriate supplies from them. They were honest, caring and very down to earth. They have a lot wealth of knowledge, customer service is awesome, cool reptiles (not for the faint of heart FYI). So if you are in the market to adopt a reptile, come here because they are honest, caring and knowledgeable. read more

Talk about great service! I found this store when we were searching for a Panther chameleon by contacting places using Yelp messaging. Pete at Reptropolis was very responsive, knowledgeable, and friendly...plus his prices were great. Even more impressive were the reptiles and their habitats in his shop. The cages were clean and the animals appeared friendly, not skittish in the least. We've had other chameleons through the years, but none nearly as social. A locally run reptile store that sells pets as well as supplies and live food. I am a loyal customer who buys crickets and worms here for my chameleons weekly and I have to say price wise, this is definitely the best deal. PetSmart and Petco are about 30 - 50% more expensive for crickets! And at Reptropolis they give you a little more than what you ask, and don't try to short you any crickets like they do at Petsmart a lot. But it's more than just saving money, I enjoy supporting the business of the couple who runs the store. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about pretty much any reptile you throw their way. Their new location in Dana Point is much more spacious so they will have a wider selection of pets to sell. I always enjoying watching their new babies grow and develop every time I come in. If you have any type of bug, snake, lizard, arachnid or other reptile like creature this is the place to go! I've been shopping here for only a few years but I will not go anywhere else. I have a huge soft spot for reptiles and I hate seeing them in the major pet stores because nobody properly takes care of them. Here they are very well taken care of. The owner is a way awesome guy who loves his job which is cool to see. There is every kind of creature in the shop as well as every kind of food item. I come here for mice for my snakes and cockroaches and crickets for my Pacman frogs. Can't recommend this place enough for your reptile needs.
