Great diner that is an actual Worcester diner car although they have attached to a building offering some additional seating and kitchen space. They also have a picnic tables out front so you can eat outside as well. I had been here for breakfast in the past a bunch of times and always been pleased. Now I stopped in for lunch during another one of my drives to Rutland. I had the meatball sub with fries and it was very good. The meatballs and sauce were good although I don't think they were homemade. It was a very large portion and the price was very low so it was a great combo. First what an awesome building! I entered around 7:30am and it was already packed, the only reason I got a table versus the bar was because someone was leaving as I walked in. I ordered poached eggs (which not many places can make right) and they even served them on my toast for me like I do at home. The toast was thick sliced instead of the usual thing crispy diner toast. On the side were the potatoes and just like everything else they were delicious. Good, cheap food. No, you don't expect extreme quality or anything gourmet, but it's really cheap and the waitress that I had was one of the nicest people I'd run into in a long time. I've been going to this diner since the late 70's...it was better then, sadly. Blueberry pancakes were pretty good, but jeez guys why can't you make home fries???! The Diner has been thoughtfully remodeled, thanks to the required closures caused by COVID-19 including new flooring and redone bankettes. It still retains all the features of a dining car. My Mother and I visited on Wednesday, August 12th, and chose inside dining due to the hot weather. All the COVID-19 precautions were in place, and it was spotless. The waitstaff was great, and the food better. My Mom had the BLT with onion rings. I had the Rueben with potato salad. Great. The desserts (blueberry and apple pie) were delicious. Decent for diner food- staff have always been accommodating every time we go in. They're happy to have kids in there even when they're antsy. Outdoor seating in summer is key. The food is greasy but what else can you expect from a diner? They do offer gluten free toast for this if you wondering. All in all I would say the food is average for diner quality but certainly on the greasy spoon side of things. Avoid! This place is a total dump. It's a super cute and quintessential diner set up, with your typical grease-pit breakfast and lunch fare. But the waitresses are what make it a no-go. They are all super rude and gruff, like they hate their lives and more so, their customers. I've been a waitress for many years and it's a tough job. So, I'm giving this place a three instead of a four because of 1. the service, and 2. the price is too high for a diner. I have been coming here for quite some time, but only occasionally. The last time I went here, their prices went up. I was a little disappointed. We got a bowl of onion rings, which was HUGE, for around $4, I'd say that's priced right. We got the homemade chocolate cake for desert and that was tasty. Overall we were pleasantly surprised with the food. It's your typical townie diner. You shouldn't expect gourmet here! Seems like we waited forever and when asked our sour waitress out what was going on, she growled back something about wising she was the cook so she could tell me when I was going to get it. I have been to the diner a million times- I only go for breakfast (I don't love their lunch foods) and now not sure about their breakfast. My last time was less than good. Ordered a basic breakfast- eggs, meat, home fries (crispy) and toast with a coffee. Everything seemed okay till I moved the toast and found the home fries to be barely cooked- they were hard and clearly not crispy. I asked that they get cooked. The waitress was great and immediately handed back to the cook (he on the other hand looked annoyed and seemed to not feel it was necessary). It took about 5 minutes and I had the food back. I proceeded to eat to then find a hair in my food. Argh! I went to drink my coffee to tip the cup and find a dried noodle on the inside of the mug. I gagged- paid and left. I didn't even want to point this out nor would it had mattered, as the crew was busy trying straighten out about 4 orders with the cook who was fighting back that he had done the orders correctly. Will Not Be Going Back! To the owner- clean up your act. Make sure the cook understands that the customer is right and then have the dishwasher actually wash the dishes. To think this is where presidential candidates go!!
