I was a fan of Paws Pet Resort until an incident happened today. My dog got too friendly with another dog. So I understood why they took him out of the play area . What I didn't know is that when your dog is taken out...he or she is out for the rest of the day in a small room. He was in this room with no water for 3 hours that I know of by watching their cam and not seeing him. I asked to see where he had been taken and I was amazed...all these little rooms were filled with dogs. Many of which were just barking. I couldn't believe this was going on when one is paying for doggie care and in my case to have my dog socializing with others. Another thing that disturbed me is that when I asked to see where Rusty was, he didn't know which room he was in. So it seemed to me that these dogs are put away and not bothered with until they are picked up. It's interesting that on a sign in the office says something like "these furry babies are like your child". Tell me what parent would put their child into a small room for hours. If you choose to go there make sure you give them your standards and what you won't tolerate. Go and see the whole place during a time when dogs are there. If I had seen and known what I saw today earlier I wouldn't have brought my dog. I'm not going back. read more

I LOVE PAWS. We've been taking our older dog Rascal here since 2020 and our newest little girl Luna for the last few months. As crazy dog people, I cannot overstate how much comfort it brings us to know they are in good hands with a staff full of animal lovers who always checks in with us, sends us adorable pictures and the pups are happy to play here. I'm not exactly sure how I haven't written a review for Paws, but here we go -- I've been taking our pack to Janelle, Jessie, Boomer, and the rest of the amazing SC team since we moved to south county in 2019 and I could not recommend them more. My husband and I live in RMV, and although there is another pet boarding spot nearby, we choose to drive down to San Clemente every other Tuesday (for daycare of course) or when we go out of town because we know they'll take great care of our family of 4. Every attendant knows our pets and I am never disappointed with the photos they send when we are away. When Otis stopped eating during one of our trips, Jessie reached out to see if they could offer some sort of treat to entice him to eat and kept us notified when his mood changed. We have even brought our foster dogs here for daycare. I do miss seeing Janelle and Jessie, but Eva and Liz make up for it when they wrangle everyone for me during pick up. I appreciate everything they do and know our group is not always the easiest, but I love that they love our dogs like their own. read more

We decided to try out Paws Pet Resort after reading all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, we had a very different experience. Boarded our small dog here for one night, and when I picked him up at noon the next day, I asked the receptionist how often they typically walk the dogs. I was told at minimum morning & evening, but usually 4-5 times a day. Which sounded great, so I thought I would test out the truthfulness of that claim by taking my dog for a walk when we got home. We barely made it out to the street before he had a very large poop. Definitely odd, since he had allegedly been walked once, possibly twice, already. Next, he started having diarrhea throughout the afternoon... and this morning I was greeted by a mess I won't share the details of here. Suffice it to say, that after cleaning poop of walls, doing laundry on a Sunday morning AND having to give our little pup a bath after dropping him off freshly groomed at Paws - we won't be going back. I don't know if it was due to unsanitary boarding conditions (in spite of it being our first visit, I wasn't invited to see his cage/ boarding area. In retrospect I wish I would have asked, but at the time didn't think it important after reading such wonderful reviews) or lack of oversight that allowed him to eat something he shouldn't have -- but either way, our visit ended up being a very unpleasant experience. It's probably fine for dogs w/ a more resilient composition - but if there are "behind-the-scences" inconsistencies or lack of integrity, it will show up in smaller dogs w/ sensitive GI systems and more tender physical make-up. Too bad, as Paws is right down the street from where we live, and it would have been a wonderful option for boarding our little pup now and then. read more

My dogs stay at Paws Pet Resort when our family is out of town or on vacation. PPR is excellent. I find making a reservation easy to do but I recommend calling a few weeks in advance as some holidays get booked up quickly. They will suggest their lake forest location (or vice versa) if they are fully booked. It's nice that they have a back up option but I've never had to go to the lake forest one myself. The receptionists always keep a record of my phone number and know my dogs as they always check for vaccinations and safety of my dogs and the other dogs that will be staying there. I like seeing the windows when I come in to see all the other dogs that are playing there. I've also had my dogs receive baths and they do a good job to make sure they are ready for when I have to pick up my dogs. I will say that two of my three dogs are Pomeranians and their fur can get matted and be difficult bathe but they always come out looking and smelling like stars. They ask to bring preferred dog foods in bags. They have their own bowls so that you don't have to pack them. read more

I just did a 10 min tour and met the employees at the front and I already know I found the best place for my pups to play or stay over night. I toured 4 different ones and this one is tops for sure! The other three competitors I toured had the following issues... Next to the train tracks, (two of these places were on the tracks and my one dogs is afraid of loud noises and it Smelled horrid at the front desk and inside the entry it was really dark, couldn't see the dogs and they did not offer a tour, I had to ask. It was a two story place, dark a ugly and I saw three dogs in a small room that were not happy. It's also ON the freeway. The second place only takes perfectly adjusted dogs or forget it, no special treatment, this same place had employees in the play yards that were clearly not supposed to or allowed to touch or interact with any of the dogs, and in each yard there was only one person in with a very large group of big dogs, seemed like not enough and they had no water hose or anything in case there was a fight, that same place you are NOT allowed to bring any items like beds or blankets, that same place I watched a small dog (Chihuahua) climb the play yard fence and the employee that works the play yard didn't notice, during my tour we had to catch the little guy so he or she didn't fall 5 feet to the ground and get hurt, could have been kinda bad, and two places were ON the freeway so bad air quality and noisey. This place, Paws Pet Resort was clean, colorful, smelled good, had big windows to see the dogs playing, the front desk employees were super kind and helpful and full of info even though I showed up unannounced. They had already found my website sign in sheet from about 20 minutes prior and were already processing my online questions as I walked in. That was on a Saturday afternoon at pick up time at 4:00 pm. They were on top of everything. I was offered a improptu tour and saw ALL the dogs and they said special treatment is normal for some pets and we can brings their beds and blankets and even some toys I believe. They said they can warm the food if I bring special meals as long as I mark who gets what and when. They also have a water area for dogs to play in! Optional of course. The little guest rooms for dogs were roomy, clean and light, very good vibe! They will test my dogs, all three of them, for up to a full day (for free), and see how they feel most comfortable. One of our dogs doesn't do well with other dogs and his sister doesn't do well without her brother. They make sure they get playtime in their own room and offer fetch to keep them active! They also send updated photos of them playing!! We love the love they give our dogs and even though they don't do well around other dogs they welcomed them with open arms! I'm writing this review on behalf of my mother and myself, as we've both had an amazing experience with Paws Pet Resort (specifically Paws trainer, Seth) in San Clemente with our respective dogs/households. Backstory/Experience with Paws: In 2020, my mother adopted a rescue dog whose previous owners had not properly socialized him as a puppy. As a result, her rescue was highly dog reactive (barking, lunging on leash, socially awkward around other dogs). Prior to finding Seth at Paws Pet Resort, my mother's previous trainer (not through Paws) said an e-collar was the only way the reactive behavior could be corrected (she didn't want to go that route). Fast forward to 2021, and I adopted a dog in my own household -- a male poodle puppy. It soon became imperative my mom's rescue dog overcame his reactivity, so we could enjoy family gatherings together without boarding/separating our dogs. That's when we discovered Seth at Paws Pet Resort in San Clemente. Through weekly individual training sessions at Paws, Seth helped my mom's dog overcome his reactivity, properly socialize him, and gave him confidence and security around other dogs through positive reinforcement. He gave my mother fantastic training tips, and even video recorded each training session so my mother could watch them back. During the last training session, Seth introduced our two dogs to each other. Afterwards, using Seth's tips, we took both dogs home to my mother's house and they got along perfectly; no resource guarding, growling, or any sign of reactivity -- just tail-wagging, sniffing, friendly play, and sleeping! This is all thanks to Seth at Paws Pet Resort. Seth not only helped our dogs get along, he helped bring them together during the holidays. I booked an appointment for my samoyed who had previously been rejected by a reputable groomer in Los Angeles because his matts were so bad. (We went hiking and a bunch of burrs got stuck in his fur and exacerbated all his existing matts.) They were going to shave my samoyed. For those of you unfamiliar with the breed, you are NEVER supposed to shave a samoyed. It can cause numerous health issues for the dog. I decided to get Eli's second opinion and I'm so grateful that I did. Eli may have saved my dog from skin issues and from his fur never growing back the same way. Not all groomers know what to do with Sammy's! I will be driving 60 miles to see Eli so that my dog gets a great grooming experience. read more

We have been using Paws Pet Resort for years. We have a large English Black Lab. This is our 4th Lab. She stays "many months", overnight at Paws, every year. We trust them. By no way are they what anyone would consider inexpensive, but they are quite good. Better than anywhere else we have looked. To me, and my wife, it's super important that the play rooms where the dogs play most of the day - that the web-cam view in those rooms, show the area where the dogs are playing & on the structures where they hang out. That's really the primary purpose of having the webcams- for the customers... What makes the San Clemente Paws Pet Resort so successful, is the people they hire. There are few of the upper staff that are so wonderful to us and our pet. But, Jesse is simply outstanding. She is incredible with dogs and she naturally loves them. She has an amazing sense of kindness and duty to achieving customer satisfaction. She's also pretty good at setting (or adjusting) the playrooms so customers can see their pets on the webcam :-). I've been coming here for years and the staff has been so consistent and I feel like they have a wonderful bond with my dog. They always have done their best to keep both us and the dogs safe through Covid and all. I don't feel comfortable taking my dog anywhere else, they just wouldn't handle her like paws does. They give me comfort when I drop off my dog and always answer my questions when I call to check up on her when I become a worry wart . This place has mostly great reviews so I wasn't hesitant on boarding my dog here while my husband and I went out of town for 5 days. We called two days in to our trip to check on him and see how he was doing with the other dogs and they told us he was great. All was well until my husband went to pick him up. They informed my husband that our dog was in an altercation with another dog earlier in the day after another dog became aggressive towards him. This was new to us. We received no phone call to inform us of what happened. Our dog came home with a noticeable bite wound on his snout with swelling and multiple scratches on his stomach. They had no explanation for what happened. Since being home today our normally energetic dog has been anti social and skittish around us, even shaking when we speak to him. Safe to say we will not be returning to Paws in the future. Update: we found another puncture wound on his face this morning read more

Was welcomed by staff as soon as I brought Ziggy, my miniature pinscher chihuahua puppy mix. The staff gave Ziggy attention right away, which she loved. It also helped with having me stay there to fill out paperwork just so Ziggy was comfortable. As you walk in, it's nice to see all the dogs through the window. I felt like they didn't have to hide anything. I also liked that they took Ziggy's toys/bed with open arms so she could smell her bed and toys for comfort. But this was our first rescue, so we were a little hesitant. But the staff and the owner at Paws Pet are all great. They also have a great selection of dogs that are up for adoption. You should check them out first if you're thinking of getting a new dog. For the first 2 months of his life he grew up at Paws...getting socialized and making friends. No matter where we go, everyone knows Dash. We are so glad we found Paws. We still drop him off there from time to time...it's like going to visit family!! :-) Update: We have a new addition to the family and her name is Chloe! Love the way they treated my boy Sully. My dog had an emergency surgery and had stitches and had to be coned when we were supposed to be on vacation. They were the only facility close to our travel destination that would take him. I was not charged extra for med administration. I did pay extra for pupdates and extra play time with him. I did not get one update until almost 10pm the day before I was coming to pick him up, but other than that, it was a great experience. He looked super happy in his photos and they had no problem answering my questions when I would call to check on him. Highly recommend them. read more
