i get a good amount of my supplies here for my beardie, hognose, & leachie! this place never disappoints :) my most recent experience i went in to get some branches & the owner was able to cut them to fit my enclosure perfectly! super awesome thanks again! here's a picture of those cut branches

I love this store! They sell everything you need for your scaly buddies. The employee is also very friendly and open to any questions you might have. I bought a baby ball python here, and I will keep returning for everything he needs. The prices are fair, and a bit lower than the big brand stores. This place is awesome!!

I haven't even been here yet and I love Pete! I have been shopping for months to find the perfect chameleon as a gift and they're either way too expensive (someone wanted $500) or on backorder till June/July. I found Reptropolis online and called Pete. He had ONE male chameleon - the breed n color I wanted - and he sold it to me over the phone! He had several people in the store so he had to call me back several hours later, but he followed through and explained a lot about chameleons to me. Not only that, he sent me a picture of my new lil guy to my cellphone, and a pix of my receipt. He also is housing it for me until I can pick it up!! Thank you!!! 5/6/2020 Picked up my lil guy. Pete was very chill and approachable. He even threw in a few items we needed for free. He actually got a lil busy while I was there so I just hung out. He has an amazing assortment of reptiles to look at and they all look healthy, happy and well-fed. This warms my heart and definitely means I will be back to see Pete for my next new buddy when the time is right!!!

Stopped by to pick up a bearded dragon for my son. A beautiful and very friendly four foot iguana nodded to us as we walked through the door. They have a great selection of healthy pets to choose from. Service was excellent, very helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. I'll be back again.

I've been coming here since I was little when they were located in San Clemente, probably over 10 years now. I bought a California kingsnake from here, which I've owned for about 4 years. I buy frozen mice from this place about once a month. My snake's tank, substrate, heat lamps, and decorations were also bought here. They carry a broad range of products even for a small shop and it's all reasonably priced; it's very convenient and I love to support a small local business as opposed to larger corporations. Be sure to check out this spot before you go shop at PetSmart down the street. The owner is really nice and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a pet reptile, Reptropolis is 100% the place to go!

Reptropolis is your nearest local reptile store, decked out in some outstanding artwork painted by a local artist. If that isn't enough to bring you into this immaculate store, then perhaps it being completely, well-stocked with light fixtures and food for your reptiles, plus the amicable service that is provided by Pete who is competent and well-informed about anything in regards to reptiles. Pete is friendly and happy to assist anyone with any of their reptile needs while they are at Reptropolis. Parking is located conveniently in the back of the storefront. From calcium to crickets this reptile store has just about everything one requires to care for a reptile. I brought in my Sulcata Torotise for Pete to take a look, I hadn't called in or anything, and he was happy to help me figure out the gender of my giant Sulcata. Reptile cages here are present with a mulititude of different sorts of reptiles at a decent price. The reptile's cages are extremely tidy and clean, the reptiles appear to be well cared for.

Reptropolis is amazing ! This is the only place we go to for our reptile needs ...we have 2 bearded dragons and a chameleon ...Pete is so knowledgeable and helps us every time we have a question or a concern. Do you like reptiles as pets? I don't. I hate snakes, I don't like iguanas, I really have no business here. I was warned that there would be snakes and such inside this store. With one foot inside the store cuz of J calling me and one foot outside cuz of the smell of amphibian poo, I finally decided to go in to check this place out. Inside in front of me, there was a very tame and dormant iguana lying on the floor. I thought it was a plastic decoration until i saw it breathe. I even petted the darn thing. It was cool but I still wouldn't want one as a pet. The turtles were fun to watch. I'd build a pond for them to swim in if I had the money. J's bro needed mice for snake feed so he bought 3 of them at $1.50 each + OC sales tax. They were delivered to us in a paper bag much like a lunch sack. The three soon-to-be blind/dead mice were scratching the bag for the entire car ride home. I wasn't sure if they'd be smart enough to eat through the bag but I was sure sad for these mice. Imagine holding some helpless creature's life in your hands that you know will end ugly by some devious snake. I couldn't take it. I don't know why people can't just feed their snakes with microwaved food. I understand that snakes need their food to be warm to know it's there but wouldn't some warmed up leftover bbq taste better than some poor little mouse?

My kids used to love and look at all the interesting reptiles. Then one day one of the bearded dragons called out to us "Take me home!". That was the day we became one of those weird reptile loving families. We like to thank and give a huge thumbs up to Reptropolis! Never any pressure and always helpful when we can't figure out what is "wrong" with our Lizard. We love the family vibe at this small local reptile store.

Purchased a Crested Gecko from here back in February. The gecko is doing great (he has dropped his tail since I purchased him but that is obviously my own fault) and eats well and I believe it is because they gave him a great start on life. All the reptiles at this store are well cared for and are clearly very active and healthy. I also appreciated that at checkout the owners gave me a small quiz/checklist to make sure I had all the needed things to care for my gecko :)

Not Just For Kids! Although bearded dragons are great for kids (helping them learn about responsibility, patience, and care) they are also fabulous for people who are retired! We are celebrating our 1 month anniversary with our baby bearded dragon, Leo! After 30+ years of having dogs, we decided on a bearded dragon. My husband is now retired and enjoying the fun interactions with Leo...and the beautiful terrarium he helped to create. Leo responds to his name, knows when it is feeding time, and loves to cuddle. We highly recommend considering a bearded dragon if you are retired or just around the corner to retirement (like me) :) Talk to Pete about the proper set up and preparation to bring your bundle of baby bearded dragon joy home! read more

I've been going to this shop for years, since they were in San Clemente, and have never had a bad experience! I go for the feeder rats/mice which are reasonable priced. But they also have a good assortment of reptiles in the shop, which are also reasonably priced. Every time I'm there, I briefly check out all the reptiles, and I say 'briefly' because with all the COVID restrictions, I think you're not allowed to linger around for too long. All in all, it's a decent shop, reasonable prices, plus the owner is a really cool guy, so that's an added bonus. It feels good to support a small business, especially during these times. read more

This place is awesome! I purchased a ball python along with all the stuff you would need to successfully keep it. This place has great prices, cool reptiles who are greatly taken care of, awesome owner who is knowledgeable and overall cool guy and CLEAN environment!!! My first time here I bought a hypo normal beardie who is doing awesome and is very active and playful. I also bought a Melamine enclosure here fully set up. Thanks Pete!! The staff has is so knowledgeable here! I have 3 leopard geckos, and this is our only spot for crickets and mealworms, I refuse to go to petco as I like to keep my money spent local! The people who work here are friendly and passionate about reptiles! They have a huge selection that can meet the needs of a hobby to a pro breeder! I always look forward to my weekly trip, not to mention the awesome artwork and atmosphere, thank you reptroplolis!!!! -gecko man read more

Mehhhh. We've come to this place twice and it's not exactly close for us. Customer service was lacking and the owner seems like he really didn't want to be bothered. He didn't seem like he really was interested in helping us or selling anything. read more

I have been going to Retropolis for 5 years to purchase assorted items for my bearded dragon. I recently purchased another beardie from them and couldn't be happier. My beardie is so tame and healthy! The owners take such great care of their reptiles and are so helpful and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Retropolis! read more

I bought my son two leopard geckos from "a local pet store chain". And I had some suspicions that at least one of the geckos was sick. So I went to this shop and thinking I could get general suggestions. I had questions regarding the appropriate terrarium, diet, overall health and suggestions. Because the local pet store associates weren't experts and giving me iffy advice. So I go here and spoke to a man who worked there. Very nice guy. And told him the story. He asked me if I could bring the geckos in so he could see them. I go home and bring the geckos. And I believe his wife examined them. Just as a disclosure they aren't vets and I wasn't asking them to diagnose but give me suggestions. I've never had a leopard geckos and eve with all my research I still felt a little incompetent. It just seems like the reptile community differs on their leopard gecko advice. Anyway they suggested I have the gecko examined by an reptile expert vet. I bought an appropriate terrarium with appropriate supplies from them. They were honest, caring and very down to earth. They have a lot wealth of knowledge, customer service is awesome, cool reptiles (not for the faint of heart FYI). So if you are in the market to adopt a reptile, come here because they are honest, caring and knowledgeable. read more

Pete is by far the best guy to go see for reptiles and supplies! Went in for my first time yesterday and left with two of the most beautiful beardies ive ever seen! Top of the line service and you can tell how well the animals are taken care of! As soon as I got home they started playing with me! I used to go to the location in San Clemente where they had a lot more variety of reptiles, for me that is. Nice and clean location with good products though. I'll keep them in mind if I want to add to my frog family. read more

Nothing but great things to say here! Pete is very knowledgeable and a really nice guy. High quality animals and a good selection of products! You can tell Pete truly cares about his animals, and prioritizes customer service alongside proper care. When I go in for crickets, he even remembers how many/what size I need for each of my animals! Definitely my go-to shop for anything reptile related. read more

Talk about great service! I found this store when we were searching for a Panther chameleon by contacting places using Yelp messaging. Pete at Reptropolis was very responsive, knowledgeable, and friendly...plus his prices were great. Even more impressive were the reptiles and their habitats in his shop. The cages were clean and the animals appeared friendly, not skittish in the least. We've had other chameleons through the years, but none nearly as social. It's obvious Pete spent time acclimating him to people. So now it's official; Reptropolis is our family's go-to reptile store. You should do the same. read more

A locally run reptile store that sells pets as well as supplies and live food. I am a loyal customer who buys crickets and worms here for my chameleons weekly and I have to say price wise, this is definitely the best deal. PetSmart and Petco are about 30 - 50% more expensive for crickets! And at Reptropolis they give you a little more than what you ask, and don't try to short you any crickets like they do at Petsmart a lot. But it's more than just saving money, I enjoy supporting the business of the couple who runs the store. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about pretty much any reptile you throw their way. Their new location in Dana Point is much more spacious so they will have a wider selection of pets to sell. I always enjoying watching their new babies grow and develop every time I come in. If you have reptiles and need live food, definitely support Reptropolis! We need more places like this. read more

If you have any type of bug, snake, lizard, arachnid or other reptile like creature this is the place to go! I've been shopping here for only a few years but I will not go anywhere else. I have a huge soft spot for reptiles and I hate seeing them in the major pet stores because nobody properly takes care of them. Here they are very well taken care of. The owner is a way awesome guy who loves his job which is cool to see. There is every kind of creature in the shop as well as every kind of food item. I come here for mice for my snakes and cockroaches and crickets for my Pacman frogs. Can't recommend this place enough for your reptile needs. I actually live on the back end of Dana Point and I go out of my way past 6 different pet stores to come here! Customer for life. read more

We love Reptropolis! Americana business at its best. We get the "Mumbles Special" for our Beardy and the service is always top notch. Love is in the air, but be careful not to trip over free roaming Charlie the store watch lizard. read more

What a great store !! We took our two granddaughters on a Saturday and they loved it!! Excellent selection and displays, all clearly marked. The owner let our little one pet "Charlie" and she's still talking about it. He also was very informative and made our visit much more fun. Although I'm not a reptile person I found this a real learning experience and I appreciate the owner taking the time to answer and explain. We'll be back, if not to buy, at least to learn some more. read more

This reptile store is one of the best I've ever been in. My boyfriend and I love just coming in a couple of times a week and looking at all the amazing animals. We get our bearded dragons food here, and the prices are really good. Also, Pete is amazing! He has a ton of experience and is very knowledgeable. I recommend this place. read more

Well maintained store with a lot of cool animals. Had been here years ago when it was in another center and is slightly smaller now. quality is good and they didnt seem to mind our "window shopping". My fav - the teeny tiny chameleons. Adorable! Also we had some questions about our turtle and they were very nice about answering them. If in the area definately go in! read more

The owners here rock! I always come here for my crickets, and the store is well kept and there's a nice variety of reptiles for purchase. They have a large iguana that walks around and hangs out which is pretty cool. Crickets are cheap and healthy looking. read more

I normally order from SquarePet, but my delivery wasn't arriving until Tuesday and I needed to get his food sooner. When I called, Courtney answered and confirmed they had the food in shipment, but it hadn't been checked in yet. She kindly took my number and told me she would call once it was available. Within just a couple of hours, Courtney called me back to let me know the food was ready and even stated she will save the cans for me. I just bought it yesterday (4/27) and my cat has already eaten more than he usually does and I might need to make it over there again soon.

I told him i would pick up from San Diego (more than 100 miles of driving each way!!!) I did not pay yet and asked to change my CPDs to 3 otos. I told him i would like 6 habrosas, at least. When i drove up to santa ana (the next day), with an invoice of 6 habrosas there were only 4 in stock. I understand that Corys prefer larger groups. Had it been disclosed ahead of time that there were only 4 corys, i would not have driven up from SD to Santa ana and the INVOICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CANCELLED BY THE SELLER If there is not enough stock. There were not even enough otos as i requested. -This wastes my 3 hours of round trip driving (100+ miles) and gas to be short changed. ----------------- -i will have to report this to the BBB as well. -after speaking directly with Nolan, i will wait for his business to rectify this situation before i take additional actions. --------------- Edit on 12/2 after seller's response below: 1. 85 miles or 100 is an approximate. It is a trivial point given that it is a long distance drive from sd to santa ana. The crux of the matter is that you sold me 4 cories when you knew ahead of time i wanted 6. I acknowledge you are closed on Wednesday. You had employees in the shop anyway on Wednesday--they said they had to come in anyway to feed the fish for the long weekend whether i came or not. 2. The invoice i received is an automated email invoice. I can email it to you like. It has 6 cories written on it, not 4. And to your reply i am not looking for other cories, iam looking for the habrosas. 3. You knew i was there to pick up six (that is why the invoice that you personally emailed me stated 6 habrosas, which you wanted me to pay). So Eiither you or your employees did not take stock before you emailed me an invoice or you knew ahead of time that you did NOT have 6 and tried to sell me what you have. 4. The 4 habrosas and the oto cats have SEVERE red gills when they were pre-packed in bags upon my arrival. Either this is due high ammonia or red gills disease. I regret buying them. 5. A local fish store in san diego says it is bacterial and recommends medicine treatment. Since the day i picked them up They have been in medicinal treatment and it is nearly a week where the red gills have been present even with daily water changes and 0 ammonia.. I never had this experience with other local fish stores. 6 aside, i have received unsolicited yelp correspondence from your employee. Note i was courteous with your employees. They did not need to initiate any involvement in yelp which was not appreciated. 7. The only correspondence was that you would send 2 cories free of charge on monday and i would not take further action until we resolve this problem. 8. Please do not send the 2 cories, i am wary of the quality of care from your shop given the state of the cories and oto cats. Going forward I will not be ordering from this "guppy mill". And i will report this to the bbb and to other social media sites

Review for Grooming Department: Great team of groomers. I…read morebrought in my foster Asha for a bath. She somehow got into some motor oil and got it all over herself (luckily she didn't ingest any of it.) After multiple washes I had given her I decided to bring her into the grooming salon to get professionally cleaned. Lauren, Bart and there was a third person (sorry I didn't get his name!) They were the most helpful and was able to squeeze in Asha into their busy weekend schedule. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to get a lot of the oil off but they cleaned her up really good. They also followed up with a phone call and provided me with updates on the progress they had made. Thank you guys so much for taking such good care of Asha. She's now home and enjoying a well deserved nap.

7seas is a bit of a mixed bag for me. On the positive side, they have a really great selection of…read morefish and dry goods. Tanks, lights, filters, hardscape, supplies, you name it. They also clearly know what they're doing. The staff is knowledgeable and can answer questions without giving you that blank stare you sometimes get at other aquarium shops. But the pricing is honestly kind of shocking. A lot of their equipment is outrageously overpriced compared to what you can find online or even at other local stores. For example, I saw a UNS double valve connector selling for about $60 when the same thing is easily available online for around $20. They also had the Kessil 35° reflector priced at $50, and I've never seen those go for more than $30 or $35 anywhere else. I get that local fish stores have overhead and can't always compete with online pricing, and I'm totally fine paying a little more to support a brick and mortar shop. But some of these markups feel excessive. If you need something immediately and don't mind paying a premium, it's a solid store with good selection and knowledgeable staff. Just be prepared for some pretty steep prices on certain items. Overall I'd say it's worth visiting, but definitely price check before buying equipment.

With his help my fish seem to be responding and on the mend. I highly recommend Coast Gem for all your tropical freshwater fish needs. This is the last beacon of reptile hope in the area. All the other small reptile shops in this proximity have faded with time but Reptropolis is still standing, despite moving several times over the past 2 decades or so. If you need live rodent feeders in the cities such as Dana point, San Juan capo, lake forest, Laguna Niguel, mission viejo this is the only local spot I know of that remains. Hopefully this helps someone out that has a picky, rude, spiteful snake that refuses all frozen thawed foods. As far as the supplies it's fair priced and I know I've gotten substrate many times here. Also of course a good selection of reptiles but I don't think I've ever gotten any from here. They all look great and the owner breeds some species himself and you can tell they are loved. You couldn't go wrong getting an animal from here even though that's not why I show up. I hope this shop doesn't fade into legend. read more
