I have never been comfortable boarding my dogs- my cattle dog has separation anxiety, and my dobie is young and I have been nervous about how she would react with unknown dogs. Well, I have found my happy place. OC Dog Ranch is amazing, and boarding my dogs with Dana allowed me to relax and not worry that my pups would be ok. The ranch is nestled off Ortega Highway- a drive but worth it! The ranch has room for the dogs to run, lots of friends to play with, and Dana's staff is sensitive to the needs of your pup. My cattle dog, who typically stops eating when away from me, settled right in and never stopped chowing down. Dana's staff noticed right away that my doberdork is nervous around large groups or big dogs, so they made sure she had smaller groups to play with. And, she gets cold easily, but the staff made sure she stayed warm and comfy- the dogs have roomy temp regulated pens for sleeping, beds and blankets. We received great updates and the staff even gives report cards! It was a special treat as well to see our pups on the ranch's Instagram. After 6 days away, they came home happy and healthy (and clean- the optional bath is a must). We took our 15-month-old German Shepherd to OC Dog Ranch for the 17-day board and train. She has been home a little over two weeks now, and my wife and I are so happy with the results of their program. The dog we left at The Ranch was often anxious and had trouble focusing and listening to us (especially when there were any distractions present). Taking her for walks/hikes was always an upper body workout. Since she has been home, the difference is night and day. She is calm and attentive and listens under all sorts of circumstances, and we look forward to taking walks with her now. TRISH is downright unpleasant to deal with and has very little customer service skills. I reached out in FEBRUARY looking for a place that specializes in a board & train (for my pup, who is driving my wife crazy while I'm deployed and I seriously owe her a better dog). After a few weeks of conversation with Trish, the training seems right for us and I'm willing to shell out nearly $3K to have them take my FAVORITE dog and train him for 2+ weeks. I realize this is a tad ridiculous and I have never even considered this for any other pet before, but it's for my BEST dog and for the wife's sanity... so here we go! Trish mentions the earliest dates available are in mid-May. Ok... that's a long wait, but worth it for the right training and what I hope to get out of it. They email my wife for additional details all through March. They tell her THEY will make the reservation after she uploads his vaccine records. My wife uploads the documents in March (last vaccination was 3/21). Then it goes radio silence. She emails them on 4/25 to confirm everything is set up for training, because we are both getting a little concerned there has been no further communication. Still NO response. Today, I emailed (FROM OVERSEAS) and TRISH replies that she tried to connect with my wife (no record of this alleged email on 4/25) and since we didn't connect, we don't have a reservation. The next available training is in mid-August. I am so livid right now. I have confirmed emails from TRISH that SAY: "Once you have uploaded the vaccination records, I will create a reservation for you. Your spot will not be locked in until the registration is complete and vaccination records are loaded." All of the vaccines were uploaded in March. Their staff verified them on 4/25 (at 5pm) after my wife emailed the business (at 1:45pm) to confirm what the heck was going on/why we hadn't heard anything back from them. Still not a damn apology. TRISH even tried to blame going into labor, not being in the office all of the month of March, and then basically implied it was on us for not communicating with them!!! Avoid. We sent our 2 year old GSD/husky mix to the dog ranch for a 15-day board and train and could not be happier we sent her there. I was very worried about leaving her for that long since this was her first time away from us, but the staff at the ranch took such good care of her and kept us updated whenever we requested. The staff there are so attentive to the dogs and really understand how to work with and care for the many different personalities a dog can have. Our dog is very high energy, but also can be anxious and they made sure to put her in play groups that were a good fit for her to ensure the safety of all the dogs. I really wanted to give this place a try, because I love the idea of the dogs having so much time outside. But it ended up being more trouble than it's worth for the following reasons: 1. They do not offer any discounts for a second dog. (Most places do) 2. They charge a "late checkout fee" like a hotel. The problem with this is obvious-most people are boarding their dogs because they are traveling, so the likelihood of being able to pick up between 9-11 is slim to none. Most facilities allow pickup in the afternoon and are flexible with time. 3. They have their own vaccine requirements. My dogs are current according to their vet at VCA Arroyo, a well known veterinary facility with two locations in South County. The Ranch wanted my 8 month old dog to have 4 Parvo vaccinations, when his vet said he is current with the two he has. They do this with the Bordatella vaccine as well-the standard is once a year but the Ranch requires it twice a year. Basically it's like jumping through hoops to stay here, for a premium price and an inconvenient location. I will not be double vaccinating my dogs, I will trust the advice of their veterinarian since that is her profession. Big waste of time! read more

We were referred to the ranch. From start to finish it's a 1st class operation. Dana is a hands-on owner that runs & trains the dogs w/a professional group of trainers/kennel staff. We 1st took our lab for a trial weekend to get acclimated for boot camp. They check to make sure your dog's healthy before entering then move them from being in a single area to the right group he fits in on their 5 acre plot of land. The dogs aren't crated so they get to play in groups unless it's quiet time-bed time. Such a nice feeling to know he's not sitting in a kennel. you can request an update on progress which they were good at responding to. We got our handsome boy back w/a follow-up training session after being gone a few weeks. It's our 1st of 3 follow-up sessions. Our main focus was off leash & placing. I wasn't sure what to expect but Kona came back more confident, intense, able to do commands at a whole new level. It's up to us now to keep it up @home! We will be taking him there for long weekends or vacation stays & possibly more training. I'm extremely happy & wouldn't think twice about the cost with these results -so worth it. We adore this place and their staff. All dogs are vetted, so no dangerous or ill dogs are accepted. Our 90 lb German Shepherd, Archie, is treated like a big baby and loves running free all day long while he is boarding. We've left him at the ranch for short weekends and long multi week 'trips', and every time he's so excited to be dropped off. We took our German Shepherd at 1.2 years old. We tried PetCo training when he was 4 months old and it didn't solve any of his behavioral problems. He is a smart dog and followed all the commands (sit, stay, wait etc) but only at home. Our daily walks were HORRIBLE. He would pull during the entire mile and it honestly felt like my arm was going to be pulled out one day. Extremely reactive to every bike, dog, and person within eyesight. Once we stepped outside, he forgot about me and every command. He didn't care about anything other than pull pull pull. It's basically like your dog staying at a safe, monitored dog park while you are traveling. I heard about OC Dog Ranch from a friend. And I was so excited to book my beautiful dog for a visit. Boarding seems so stressful for me, but sometimes I can't take the pup with me and I worry the whole time. OC Dog Ranch fills up fast for boarding and training, so I had to enroll, and schedule a couple weeks in advance. It was really easy. And the price was about the same as my regular vet (who stopped boarding during COVID) and other spots in the middle of my city that have both good and bad reviews. I have videos of my doggo arriving at the Ranch and he seemed so happy. I trust that my dog got socialized with other dogs in a constructive, safe, and stimulating setting. I have videos of him leaving too. Excited to go home, but also healthy and happy. I actually had a glitch in my reservation. The person watching my dog actually couldn't meet the expected drop off and pick up agreements that I made, but Trish was so nice to me, and moved my reservation at the last minute. I'm not suggesting that anyone could pull this off, I'm just saying they offered excellent customer service. Since my beautiful baby has been home, he has been confident and obedient. He ran, swam, played, and sniffed around this beautiful ranch. They told me that he came out of his shell and ate well. I've had problems with him not eating, or holding his potties, when I've had people watch him previously. When he got picked up he was really clean (we paid for the bath and he smells great) and he was really calm and jumped right back into our home life. Followed commands, didn't seem anxious.
