My wife and I have shopped at this Petco for many years and have literally spent tens of thousands of dollars for our pets there. After COVID, the store did poorly for quite a while but in time they got staff that brought the store back to a clean, well stocked business again (see my previous reviews). Sadly, the store today is NOT a customer friendly or clean location...to start out the store almost never has carts in the store, as usual because I was buying some heavier items (box of cat litter) I didn't want to carry a 40 lb box through the store. Why can't this store collect their own carts? When I walked in the cashier and another worker were standing there talking (I was pushing the cart I had gone outside and got since the employees seemed to be too occupied.) When I went to get some cans of dog food, I saw as usual, that there were many dented cans on display. Does Petco have issues with their Whole Hearted source? Why are seemingly almost half of the cans badly dented and still on display? I grabbed 14 non-dented cans. Should I put the dented cans aside so the store can collect them? Or are those ok for sale? The store today was dirty - I could see debris underneath almost every shelf of the store as I walked up to pay for my items, as if the employees tasked with sweeping go up and down the aisles and don't seem to care about trying to actually clean their store. Finally, when I checked out, the lady checker was almost embarrassingly indifferent to me. "do you want a bag?" "Do you want a receipt?" was about all she said. As I mentioned, this has been our go-to pet supply store for many years. Today, after spending $90+ and feeling like my patronage isn't appreciated, I think it's time to begin driving a couple extra miles to PetSmart and seeing if that business can be a little more welcoming to its customers. I never write yelp reviews but my experience at this Petco was so poor that I had to give a warning. We were getting everything ready for a fish tank has a cart full of everything you would need ($200+ of materials) a worker approached us giving us unsolicited advice that contradicted what we read on the Petco website regarding fish and fish care (also not our first time owning fish) when we told her we had done our research prior and did not need assistance she was incredibly rude and made the experience so hostile that we just left didn't purchase a thing and will certainly never return read more

I just moved here & came to check out my local Petco for my critters. The lady that checked me out today at 11:19AM 7/12/2025; was so rude & hostile when I asked for crickets. She said "oh they were pre bagged this morning at 8am, you can go back there and get it." I didn't want those one as the crickets were already dead and I needed more than what they had "pre bagged" I let her know exactly that and she said "you can go get what's back there & I'll discount what crickets are dead" I will not be going back! So much for the membership I'm supposed to save with when you get shitty customer service. Not worth it. read more

We adopted a puppy from Three Little Pitties Rescue and the pick up was the Petco parking lot. We went in and got a few things we needed and gave them our donation receipt. So excited for our puppy and thanks Petco for letting this be a pick up spot. read more

If I could give this a 0/5 stars, I would. I tried returning an online order and had the shipping confirmation number and slip for them to scan for any easy return. After a few minutes, the store manager who was doing the return for me, said that the return was declined. She told me to call the number that she printed out so I went back to my car in the parking lot to figure out how to return this item. The person on the phone said it was declined because I didn't provide a government ID (I was never asked this originally). So I go back inside to explain to a worker working at a different checkout stand. He goes through the same process and it gets declined again. He calls the manager who tells me to call the number AGAIN and say that the return process didn't even get to the part to look at the government ID. I called again and the person on the phone told me to try a different store... like what?! The person on the phone said it was a system error at this particular store and they can't help me with that. I'm probably wasting more gas trying to get this item returned. An item that is within their 30 day policy and I haven't used or opened at all. So weird how they couldn't override this on their computers, seems like it should be an easy process. read more

Not surprised petco has low rating. I bought 2 Guinea pigs for my family and all the recommended items to give them the best possible life. We played with them daily and fed them the recommended food, and bought them a huge cage with plenty of toys. My Guinea pigs died a month later unexpectedly with no symptoms. I went in to talk to the manager and they tried saying it must of been something I did, I had all the proof that everything I owned was sold in that store almost 1000 dollars worth of merchandise, but they basically said tuff luck. I believe they knowingly selling sick animals to children. My family and I will never shop at petco again after this. I would say save yourself the heart break and go anywhere else. My wife scheduled an appointment to get our dog groomed today about a month ago. Most groomers are booked out a whole right now and we have normally had a pleasant experience with Petco. Our daughter had unexpected health issues that are going to require an extended stay at the hospital which started yesterday. My wife called yesterday to advise Petco that due to the unforeseen circumstances she was unsure if we would be able to bring our Dog in. The person on the phone added notes into the system about this but stated they would keep the appointment the way it was. Fast forward to today, my wife was able to bring our dog in. The groomer was very rude and states that they saw the notes and didn't think she would make it. My wife, holding our other daughter (6 months old) in the baby carrier holding it together while our older daughter remains in the hospital with me, asks what time the grooming side closes. The person replies 6pm. My wife lets them know that someone else will most likely pick our dog up for us around then can she leave the leash. The groomer insensitively replies that she can not leave the leash and our dog has to be picked up when the groomer leaves at 4:30pm. Seriously?!? My wife offers to pay more for the extra time. Nope! Can't do it. You know, you never really know what someone is going through and how far kindness can go... but when you have the notes in front of you!!!! Make an effort to be human and empathize with other peoples situations. My wife still left this person a tip and did not want to say anything. When I heard my wife explaining this to me in tears I felt it should be shared. This will be our last time walking into or out of a PetCo.... read more

I usually prefer to go to local pet stores over Petco, but I needed to pick up one thing. I found what I needed easily enough and browsed through the store a bit. I was appalled by the care of the reptiles that they had for adoption. In particular, one ball python looked just about starved to death. He had stuck shed all over his face and was so skinny that his bones were CLEARLY visible and his skin was hanging off of him. During previous visits, I've had an employee assure me that he was a "reptile expert" and was hoping to order a bigger variety of snakes with higher care and experience levels. If the staff here can't even bother to feed one baby python, I truly hope they don't follow through with ordering any more complicated species. I'm disgusted at the level of neglect that I saw. My entire family has shopped at this particular Petco weekly for close to 15 years. I am surprised by some of the negative reviews regarding grooming, customer service, and store cleanliness. I had worked as a professional secret shopper for years and have in fact assessed this store. I gave them an excellent review. I have also adopted animals here, purchased fish and dog/cat supplies, and taken a couple dogs to be groomed here recently. These reviews are so out in left field as to appear to be trolls. The store is clean and does not smell. The animals appear well cared for. The grooming service we received was great. We brought our extremely energetic white husky in with extensive shedding. I have no complaints about the grooming my dog received. I am complaining about how rude one of the groomers was to me when I came to pick her up. Usually, you pick up the invoice, pay and bring the paid invoice back. Apparently, they had overbooked and they had "too many dogs" and the rude girl demanded I take her with me even though I told her that I needed to buy a leash and pay the grooming bill before I take her. I am 63 and walk with a cane and I told the rude girl I was having back pain at that time. (My dog will run to meet other dogs and I didn't want her to get away or pull me down). I explained all this. Absolutely not important to this young woman. She was very rude and I wasn't sure she would keep my dog or let her go. It would have taken no more than 5 minutes. In the end, the cashier took care of the invoice and helped me put the new leash on my dog. I have never experienced such cold and rude behavior from a groomer there. Never going back. 10/1/22. EDIT / UPDATE OK. This was still bothering me today so I decided to go back to Petco to talk to the manager. The person I had the disagreement with was at the desk and I got her name. We exchanged a few words about what happened. I then went to the cashier and asked for the manager.i explained to her what had happened and that at the time I didn't know if the rude girl had groomed my dog and did not want to leave a tip. Since I now knew the rude girl didn't groom my dog I told the manager I wanted to tip the groomer and she walked with me to my car so I wouldn't have to come back in. Nice lady! I had an appointment today with my dog Autumn, mind you she is just over a year old and has been going here for grooming since she was just few months old. Apparently her rabies vaccination expired two days ago so they declined to take her. Yes I'm angry! why wasn't I notified when I took her in three weeks ago for grooming or emailed. The dog grooming is not only affordable but they treat my puppy very good first at the hazel Dell location then this time to orchards. He is very excited and didn't care for water so I commend the groomers. I also did the beginner dog training class and had a good experience. I almost went to PetSmart a lil more expensive but more dogs in the classes. I believe customer service is number one your customers make your business run, so if the staff aren't treating you right go somewhere else. Especially if they are being unprofessional!!!! Went in looking for some pet supplies and was knocked out by the horrific stench of the place. Holy cow! If your kid is begging for a pet and you don't want to get him one, bring him here! "Timmy, this is how your room will smell when you get your (insert pet here)." Perfect deterrent! It smelled as if the cages/tanks had not been cleaned since the Crimean War. There was an employee pushing a broom around, which was kinda funny, because no broom could clean up the problem that was hanging in the air like some nasty stenchfest. I couldn't make this up if I tried so here it is. My 4yr old decided he wanted a new pet so off to Petco we went. After looking for a long time we decided a few small fish would do the trick and he was excited. We finally asked for help and had to wait about 15 minutes before someone came over. No big deal but they didn't seem that busy though. We had grabbed a little 2.5 gallon tank and wanted three or four of the smallest fish they had. We are talking one tiny goldfish and some other guppy type fish. When we told the young man what he wanted he said the tank wasn't big enough. So, we said how about the 5 Gallon tank kit for four small fish? He pointed to some $149,99 10 gallon tank kit and said that was what we needed if we wanted to get 4 fish. He said that is per the Vet they use and that he would not sell us anything smaller. He was starting to get an attitude so things were beginning to go sideways with him more lecturing us rather than advising. Since my little guy was so excited about getting a fish I asked this employee how about if we just got a couple fish and bought the cheaper 5 Gallon kit since I wasn't going to spend $150 for my 4 year old to have a couple fish. Obviously this rude young man isn't real strong with math since he told us it would take 10 gallons to do 4 fish and now to my amazement he said that the 5 gallon tank was really just for Beta fish even though they clearly had Beta only smaller tanks and a large selection of these small freshwater tank kits right by the main fish tanks. When I tried to question his lack of logic he started to get mouthy again saying something about what the Vet told them and some other bs. I told him I was going to buy the 5 Gallon tank and my wife would buy a couple small fish but then he proceeded to tell me he wouldn't sell them to us. Yes, I was a bit blown away by some punk mouthing off to me and my family while all we were doing was trying to make my 4 year old son happy so we headed to the door to buy the fish somewhere else. I get Petco probably pounds it into their head to advise people correctly as they do have a guarantee on their fish, but as mentioned above if this employee would have stopped running his mouth long enough to listen and think about what we were going to do which would have been in line with what he recommended in the first place, which is about 2.5 gallons per fish in the ten gallon tank with four fish since obviously 2 fish in a 5 gallon tank is the same ratio. Since I have literally spent thousands of dollars at Petco Stores over the years and recognized the usually friendly lady up front I grabbed her on our way out and told her real quickly what happened and asked how many gallons they recommend per small fish. She said probably 2 or 3 gallons to be safe, which goes right back to a 5 gallon tank for a couple fish being ok. I let her know the employee in the back refused to sell us the fish and tank and were were leaving, which is what we did. She sort of tried to apologize but then went into this long conversation about caring for fish. This entire deal is definitely a joke and while we will still use other Petco Stores to groom our dog I doubt I will ever go back to this one. The real issue at the end of the day was a young man that was a disrespectful know-it-all that wouldn't quit running his mouth long enough to listen and think about what was being said. I also doubt the Petco organization allows employees on the floor to refuse to sell to people. Furthermore how in the heck did he even know we didn't have other tanks at home? He definitely just had an attitude and wanted to act like some big shot. I expect better from a company like Petco and I am still not sure why trying to buy a couple little fish for my 4 year old should have turned into a terrible experience for him when we left with no fish. read more

I really dislike this Petco. It smells horrible, feels dirty and has a lot of empty shelf space and dust covered inventory. The people are friendly and helpful, but it feels gross inside. We have been coming to this store since it opened... dog food, cat food, mice to feed the snakes, crickets for the other lizardy friends and 8 legged arachnids we keep as family members... plus the hamsters, pet rats and birds of various breeds and all that comes with them. We have yet to come here for something and find they dont have it. Thats always a plus. Service can be hit or miss sometimes, although the one woman thats been here forever (I have forgotten her name! Sorry!!) with shorter brunette hair is always friendly and has a smile for us at any time. They also used to have a guy here (many years ago) that was very knowledgeable with reptiles, snakes in particular, so that was a huge plus for me as that was near the beginning of our snake loving adventures. It is easier to purchase crickets since they moved the barrels to the front of the store near the registers. I dont suggest you bother with the prepacked ones... they tend to be near death most of the time, if half of those in the container arent already gone, that is. Dog, cat, rodent, and bird food is all plentiful in choice of brand, size of container to purchase, and flavor mixes. I have brought some of our pets in with us to shop before and they are friendly to my "babes", including the snakes and other creepy crawlies that might be riding around my shoulder, neck, or clinging to my shirt. :) read more

Petco. It's where the pets go. They have a super fantastic bulk treat section for dogs. Just grab a baggie, fill it up, and check out! All kinds of fun flavors (I hear are actually tasty in person, but that's from a friend, because I would never try dog treats...). I also like their freshwater fish selection. I have had great luck with buying fish from here. Prices are pretty comparable to other big box pet stores in the area. They also have a rewards card to sign up and earn points for discounts at a later date. read more

Love this Petco, always helpful very good customer service and helpful in helping me find the best nutrition for my lizards. All of which I rescued. So I literally know nothing about. They are always friendly to me, I have never had a bad experience at this particular Petco, I would rather go here than the one up on Mill Plain in which I have received horrible customer service at. I actually prefer this Petco to Petsmart, at which I only used to shop at until I found out they were over priced on many things including crickets. Went to this store on wed the the 16th to buy a harness for my new dog and when i got to the counter and swiped my card they said it was denied and asked me to swipe it again. They said it was denied again. I left the harness on the counter and left. I went home and checked my account online and it said that they charged me 19 almost 20 dollars but i received nothing. I called the store and talked to gorge he said wait 24 hrs and it will be back on your card. Friday I called back and Jacob gave me a phone number to call to dispute this and the lady treated me like I was lieing. She asked if I had a recite. No there wasn't a transaction the card was declined. They said they would investigate. I am doing a fraud claim now with my card holder. Be very careful they took my money and now dont want to give it back. read more

Their computer appointment system is poor at best, I had made, I thought, an appointment for earlier in the week. After several days of no confirmation I called and of course they don't answer the phone so I left a voice mail for a call back, never did get a return call or conformation. A day later I called the store again and talked to a fellow in the retail area of the store, he took my info and said he would post a note on their computer screen for the groomers to call me. They did call and advised me that I wasn't on their schedule, but they had an appointment available on the weekend, I took that appointment. My dog is a small female terrier. Been a customer of Petco dog groomers for several years. However, yesterday was the final straw! They had my dog for 5 hours! When I finally arrived without any phone call the the gal said they had called me. No they did not call as I had my phone with me at all times, and it was on and working. When I dropped off my dog they had the wrong area code for my phone number on my account. I told the gal it was wrong and she sat down to correct it on the computer. She never made the correction, as the same wrong area code was still on my account when I returned to pick up the dog. Then when I got the dog home I looked at the dog closely and they had not removed the debris from one of her eyes. The dog was also constantly scratching, the scratching was so bad that I finally decided to give the dog a bath myself, at home, after a good scrub and a through rinse the dog quit scratching. It was obvious the groomer had not done a good job rinsing the soap out of her coat. Also during the bath at home found a loose clump of hair in her private area that had not been removed. The haircut was marginal, the dogs face is typical of a Yorkie, the groomer had completely removed the feather hair on her ears, she now has pointed ears until the hair grows out again. The whole experience was a disaster. Computer appointment system is iffy, and the dog groomer was obviously in a hurry and didn't take the time to do a through job! Norm K. read more

This was the second time i took my puppy for bath and nail buffing. I had gotten the $23 bath with nails. But they charged me $30 for bath and another 10 for nail buffing. She was done in less than an hour vs the first time it took them 2 hours. First time they did a very good job and my puppy was fluffy looking and smelt nice but this time it was still stinky and nails were not done properly and was still wet some places. This 1 star rate is not for the store but the dog groomer I had encountered on two occasions. I was walking around the store with both dogs, (my, at that time, 12 weeks old peke & 6yr old peke) when this dog groomer, whom has been watching us from the moment we entered the store, leaves her station to ask if she can pet both of my dogs. After all that pet pet and blah blah she then had the nerve to tell me my 6y/o dog is "overweight", giving advice (which I did not ask for) to reduce his meal portion because according to her "he could really lose a couple of pounds"..and continued talking out of her a**. But that is old news.. So today I went back to this store to buy dog food. This time with just 1 puppy (my now 4month old peke). Once again the same dog groomer leaves her grooming station to pet my dog, and guess what?! This cow tells me my pup has thyroid!! (He does not.. He's just shedding baby fur) and in her exact words was "I'm absolutely positive its thyroid" Oh my bad.. I didn't know you were a dog groomer and veterinarian too.. She than tell me to change his diet because he looks to be lacking protein??? (Both of my dogs eat natural balance recommended by our vet) to try feeding him peanut butter mixed with cream cheese and scrambled eggs so it will help with the blah blah.. Still talking non-sense about his weight and size. Wow! this woman is VERY KNOWLEDGABLE!! If everything she said about my dogs is true then she is working in the wrong field. My point is this: she should stick to what she knows...GROOMING!! Don't tell me my dogs are fat and/or abnormal - especially when I never asked for her opinion. read more

I will never take my dog back to this location. The two women working there this afternoon were extremely unprofessional and I did not receive the service I paid for. I did not take my dog to a vet clinic, I took him to a groomers. It is NOT the place to lecture a client about a dog being intact or not. It is NONE of their business whether or not I choose to neuter my dog, so the comments made were unappreciated. When I picked him up he was still very wet. Had I seen him before paying, I would have asked for them to finish blow drying him before exchanging money for service. Or lack thereof.
