The hamburger patty smelled really bad, as if the meat was beginning to spoil. And I was very disappointed to find velveeta was the chefs choice of "cheese product" on the burger. I have NEVER been served any item in a restaurant that contained artificial cheese. The chef should go back to culinary school and learn the basics. I was very impressed during a recent trip to New Hampshire when my local friends brought me to Bantam Grill. I mean, I understand the decor is a little ehhh (photos of chickens on the wall although funny doesn't really complete the look if you get my drift). Looks aside, if I lived in the area or visited again I would happily return. I know my friends frequent the joint quite regularly. The bread was hot and served with oil and balsamic. A good way to hold off hunger until dinner arrived. The menu features a lot of really enticing items. Portions are quite large and prices are pretty low (I guess I'm used to big city prices so I could definitely get used to this!). I really love that the pasta is homemade. Speaking of pasta, the dish I tried was called Lamb Strangozzi. This is a pasta shape I am unfamiliar with. I was told it was a thick fettuccine and that's exactly what it was. The lamb ragu was rich and decadent. Along with the chewy pasta, it created a dish that was comforting on a cool night when I was craving carbs (and apparently stewed meat as well). My friends enjoyed the scallops and bbq brisket, and both looked fantastic and featured large portions (the scallop dish included 6 hearty scallops, which is very generous for a scallop dish by usual standards). I can happily say that Bantam Grill impressed me with its food. If it were located in my local area, I might not run there, but I'd happily walk to try the food again. In an area with less options than Providence, I would definitely run there. I think it's a great spot overall! read more

Servers might want to notice how many are uneaten, and it's not because of abundance. Duck legs -- a signature winner, increasingly overcooked almost to unpalatable. Made me want to cry. Salads are still strong, if not overdressed. Squash ravioli were tooo al dente swimming in a greasy sage butter. Dishes are way off the mark from where this place started. We stumbled upon this place when another restaurant we are planning on going to had an hour waiting list. Don't let the location deter you. When you walk in, it is a beautiful, cozy space that in no way says strip mall. The overall food vibe seems to lean toward Italian, but not your average spaghetti and meatball type of Italian. We started with the burrata and speck appetizer. The cheese was so smooth and creamy and paired with the salty speck and port braised figs, it was heavenly. We also had the calamari which was crispy and perfectly cooked and went so well with the spicy marinara. I had the beef bolognese which is made with ribeye and handmade pappardelle pasta, and definitely what dreams are made of. Hubby had the smoky carbonara, and at one point, I thought he was going to lick his plate clean. My only complaint was that I didn't have more room to try more things. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will absolutely be back soon. read more

We had lunch at this little gem off the 202 highway, serving eclectic local and American food. My husband had onion soup and a chicken ranch sandwich and I had pumpkin soup and a tuna melt. The pumpkin soup was so thick it was like whipped cream - delicious. They serve wine and beer with lunch and a full bar with dinner, and there is a board that lists all the local farms where they get their produce. To start off, our server was excellent. Friendly, attentive, great with the recommendations. I ordered the drink special and wow... so good! They do know how to make a good cocktail! The food started with warm foccacia with olive oil and balsamic. It was good. What came next was better... the burger with bacon, cheese, caramelized onions and mushrooms, perfectly cooked... delicious. The steak with Gorgonzola sauce, green beans and polenta, was also really, really good. The ultimate ending was the lava cookie with condensed milk ice cream. Literally one of the best desserts I have ever had. Hot cookie around melted chocolate topped with sweet yumminess.... oh my. I was passing through Peterborough last night and came across this hidden gem! It's got a nice ambiance with a "chicken ??" motif. Sat at the cozy bar with wood countertops and cute twinkle lights, with my companion. Bar fits about 12 diners and entire restaurant has maybe 30 tables. Noise level was low, so chatting With those around me was very comfortable with bluesy music in the background. The food: Great selection of meat, chicken, fish but with some interesting recipes. I wanted to try all of them! We started with a soup and a salad. The soup was amazing! Cheddar Broccoli at perfect temperature and consistency (not "gloppy" like you sometimes get) with buttery and savory notes. Salad was fresh with variety of greens and a light, tasty vinaigrette. Yum! I had the short rib special on a bed of cheesy polenta with broccoli and cauliflower. It melted in my mouth --it was so delicious! My dining partner had The pastrami style brisket. Another tasty dish with lots of flavors- slow roasted to perfection. The bartender: After a brief discussion with the bartender, he chose me a velvety Cabernet to complement my meal And a local brew for my friend. He was knowledgeable on both and was mixing some blood orange specialty drinks for some of the other patrons that I will definitely try next time I come back. Bantam Grill during Covid was really a great take out restaurant. The service was fast and people were masked. We ordered French onion soup, brussel sprouts, a burger with wedge fries. Food was cooked and prepared quickly, deliciously hot, plus the ingredients tasted fresh! We requested the burger to be cooked at medium and the burger was cooked perfectly with juicy interior and a great crust. I cannot express how awesome the fries were. They were delectable, crunchy, substantial, and still with pillowy potato. The French onion soup was hearty with that thick beef stock rounded out by newly Swiss cheese. Although it wasn't crispy as it normally can be fresh out the kitchen in a ramekin, the soup was the kind of soup you want in the fall months, decadent and warm. I think the one dish that was slightly underwhelming was the brussel sprouts. They needed more acidity with lemon or a balsamic, as the saltiness felt one note and I thought they could be crisper. Over all though, Bantam gives you a casual dinner experience with a slight nudge to elevated tastebuds. If I find myself in Peterborough, I'll definitely return. read more

So, my husband and I finally made it to Bantam after months of having it recommended to us from locals. We recently relocated to Peterborough. My husband called ahead to make a reservation and advised them that the occasion was our 10th wedding anniversary. We weren't expecting a parade, but previous restaurants have at least mentioned "Happy Anniversary". Bantam staff made no acknowledgment of our occasion. Which, was kind of a bummer. This isn't enough for me to have deducted stars normally, but paired with the unpalatable meal I was served, I feel that three stars is adequate for our experience. I ordered the special, and it was a huge miss. It was pan fried trout with a hash, and I believe the chef may have hoped to have created a delicious crispy (edible) skin by doing so. This may have been possible, had it not been for the extremely heavy hash (?) that was loaded on top of the fish. I kid you not, there had to have been two cups of this stuff piled (read: dumped) on top of such a delicate tasting fish. The hash had what I think was bacon lardon, sausage, potatoes, artichoke hearts, and asparagus sautéed in a very heavy tasting pan sauce. I could barely even taste the fish. If I could suggest a different preparation; I would have suggested a light salad, or whipped potatoes, blanched asparagus, and the pan fried trout separate (or skin side up) on the plate to maintain the crispness of the skin. Had I known the trout was going to be drowning in this hash, I definitely would not have ordered it. It looked like a mess on the plate as well. My husband ordered the squid ink pasta which he said was good, and the cocktails were also very well made. Service was fine. Oddly, we've been to the owner's other restaurant next door called Pearl, and had an excellent meal! I will definitely try them again, but I'll be sure to ask more information about how my selection is prepared/plated. read more

First time here for lunch. I got the French onion soup. It was tasty but not hot. The cheese was barely melted. I sent it back and it still was not hot enough and the cheese should of been golden brown. I got the fish and chips. It was good. The fish are thin pieces with not a lot of batter. The fries were good and the cabbage slaw lacked flavor. The salad was good, but a bit over dressed. The pasta dish was amazing. We will try again. Creative drink menu and friendly staff. read more

In town Visiting - we stopped in for a casual meal. Bantam is a Bar /Grill lots of booths and some tables. They offer an upscale grill menu with a wide variety of choices. Organic and fresh items and a fine bar with a great selection of beers, wine and liquor. We opted for the grass fed burgers and arugula salad. Both were excellent. Well prepared and delicious. Atmosphere was casual and slightly upscale. The service was above average - excellent, just making a nice place to enjoy a casual drink or meal. If you are in the area give them a try. read more

So impressed! We were staying locally and gave Bantam a try. It is in an extremely modest strip mall, but the interior is nice - not fancy, but nicely laid out. We were greeted by an impossibly young, but efficient young man. Service was also friendly and efficient. Excellent specialty cocktail followed by a truly impressive meal. We eat at very good restaurants, but start to finish, this was a memorable meal. The food here is phenomenal. Every dish I've had is better than the last, really high quality Italian inspired food. The cocktails are also delicious, the bartenders really know what they're doing. Someone suggested the Hendrick's cocktail (gin, fresh basil, cucumbers, and lime) and although I'm not a huge fan of gin, this combination was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it. All of the staff seems really nice, too, and very knowledgeable about the menus and drink pairings. What surprised me most about Bantam Grill is the atmosphere - it's very casual, the servers are in jeans and tshirts, it's very friendly and welcoming, but the food tastes like it should be at an upscale restaurant in NYC or LA, not a small town in rural NH. We are really lucky to have such a fantastic restaurant in our town. Overall Bantam Grill was a delicious experience, I'll definitely be back. read more

Yum! We were in Peterborough visiting family and weren't sure what to think of the eclectic menu at bantam grill. We are sure glad we gave it a try! Everything everyone in our party got was outstanding! While they didn't have a children's menu online (that we could find) they had one there and were very accommodating to a child in a restaurant that had mostly adults (at least the night we were there).
