Date of visit: April 26th, 6:51 p.m. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to share what happened at this Petco location. I came in to pick up a few things for my new puppy, and while I was browsing, one of the male employees (possibly named Brian, per the receipt, though I'm not sure if that refers to the concierge or not) was lingering around in a way that felt invasive. Since he was nearby, I asked for help finding out where the puppy playpens were and told him about the size I needed. He proceeded to select a box himself and insisted he'd take it to the front for me. When I got home and opened it, I realized the box was clearly used and in poor condition. There were cobwebs inside, and what looked like either dirt or dog feces on the bars. It was visibly unhygienic. It felt intentional. Especially considering he picked the box himself and brought it up front, which suggests he knew what condition it was in. If this was a returned item, it should've never been resold, especially without inspection or cleaning. Thankfully, when I came back to exchange it on April 30th around 11:15 a.m., the two women working were respectful and professional. One of them even opened the new box for me so I could inspect it before taking it home. Something I deeply appreciated after the first experience. To make things even more clear, the box I exchanged it for had a secure plastic wrap keeping it closed--like a new product should. The original one I was given opened right away and had none of that. It's clear no effort was made to even pretend it was a clean, unused item. Petco really needs to ensure better quality control and oversight of employees. Selling used, unsanitary items for pets is unacceptable, and that type of passive hostility from staff creates a terrible environment. I'm grateful for the women who helped me, but I hope management addresses the inconsistency in service and product quality read more

This is where we adopted Leah our beautiful Boston Terrier! She came from the Miami-Dade Adoption Center in Doral. The staff here was very helpful and helped us pick out a collar, leash, and custom tag. The Miami-Dade Adoption Center Staff is there in the back of the store where there is an adoption center and are there everyday 10AM till 6PM. My dog had an appointment on a saturday afternoon with the vetco clinic that comes to petco. I started receiving text messages from the clinic at 8:55 am for a 12:45 pm appointment. message was as follows: VETCO CLINICS: RESPONSE NEEDED - Your pet(s) appointment is today at 12:45 PM! TEXT 3 when you ARRIVE at your appointment location. If you xan't make it, TEXT 4 NOW. at 9:37 AM I receieved a voicemail reminding me of appointment with instructions and telling me they had cancellations if I wanted to come in early go ahead and do so. at 11:02 AM I received a text message reminding me of 12:45 PM appointment at 12:29 PM I received the same exact text messsage I had receieved at 8:55 AM I texted when I arrived and nothing happened so I walked in. The kid at vetco checkin desk didn't even notice I was standing in front of him until I said anything. He seemed to be in a rush and just kept trying to sell me more shots and add to my invoice. All I was there for was a rabies shot. He explained rabies tag was not included so I asked for it as well (I come here every year so already know the routine). My dog got his shot, vet and vet assistant were nice, no issues. They handed me a piece of paper with a number and a qr code for the cashier to scan. I checked out and asked the cashier if she could give me a detailed receipt. She said she couldn't - but I paid petco so receipt is from petco for vetco purchase. I walked back over to the vetco people and asked for an itemized receipt. They told me one would be emailed to me. I checked email and hadn't received it yet. I asked them to let me see an itemized copy and i took a picture of the ipad receipt. Once in the car my husband drives off and I start looking at the picture I had taken of itemized receipt. They charged me for a tag for an unaltered dog even though information and the receipt itself states: Neutered Male Dog. That's an upcharge of $30. I called Petco and spoke to Kevin the manager who informs me that there is nothing he can do and that the vetco people have left. (Of course they left thats why they rushed through my dogs check in and check out they were in a hurry to leave. maybe if they had taken their time this wouldn't have happened). I paid petco yet petco says there is nothing they can do for me. Hmmmmmm............. Have called a vetco number in hopes of getting a resolution. I booked my puppys first grooming appointment at Petco in South Miami. I made sure that he had his 2nd vaccine as stated on the website. I arrived and my puppy was quickly denied his first appointment because -1 groomer first stated that he NEEDED to be at least 12 weeks. ( he was 11 weeks at time of appointment) She INSISTED that Petco's website states this information. I asked her to show me where it states this, since I had ALREADY carefully read through it to make sure my puppy was able to get groomed. She could not find the information. She then asked the other groomer who then stated that he needed to be at least 13 weeks!! ( they both gave me different weeks ) Then, they stated that the manager "Neurka " ( I believe that is her name ) ..demands that this is the rule. I CLEARLY told both groomers and the manager on staff that I had documents showing 2 sets of vaccines as stated on the website! * I asked them to give just him a bath and they said NO* (no love or care for animals) I asked to speak to a manager on duty and I walked with the groomer to see the manager. To my surprise, the manager then said that my puppy has to be 16 weeks. I laughed at this moment because no one knew the correct information. That moment, I quickly left as I knew that this place was NOT the place for my puppy to be. I immediately called PETSMART and they welcomed my puppy with love and a completely different attitude. He received his well needed bath and trim. PETCO groomers didn't even acknowledge my puppy. PETSMART employee welcomed my puppy with COMPLETE LOVE the moment we walked in. I reached out to PETCO on Twitter and they clearly stated " We take puppies under 16 weeks, however, per our vaccination requirement, puppies under 16 weeks will need at least 2 sets of puppy starter vaccinations that include distemper, hepatits, and parvovirus prior to coming in." Again....I CLEARLY told both groomers and the manager on staff that I had documents showing 2 sets of vaccines! Due to this ...I cancelled my private training sessions with PETCO as I lost complete trust in them. They lost a loyal customer. read more

I usually don't come to Petco for dog food but I was in the area and reminded that we had ran out of food so I made a pit stop. My dog likes good food but I usually end up finding great deals online or Bogos at the grocery store which make more sense for me. I ended up buying a few treats as well and from what it seems, they do taste great. I'm not too crazy about the layout here. I find it a bit disorganized and quite overpriced for what it is. If your pet requires specific items only found here then maybe it would be worth your time but I just found it not suitable for me. They do have coupons with a rewards program they offer so signing up for that might make it a bit more worthwhile for the avid pet owner. It's right on US1 in SoMi so it's accesible to many. read more

I love this store for my little four legged family members! They have so many toys and stuff that it is hard to contain yourself. They have everything you need and then some. They have a vet, training classes groomer, and more. Friendly staff and plenty of parking in the shopping center. The prices are a little higher than other places, but it is super convenient to just go to one place. read more

I've got to see the kitties right MEOW. (Punny, right?) A Petco is not a Petco, alike. Yes, the store is a nationwide chain, but they do vary in size and selection. This Petco, especially, is great for those looking to adopt some animals as they have kitties in-store and even bring in more puppies and kitties on the weekend. The location is large enough and as clean as a pet store can be. (Then again, apparently dog's mouths are cleaner than our own.) Anyway, headed over here with a friend to buy dog food for her doggie. The people working there are your typical Petco employees - invested and helpful, but don't be expecting service like at the Doggie Ritz. They do, however, offer dog training classes. I love going her to see the fluffy puppies and kitties! Maybe all these warm fuzzies are making me biased, but they are just soooo cute! read more

This place has a great selection of anything you need for your pet! So much inventory... Great store, but this review will be primarily about the training.... We started coming here after adopting our dog because I had read about the dog training here on Yelp. We took him to the basic puppy training with Felisha. Felisha knows dogs. Plain and simple. She doesn't mess around. With that says she loves dogs and we trusted her with her advice and her training techniques. A year or so later and our pup still remembers the basic sit, stay, and roll over commands. We should have continued going for more progress... But we were busy getting married, moving, etc. Long story short... If you need training for a new puppy go to Petco and Felisha will teach you how to train them. She will tell you how it is. She does not "baby" your dog, so if you expect to go and have your dog sit on your lap, think again. read more

So do not sign in for the Petco reward of $19.99 a month. Again do not!!! It is a year commitment. I signed up because like any other marketing strategy they will make you believe you will be benefiting from their amazing membership. One reason to cancel is they do not want to take my puppy because it has some a knot. Literally a knot. Outrageously ridiculous. They will only do grooming to the perfect easy dog! Don't fall into this trap. Excuses will be their way of serving you!!! I tried to get out of this monthly charge and it is not possible- unless you have more time than to right this review or have a nice lawyer to take care of it. I'm sure there is a way but my only way is to help people know that this is a bad decision. If I can have 100 people a month to not sign in I am happy to pay the rest of the year! One unhappy customer for $24,000 less in revenue for Petco if I can reach 100 customers not to sign up for this. Darius wasn't only giving me and my partner attitude, he also referred to his coworker (Christopher) as f****** retarded. That's completely disrespectful and very unprofessional. Not only did he give us snappy attitude, but treating other coworkers the way he did is unacceptable. I hope that management has a serious talk with Darius, because I wouldn't want my business ran with people like that. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I adopted a two month old kitten here on Wednesday, June 28th. It was my very first kitten, I was super excited to take him home with me. I made sure to ask all necessary medical questions. Except, they forgot one SMALL detail- my kitten had RINGWORM. So, aside from spending about $50 on food, litter, etc., I had to take him to the vet and spend another $50. The worst part of it all, is that I had him for ONE day. I got him the 28th, had him the 29th, and had to bring him back on the 30th. So aside from these incompetent morons wasting me time, energy, and love, they have also succeeded in depressing me to no end. I can't remember the last time I was so upset. Don't trust their sexing! I purchased two female guinea pigs in June. Well it turns out they gave me a male and a female. For a general pet owner, it's very difficult to breed guinea pigs. Now I can't even keep them in the same cage because of this issue. I either need to keep them separated, which is not ideal because they like to have a companion, or buy two more. Which definitely won't be from Petco because they obviously don't know what they're doing. Buy a pet somewhere else! read more

This review is specifically for the Dog Training course offered in-store. After adopting our 10lb fluffy ball of joy, who shortly thereafter became our 11lb disheveled ball of terror, we decided to try the Dog Classes offered by Petco. There are 2 basic options: 6 weeks or 12 weeks. We were cautiously optimistic in signing up for the 6 week class, but after several 'accidents' on our rug, we upgraded. Our instructor's name was Felisha (not Felicia or Felishia- get it right,). Felisha is one of those people with the uncanny ability to let any dog know who the HBIC is. Within seconds of handling our pup on the leash, it was as if she swallowed tranquilizers and joojoo behavior juice. Within 4 sessions we confidentially learned 'Sit' 'Leave It', walking on a leash and basic house training. I was very impressed. My only critique is that the class sizes should be smaller. When more than 3 dogs show up, it makes it difficult for them to pay attention, or get specialized coaching from the trainer. Overall I would definitely recommend Felisha, but would suggest looking in to at-home training options. read more

I came here on my way home from Evos (healthy fast food) and had to pick up a few things so I decided to stop in. First of all, let me say that this is quite possibly the largest pet store that I have ever been in (in my entire life). Now let me also say that it was extremely depressing seeing several kittens in cages, sooo many fish in tiny tiny tiny little aquariums which is absolutely not sufficient for a fish to swim in, and all sorts of other reptiles for sale. It is VERY depressing to see how those animals are forced to live at the mercy of human's for the sake of dollar bills$. I digress.....Sooo I saw an extensive selection of what I was looking for aka cat scratching post and new litter box. My cat gets litter all over the floor after she goes and no not because she's messy but because she's crazy. She looks up at me with joy when she sees my eyes get huge as she scrapes littler and flings it all over the floor (just for fun). So I decided to get her a litter box with a lid so that she cannot get that guilty pleasure any longer. I found a really nice selection of I guess what one would call high end litter boxes. I also found some really nice scratching posts for my little kitty even though they came with a nice price tag ($70 for scratching post, really?). It's not the cheap carpet crap that has a really weird color that looks odd in every place you put it in your house. It's the fancy schmancy kind that my cat actually enjoys scratching. They had a huge selection of food and other items and the staff was EXTREMELY helpful. They helped me carry the scratching post to the register and asked if I needed help carrying it to my car. There was also a beautiful fox there (random) and the petco employee held it up for me so that I could take a picture without me asking. Let's just say between Petco and Petsmart there is no comparison. The only thing that I would want petco to change is how big the cages are for the animals that they are trying to $ell. read more

I want to like this place but their return policy has made it impossible. I purchased a bunch of stuff for my kittens and sadly the cashier accidentally left the collars out of the bag. When I called when I got home, they told me they do not offer refunds and that I would have to come back to the store and pick up the collars. When I explained that it wasn't convenient for me to go back (at the time I lived in Miami Shores), they literally could have cared less. At that point, I probably should have just disputed the charges with my bank but since it was about $24 out of $100+, I didn't. BIG MISTAKE. All I wanted was my money back since the items were paid for but not placed in my bag something that was in fact, ENTIRELY CAUSED BY THEM. They told me they would leave a bag with my purchase, name and phone # and I could pick it up at anytime. I explained that it would more than likely be weeks before I could come back and could they at least mail them to me (crazy of me, right?) and once again, they said no and cared less. Long story short, when I finally went back, no one knew where my stuff was, no one remembered the situation, no one cared and in the end, I was RIPPED off. Hard to believe this is chain. I cannot imagine ever going in there again. I still want my $24 bucks too. read more

I like this store, for it is a big box store that has managed to blend into a small scale neighborhood. I am sure there are larger installments of this chain, like the one out in Kendall, but they really do have all you need. The other reason I keep coming back to this store is that they always have great sales for the stuff I need. I have 2 large dogs (and 2 cats) that require food, lots of food. Trying to balance their diet at least a little I prefer a certain brand that usually is on sale here for $6 to $8 off...this adds up. The store also feature a good selection of natural products, again I am partial to the 4 legged variety, but it seems that flying and swimming pet fans (or fans of flying and swimming pets) also get what they need here. Most of the time there is only one (wo)manned station but they are always friendly and helpful. Join the Pet rewards program (whatever their name is), it will get you additional coupons and it really does work... read more

Unlike other reviewers, I thought this Petco was very spacious, clean, and otherwise enjoyable! I may not be an expert on fish happiness, but whoever said the fish were "crammed" into tiny cages were dead wrong. Their enclosure is actually really large (pictures attached) and they looked happy. The aisles were clean and the amount of cute dogs I saw in there was enough to satisfy any other dog lover. Dang, can't wait to come back! read more

I really like this petco location. My hey always have really good sales for toys/beds/treats/and pet clothing. Mostly for dogs but you did some hidden gems for cats too if you look hard enough. I like that petco offers to refill your kitty litter for $9.99. That's an amazing deal (especially if you're a crazy cat lady and have lots of beautiful kitty's) They have a place inside to adopt kittens or puppies, as well as doggie trainer. I thinks it's great that they have an charity baskets by the exit so you can donate any type of pet food, or a pet cage. It really helps out so don't forget to donate :) read more

So it's over a month later and I must say that my review of the customer service at this store has definitely not changed. Because of the dog trainer I met in my last review, I have signed my puppy up for classes which are amazing and bought waaaay more than I would have if I was on my own buying things. I have also discovered that it's not Petco but this particular staff member that has made me loyal to the company. Felisha, the dog trainer, has gone out of her way even after she has clocked out because well, she really cares about what she does and the animals she gives her service to. I have gone to other stores but it's just not the type of honest and sincere customer service she gives. This Petco has a real winner on their staff and because of it, I am a fan of Petco. I have learned about their services and how they help pets with charity bins. They have animals up for adoption every day! There are great every day savings and I learned how to buy what's best for my breed of dog. I couldn't be happier! Happy shopping!! read more

The grooming department is a total disgrace. They are extremely unprofessional. I called days in advance to book an express appointment for my dog and they took forever on the phone to make the appointment, finally an employee named Joseph guaranteed me he would personally do my dog's grooming, and I explained to him it was her first time at that location. The next day I called to confirm with Joseph and spoke with him, to confirm that he would personally do the grooming and HE CONFIRMED AGAIN THAT HE WOULD DO THE GROOMING HIMSELF, the next day. I drove for over an hour with my dog to get there, and I arrived on time , but had to wait for quite a while at the counter, and instead he took another dog who arrived there at the same time as mine, because JOSEPH DOUBLED BOOKED!! The other customer was extremely rude , obnoxious, she kept yelling over me the entire time and shoving her young adult/teen fingers in my face, being self-entitled and attempting to make me stop talking by yelling over me, ordering me to shut up, alleging that she was a long time customer and that she believed that, just because of that, she preceded me. JOSEPH DOUBLE BOOKED TWO EXPRESS APPOINTMENTS, and told me he WAS NOT GOING TO HONOR MY APPOINTMENT. I drove over two hours total with my dog for that scam! But hey, who wants to deal with a horrible grooming salon and an out of control , self-entitled teen/young adult? NEVER GO THERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR DOG OR YOUR TIME!!! read more

The aquarium fish selection in this is now a absolute Joke. They had a poor selection of fish to begin with compared to other Petco however they recently downside what was already a very small tank selection. I'm talking about less tanks and the tanks they do have seem smaller. This is intentional, someone there decided to remove area of the store for the aquarium fish. I visited the store on the day they had new fish arrivals which should be the day they are most stocked however they had almost nothing. There are fish that require a group of 5 of them to schooling but they will have like 1 or 2 fish. I don't know what is going on with this store. Also another issue with Petco in general( not just this particular store) is they will their system will charge your gift card if you attempt a transaction but not actually place it. For example, if you submit an order but encounter an error message, don't be surprise if amount of the order was charged to your gift card even without an order being placed. Their system also will not return your money at any point in time unless you catch the error and call immediately. Also, they won't tell you the gift card Transaction history so you can't even tell if the money is missing or improperly charged. read more

It took three approvals from my dog's Vet and six calls from me to get them to finally approve my dog's prescription food. It's been a week and they still can't get it done. The prescription was finally approved and are now telling me that it won't ship for another three days. WORST SERVICE EVER! Their vet tech team is terrible! Buy from anyone else. read more

I have a cocker spaniel that I get groomed here on a regular basis. The results are always satisfactory as they do a good job trimming and clipping without stressing out my dog. When I tell my dog we are going to Petco she knows what I am saying and wags her tail and gets excited. So the staff are very competent and professional and you can depend on them to take care of your needs. I also buy all my dog food here. I like an obscure brand that is hard to find elsewhere but Petco always has a good supply and selection that ensures my dog's continued contentment. A good variety of treats as well as toys and supplies pretty well guarantees that I won't be going anywhere else, especially since I feel the pricing on everything is competitive with other sources. For the convenience of finding everything I want under one roof, you know that I will continue to come back time after time. read more
