We have a 45 year old sycamore tree we planted when our first son was born. It is the tallest tree in the neighborhood. Peterson trimed it several years ago, great work, great crew. Now it needed all those shoots that pop out at each cut thinned out. The supervisor used his lazer pointer to show us what was needed to inhance the tree and to help keep it healthy. Once again the crew was gtreat and so was their work. They sycamore has leafed out for the spring and it is gorgious. I had my Chinese elm laced and balanced with Petersons done recently and they did a phenomenal job. I didn't want too much removed and wanted it balanced so it wasn't too heavy on the bit leaning over the house. Arborists are different from gardeners. Of course gardeners offer a great deal, but I've been rejecting their offers, as I kept seeing other neighborhood trees being chopped and hacked too stumpy. I don't know much about trees, but knew enough that I wanted my tree to still look like a tree when it loses it's leaves in winter... UPDATE: Most reviews with this company were positive, so after speaking to my husband and letting some weeks pass I had him call and ask for the same thing and he had no issue at all. Today Jeff "Pete" came by and he was professional, pleasant and intently listened to my concerns with the backyard and provided me with some light feedback; exactly what I was expecting out of an initial visit for an estimate. He promised to come back with a quote tomorrow. I'm grateful that I didn't let one bad experience dissuade me from reaching out again and hope that we can commence a long term relationship. As a Landscape Designer, I know the value of a professional arborist. They 'speak tree'. Never let your gardener trim your trees, they don't have properly cleaned tools and can kill your trees by hacking them into misshapen stumps (a very expensive mistake). Pete and I worked together on a difficult job where I thought we might lose a very mature tree, but Pete's expertise and optimism brought it back. All of their trimmers are certified arborist trimmers. They have maintained my personal trees for over 15 years, keeping my trees well shaped and healthy. We hired Peterson tree works to remove a tree, grind and hand dig the stump, so we could install a new tree in the same spot. We bought a new tree and hired that Nursery to dig the same hole and install the new tree. New company dug down 6 inches and found the old original tree stump that Petersons failed to remove. The new tree was on a flatbed in front of our house along with a crane to lift it over the fence. Needless to say, they were unable to install due to Peterson's failure to remove the stump and returned our tree to the nursery. We made several calls to Jeff (owner) and Mike (salesman) and received no return calls. We were told by their office staff that Jeff was on vacation and unreachable and no one else in the company could help us rectify the situation (salesman?) Weird company to try to work with. I work for a non-profit and we were hoping to get some mulch delivered. Seemed like a great deal to get free mulch! I had submitted a request online and spoke to the same woman multiple times who continued to tell me that we were the first on the list for a mulch delivery, and yet nothing happens. It has been months and whenever I call she keeps saying we're first on the list. I'm getting the feeling that she just doesn't want to work with us, which is fine. It's free mulch, and we're grateful for what we can get. But the idea that she would continue to waste our time seems unprofessional. It has been a disappointing experience. read more

I have used Peterson's for years and always been happy with their service, in spite of its being pretty pricey. This time however, the prices went up and the quality went way down. When my roommate politely asked the crew to keep the back yard gate closed to make sure our dog didn't get out, the person on the crew she spoke to was quite rude to her. In addition, they moved all my backyard furniture around and didn't put it back, tipped over my umbrella, and broke a border fence and never said a word about any of it. For this I paid nearly 3000$? I called and wanted to report my complaint and was told to send pictures to the owner. I did that a week ago and as of now, have had no response whatsoever from the company. I can not be happier with the excellent service provided by Peterson's Tree Works. I had reached out to three companies to get comparison quotes for cleanup of this backyard disaster (see photos), and this is what happened: One company never showed up. One company came out and quoted me a $500 up charge, on top of the regular charge, for a same day cleanup. Then Pete, the arborist from Peterson's showed up. He was professional, on time, knowledgeable, and friendly. He said he would get back to me later with a quote. Within no time, I received it. I called Katie in the office, asked when the work might be done, and waited for her to coordinate. She called right back and said a crew could be there within an hour. I verified that there would be no additional charge for same day service. She said absolutely not. Moises and his crew showed up, and got right to work. I had asked them to please not step on my flowers if possible, and they said they would not. These guys were so efficient, careful, thorough and amazing. I could not believe how quickly they worked their magic. My flowers were not stepped on , and there was literally hardly even one tiny twig left when they completed their cleanup. Today is the second time this company has saved my CA Pepper Tree. A year or so back, I had scheduled them. SA winds came literally the day before they arrived and blew the tree over (young tree). They arrived the next day, pulled it upright, staked it and laced it beautifully. It's much bigger now and SA winds are scheduled for tonight. I had it trimmed in late Sept but it has filled out so fast, I was nervous about how it would do.....I called Juliette at Peterson's and Pete Melin was at my door about 90 minutes later. He trimmed it and staked it beautifully, which isn't easy because it's a multi-trunk. Pete is the consummate arborist, knowledgeable and professional. This company is like a well oiled machine. The crew arrived on time, and in a few hours the job was complete. I had two trees replaced. The old trees were removed, including the roots. The new trees were planted with expert care. They amended the soil, each layer of back-fill was patted down and they made sure the trees were straight. We had Peterson's come out to cut back and anchor vines that were bulging out from a slump stone wall. 3 workers were here less than 11/2 hours and did a very POOR job! See photos. They didn't trim off enough and the branches are still bulging out from the wall with no anchoring. They also did not clean out dead leaves in the branches they did cut. See photos! Quite possible the worst customer service I've ever received. From scheduling the appointment (no one could tell us a time) to waiting to get the quote back (going on 2 weeks) we've had nothing but a bad experience- besides Arborist Pete who came to our property. I have called every other day for the last 2 weeks to follow up on a quote and every time they say "I'll take your information and call you back." I've never gotten a call back and for a job that can cost thousands of dollars for one tree, frustrated is an understatement. I needed trees removed from my back yard. A trim to a tree in the front and the removal of two palm trees shoots in front. The last needed to be hand dug due to proximity to plumbing. What I got was the backyard being cut down and chipped. But no root work done. So those pepper trees are still trying. The big tree trim was decent. They did leave a low hanging branch which is a nuisance. There palm shoots were cut just below ground level. So they've come back. Sadly I will not use this service again and will not recommend them. read more

I had several trees replaced 3 years ago and I wanted to be sure they were properly shaped and healthy as they grew. The first time Petersons trimmed my Olive Tree, it was like a work of art...I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Three years later, it is growing in with a beautiful shape, which would not happen without their assistance. Later, they replaced an Arbutus for me -- and left very detailed care instructions for the first 6 months which helped it grow into a beautiful tree. EVERYONE I've worked with there has always been very polite - from the receptionist to the arborist to the maintenance crew. And, they have always showed up in the time frame originally given, and left the yard in pristine condition. The price is competitive, if not on the low side, compared with other bids. They're not just gardeners, they are professional arborists. And, I can tell the difference in the work. I'm pretty shocked with the recent handful of negative reviews I see posted because they are completely at odds with what my experience has been. They TOTALLY ripped me off. Gave me a quote and i agreed to do only part of the work at this time. They trimmed back about 10' of ivy next to my pool and charged me $400. They sent two guys over and spent 1 1/2 hours, didn't finish the work and left branches and leaves in my pool. I called to ask when they were going to come back to finish the work and clean the pool and they assured me someone would come back to finish the job and clean the pool. No one came back! Now my pool is full of algae. I spoke with Mike and he claims $400 is a reasonable price for cutting 10' of ivy, about 6" back from the edge of the water. I wanted to get the ivy cut back so that my pool guy could get down that side of the pool. My pool guy called me today do say the work they did was useless, he can't get to the pool because they didn't cut enough ivy back and now he has to drain and wash the pool to fix the algae. I'll consider this a preliminary review....if they do good on their word by cleaning up after themselves, like it states in their proposal, and finish the work I'll come back and update this review. At this time I cannot recommend them at all....they are thieves and liars! read more

Once again, it was time for our trees to get their annual trimming. Again, I called Peterson's Tree Works. We've used Peterson's for years and have been VERY happy with their customer service, knowledgeable arborists, and outstanding crews. One thing that always impresses me is the care they take in cleaning up after they're finished. I've never been dissatisfied with their work or their ability to work me into their schedule. As popular as they are, it can be a challenge sometimes, but I take this into consideration and make sure I call a couple of months in advance to allow for being able to get a good schedule option. Jeff was completely rude!!! He is so unprofessional!! I would NOT come back here! They ripped me off, i payed $185 for them to come out and tell me what's wrong with my tree for them to tell me i need to pay money to call another company they referred me too! This is ridiculous! They also dropped one of their shovels on my dahlias THAT JUST BLOOMED!!!! They ruined my plants! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!
