Serving pizza in San Gabriel since 1950, I've been meaning to visit Petrillo's, but usually stick to Asian food in the area. Recently, my son and I have been making pizzas on Friday nights as a bonding experience while my wife is out with friends. We make some, buy one, and compare. My son usually prefers his homemade, but Petrillo's is the exception! He loved the cheesy cheese pizza and the amazing cheese pull. I ordered half cheese and half their specialty pizza, which includes mozzarella, Romano cheese, house tomato sauce, Italian sausage, pepperoni, salami, mushrooms, onions, and green bell peppers. Their small pizza is 12 inches and has 8 slices, which is much larger than other places. Petrillo's Specialty Pizza is stacked with generous toppings and has a doughy but crispy bottom - the best of both worlds. I enjoyed the Specialty pizza, especially the Italian sausage. While I'm not a mushroom fan, I ate them anyway. I'll likely hold off on mushrooms next time. They provide generous amounts of complimentary crushed red pepper packets, paper plates, and napkins. Parmesan cheese packets cost extra, about $0.50 each, if I remember correctly. The staff were friendly and are local residents, which is always great to see in a mom-and-pop business. You can eat in or order from the take-out counter on the right side. It's best to order ahead to avoid a 20-25 minute wait. My only minor complaint was the pizza was a bit sloppy when I took a picture, but I understand they're busy getting orders out. I will definitely be back to Petrillo's for pizza! read more

I called in an order today at 6 PM asked them if it would be possible to have my order ready by 7:05 because I would be late to work if it was longer than that well, it's 746 I let them know that I was super late. They didn't even make the order until I got there at 7:05 . I'm pregnant. I went inside. I told her that I needed to leave so I needed a refund even though I really wanted the food, the cashier scoffed at me and rolled her eyes. I explained again that I just really needed to leave because I was gonna be late, she called her manager out, and he just walked out yelling at me without even understanding what was happening, they were super rude, ultimately he told her to give me my money back and she started counting and had no idea how much money to give me back so she closed the register and without saying anything to me she left again made me wait another five minutes for her to come back while he taught her how to make basic change and so I yelled back at them to just give me my money so I could leave ,the cashier called me an ugly ass bitch and she stole my money, so much for good customer service yeah this is the worst place ever don't go here. They're just gonna rip you off and I treat you like crap mind you she already had my food in her hand, but she wouldn't give it to me.. they shorted me 20 bucks My husband had to go in there to tell them to not disrespect me, and the little cashier yelled more profanities. I called when I left and and talked to a manager and explain to him about his insane cashier, and he told me to come back for my money but I don't want I go near that place ever again. SGV is known for their Asian food but wanted to try an Italian restaurant for a change. We dined on a Saturday evening around 6 pm. We were greeted by the host and waited about 2-3 minutes to be seated. There were around 4 or 5 tables that were already seated and/or eating. Setting: typical western restaurant with booths and tables. Quite dark inside. We were sat at a booth but the seats had a bunch of residual bread crumbs on them. We had to ask a waiter/busboy to clean off the seats for us. Food: This restaurant is known for their pizza so we ordered their signature pizza to share. We also ordered the fried zucchini appetizer and the spaghetti bolognese which came with a side (Minestrone soup) There was complimentary bread and butter for the table - it was soft and fluffy on the inside and had a nice crust. But it came out cold. Would have been better if it was warmed up. Fried zucchini: well breaded, came with ranch. Portion size was ok, not too big but not too little either. But quite expensive at $11 for an appetizer that did not WOW the table. Minestrone Soup: average, quite salty, given it is early in the evening, the soup should not be this salty whereas the end of the day usually means the soup has been reduced and concentrated by warming/simmering. Spaghetti Bolognese: plenty of meat in the sauce and pretty tasty as well; but the biggest flaw was that the spaghetti was way overcooked. Huge negative for an Italian restaurant - the base/pasta of your dishes should be perfect and this was far from Al dente. Petrillo Signature Pizza: loaded with toppings, they did not cheap out with the toppings and pretty tasty as well; however, another big flaw was that the dough was dry and dense - the dough did not rise. The yeast in the dough was either non-existent or was not given enough time to rise and create the fluffy dough and crust texture of a typical pizza. We basically got dense flatbread. As this was the signature pizza, it was quite disappointing. Service: Average, nothing great. The servers came by a couple times only after the food came out. Could have really stopped by a couple more time to check in. Rating: 2 stars Review summary is based on mainly food quality as the quality of the food, attention to detail, and execution all was very subpar. Given the kitchen was not super busy on a Saturday evening, the poor quality leaves much to desire. read more

On a Friday night in late January. My hubby and I went to dinner here. It was our first time there. We parked on the side street and walked to the restaurant. Inside has lots of booths and long tables for big parties. The waitress gave us a booth and menu. Nice ambiance of playing music in the background. Our server was nice and she gave us free bread and butter. I ordered chicken Parmesan with spaghetti with house salad and Pepsi drink $24.95 with chicken wings. The bread arrived and it was soft with butter pieces. Next our Soda arrived in Xlg cups with salad. I was almost full then my chicken Parmesan arrived. It's very saucy and cheesy with bites of chicken Parmesan. Also the spaghetti was cooked just right. The waitress checked in our table several times even though she has quite of customers. read more

Petrillo's is a long-standing, old school Italian joint. In an area where it has become very Asian populated, this Italian spot is one of few. We had stopped by for lunch hoping for sit down dining, but the dining room wasn't open yet. Instead, we ordered a Medium Pepperoni Pizza ($28.25) for takeout, which took about 15 minutes. When we got the box, it was super greasy. The pizza is also sliced in squares, which gave more slices. Overall, it was good pizza but I wish the crust was more crunchy. It wasn't all that special to me, so maybe dining in would've been different. If I wasn't supporting a family business, I'd take a Costco pizza instead. read more

I'm of the opinion that their food is pretty mid. And over the years, their customer service has gone down the drain. It seems like it's difficult for them to fulfill the many orders that they receive... Not sure if they're into the takeout aspect of the business. You're more likely to receive food if you dine in... Worst customer service, I ordered from doordash and they ran out of fettuccine and only sent me garlic bead. No called me to let me know, I could have ordered something else. Several years ago I left a very negative review because I felt Petrillo's had lost what made it special. As someone who has been eating here for years, that wasn't easy to do. I'm happy to report that things have changed for the better. The food is once again the star of the show. The Petrillo's Special is back to being one of my favorite pizzas in Southern California, loaded with toppings and packed with flavor. The sausage pizza is also excellent. The quality, consistency, and overall execution seem much closer to the Petrillo's I remember. The service still isn't perfect. Staff can sometimes seem a little overwhelmed or inattentive, and the dining room could use some updating. It's a bit dark and worn around the edges. But neither of those things stopped me from enjoying the meal. At the end of the day, great pizza is why people come here, and Petrillo's is once again delivering where it matters most. I believe in giving credit when a business improves, and Petrillo's has earned it. If you stopped coming because of past experiences, it might be time to give them another try. Tip: There are two separate shops. One shop is dedicated to the dine-in restaurant. There's a separate shop right next door dedicated to takeout orders only. Great price for the quantity, but it's okay with flavor and texture. Parking: Side parking is available and there are a few parking spaces open at the back of the restaurant. Calamari: They do pack a lot of calamari, but the meal overall was okay. The squid felt tough to chew on and the fried breading was tough. Small Speciality Pizza: Pizza is HEAVY when you order, the box will feel heavy. Petrillo's packs a lot of toppings. If you're a heavy eater, I would say you can eat 2-3 slices. With 3 slices you will feel stuffed. I would order a small pizza if you are sharing with a group. Each small pizza comes in 8 slices. The toppings taste fresh and their Italian sausage are so juicy and full of flavor. However, their crust is on the harder side compared to other pizzas. read more

The service from the moment we entered was so unwelcoming and unpleasant. Daisy has a terrible attitude and told me "I only have two hands" when I asked for more cups... girl... the food was so bland, I'm not sure the point of the server if she didn't even box our dishes, let alone clean the table as we ate. The food was just how I remembered it, pretty good. The Princess got the chicken parm plate and I got a half and half spaghetti with a meatball and ravioli. Good portions. We ordered there and it came out quickly. The only thing that bothered me was I thought we would be able to be seated and seating does not happen until 4 pm. Bummer. We had to take the food back home. Oh, I did not eat the salad right away and it lasted until the next day. I'd been craving pizza on a Saturday night and finally decided to try Petrillo after hearing about it for years. I placed a takeout order through a food app, which estimated my order would be ready in just 30 minutes. Petrillo is located off Valley Blvd, and while the area can be busy, it wasn't too hectic when I arrived. There's some street parking available in front and along the side street, making it fairly convenient. Once I picked up my order, my first impression was how heavy the box felt. I ordered their most popular selection recommended by others here. The pizza was absolutely delicious, with every slice generously loaded with toppings. Most slices were perfect, though a few were a bit on the salty side. The thick slices were incredibly filling. I was surprised this was considered a small pizza since it could easily feed 2-3 people. I usually have a big appetite, but I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Freezing the leftovers worked out great and kept the pizza tasting just as good later on. read more

I was craving pizza on a Friday night and wanted to find a spot that can deliver a good one. I've heard about Petrillo over the years and finally gave it a try. I did place an order for takeout via a food app. It advised that the order would be ready within 40-45 minutes. Upon arrival, I recognized that the restaurant is located off of Valley blvd, which was very busy. There was some street parking at the front and on the side street as well. However, it was very busy at around 6pm. Afterward, I head inside, only to find out I walked in the wrong side. I needed to head to the next door. It seems like this side does not have seating and is just made for takeout. After getting my order, my first impression was that it's a pretty heavy box. For my order, I got a small pizza with 4 toppings (Italian sausage, black olives, pineapple, and pepperoni). There was a lot of toppings on all slices and it was a pretty thick slices. I never felt like one topping was lacking. Some slices were perfect, while some were a bit more salty. I was surprised this pizza was considered small, as it's definitely shareable between 2-3 people. I feel like I can eat a lot and I was really full after 3 slices. growing up, I would come here often with my family. I especially always loved the penne vodka with chicken. I came back today to see how it stood up over 10 years. It was really good with the same flavor that I remembered from my childhood. My one comment is that the sauce could've been a bit thicker but otherwise it was pretty close. I like how they use breaded chicken, which gives it a really good taste. The portions here are insanely large. I think the dish that I got could've easily been split among three people or two very hungry people. They give you unlimited bread too, which was super soft and fresh so you could just probably load up on that if you don't wanna spend too much money. The person I was with got the chicken Parmesan, which came with two incredibly large chicken cutlets with perfectly melted cheese on top and in the second dish spaghetti noodles with a tomato sauce. I tried some of it, and it was so fresh and so delicious. They have a multitude of options here. If you want pasta and legitimate Italian food, you gotta come here. To start any entrée they give you either soup or salad so I got the salad. You can get the salad with any of the typical dressings like blue cheese, ranch, Italian, or a special Caesar salad that has croutons cheese and Caesar dressing, of course. The salad was huge, I got the Italian salad and it came with olives and tomatoes and pepperoncini. I don't particularly like olives, so it was nice that they were separated, and I could pick them off. The soup that they offered was minestrone. Another fond memory I have from this place is the pizza. I had a job in the area and they would order the pizza during meetings and I just remember the pepperoni being super thick and curling up around the edges with a thick crust. The cheese pull was like no other. This place is a gem of the san gabriel Valley. The service was very friendly today and I felt the positive vibes from the workers here. They really try to be kind and courteous. I appreciate that. They have Tiffany lamps with stained glass and a golden in laid ceiling that gives you a feeling of old world Italy. to the right of the restaurant they have a takeout operation. Petrillos San Gabriel, it is such a shame that your customer service is so horrible, because your food is so amazing. Our second trip to this location instead of our normal San Dimas loc. First try, food wasn't ready on time & took an hour instead of 35 mins. Second try tonight, pasta was forgotten to put in. "Give us 8 mins" turned into 28 minutes. My dad suggested eating here since we've lived in this area my whole life. He said we got takeout once or twice when I was in elementary school. I don't remember this. So, my Taiwanese family went on this cultural excursion. I think the food here would be good if you have a palate that is for Italian American food. Fried calamari: tasty. Fried. Eat it while it's hot. Linguini Alla Clams: fine. I think I prefer like a Chinese style stir fried noodle. We took the leftovers home and I added soy sauce and seasonings to it, and it was much improved. Specialty pizza: thick crust. The sausage was very yummy! It was HUGE. We got the medium and each of us ate one piece there. Bread: the best part of the meal. Very fresh and delicious. The butter is those little cold packets. I would prefer a room temp butter to spread on this. Overall, it was fine. I think I am not the ideal customer, but I do think that it helps to hear a review like this. Combo fettuccini and rigatoni with a side of meatballs and it came with soup and salad, medium pizza half cheese and half pepperoni w/sausage. Oh and they gave us bread. A feast! So on Sunday, I called in an order for a medium pizza (which was very good as always). However, I spent almost $22 on an order of spaghetti with meat sauce. The pasta was clumpy and it appeared to have at most, maybe 2 tablespoons of sauce, if that! The absolute worst spaghetti ever!!! I feel so ripped off to have paid that much for basically noodles. Learning that this was a famously well known place to have Italian food I just had to try it! I was not disappointed! The service was attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic. We came to Petrillo's to dine in on a Saturday afternoon. Let me preface this by saying that I REALLY wanted to like this place. Ive heard nothing but great things about it here. We were seated and waited for menus for about 10 minutes. The waitress came and said, "are you all ready to order?" And clearly can see we didn't have any menus in front of us. Secondly, after ordering our food, a roach started crawling on the floor. YES, a ROACH!! The party I was with wanted to stay and suggested that maybe it came from next door or somewhere outside, not sure. But zero employees nor management came and apologized to us for it. It crawled directly under our table and someone in our party had to smash it and kill it. Food: The pizza wasn't as tasty as it looks. 3/5 stars. The wings were great! 5/5 The mozzarella sticks were average. 3.5/5 Service: Our food was out fast, but other than that, service was weak. No one checked on us, we had to ask for the hostess to take our check so we can pay and leave already, in which we received a snarky response in return.
