We just had our dog groomed at the Vacaville Petco and all seems to be well so far but while I was in there we watched another dog being groomed by a specific groomer and she was not treating the dog nicely at all! The dog was obviously a little bit older and had trouble standing and the groomer (Candie) just kept pulling on the dog's legs so she could cut the hair. The poor dog was being so nice but was obviously bothered by her yanking on it's legs! It was so sad! Candid didn't care at all! read more

Bring your dog to these groomers if you like the sound of screaming dogs, if you want your pet to be physically struck by the technician, and if you want your pets ears to be violently yanked! This is what I saw when I walked in before my dogs shampoo appointment. I'm in such shock that they are so openly abusive while a customer is watching and waiting right there!! Horrible customer service. I could forgive it if it was just occasional, but it seems to be pretty constant. The only good trips I have going here are when I'm in and out for cat food and I don't have to interact with any of the employees. You can spend ridiculous time waiting for service in the aquatics department, and then you are treated as if you have zero knowledge of your own and are an inconvenience to the employees. I've also had the doors shut on me twice now before closing time, once a few months ago 10-15 minutes before closing time and then again today about 5 minutes before closing time when I just need cat litter and am in in out as fast as their checkout line is long. From now on I will be getting my pet supplies either from the Vacaville PetSmart or off Amazon. It has been like this for the whole two years I have been shopping at this location, other locations are better but not great. read more

Wish I could give zero stars! Not the first time I've had horrid customer service. How are you going to stand at the door and not allow me to enter the store when it's not 7pm yet. This is the second time they have done this to me. The first time was 30 min before they closed an they said to me as I was walking in that they would like to close and go home. Today I admit I walked in 2 min before they closed to grab a bag of dog food and the man at the door wouldn't let me in. As a store manager and having a long customer service background this is NOT how you treat your customers. I will start spending my money at petsmart from not on. I have never had my dogs groomed at Petco Vacaville and after what I saw last week wouldn't recommend it. I was picking up rabbit supplies which is next to groomers and noticed a dog on a grooming table looking very uncomfortable wiggling & pulling trying to get out of the restraint . The grooming employee was standing right there not paying attention because she was too busy messing with her phone. This went on for about 4 to 5 minutes she didn't put her phone away and care for the dog until another grooming employee walked in. read more

Although there was some waiting and miscommunication for setting appointments, my dogs were so well groomed and cared for. My Elkhound has anxiety disorder and they're one of the only shops in town that will take him and not want to have him medicated or sedated. Thank you! read more

I go here because its close to me. They have a nice selection of items to buy. I use to buy my fish here for my tanks but they haven't looked good for years. I have bought 3 fish and 1 hamster from this murder-bin. My fish all died within a few days of bringing them home. OK, maybe I screwed something up...but no, went to Petsmart, bought the same type of fish, months later they are flourishing. Bought a hamster from these crooks, died within the week. These criminal pride themselves on selling sick animals on their deathbeds. They routinely keep sick and dead animals in the same cages and tanks as the healthy ones. Please, Petco, not just for me, but for the animals: TAKE BETTER CARE OF THESE LITTLE CREATURES. I've been there a number of times and not a single time was I given the opportunity to talk to someone who actually knows what they are taking about. The staff acts as if you are bothering them from whatever it is that they are doing. The prices there are great tho, and their fish selection is a little better... But their customer service is just not there. read more

My dog hates getting his nails clipped and it's always been a battle. The groomer at Petco didn't put a muzzle on him but a cone type collar, talked to him through it and he did not jerk his legs or cry at all. Very happy and a great price. read more

On 8/23/15, I bought dog food and the cashier did not place my order towards my Petco Rewards account. She said she can return it and re-buy it so it will go towards my Petco Rewards. I ask her how fast would it get credited to my bank, she said instantly. She misunderstood and now there are 2 debits on my account for $25.00 Now because of their error I have to wait 2-3 business days for a credit. One of the managers did his best and called Support which could not do anything. Now I am stuck here waiting for a $25 credit. I will never go to this Petco location again. Fairfield has never given me problems and their employees seemed better trained. I am also tomorrow morning reaching to Petco's CEO Jim Meyers about this location. read more

We pay an extra fee at Petco to have our dog arrive early and not be put in a kennel at any time. for two sessions we stayed with the groomer the entire time to ensure competence. We were thrilled with Annalee and only she is acceptable BUT when we brought him in for his grooming appointment ...made three months in advance, we were glibly told our groomer was not in but a "new' groomer would be handling our dog...NOT! We had made many plans which we had to cancel. We feel we should have been called beforehand. Petco has gotten a lot of bad press lately and we would never subject our dog to a stranger. read more

I have taken my dogs to petco for several years. They always did an adequate job grooming my toy poodle mix. I called last week and made an appointment for today. When I arrived I was told the poodle wasn't on the schedule, only our other dog. The soonest they would get the poodle in was more than 3 weeks away. There was barely an apology that they had messed up, only rudeness from the woman at the desk. I will not be taking my dogs there again. read more

Patrick is amazing! My husband, 1 year old daughter and I went in for dog food and as usual walked through the fish area. We've debated getting a betta fish tank for a while now and while there we were greeted by Patrick. My husband always has lots of questions about everything and Patrick was very knowledgeable and happy to share what he knew about everything there. Ultimately we ended up leaving with and tall and narrow standing tank and he explained the best ways to get everything setup before introducing fish...none of which I would've ever known. Had he not been there we would've likely never bought the tank or made the purchase blindly and jeopardized the fish. Next time we go back we will call ahead to see if Patrick was working. Overpriced goods and they never seem to have any sale going on. I only come here to bring my dog groomed but even that has stopped because his last grooming didn't go so well. His cut was uneven and they charged me extra because he was a little matted. Yes I can understand if he was really matted, but one or two mats aren't going to extend the grooming time by an hour. You just have to cut it and brush it out. Simple. But instead they charged me almost $10 extra for two mats. I don't bring my dog here any longer. Some of the groomers that work there aren't really groomers. There's only two or three that really groom dogs. read more

Came in for some pet food, walked out angry as the cashiers messed up and over charged me for the food by accident. It took about thirty minutes for them to realize what was going on about them over charging me and it took another thirty minutes for them to actually go and give me my money back because the cashier didn't know how to work the register. Worst experience ever, called the manager but she seemed to care more why her employees were not trained correctly. read more

This a review of the reptile dept. Compared to other reptile stores this one is extremely clean. It has a good selection of reptiles for a major chain store; a much better selection than all of the Petcos & Petsmarts in Sacramento & Yolo county that I've visited. Unfortunately most of the staff and not very knowledgeable concerning the animals that they sell but they are attentive and concerned and do have caresheets for the majority of what they sell. read more

The negative things I have to say involve the habitation of the living animals. I've seen the birds not socialized and isolated and reptiles dehydrated and in the wrong environment and reptiles caught in bad molts from improper humidity. This really should be addressed but then again it's a commercial chain. However I was HIGHLY impressed by a young lady who was in charge of the tarantulas. The spiderlings and arachnids were always properly maintained although they've stopped carrying spiderlings. I had to ask who took care of them and actually had to tell her that I appreciated her care of the arachnids and honestly most of the employees seem to care about the living animals they sell but it's ridiculously apparent that at most they have a basic, possibly googled, education about animal Care. One dry molt with a spider or don't take out the crickets and it'll lose limbs or die. Reptiles need specific diets and subtrates and temps and humidities and light and it's not just some base setup where one size fits all. So that's my annoyances. However the store is clean with nice employees and lots of types of items for basically every type of animal at 'not bad' prices. If you get the rewards card it's worth it. You'll actually make money (I've made $15 in three months) but you'll need to check ur email and register your card online and then upload your reward money to your card that they scan. The stock is everything from baby nipples and dog costumes to raw diet foods and Timothy hay. It's the Walmart of pet stores. You can say this stuff about most of this chain but I only shop here at this one. Hopefully they can start getting some socialization training for birds for their employees. Especially for the birds that live 18+ years. The first seven months will decide the rest of it's life. Should be taken seriously. UPDATE: corporate took me seriously and have seemed to correct some of the issues I had brought to light. Thank you. Went to look at the animals for adoption and this little old lady as I stepped forward into the area of the adoption closed it on me and said you have to come back after 12:00 pm and it was 11: 15 am. I had just drove 20 minutes to get there and my daughter was very disappointed and so was I and the way the lady handled it was very rude. Why couldn't she clean with people still looking at the animals? Store was clean and stocked so that is why the 2 stars. read more

I was really disappointed to see how the employees are treated. Today I witnessed a member of management publicly humiliate one of their employees as she yelled across the store and continually mocked her as the interaction progressed. It was really uncomfortable for all the shoppers who witnessed it, and in the future I will probably just go to Petsmart for my dog food, even though I always have really pleasant experiences with the sweet blonde gal who works there. read more

So i've been coming here since about September or October to get my 3 dogs groomed because it was getting cold and my puppies are medium sized dogs that weren't yet potty trained so i took them here in order to keep them cleaned, but not have to make them cold and i started taking my older dog just because he was a little jealous of the puppies getting to go somewhere and he always gave us a hard time taking a bath because he didnt like the water. Every time i have brought them in, they did really good with them and everyone seems to enjoy having them around. Ashley has done all my dogs except for the puppies once, someone else did the puppies once because i needed them done on a day that she wasnt going to be there so someone(i think her name was Jay) did them because the puppies are good with going with someone esles, but i wanted to keep my other dog with Ashley because he has gotten use to her. Although, the person that did the puppies still did a great job, Ashley is awesome and although i am sure a lot of the girls there are great, i'd recommend Ashley in a heart beat. read more

I have been to this Petco multiple times for dog food, cat food, dog training, and to get my dog's nails clipped and it's always a good experience! The staff is friendly and helpful. Diane was our dog trainer and she was amazing- she was so patient with our one year old rescue pup. I never thought we would be able to get her to "stay" or "leave it" but Diane truly has a way with dogs and I'm proud to say that my dog is now trained on all of the basic commands. read more

Do not take your dog to be groomed here. They injured my dog...don't know how yet, but three days later he is still lethargic, not interested in food or water, and doesn't want to do anything but lie in one spot. My dog has never acted this way before. I took him to the vet and will likely need to take him back for more extensive and invasive testing. Disgraceful!! read more

I inadvertently gave Petco 1 star. They should receive ZERO stars. I witnessed a female groomer mistreating a dog she was grooming. It was awful. I immediately reported it and the following day met with the store manager. I was told by other employees there had been complaints about the groomer in the past. I then wrote a letter to the President of Petco with no response. Clearly, the President was not interested. I came to social media to warn people what I saw. First time for buying fish yet it has been over a month and all have survived . Neon's, Angel, and associated Tetra's . Their inventory is okay. Staff are not very knowledgable about animals, but I think that goes across the board and went out the window when real pet stores went away. You can't ask them about the product and expect them to know much about what it is. I would NOT want them to groom or train my dog, that's for sure!!! read more
