Claro's Italian Market originally opened in San Gabriel in 1948, delivering an affordable array of Italian ingredients, deli goods, and baked treats. After 5 generations, Claro's now operates locations across Southern California. At the San Gabriel location, you can easily park across the side street in Claro's dedicated lot. The first room is dedicated to checkout, baked goods, and wine bottles. Further down, the back room triples a pantry, a refrigerator, and a deli. The chatter among staff and customers mostly drowns out the soft background of Italian tunes. The imported Italian grocery selection is excellent by LA standards, but don't sleep on Claro's made-to-order sandwiches. Grab a slip from the ticket dispenser and browse the well-stocked refrigerator section until a staff member shouts out your number. My fiancee and I love the Spicy Mike, which immediately hits your palate with a punch of flavor. The Great Grandpa Joe is solid as well, nostalgically recalling my memories of when Subway used to be good. The Large size sandwiches are the length of your forearm, and the sauce is perfectly proportioned to ensure that the sandwiches are neither dry nor soggy. My only critique is that I prefer a seeded roll to Claro's standard crisp-and-chewy Italian roll. Nonetheless, Claro's prove that a good Italian sandwich doesn't have to be overly complicated or gimmicky, and they set a good benchmark for what a hoagie should be. In contrast, Claro's Italian pastries were "fine" at best. The cookies were dry and muted in flavor, while the Cannoli Tart missed the satisfying crunch of a classic cannoli shell. As such, I'll be sticking to groceries and sandos.

Let me say, the truffle honey was worth it, I feel this need to make sure I lick any drop that falls on the floor - liquid gold. We also tried the cousin, it's not as good as great grandpa unfortunately. Will need to try more later on.

I always assumed this was a sit down restaurant, but in fact it is mainly a coffee shop with some pastries and food, but you order at a counter, seat yourself at any of the table in the small interior or the larger outside seating area, and they bring your food to your table. It's all fine, and service was very friendly and accommodating. It's just a lot more casual than I expected. I got some pastries to go - a pistachio croissant and a huge blueberry muffin. They were both very good, but the croissant was unique and the winner of the two. I also had breakfast there: a side of bacon, breakfast potatoes, the triple berry crepe, and a brown bourbon latte. The latte was delicious, as was the crepe. The crepe is a bit small for a meal and might not fill a lot of people up, but it tasted great. The bacon was supposed to be four strips, but I oddly got 3 1/2 strips. I jokingly mentioned it at the end of my meal, and the guy who helped me place my order brought me out a couple extra slices of bacon. The first bacon order tasted perfectly fine, but the extra slices had a weird gamey taste. The potatoes were also not bad, but they had an odd seasoning on them not unlike seasoned fries. Simple salt and pepper would've been better in my opinion. Still, I enjoyed my breakfast overall. The place doesn't seem particularly authentic as far as being a French joint, so I don't know how the rest of the food is gonna shape up. I would go back though. They have some interesting sandwiches and some other breakfast items that look a bit more hearty. If you haven't been and want a good coffee with a nice pastry or decent breakfast, you cold do worse in Arcadia. I recommend giving them a try.

(Important: There's a $3 Purchase Minimum if paying via Card.) I arrived at Rose Donuts (Temple City) on Wednesday (around 7AM). Parking is tight. The lot is fairly small and busy. Staff speaks Spanish and English. Staff is attentive. Surprisingly, this is a very popular location. It's filled with customers speaking Espanol. Staff is polite and respectful. Staff even explained that their old card fee sticker was outdated and no longer in effect. The ambiance is comfortable. This location is clean and had decent ventilation. There's also several clean tables to sit. They also sell Lotto. I felt welcomed in this business. Overall, Rose Donuts (Temple City) is a good experience. The donuts are fine; staff is diligent; and the spot is respectable. 4.7 out of 5

Donuts, drinks, sandwiches were great. Cronuts not so much.. I've been really craving a cronut lately, many donut shops don't make them anymore. And saw that they still make them and only have a limited amount before they sell out everyday. It would be best to call to see if they have any left before making you way there if that is what you're looking for specifically, which I was. The recent photos of their cronuts looked so good from other people and sadly that wasn't what I got when I stopped by on a Friday morning around 9am. They have a list of filling you can choose from. I chose Custard, wasn't too sweet and just as expected. Cronut itself was almost like a sliced white bread texture- not much layers like a croissant, not really flaky or buttery.. Glaze on the outside was very very sweet and too thick it created a crust.
