Really enjoyed this restaurant. I was able to get a reservation same day by emailing them, which was great because it's a small place and they were full. The food was great. As a vegetarian they were able to suggest things for me that worked for me and even modified one dish to make it vegetarian. I had the puff pastry date rolls which were really good. Then they specialized the black rice dish to be with vegetables for me. That dish was delicious. Great restaurant and very cozy. read more

I want to give 5* for ambience, because it felt so special, cozy, beautiful, and exclusive. I watched at least 30 people get turned away after we sat down. The place is so charming in the Gothic quarter with stained glass and art nouveau decor. They are almost 100% reservation only- even lunch. It just happened that our tour guide Filipa recommended it. The very second her tour ended, we made a beeline for the restaurant. Others in the tour group also followed us, but too late, they wouldn't take anyone else and actually shut the beautiful stained glass front doors to keep the AC in and people without reservations out. Petra had the feel of a secret neighborhood favorite, but the food we had was lacking in flavor. They have a daily set menu which includes a drink desert appetizer and entrée as well as bread for only €16 which seems like a very good deal. To start, I ordered a glass of the house red. It was sour, astringent and not tasty at all. We also tried to order an orange Fanta, but had to settle for a Nestea because they were out of all soda. For our appetizer, I ordered the scrambled eggs with leeks and cod. Although everything was cooked perfectly, the seasoning was very, very mild. Alex didn't like it at all. His appetizer was the beet and tomato gazpacho, which he ate, but didn't really enjoy. I tasted it, and felt it was bland. It was nothing like the tart Mexican and Caribbean gazpacho I have tasted. Then we ordered the rigatoni with hazelnut and I chose fish (i forget which kind because I only overheard the waiter tell someone else and it wasn't printed on the menu) with potatoes. My fish had quite a few tiny bones, and again, while cooking time was perfect, there was very little flavor. Alex had the rigatoni, and just like with the appetizer, he finished it, but didn't enjoy it. I tasted it too- pasta was cooked perfectly, but the sauce was almost nonexistent and the crunch of the hazelnuts clashed awkwardly with the pasta. The choices for dessert were coconut/pineapple ice cream with pineapple soup, melon fruit and one other that didn't sound appealing,( I forget). Alex ate the coconut/pineapple ice cream, but he couldn't stomach the soup. I finished mine, but it was not something I would ever order again. I deeply regret not ordering à la cart. They had foie gras on the menu for €18 which probably would've been much more satisfying. I had high expectation and was really disappointed with the food we ate. The salad we saw people eating around us didn't look interesting at all, though the meat dishes we saw may have been a better choice. Service was really sweet by the waiter, but the busser was not as refined and a little intimidating when he took our order for dessert. During our meal, I paid close attention to other people eating at the restaurant, and most seem to be locals. There was one Asian woman, eating alone, who clearly had scoped the place out as a foodie, but she didn't appear to be thrilled with her food. Also, she may have struggled a bit because she didn't speak Spanish. Our Spanish was much better than their English. I may have forgotten a lot- it was a very hot uncomfortable day and an exhausting 2 hr walk. But I would have remembered more if it had been remotely interesting. Although all the food was beautifully prepared with care, nothing was even close to being as flavorful as the pinxos and vermouth we sampled along Carrer de Blai or that over-priced but tasty tourist trap, Mercat de Boqueria. So many options to eat in this amazing city, I don't think we will be back. read more

Aside from having English menus which was super helpful, the food is extremely solid and the menu del dia (drink, first course, second course, and dessert) was super reasonable at only about €12. And bread for the table was only €0.60 total! (It's becoming increasingly frustrating having to pay a euro or more for each slice of bread, which is just bonkers.) The scrambled eggs and cheese first course was great, not too heavy on the cheese yet nice and hearty. The turkey with coconut and curry sauce surprised me because I didn't know turkey could be so good. First the sauce was super flavorful, a nice light curry. Second the turkey was crispy and not dry at all, which I was expecting since turkey is pretty much always dry. Third it was super light, so the whole lunch was filling yet didn't slow us down for the rest of the day. The dessert though was enjoyable (bananas and chocolate) but nothing special. read more

Visited on June 9th 2019, main course now €12.8 ; pasta €8 ; casserole €9.5 ; salad €8 ; water per bottle €2 ; bread charged per person €.7 even though we didn't order it, small pieces and no refill, and charged the kids too!! Dishes are way smaller than pictures here. Maybe we went on busy day?! My opinions: not worth it.. pasta, salad and casserole are very small portions! And Not good! The casserole was recommended by the waiter/manager- you will get one tiny slice of fish/meat, egg Benedict and slices of potatoes, that's all. Pasta? Just 4 bites size - by my daughter.. If you still want to try here, just order straight for the main course. Price for value is better. Admittedly, They are in a good location, when you have a party of five with kids and after a long visit at the Picasso Museum just steps away, the kids will be hungry and there aren't many choices for family with kids. I am not happy they charged bread per person without telling beforehand. And there isn't special price 3-course meal as mentioned here anymore. read more

This cute restaurant is located in the Barrio Gothic area of Barcelona and is a bit hard to find. It's located on the back side of the Santa Maria del Mar (famous church). I came here with 2 others for lunch around 3:30pm and they still took us. I ordered from the menu del dia which served a 3-course meal with a drink for 12 euro. If you chose to order from the regular menu, each dish was ~5-8 euro, which is very reasonable considering the quality and taste of the food! I got the tuna salad appetizer which was delicious and came with mixed greens and artichokes. My main dish was fish, which was quite tasty, and my dessert was a mango cake with ice cream, so tasty! Overall, it was great food for great value in a nice, off the beaten path restaurant. I would DEFINITELY recommend coming here again- it's not too touristy :) read more

This place was amazing!! It was the best bang for your buck, filled with only locals and really great food. WE all got coffee, desserts, appetizers and maincourse and still the cost was lower than what we paid at all the "tourist traps" - great recommendation by our friends (from LA). The restaurant itself was so cute! They had their menu listed on wine bottles. Most noteworthy - the desserts! the tiramisu and the mango yogurt cake was to DIE for! The vegetarian main course (gnnochi in hazelnut cream and mushrooms was ok. Literally the best meal I've had in Barcelona. We came here as a giant group and they accommodated us so well the entire time. As a vegetarian, it's a little harder to eat in Spain unless you go to a vegan/vegetarian cafe. When they first told me I would be eating vegetables, I rolled my eyes out of disbelief. However, I was so wrong. This dish was by far the most flavorful, yet healthy dish I've eaten in Spain. It looked so simple but was absolutely delicious. Good place for dinner. We arrived at 8:30pm, and of course were the first people there. Can't get used to the late dinners in Spain. By the time we left, the place was packed. I started with a couscous, melon, and anchovie salad that was very good and different from typical american salads. I had the bacalao, which was good, but I keep forgetting that I prefer fresh fish rather than the salted, preserved bacalao. Last time I had it was in Portugal ten years ago, and I seem to forget. But, it was good nonetheless. My wife had salmon salad and then a chorizo pizza, and she loved them, especially the salad. Very interesting and great tasting food for a very reasonable price. The menus are printed on wine bottles, the dessert menu even on a thinner muscat-like bottle if you get to it. :-) We had a really good smoked corn soup with small mozzarella balls that tasted like it had bacon in it, a very tasty tuna carpaccio, a pizzeta (small pizza) with zucchini, heavy Brie, smoked salmon and a few greens and to top it off the duck confit with red wine sauce (a reduction, defiantly with some sort of berries in it) Now, we were two people sharing all of these, so we got to taste more. Really recommend this place. It's very small and either you have to get there just when they open at 20.30 or reserve table. read more

I had a great meal here in this super cute spot after our original destination was jam packed. From the salmon salad (which the salmon appears in a sort of super fresh salsa form) to my mushroom, quail egg, and Serrano ham bake, everything was beautiful and satisfying. My dish contained mushrooms of such a unique variety that I initially thought they were pasta. The only thing I have to note is that I felt like my boyfriend was pressured into buying a bottle of wine somewhat, when we knew we didn't really have room for it. We made it fit, and then passed out promptly after (when that wasn't the intended plan for our night.) Other than that, I definitely recommend. This is truly a good dinner spot. We tried eating here on a Sunday, but, much to our disappointment, it was closed for the day. Not ready to give up, we stopped by on Monday night right after they reopened at around 8:00 p.m. When we arrived, we were the only customers inside. The advantage to eating dinner that "early" (by Barcelona standards) was that we had our pick of a table. We started off with a salad that had mango and pieces of salmon. It was very flavorful. We then had the rigotoni with pine nuts, creamy sauce, and mushrooms. This dish was outstanding. The creamy sauce was very good. We then had chicken with potatoes and fried yuca. The chicken and yuca were very tasty, but the potatoes did not have much flavor. For dessert, I had a piece of yogurt (which had the texture of cheesecake) topped with a mango sauce. It was a great tasting dessert. My fiancee had the crema Catalana, which was a bit too watery, but otherwise good. The service here was good and the food was great. We really enjoyed the menu del dia lunch special with our family of four. With three of us needing to eat gluten free, we were pleased with the gluten free options and all of our food was tasty.
