Grooming is inconsistent. I schedule grooming for my little dog and it always gets canceled. I've been canceled 3 times. They send you confirmation text. Then actually send you a text if you cancel you need to notify the with 24 hours. It's so frustrating to be canceled last minute 1 hour before your dog grooming appointment. Leaving this review because the past two times I've booked appointments for my dogs, Petco groomers have rescheduled the appointment twice. First time the groomer was "sick" and I got rescheduled for like a week later and then the groomer "had to have emergency surgery" meaning I had to get rescheduled again. More recently I had an appointment for grooming and was called the day of and told that the "air conditioning was broken and it was too hot to do appointments". I was rescheduled for today and was called again because this time "the groomer has norovirus". I will not be rescheduling again. The individuals running this grooming department are either the unluckiest and unhealthiest individuals alive, or flat lying and I'd bet on the latter at this point. Don't waste your time trying to schedule here. I also book with any groomer and not a specific individual. 2 stars because when they have been groomed the dogs looked decent. read more

Wanted to get a long haired guinea pig called and was lied to on the phone that they had 1 male and 2 females then spent and hour driving form the Bay Area because this was one of the store that had them available then we spent 35 minutes looking for an employee to help and then got told that someone would be there to help us shortly and then spent another 25 minutes waiting for somebody and nobody showed up. So we walk out because apparently our time and business is not valuable to this facility. read more

This store is overall a mess and dirty. The fish tanks are infested with snails so they have to remove everything. We saw a lot of parasitic fish. Also the woman with all the tattoos that are all over her neck is very rude. She was yelling at her co worker to stop selling merchandise. She also was very rude when asking about adopting one of their available cats. Since the whole store was out of wack & staff was rude we did not purchase anything. This location needs new employees & someone to organize this store. I'm sure this affects sales. read more

Always a well kept store, with clean floors and tidy shelves. They have a great variety of pet foods, as well as pet care items. They have fish in tanks in the back to the right as you walk in. They also have a selection of rodents, including guinea pigs. I got my Ruth here. They even have a variety of reptiles. The only reason I'm taking a star off is because I feel like the reptiles should be given a bit closer care. One of their $400 snakes had damage to its scales, and many of the tanks that should be sprayed down are too dry. It makes it difficult for a shedding snake to help get that skin off. Other than that, I would say that this is definitely one of the go to pet stores. The staff is always around and helpful with questions. The pricing is pretty reasonable as well. read more

Overall, in terms of competition with other big box pet stores, which I usually don't support when it comes to aquarium pets, this location is by far the best. You can obviously tell that they have a dedicated staff to the aquatic section that actually care about what they're doing and go out of their way to keep everything clean, neat, organized, and for the most part the stock is healthy and there's a great variety. The store gets a high rating when it's compared to other big box companies that are similar to it, but my only grievance and the reason why it didn't get five stars is because they have an in-store policy where they try to tell you that they can't sell any pets or aquatics one hour prior to closing. As somebody who used to work in these kinds of stores, I understand that closing is sometimes hectic when still having to tend to customers and anyone would love to be able to get their closing routines done by closing, but that's not how business works. In a perfect world as a prior employee that would've been awesome to be able to clock out once the doors close but once the store closes, that is when the closing routine and taking care of all the animals for the night is supposed to begin. During operating hours, sales should never stop. So although it can be extremely annoying when customers show up late or close to closing, sometimes that's all people can do depending on their work shift and they're trying to make it to the store before it closes. An average person might think, just come the next day when they're open, but when it comes to first come first serve on certain fish that are already hard to find, you want to be able to get what you can find as soon as possible before someone else comes before you. A pretty long grievance, yes, but I like to be thorough lol read more

There almost always seem to be a deal of some sort (buy one get one 1/2 off) on treats. And the availability of some items have gotten better lately. Really like coming to this store for my fish babies and supplies. The fish are healthy and their water is clean. They carry hardscape materials and fresh fish food. Today Ley rang up my purchase and was delightful! Very friendly and personable. Chase who captured my fish was a bit rude and standoffish. Despite standing about 4 ft from me when I approached he never greeted me or indicated he would help me soon. While he helped her, and although I was standing 1 foot away from the glass, he wedged himself between me and the aquarium glass then stood there without excusing himself to obtain the code for her fish. I would have gladly stepped aside if he had told me he needed to get there. After helping her, engaging her in pleasantries, and bidding her farewell he asked me, "are you getting fish? " Well I had been standing in front of the fish I wanted while he took his time with her. After getting my fish he handed me the code on a sticky note grasping the very edge to assure he wouldn't touch me. Wow. My color won't rub off Chase. Ley made up for his tackiness. Thanks Ley. I use to always go to this Petco location when my former dogs were still puppies (they've been in doggie heaven now for almost 10 years now). So it was weird stepping foot in here again with my newly adopted dog. This location is well stocked and has a good variety of dog items. We wanted to switch things up for our dog, so we looked through the various pet food brands to buy a small bag for her to try. We were also able to find and purchase all the other items we needed for her. The staff here are friendly and helpful. My dog had a peeing accident in the store, which we immediately informed them and they cleaned up right away. Our cashier was friendly and adored our dog. She even allowed us to pick out two treats for her. After an almost 10 year hiatus, its nice to return to and purchase things from this Petco location again. read more

Went here on the way to Tahoe needing calming chews for my pup. Great store for Medium to Large dogs. Had solid stock for dog jackets that I didn't see at the petcos in the bay. Got lucky with a sale on one puffer jacket for my pup's snow protection at $20. Where the Petco in Alameda had them for $63-67 The two ladies on staff this morning were friendly and super knowledgeable on big dogs. I have moved to Vacaville from Vallejo and need to get supplies for my bearded dragons and for my new pet, a Betta. I went in today to pick up an online order for my Betta. I was standing in line, and there was only one cashier, ok no problem. I saw the cashier go to the online pick-up order section. I went over to ask if, while he was in there, he could just grab my order. He told me no, I have to help those in line for me to find someone else to help me. First of all, my order was right in the front. I only knew that because I had to get another associate to help me, who, by the way, was the same person the day before who helped me pick out my Betta and gave me excellent advice on how to set up my tank. I just thought that he gave me poor customer service. He could have asked my name, looked for and retrieved my items, it was only two and right in the front. I understand that he was the only cashier and the line was a little long, but hell, it took all of 5 seconds to look, retrieve, and send me on my way. Petco, you have to do better. I spend money in your store. I just feel that, no disrespect to the individuals in line, but a few more minutes would not have killed anyone. He would have to step out of line to help me anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone? I think I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I bring all my dogs here for grooming. I made the mistake of trying another Petco outside of this one and it made me truly appreciate the groomers here at Nut Tree. Pamela has been grooming my geriatric dog for almost 2 years now. She's always so good with him, the most recent time I brought him alone and he was a little too stressed out in which case she stopped the service and gave me a call. She was concerned because he was looking a little choppy. I appreciate her concern and stopping where she did. If I can do zero stars I would. I called The store and spoke to Robert about putting a life jacket for my dog on hold because they only had one and the sacramento stores were sold out. I show up and he didn't put it on hold, so he went on the floor and grabbed a vest for me and I paid cash for it. I went to my car and saw he gave me the wrong vest it was a trail vest not a life jacket. I went back in to return it and get the right vest. When I returned it, he returned it as a non receipted item and rang the vest up on the same purchase. When I got home it didn't fit my dog, so I kept the receipt and came back after my vacation. When I returned it, He only gave me 21 dollars cash and 32 dollars on a petco card. I paid cash for the whole thing but since he returned it as a non receipt the balance went to a petco card. It says in their return policy 100 percent payment back but he will not follow their policy. I had to drive back to vacaville 2 times from sacramento and they wasted my gas for his shady business tactic. It's a shady business tactic to make people spend their money back at the store. THIS PETCO KILLS KITTENS!!!!!!!! Walked into Petco the other night and watched one of their cashier and 2 older women feeding ICE COLD newborn kittens ICE COLD formula. These kittens were lethargic, barely moving with their umbilical cords still attached! I've been a foster for the Claybank shelter for years and I tried to explain you should never feed a cold, dehydrated kitten. They NEED to have their core body temperature up, and they absolutely need to be HYDRATED FIRST! Our groomer Kylee was amazing she was relational with our Charlie which is comforting to us as pet owners, up front they were so accommodating to our requests and we feel they went above and beyond our expectations with pet grooming due to our recent experiences with other places in town! The reason Petco Grooming gets only one star is because they don't keep their promises. I was confirmed a compensation for having to reschedule a grooming appointment for my Fur Baby because my original appointment was removed due to a groomer leaving. Upon requesting my compensation be honored when picking up my dog today I was informed that oh no we can't do that. Then I was told that I'm not allowed to bring my dog back for ferther appointments. Petco is not trustworthy and they never answer the phone or return messages. They don't really deserve one star. read more

I was at a store nearby and since it was convenient I decided to walk over with my dogs and ask if they can check the remaining balance I had on a petco gift card. When I asked the cashier if she could help me check the balance, she said no. I was a little taken back and shocked that she couldn't or should I say wouldn't help me. There was no line or anything. I clarified and asked if it was because the card is old? She said she has no way of checking. I said that doesn't make sense because if I buy something she would be able to tell me how much is on the card. I asked if she could scan the card and she looked at me like I was crazy or something. She attempted to scan the card and said, "see? I can't. The system doesn't let me". she asked if there was a number I could call. Yes, I suppose I could have done that but it also says on the back of the card that u can check the balance at any petco store or call the number. The cashier wasn't friendly either. It appears as though the Vacaville Petco has numerous bad reviews and I'd have to say that I agree with each and every one of them. The managers at the Vacaville Petco location, in my personal experience, come off as rude and condescending. Managers become great communicators by being good listeners. They allow time for others to speak, and should have a clear understanding of the organization's vision. My experience with management at the Vacaville location has been completely opposite. Instead my experience was with a manager who appears to be unable to deescalate a situation but instead abuses their power by taunting their customers. Shame! I am not a believer of using a managers/employees name in a public review as I find that to be unfair and my intent is not to embarrass or make someone feel badly in a public setting.
