My favorite 24-hour dining establishment on the Peninsula. I don't eat there during the day, because, honestly, there is better food anywhere else at noon. But, if you have a hankering for a German Baby (and you must order ahead, because they take 30 minutes to make), then this is the place for you at 3 AM. Nice, family-style joint where it seems all the neighbors come to eat. I like they have an overflow-like parking lot so yay, free parking! I got a veggie omelette (w/Egg Beaters) and man, was that thing filled to the brim with onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc etc. The only thing a little weird was that it looked more like a scramble than an omelette, the cheese was lumped together in weird places, and it wasn't yellow.. more like a weird burnt brown colour. This has always been a favoriate go-to for late night dinners and breakfast growing up in Millbrae, but our last visit to Pete's wasn't so good. My dad and I were pretty excited to have a meal at Pete's after moving out the area years ago but were very disappointed. It makes me sad to give such a bad review based on the quality of food we got. All 3 of our orders came out looking like something was missing on the plate. Food size were rather meager. Pop's steak and eggs were bland and the cook on the steak was chewy. Babe's omlette looked better than my eggs benedict but he didn't enjoy it much. I loooooove eggs benedict but I wish I had ordered a loco moco when I got my plate. The hollandaise sauce had to be from a packet. Everything was bland and not appetizing. The best thing we had was the unlimited coffee. Maybe next time? read more

I'll give this place 5 stars because they open almost 24/7 and their pancakes are damn good. I love their Hawaiian style Beef Ribs and BBQ Ribs when they serve em. Their burgers and fries aren't bad, a good hearty size enough to fill you up. Beef is good and cooked to order. I've also tried their crab (real crab meat!) and shrimp fettuccine which isn't bad for a diner. I had most of their breakfast items, and while I won't rave about it, everything is pretty solid and enjoyable. But back to their pancakes... I'm usually not a pancake guy but something about theirs is just a bit more tasty and fluffy. Yes, you can goto Stacks over in Burlingame if you want gourmet cakes but I'm not shelling out $6 bucks or more for some pancakes. Most of their food is not bad, however it's the fact you can get it late in the night that makes them special. I've been there totally blasted after a ton of alcohol and been the designated driver, each tine I was grateful they were open and servin' up a meal for us. This place attracts all types of people from old school traditional chinese folks, to the working class white folks and even strange hippies. Everybody loves to come here just to get a grub and chat with Peter. If you love old muscle cars, Peter can talk up a storm with you! He even built his own Hemi! Service during the late evenings can be spotty, but what do you expect? No one can predict how busy it's going to be so just chill out! Definitely frozen in time, but that's what drew me to Peter's Cafe. The umbrella-shaped turquoise roof stands as a beacon from the 50's. It is the anti-Denny's that I hoped for and found. We slid into the turquiose vinyl booth and ordered our breakfasts, Peter's homemade sausage and eggs and the waffle breakfast sandwich. The homemade sausage was a delicious hand-formed patty. The waffle sandwich was really a crispy waffle w/ an egg and two sausage links on the side. Glad to have kept it local. read more

My mom flew into town cross-county on Southwest. Sticklers for time that they are at SWA, she didn't have time to snag a carry-on sandwich at MDW. She dined on a bag of pretzels and Ritz on her seven-plus hour journey. Needless to say, the gal was hungry upon her arrival at SFO. Not wanting to wow her with the glitz and glam of In-N-Out Burger, I dutifully scanned yelp for a decent greasy spoon in the Millbrae area and landed at Peter's. It really hit the spot. We each opted for breakfast dishes. My corned beef hash and scrambled eggs plate was right down the middle. Served with a nice crispy-crusted hash brown. I really should not have eaten the entire plate, but I did. And it was good. The side of sourdough toast was also perfectly executed, still crispy despite the generous helping of butter. Mom had a simple eggs and bacon plate and was highly satisfied. Not that it takes much after SWA fare, but Peter's really came through. Definitely recommend if you happen to be in the area and need a diner fix. read more

Food is so good we came here for a brunch . I got Swedish pancakes an egg and sausage for about 12.00 the pancakes were delicious. My son enjoyed the French toast and he liked it also. People are friendly and coffee was hot. Will be back soon. read more

Peter's still gets at least 3 stars from all the other times I have had great food here. But, in my quest for a monte cristo sandwich I unfortunately ate theirs. Revolting is really the first word that comes to mind. Now I admit I've never had one before so its unfair with nothing to compare it to. But the descrpition is far from what I got. Ham, turkey and swiss? The cheese wasn't real. It was the processed swiss-flavored kind. And I am telling you the turkey was bad. It tasted off. You know when you come across off food because the moment you taste it you know something is wrong. This was definitely WRONG. I was not at all surprised with the sromach pains and vomitting that came later in my day. So I still say yay for Peters, but DO NOT eat that sandwich, or any thing else with turkey in it. read more

So there's definitely a hype about this place. it USED to open 24 hours and it used to be pack like all the time. I had lunch with 2 of my friends today. Went in around 12. it wasnt packed at all. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which i normally loved ( and i absolutely adored the one they have at Millbrae Pancake House). Basically 2 poached eggs with ham on top of 2 english muffins and topped with hollandaise sauce. sounds good doesnt it? I expected it to be good too. Side was hashbrowns. When the food came, i thought the portion was small. Nothing special. Taste wasnt special. The hashbrowns was disappointing though. It was mushy and the inside was flavorless. Not appealing at all. Took a couple bites and stopped. My guy friend ordered the chicken quesadilla and he seemed content and happy with his food. It was descent sized and came with ranch and salsa on the side. You might wanna give that a try? But honestly i dont know what the hype is all about. One of the servers totally ignored me when i asked for more water. And the lady who took our order seemed impatient and came over to our table 3 times when we told her we need some time and we were waiting for a friend. WTF? I have only tried one thing here so I am reluctant to say too much here. - decor: avg CA diner.. - service: avg, water pitcher is placed on the table so you can do your own refills. - food: tried the avocado cheese burger, it's tasty, medium rare correctly done, and fairly juicy, came with the ride amount of sides so you can decide what to put into your burger, I appreciate the choice. - the person next to me ordered the "breaded pork chop" and it looked delicious! the salad that came with her meal was huge as well, definitely better than the soup option that other people got. -- location! I've been comming here for the past 6-7 years when it was a 24/7 operation. Missed the days after a night out at SF, I come here for a meal. I would normally have a breakfast meal, no matter what time of day it is. But today, I came in on around 5:30p. It was slow and mostly, the seniors were the majority of the customers. I had one of the specials. It was the "homemade" chicken fried steak. You can have soup or salad. Had the latter of the 2 with italian dressing, and the crotoons are hard as hell! The sides were mash potato topped with country gravy, fresh veggies that consists of big chunks of brocolli, cauliflour, carrots, zucinni. Service is good and the servers are attentive. It sucks that it's no longer open 24/7 because of the rowdiness that occured at the wee hours of the morning. But, I will always come here whenever I'm in Millbrae. read more

Friendly Service Great for Breakfast Ok decor 3.5 stars I've eaten here for breakfast and late night meals. So far my preference has been the breakfast. For $8 you get a hearty portion of eggs, pancakes, sausage patties, and hash browns. I might be wrong but I believe it's family owned. With that in mind the service is always friendly and attentive. The only problem I have is the decor which reminds me of my aunt's home. It's full of Nick knacks that don't belong to each other. Peter's Cafe seems to have been around for years and years. For the exact date, you'll have to contact the owner, who can be found walking about frequently. This average diner is decorated with hot-rod related items, from automobile models to pictures, etc. The interior setting likewise has that 'ol Happy Days" look with matching pastel blue hues and shiny chrome pieces. Service fluctuates between attentive and flag-down-hard during busy times. I always feel bad for the waitresses, who just seem so busy and tired all the time, they can't help but appear a little disheveled or short on pleasantries and fluff. Recently I believe the cafe has changed from a 24-hour place to regular business hours, possibly to save money during these hardened times. The food is average here, nothing memorable, although I am pleased to say they are a proud server of the Hawaiian local favorite, the artery choking, "Loco Moco". My mouth just salivates thinking about it. Unless you have a particular dish you are in love with here, I see this place as a last resort place to grab a bite, as the prices are reasonable and it's in a convenient location near freeways and gas stations. read more

A decent diner cafe breakfast! Parking is easy. Prices are reasonable. I usually just stick with the staples of omelets and eggs, but once we did try the german pancake ( i think that is what it is called), takes 30 minutes. I wasnt sure what to expect, but when it came out our mouths dropped. It is huge!! Taking the first bite i was surprised... not too sweet or doughy... which is how it kinda looks. I liked it! With syrup, definitely not a bad breakfast! Although the 30 minute wait is a little long! Once in a blue moon i will order this. We have always had decent service, they do keep the water glass filled. Nothing exceptional, but they do ask how you are doing in the middle of the meal. read more

A nice diner near the Millbrae BART. Their sizes are pretty massive so you get what you pay for and the food is pretty rich but that is what to expect from an American diner. The menu is huge and flexible, accessible, and the staff is friendly and totally cool about sharing. I got a BLT with a side of fries and then they come out with a huge dinner plate where half of it is fries and the other half is the sandwich! I needed help to eat it but fortunately others were around to help me out. We also arrived 20 min before closing but they were totally cool with us there. We probably left about 45 min after as the food came out fast. A few others even walked in after us and they were served as well. My dad pulled into this parking lot the other day..... we got out, and when I saw where we were going, my stomach stayed to turn just from thinking about it. I firmly told dad "No, we're NOT eating there." I remember the food was bad last time (went about a year ago). Dad didn't listen, and took my sister there for breakfast. They both came back to the hotel with sick stomachs. Now the hotel bathroom smells cause they've been sick all day. We're all working an event here, and now they are really sick, and my sister can't even work. She puked like 6 times. I'd suggest not eating there if you don't want food poisoning. This place is another of my favorite finds in Millbrae! It's a great place to grab brunch on weekends or catch a late-nite diner type of meal. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, they're very amenable to requests, and the food is consistently good. I haven't tried them, but I hear the Swedish pancakes are delicious. We visited this location after not wanting to eat at the mall and were pleasantly surprised. The meal wasn't stellar, but did meet our expectations to merit an okay rating. On the plus side, the portions, especially for the prices, are very generous. The salad, which was one of the better garden ones we have had, was topped with rather fresh croutons and an amble supply of dressing. The burger also came with half an avocado, which is way more than I have ever seen given with an "avocado burger". The fries were just right too, not to greasy but with a good amount of flavor. The service was also friendly. On the downside, the grilled chicken we ordered was pretty forgettable, and easily the weakest part of the meal. This was my third visit and I dined alone. I received good and very inviting treatment when walking in. I'm saying this because some places are very indifferent when you're eating by yourself...maybe they think you're a cheep-O. Anyway, I ordered the side order of spaghetti and side order of salmon. The salmon was very lean and had a good crisp on both sides. The spaghetti sauce was in need of improvement as it was very watery and not my idea of sauce but like a minestrone broth. This place is historic to Millbrae and definitely a land mark. Does not look too attractive outside but definitely worth going into. Great lighting inside and corner view of outside . I used to come here all the time as a kid and after 10 years coming back to my home town it was awesome coming back. I recognized the owner and few of the servers . Great food and coffee. Had the eggs, bacon and sausage and it was spot on. A carafe if coffee is placed in front of you and you fill up your old school brown ceramic mug. This place is very traditional American diner and is what made me love going to diners still today. The city of Millbrae has changed over the years with new buildings and chain restaurants but it is great that places like this remain and still stand. read more

Everytime we drive through Millbrae, the parking lot is always full. We got to try this place I told my husband. And with my luck, we did. With our good friends, we had a late dinner at Peter's Cafe. I ordered there spaghetti and meat sauce, my husband had the Aloha Burger, my girlfriend had the fettucine and alfredo, and her fiancee also ordered the Aloha Burger. Everything was very good. Peter's is a DINER. Diners are inherently hit-or-miss in my experience, and accordingly, my 3-star review represents an average of several stops at Peter's, ranging from hit to miss. Peter's exemplifies booth-or-counter dining. It's surprisingly light and open inside, with a typical 60s rambling floor plan, but you will still smell like diner for hours afterwards. You can't really go wrong with egg dishes from Peter's. Omelettes, fried eggs, scrambled - all delicious and creamy but cooked perfectly. I've had many such brunches in the past and have not been disappointed. Today, against my better judgement, I tried the Swedish pancakes. Plus: pancakes were melt-in-your-mouth spongy and delicate, slathered with lackluster lingonberry butter. Unfortunately, they'd been cooked on a griddle that had probably just seen a tuna melt, so one side of the pancakes had an off-putting salty fishy tang that was hard to ignore, even with the addition of ordinarily unnecessary maple syrup. So, as long as you're prepared for an occasional "miss" and some definite "hits", give Peter's a shot. It's a Diner with a capital "D", but will more often than not fit the bill nicely without killing the pocketbook. read more

Came in on a Sunday morning. 3 people total. Pro: -restaurant seems clean -server greeted us -server gave us enough time to look at the menu -server is friendly and polite -foods came out quick -the only plate that is hot and tasty was the Loco Moco -open late Con: -2 persons' foods are warm/cold -hair on the plate (eww!!) -server's hand touched the hashbrown when she was putting the plate down (enough said...) -hash brown and omelette were not crispy at all (omelette literally overcooked/burnt, and looks like home-cooked ugly scrambled eggs! Hashbrown tastes like mashed potato, saggy, mushy...in other words, presentation and quality of foods are bad. I can cook the same things at home, and I'm very bad at cooking.) -The pancake's presentation doesn't look good either (light yellow colored pancakes, anyone?$ Taste is okay. -1 person finished the water before foods arrived. The cup is emptied, no one brothers to refill it, or come and ask if everything is fine, until at the end. Bottomline, Customer's service is friendly, but not very attentive. 2 out of 3 plates are tasteless/colorless/cold. 1 plate is delicious. Food came out fast. As for us, we probably wouldn't come back, unless absolutely necessary. Since this is a local restaurant, we'd probably choose this over Denny's or IHOP. Otherwise, we'd prefer Millbrae Pancake House instead, only down side is they open until afternoon only. read more

Just one note about the traditional milkshake I got here. I had about 25 mins. to kill on a BART - Caltrain transfer. I informed the waitress of this and promptly the waitress retrieved a milkshake for me. Slightly pricey at $3.95, it was worth the milk and sugar. They even managed to put some whipped cream topping on top of my take-out milkshake! No complaints there! read more
