The manager at this location, I think her name was Issa, went above and beyond to help me get back my membership discount when she honestly didn't have to. What happened was the system forgot to load my membership litter discount in and I used up all my Vital Rewards coupons to make my purchase as I was purchasing litter for my kitty the day before. It seems the system does not give the owner back their Vital Rewards if you do a return. She didn't have to but she used her quick thinking and knowledge to make sure I would get my discounts. If you ask the staff to do anything other than ring you up at the register they are VERY difficult and sometimes won't even acknowledge you. There is something seriously wrong with the way this place is managed. I've now had multiple negative interactions at this location. Unfortunately this is the only location in my area. They used to have a few staff members that were very attentive and friendly. I understand they are short staffed but this has gone on now for months if not years. This review pertains to both the store experience and grooming salon experience. It's where you can find the best grooming salon team. My dogs are very wiggly and anxious about getting their nails trimmed or having bath. Joanna, Jolie, and Jonny has made a huge difference in both my grooming related K9 anxiety and my actual k9s having anxiety while getting their grooming needs met. They are very skilled, patient, kind, and absolutely professional throughout the entire process. My recent bath experience for Rascal was exemplary. The dog came home looking like a nice young hound! He is less itchy, shedding less, his teeth looks nice and clean, and nails nice and trimmed. His appointment started right on time and ended sooner than expected which I super appreciated. My rescue dog had a traumatic experience getting nails trimmed recently at a different Petco grooming salon in Huntington Beach. She has since been very challenging to get even the basics completed such as nail trimming. Joanna cured the issue during the second visit. My dog wasn't a wiggly shuddering poor mess. You have no idea how relieved I was after the nasty incident that happened before. My dog got called names, hit, and slapped by the groomer there in Huntington Beach Petco. It was the most blood curdling shrieking I have ever heard my dog make and it gives me the shudders every time I remember it. Anyhow, the rest of the store experience I have had has been also very positive at this location. The merchandising is neatly done and the cashiers are absolutely wonderful there. They always have my store pickup orders ready almost right away. Sometimes in less than 30 minutes. I have never had to wait in line during checkouts and my dogs love saying hello to every one of them. The aquatic section has a nice selection of all things fish related. I'm not a hardcore fish keeper at home so their stuff suffices for my needs. It is more organized and well kept than the Adams Avenue store so I have never had trouble finding what I need like aquatic salt, for example. Given my experience of going to at least 4 other Petco stores in the vicinity and having enough comparison samples and experience, I think this really is one of the best Petco in the area. Lastly, parking area is huge and ample. Stacking coupons is possible and cashier will be more than happy to assist with account issues. read more

My experience with this Petco location has been hit and miss. In general, it is understaffed, and the staff seem inexperience and untrained. If your transaction is straight forward, then you're likely to have a smooth experience. However, it is not always the case. I went in on a weekday afternoon. There was only one cashier, and she was helping a customer with a return. The customer wanted to return a used product and the cashier called the manager for assistance. The manager was slow coming, so the cashier moved to the next cash register so she could help me. After I explained that I needed to exchange the dog food I bought to a different flavor, she asked me to go grab what I needed and come back to do the exchange. When I got back, the cashier was helping a 3rd customer, who had a complicated transaction. (She was using coupons and had other discounts that she wanted to use). At this point, the "manager" had shown up and was helping the first customer with her return. However, the manager didn't seem to know what she was doing, and kept asking the cashier how to refund the customer. The chaser was in the midst of handling the coupon lady and asked the manager to wait. After a few minutes, the cashier told the coupon lady her total, and the coupon lady was like, "THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE!" and demanded to go through the charges and challenged them. The cashier once again asked the manager to come over to assist her. The first customer was still waiting for her refund, and both staff were now with the coupon lady. And I'm just standing there watching this. It didn't seem like the staff knew what they were doing. I put the food away and left. I didn't have time or faith that this would resolved quickly. read more

He looked great and smelled better than before, although it will take a while for the odor to dissipate. They were helpful in getting my rabies certificate and vet permission. DO NOT COME HERE FOR PET GROOMING I regret not reading these reviews before taking my new rescue dog in for grooming. This was his second grooming appointment at Petco and I came to pick him up after an hour and was told that they hadn't even started on him because someone was at lunch. An hour later we got called to pick him up. When we arrived we were told it took two hours because our dog was scared of the drying and it had to be set to the lowest setting. The lack of transparency and honesty is extremely frustrating. We then get home and I found a scratch on his stomach and blood in his ears from over cleaning. Petco - train your employees, fix your scheduling system (a lot of reviews on scheduling issues) and just do better. So thankful for the call I had with Johnny (sorry if I spelled that wrong)- I called looking for a flea treatment for my kitties and was informed they didn't have a groomer who specializes in cat treatment :( but was immediately referred to a lake forest location that does have a cat groomer! Not only was I referred to another petco but was honestly given the BEST advice to me than I've probably found online in my accumulated time of researching flea solutions! He included remedies they carry for carpets, fabric, furniture, and then explained the life cycle of fleas, oral treatments you can give to cats to treat the entire flea life cycle (not just the fleas currently on the body), explained to me different methods of killing fleas in couch cushions such as putting the cushions in trash bags for a while to suffocate the fleas. he also explained not using any chemicals on specifically pillowcases and how to wash linens in a specific way to get rid of fleas. Bottom line, I called for a generalized answer and received 100x more (newer and more helpful) advice and care than I was expecting and couldn't be more grateful for the help I received. so thankful for you Johnny! you're SO appreciated !! read more

I got my dog groomed today and this was the best grooming experience I have had. I believe the groomers name was Joanna. My dog came from a bad home and is very scared and she made him feel so comfortable while grooming and actually trimmed his nails down perfectly (everytime i take him to the groomer they leave his nails long because he's too scared and they don't take their time with him). She spent time explaining to me and my boyfriend everything and was so sweet and kind with my dog. I am so appreciative and he actually looks groomed (everytime in the past I pick him up they skimp on everything because he is hard to groom). Thank you so much to my groomer today! Depending on the location the employees are usually very nice and always willing to help . They typically have a wide range of pet supplies , food , and accessories. They can sometimes be a bit pricey , but then again I haven't found a pet store that isn't . They are always very good about returns , which is a huge plus in book . read more

Annoying. I have a cat with stomatitis (chronic mouth ulcers) so he's particular about the texture and flavors of the cat food he eats. I placed an online order for pickup at 4:30 and got a confirmation email. I ordered 7 greens, 7 purples and 7 pinks. By 6:30 I hadn't gotten a "come and get it" email so I just went to the store myself. Unfortunately, they only had 6 greens, 5 purples and 7 pinks. Crap. I couldn't just fulfill my own order and leave. Getting alternate items to make up the difference wasn't a possibility because my kitty won't eat all flavors of the same brand. Some make him have a "throw up face' reaction. I told the cashier what happened. He couldn't cancel my order so I just bought what they had. He was friendly and personable. He did his very best within the limitations of the PetCo computer system. I got home and called Customer Service to cancel the order. They said I could wait until the order was fulfilled to cancel. I told them it wasn't possible because I'd taken all the purples, greens and pinks they had in the store. After being on hold for 15 minutes, I was informed Customer Service couldn't cancel the order either. GROWL. They had to put in a request to the "main office" to cancel my order. And it would take 24 hours. And I'd need to look for confirmation of the cancellation. Just OMG. Everyone was nice and polite and personable. But no one fulfilled my order in a timely way. No one could cancel my order or even items on my order. They could be helpful only within the limitations of the arcane Petco ordering system. DO NOT RECOMMEND ONLINE ORDERING FOR PICKUP. read more

I went into this petsmart with the intention of buying the only cockatiel they had at time. which I'm now glad I didn't. I asked if I could hold or handle the bird to see the demeanor and was told no by the manager having a conversation with the cashier in a dead store with it explained that someone else had held the bird the day before and he flew around the store and they didn't want him to escape again. I asked them well don't you clip their wings? The manager just looked at me and said no as he carried on his personal conversation with the cashier. I was dumbfounded. He saw me struggling with trying to get his name tag engraved and he offered to do it for me. I was so taken back by that and appreciated him so much. One tiny baby parakeet all alone, refused even a mirror in a huge blinding glass enclosure. Broke my heart to see this baby animal so sad that it looked ill and lifeless on the edge of a food dish, eyes closed and head down. I bought her because of how sad and unfair to the animal this situation was. I have an electus parrot and have owned birds over forty years, I did not need another pet but could not in good conscience leave this animal behind. Please revise your live pet policies to be in the best interest of the innocent defenseless pets. I was informed it would be six days until the next delivery of birds and I don't believe this one would have survived that long. Staff was friendly and as helpful as allowed to be. The store is fairly large with animals such as guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, chinchillas, birds and fish for sale. When I visited over the weekend, they were having dog adoptions outside the store. Store employees here are helpful. If you sign up for their free card, you get a coupon for 10% off an item e-mailed to you. They also accept manufacturers' coupons here. They have a pretty good selection of pet furniture. Deals for cat food seemed to be pretty good. I was happy to see that they carry a hard to find dry food for cats that my cat likes. We asopted our two littehn from MeeowwzResQ, who had cats here for the day in July, and have been loyal ever since. They have a good kitten selection, as well as the combo adult/kitten wet foods. + If I were to buy litter from them, they carry World's Best (it's $2 cheaper at Target) + Lots of lovely cat toys that our kittens adore + We bought our cat free from here (the top model - can't recall its exact name) and the kittens love it. (I highly recommend, but get it whe you kittens are young so that they can become used to our. Ours seriously adore it.) I've never had any problems here, the staff is always helpful. The staff were also very helpful when we bought out cat tree and one of the pieces was missing. Totally happy to exchange and make it right for us. I absolutely love this Petco. It's never crowded and always has friendly and helpful staff. I used to use a mobile groomer (super expensive) and figured I would give Petco grooming a try. I just had both my pups groomed at the Petco Salon by Aiden, and she is amazing! You can tell right away that she enjoys her job and is very good with animals. I was a little nervous as my Pit/Lab Koko has never had a bath before and dislikes water, but Aiden assured me she was in good hands. My husband and I went to purchase some items for our budgies today April 10,2022. We were heart broken to see that that the hand fed conures looked very scared and one flinched when a worker stepped out from the back room. Their water was disgusting as if they hadn't changed it for a week. There was a film on top with lots of seeds or poop at the bottom. We took some pictures because we asked the girl if they had changed the water and she claimed they change it 3x a day. As a bird owner I can tell you that this water bowl would NOT be this dirty if they clean it 3x/day. The parakeets accords are really cute but some had very dirty butts which means they may have a crop or vent infection also from dirty water. I dropped my little furry pup off Friday for grooming. He's been there before for baths, but trying to get his haircut this time. Drop off was fine. About 15-20 mins I get a call that the groomer cannot cut his hair for concern if HER safety. I asked how we can make this better for future services and she had attitude that I need to bring him more often, which I had just brought him about four weeks before that. I told her I was not comfortable with the way the conversation was going and to stop all services and I would be there to pick them right back up. when I go to pick him up, I get my dog and I told her "that she lacked professionalism and customer service because she told me her safety was more important than my dog safety. "She told me she did not say that, and I told her she, in fact did say that. While I was walking out of the grooming area, me, and my two younger sons had heard her say that "our dog belongs in the trash " I was in such shock and my boys were so upset about this as you can imagine. And then called the manager of the store to explain that to him he was also in disbelief and said that this isn't the first home comments like this have been made here. He offered me a 50% off my next service appointment there, which is like why would I even want to go back there? I cannot believe that someone who is supposed to work with dogs would say something like that especially in front of children! read more
