NO STARS! My dog went to the groomers, she came back and could not open her left eye. We took her to the vet and the doctor said there was recent trauma done to her eye. The groomers tried to minimize her situation by saying it was just hair in her eye. In actuality there was an ulcer. I would recommend never taking your animals there! read more

I went in today to get my dogs nails trimmed, as she was a bit overdo for a nail clipping. All was well, until the lady began working on her nails. My dog had obvious stress and discomfort, and was met with no comforting words or breaks between so she can be less overwhelmed. Once her back nails began being trimmed, my dog started screaming, squirming around, and biting at the leash that was keeping her in place, and I was frozen in horror. My dog is fairly shy and quiet so I knew she was in pain. I'm going to start getting her nails trimmed at a trusted vet because I feel secondhand trauma after my dog's experience here. read more

I recently took my dog to get groomed at the Vacaville location. My dog broke out all over in hives. She had a severe allergic reaction! I have been taking my dog to the Fairfield location for a year and have never had my dog break out. Also when I picked my dog up she was poorly washed and soaked. We brought our new puppy in for training with Tammy today and it was amazing! She was incredibly helpful last time we were in picking out training treats and ear wash, what a great surprise when we showed up for class and she was the instructor! By far the best puppy training class I have experienced. She also recommended we get set up for the reward program that would save us a ton of money on grooming and vet services. Recently I purchased 3 varieties of aquatic plants and varying fish (this purchase alone was $79.00) then noticed my tank had an infestation of midge flies from the plants I purchased. When asked if they would give me store credit for the $11.00 I spent on Amazon for mosquito dunks, I was told no. I asked them if they were willing to loose a customer over $11.00 and they basically said yes as it is the store policy to return the plants for a refund. I walked around the store for at least 10 minutes trying to find someone help me find a product but there were no employees on the floor working. So I finally found the products I needed on my own. Now I go to check out and it's about a line of 7 people. Both cashiers definitely seem like they do not want to be there. I go to check out and the gentleman hands me back the wrong amount. No biggie but as I tell him he thinks I'm wrong at first but the register is telling him how much he owes me and I still have the amount of the counter. Took my dog here for training. Classes were approximately 40/45 minutes long. I was told an hour. Tammy was good but unfortunately I could of save quite a bit by watching you tube. They were very nice over the phone but failed to mention I need proof of a rabies shot upon arrival for my appointment. I am so upset with petco grooming. I made an online appointment, then I got a call a day before my appointment to confirm, I confirmed. I sent my sister, she took time off of work and since we live out of town she made it less than 10 minutes late. The lady said she couldn't help my dog anymore. I called her to see what the problem was and she exaggerated how late my sister was. I have the proof in the calls and appointment time. Also, she said appointment would take 4 hours and they close at 7pm. So I don't get why they let me schedule an appointment at 5:15pm online then even called me to confirm and didn't mention anything about not having enough time. This is very frustrating because my sister had to take time off work, drive out of town, and was still not able to be helped. read more

They have recently been doing a makeover of the store and it looks like it will be awesome when complete! In a day and age where we can order online from plenty of places, a local place we can go pick up items for our pets is important. Not having an employee tell us "Oh, you can order it online!" instead of "it is on aisle 6, let me take you there." is important to us. Sigh, Petco shouldn't be where the pets go. After being ignored, I tried buying fish here but the guy wouldn't sell them to me. They have some policy where they're not allowed to sell them if they don't see fit. My situation was that I hadn't already made room before buying the fish (1 fish per gallon of water). Even though I guaranteed that they would be moved right when I got home, the employee insisted that I would take over an hour to get them situated and my fish WOULD DIE. This makes no sense to me how they try and sound concerned when, seconds before helping me, he was scooping dead fishes out of cramped tanks. So I went to Walmart instead, bought fish, went home, and got them acclimating in 10 minutes. My fish are thriving now, in case you were wondering. Another time I came here, I saw hamster biting another hamster to death. I notified an employee and they scooped it out like no big deal. Whutttt issss thisss placeeee. read more

Horrible customer service. My kids and I went there to buy a fish to put with our existing fish, since our last 9 year old fish died of swim bladder disease. First we waited for someone to help us, the lady working the aquatics area with short blond hair was tending to some goldfish. We were standing there staring at her for about 5mins, she looked up saw us and continued doing what she was doing...didn't ask if we needed help. Finally I asked her for some help after I realized she didn't care. We named off the fish that we wanted and she asked what other fish we had and how big the tank was, and said the fish we wanted wouldn't work...made us feel like idiots who basically shouldn't own a fish..instead of naming some other fish that might work with our existing fish, I asked her and she said the name of a $20 fish. I knew some others would have worked after some research but there was no way she was going to sell us one. I gave up and decided to take my business to Petsmart, who were helpful and had great customer service skills! After having my dogs eye cut while having a Bath and brush last week I was less than happy when I woke up on Tuesday morning to see that my dogs eye was red, swollen and had been discharged coming out of it. I immediately called Petco to tell them what happened and spoke to the manager Bill. I was expecting to have some problems with them because I figured they would just tell me they were not liable. I was pleasantly surprised when Bill offered to cover all the medical bills for my dog to go and be checked out by their veterinarian. He then had me talk to the grooming department manager Analee who also apologized for the experience. She offered to give me a full refund and cover the next time I come in to have my dog groomed. Although it does not make up for the scar that will be permanent on my dogs face it does help that they were so apologetic and helpful after the fact. read more

I was not impressed with this Petco today. We have taken our dog there several times before (He is a chihuahua mix). The first time we took him he was allergic to the shampoo and fragrance. They paid for the vet visit to find out what went wrong. This time they did not tell us not to have the flea and tick shampoo unless he had lots of fleas so he broke out again. When I called to speak with the lady, she immediately said "We are not liable" I stated, I am not calling to say your "liable" I am calling to find out what did you use? Did you use fragrance? Did you use another shampoo? The last few times this didn't happen. Long story short, we huffed and puffed, had to talk with the grooming manager, then had to speak with the store manager. This store has been hit or miss in my experience. The best experience was our cat adoption; the worse was this past weekend. My husband & I were there to refill our cat litter. As we walked towards the registers, a rambunctious large German shepherd puppy was barely in control by its owner. The puppy jumped on me and I was scratched. The owner ignored me as she continued through the aisles. I was concerned about my wound as the dog scratch broke the skin. I am always wary around dogs as they can be unpredictable but I am usually able to avoid them. I called the store manager a few days later to report the incident and ask what can be done for public safety while shopping. She kept telling me that dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed, they can't ban dogs from the store, etc. I didn't ask for dogs to be banned. My concern is not being attacked while shopping. Again, she referred back to the store policy of allowing dogs, etc. Clearly customer safety is secondary to store policy. She suggested that I order my supplies in the future. It would be inconvenient & impractical to order loads of cat litter, so this suggestion was not helpful. I am a 63 y.o. disabled vet who is currently waiting for a surgery date for my injured back. I am not able to dodge an unruly animal as quickly as I have in the past. The store manager has made it clear to me that dogs supercede concern for other customers. Because of this policy & lack of concern, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Best of all, I've never encountered anyone here with the "I'm a cashier at a pet store, so I have better knowledge than your veterinarian" syndrome like I have encountered at PetSmart. If I've been directed to buy a product by my vet, you can direct me to where it is in the store, and that's where it ends. Went to Petco for fish for my son. We have never had fish before and the lady was very informative. She told us to try with the cheap goldfish first before we got the more expensive ones. I guess you have to get the fish tank just right with bacteria and stuff. And good thing we did because one died that night. Store isn't very nice. Old and smelly. Fish area isn't very nice either. We usually go to Petsmart, but this was the closest. Will go back for fish though. read more

Tammy the Trainer for the Vacaville store is very patient observant and kind. She really took the care and consideration for both of my dogs while helping my husband and I train them in our sessions. The cost for a 6-week session is about one-third of the price of any dog trainers in the area and not only does she help you train the dog but it helps you as a human be trained and what their needs are for your own individual pet. I brought my dog here once back in March for grooming and loved how helpful Katy was so I scheduled my dog's next grooming with her for yesterday. We were running late coming from Fairfield so I called the groomers and I got no answer. I didn't want them to think we were a no-show so I called the regular store line, let the lady know we were on our way, and she said that's fine and she'd let the groomers know. I arrived at my appointment about 7 minutes late and the girl at the groomer desk told me that they can't take any late dogs so they have to reschedule me. She said that the girl I spoke to on the phone doesn't work in grooming and didn't check with the groomers to make sure it was okay. What got me even more is that Katy, the one who was to groom my dog, was in the back grooming another dog. I'm not sure if that was an appointment just ending or if she started another dog but it doesn't make sense either way. If she started another dog then what? I came 7 minutes late so you took another dog or you stagger your appointments 5 minutes apart from each other causing you to run behind schedule??? I rescheduled my appointment for next Wednesday simply because I need my dog groomed, but this will be the last time we come to the Vacaville location. I left and called the Fairfield location to see if they had any appointments and I told the groomer who answered there what happened in Vacaville and she said she's been hearing this a lot about Vacaville!! Apparently Vacaville is bound to cancel your appointment. The groomer in Fairfield also told me that they give their appointments a 15 minute window to arrive after their appointment time which every location should! Vacaville needs to take note of that, especially if someone called beforehand, regardless if it wasn't a groomer spoken to on the phone, every appointment should be given a 15 minute arrival window. I've taken my dog to the Fairfield location before and only took him to Vacaville because Fairfield had no appointments in March or May that worked for me. Now, I'll be taking the time to schedule in advance for the Fairfield location and won't be returning to Vacaville. read more

Worst experience I have ever had at a pet store. My mother and I are regulars at this Petco location and have spent THOUSANDS of dollars here. Today, we came in just to pick up food for our snake and Tammy was absolutely TERRIBLE! The last visit we had here, she was already so rude to us and she wasn't ever our cashier. She talked rudely about the food we fed our dogs ( which is a top food brand so I don't know what she was talking about???) and was just disrespectful to my mother. She then proceeded to walk over to where we were checking out and just stand there and continue to say rude things, which was so uncalled for. Flash forward to today. Tammy was the only cashier available today and we just had to get back to our house. We go to the cash register and she begins to ring us up. Everything is going fine and she calls a fellow employee named Andre, who was very kind! My mother mentioned to Andre, who was now checking out our items rather than Tammy, that we left a survey of our last experience and all of a sudden, Tammy turns around and said "Yep well I expected that" with the absolute most awful tone of voice you can think of! My mom is shocked and Tammy continues on. She then proceeds to walk away to what I assume is the break room and my mother says that she was rude, which she was! She had to have given us the worst service that I have had at any establishment to this date. Tammy is now where the conures are and she turns and SHOUTS "no you're rude" all the way at my mother. We were in absolute shock. Tammy proceeds to walk back to where we were (can you see the similarity to our past experience with her?) and my mom asks why she said that. Tammy blames us for being the rude ones when she was completely awful to us our last 2 experiences. My mother says "we are the customer, why are you being rude to us?" As you may know of the phrase "the customer is always right" Tammy apparently did not. She continuously says "I don't care" and "you're being so rude".
