I love this place. They always serve hot food and big portions. Must try: Hot wings Loco Moco sampler- french fries, popcorn shrim, and chicken tenders I had many more dished but these are my top 3. Everytime I go here we never have to wait long for our food. I go here during lunch and dinner. I only been here for breakfast twice and the breakfast was great. Luke's Diner to The Gilmore Girls, is Peter's Cafe to my family and me. We've been residents of Millbrae for about ten years now and we love it here. Peter, his family that runs the cafe and the cafe itself is a part of what we love about this town. The cafe is on the is on the 'vintage' side but that is what gives it its character. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?" The food is a step above Denny's offering more variety on their menu. Yes, at times you may be subjected to bubble guts if you order something fried and greasy; so you may want to give yourself a minute to determine if you should use the bathroom if you have somewhere to go after your meal. Other than that, it is a great place to have a meal with your family or alone. If we are not looking for anything fancy, we come to Peter's Cafe. Okay it's a 3.5, but because I know how it used to run, menu and service used to be... I know it used to be a 4 star(and possible still is, but maybe we just went on a bad day). It is worth a try for a solid diner type breakfast, so please go at least once. One it's still gets really busy here and a SOLID diner for breakfast. Get here early or you may have a long wait. Ambiance has the old school feel of a true diner joint, and pretty solid menu selections including some unique menu items which lean towards the hawaiian menu (teriyaki pork chops, spam and eggs, and loco moco), but has some European influence with German Baby Pancakes. But really other then it's a diner joint don't expect fancy! Location - good enough for parking, beside the bart station, so you can walk there from bart. However, there's plenty of parking. Service was good - 3.5 of 5 had to call our waitress out a few times for drinks and our pancakes, but she was really busy. Food was good - 3 of 5 Teriyaki Pork Chops with eggs (3.5 of 5) - Our favorite which normally has the right balance of sweet and saltiness, but the day we went it was a bit on the salty side. However, still nice a moist. For my Asian community, you have the options to choose RICE =) Pancakes (4 of 5) The kids loved the pancake nice and fluffy Omelettes (3.5 of 5) the omelettes were pretty basic , but it was cooked well, my parents were able to switch their hashbrowns with fruits. German Baby/ Dutch Pancake (3 of 5 plain, 4 of 5 German Apple Pancake) The German Baby Dutch pancake (if a pancake and bread pudding had a baby this would be it), got it plain BUT recommend you try it with APPLE heard that's much tastier version. IT'S HUGE (1.5-2inches tall), but TAKEs FOREVER like 25-30mins, so if you want to try it order ahead or be prepared to wait (and wait). IF YOU want to try something slightly different, it comes with lemon (swedish style) add the lemon and ask for extra powder sugar. Makes it more like lemon cake yum. The blueberry cheese blintz with the crepes, the cream cheese filling was good, but the crepes (used to be nice thin with just a hint of crisp) was sadly a little thick and under done. This used to be a solid 4 star in terms of food and consistency, but maybe we went on a bad day. The owner peter is still there and a great guy, but have been trying to sell this place that maybe some of the management is not quite as diligent as it used to be. I originally headed down Millbrae to eat at Millbrae Pancake House, but they had a line out the door and wrapping around the parking lot. I wasn't going to wait for that. But luckily, my trusty phone and yelp app let me know that breakfast food was minutes away at Peter's. Walking in, it looks like your typical old styled diner with a breakfast bar and an array of bright teal booths. They have a "specials" menu right out front that isn't reflected on the menu itself, so pay attention when you walk in. What we ordered: 1. Smoked Salmon Benedict with Hashbrowns Although it was far from the best hollandaise I've ever had, the plate itself was stacked. Great value. Every bite had more than enough salmon to accompany it and the hashbrowns were nice and crispy. I was satisfied. 2. Double Cheeseburger This 2/3 pounder was huge, but my brother still managed to devour it in record time. the burger looked juicy and was presented nicely. Leaves of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and mayo was served on the side. Everything looked fresh. 3. Banana Walnut Waffles I would say that this was the most disappointing looking dish. It was just one thin waffle. However, it was topped with thick, fresh cut bananas and whole walnuts. Syrup, powdered sugar, and whipped cream were all served on the side rather than drowned prior to delivery. 4. Strawberry Banana Crepe Two huge crepes stuffed with fresh bananas and strawberries. It was more of a Swedish pancake than your typical crepe, but it was still very good. Drinks: In terms of drinks, coffee has the most value. They left us an entire pot when we only had 1 order. Only 1 refill for a soda order. No refills on the juice, which by the way, is not fresh squeezed. Service: Jamie was incredibly nice and attentive as was the lady in the front who came over and had a nice conversation with us when it wasn't very busy - we were probably the new faces amongst the sea of regulars at Peter's. read more

The staff was so friendly and checked in often. Soda was refilled. Right across from Millbrae train station. Glad I missed the first train and had time to stop in. I'll admit -- I never knew this place existed, even after making that oh so dreaded right turn where everyone wants to cut everyone else off. Thank you, Yelp, for helping me find this place! Came in on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't much of a wait. The restaurant was nice and busy, but not overstuffed and crowded with a 2 hour wait (ahem, bay area brunch spots). Waitstaff was friendly and the food was delicious. It's close to Bart. It's got a big parking lot. What more could you ask for? What we got: Monte Cristo -- Apparently there's a way to do Monte Cristo and this is the way. French toast, ham, cheese, powdered sugar, strawberries, etc. Banana Walnut Pancakes -- Exactly what it sounds like. Bananas and walnuts in a fluffy pancake. Delicious Handmade Sausage Patty with eggs -- Doesn't look like much when it comes out. In fact, it looks like a hamburger patty. But it's full of flavor and deliciousness. We ordered Canadian Bacon with hash brown, scrambled egg and 2 pancakes and Corned beef with Hash, pancakes and scrambled egg.. It was really good, corned beef was soft and tasty and their pancakes are very delicious.. Yesterday myself and two of my colleagues ordered 2 chicken salads and the third one was a substitute of the chicken with salmon, the chicken has no taste at all not even salt was added, it was like a piece of plastic added to the salad, the one had the salmon also had the same complain. The greens and the lettuce was not fresh and it seemed like whoever made our order was in a rush and tossed a very big pieces of lettuce in our boxes and we have to deal with it and make our salad. Besides those big two slices of tomato and cucumber that was just added to the salad for garnishing our whatever. I love coming here. They have the most amazing service and delicious food every time. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they are always up to par for me. For breakfast the chorizo quesadilla is surprisingly good and BIG, comes with fresh red salsa. Mmm. The waffle with strawberry topping is always a good way to go. My lunch favorite is the chicken fried steak sandwich with fries. Been coming here for a while and I'd have to say I love the mozzarella sticks and homemade marinara sauce.The hot wings as an appetizer are pretty bomb too. For dinner, the chicken parmesan is delicious but not always on the menu. I could go on and on about how great everything tastes, but you should definitely try it for yourself. read more

The food is like Denny's so don't expect much and you'll be happy. :). My boyfriend and all his friends love the fettuchini alfredo and have compared it to being on the same level as the Van's (which btw has the best alfredo anywhere I've ever been to). Which the alfredo is pretty good... Make sure to let them know if you are splitting the bill before hand, the bitchy, 35-year-old, overweight waitress who works graveyard won't help you at all, and she will be a complete asshole. The old lady (I think the owners wife) works swing and grave and she's HELLA cool, she will greet you, and serve you, and help you, and ring you up. Huge overhead sign outside, plenty of booth-seating, friendly service, fast turn-around on orders, huge portions of decent comfort food, and a menu that made me feel like I was back home in NJ. My dining partner was a bit intimidated by the size of his order of Corn Beef Hash and Eggs with Hash Browns, yet ended up scarfing it down. I ordered one of the daily specials: a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Croissant Sandwich. Expecting a modest sandwich, I was awestruck to find that it was raised on the Texan Croissant Farm -- where croissants are large and in charge. The sandwich packed a lot of egg, a little bit of cheese, and as always, never enough bacon. Even with a lacking amount of cheese and bacon, the sandwich was pleasant and pretty cheap; next time I'll offer to pay extra to get more cheese and bacon. The food didn't blow me away, but I enjoyed my visit to Peter's Cafe. The menu is large and diverse, so I know where I'm coming next time I need to satisfy a NJ diner nostalgia trip. The Oven Baked Puff Pancake sounded great, especially the German Baby flavor. I've never tasted German babies! Unfortunately, we were in a rush and the dish takes 30 minutes to prepare. I've had their burgers here and it was really suprisingly good. Breakfast: they give you your own pot of coffee to refill. Very convenient. Really shouldn't be drinking more than what they provide to begin with. German Pancakes! Oh My! Takes 20 minutes to make. As you're sitting there waiting in anticipation ... I tend to wonder if it's even worth the wait. 20 minutes is a LONG time. Never disappoints. The pancake comes out nice and fluffy. It's flavorful. It's ... hard to describe. You just have to try it out yourself. It's nothing like and SO much better than the version they serve at IHOP, but that's not really saying much, I guess. read more

"Yawn... what about the food? How does Peter's compare to Millbrae Pancake House??" So we ordered: - Loco Moco (my order; tasty and totally hit the spot - the hamburger patty had a nice charbroiled quality to it, my requested over medium eggs were perfectly cooked, and I love how you can choose pancakes with your order!) - "Big Phil's" omelette (fairly tasty but standard omelette; it looked more like a scramble though) - Chicken fried steak (OK; the execution on the breading and gravy were disappointing) - Cheese steak sandwich (didn't get to try, but it looked like it had lots of meat) The pancakes were fluffy but otherwise unmemorable. A delicious orange juice and a hot chocolate piled high with whip cream, one free refill! Hubby ordered a sausage and cheese omelet, comes with hashbrowns or fruit and toast or pancake. Till today, I have always ordered my food ahead for pick up. Today, I ate inside. I describe myself as an observant, detail oriented person, sometimes to my detriment. Well to start, the waitress sat me down, before even sitting, I asked if I could order, as I had a train to catch and didn't want to race through breakfast. She said she would be right back. It took about 5 minutes for her to come back, I kept track because upon entering the cafe, I had exactly 29 minutes to order, eat and make it to the train. Being nervous about making the train, I kept looking to see if the food was ready for pickup and delivery to the table. During this time our waitress has accepted payment for meals, etc. At no time did I see her wash her hands, then I see her pick up toast with her bare hands and butter it. I was hoping it wasn't my toast. But then she brings the dishes towards our table. I'm thinking "F, well I'm not eating the toast." Then as she gets to the table I see that the plate the toast is on is sitting on top of my hash browns. So whatever dirt or germs that were sitting on the counter top is now sitting on my potatoes. I am a self diagnosed germaphobe and that made my skin crawl. People in the food industry really should be better trained to keep food free from any kind of contamination. The food that I actually ate was tasty as usual, but then again there aren't many ways to mess up eggs and bacon. The potatoes were not extra crispy as ordered, but then again I only ate from the area that the plate wasn't sitting on, unfortunately, it was a big plate. read more

It gives you the feel of a diner you would find along side route 66 somewhere near UFO land, Somewhere the Brady bunch family would come to for breakfast. I honestly feel they should leverage that. How awesome would it be to have a 60s themed diner. I would recommend making it more 60ish. Invest in that theme. Now let's talk about the staff/service. As we walked in we were greeted by a young lady with a big smile and gave us the option to sit anywhere we'd like. By the way this place has nice big windows giving you bunch of light where ever you sit. We picked a booth next to the window over looking El camino real. The waitress came quick with our menus and took our drinks. She was really nice by the way. Now let's get to the food I orders the loco moco with 3 eggs 2 poached and one sunnyside up that came with 2 buttermilk pancakes. My son ordered waffles with bacon which he enjoyed. My food was Good not great the gravy was a little bland I had to add a few shakes of salt and some tapatio. But the eggs were on point. The dish wasn't bad, but Could be better. My boyfriend and I have come here twice. First time we got the challenger burger (definitely need more cheese!) and spicy house-made sausage patty (definitely tasty and spicy!) with eggs. Second time, we got the teriyaki pork chop and eggs (the teriyaki sauce is not enough. A bit on the sour side? Usually teriyaki sauce is sweet) and loco moco (lacking flavor a bit). I've eaten at Peter's Cafe few times with my mom and sis and thought it would be nice to eat with my daughter and her husband and my two grandchildren (2 and 6 years old) ...well I am extremely disappointed and I felt the racism. We were given a table right away that wasn't really good as we where at least 15 ' apart but that wasn't the worst ... We had to get our own menus and after 20 minutes one nice person gave us some water, we then ordered but our easy orders took 40 minutes ,, mind you we had two small children. Man, this was the place we'd always hit up every time we'd head back home from the City...and this place was always happening....at 3am! They are not 24hrs anymore and haven't been for a while now. I believe they open from 6am-9:30pm. But I've also heard they might stay open longer in the upcoming months! sah-weeet! In anycase, when we do come here, I come for mainly two things. 1 - Teriyaki Pork Chops! 2 - ANY of their pancakes! Teri pork chops are goood! Order an extra scoop off rice! hehe, well I always do. My family has been coming here for about 50 years. The food is great & the service is awesome however, last night, my car WAS BROKEN INTO IN THE PARKING LOT. So this review is to warn other consumers about the break ins. 1. There is a sign on the door warning to not leave valuables in the car. 2. There was only a purse in the car that was well concealed. 3. We were parked RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT. 4. When my car was broken into, I told the server that I would only come here during the day & she laughed a bit and said "They do it in the daytime too". I was very turned off by that response because it must happen often for them to know that. I would think that they would be concerned about the safety of their customers and either install MORE LIGHTING, CAMERAS or HIRE A SECURITY GUARD. I have been a loyal customer to this restaurant but after last night, I will not be returning to this restaurant unless I am taking the train or bart which would be close to never. I truly hope that they take this review and solutions into consideration because break-ins will overall hurt the business in the long run. read more

This place is amazing. The menu is huge & there is lots to choose from, including some Hawaiian favorites. The staff is friendly and very attentive. I had the tuna melt which was delicious, and we also ordered the apple popover (they call it a German pancake I think) and it was amazing - make sure to ask for some maple syrup with it. But take into account that it's huge, so it's good to share. It also has a great diner feel with pleather booths & countertop seats.
