I think these things largely depend on the individuals who happen to be working there at the moment. But the groomers who are at the Ballard/Crown Hill Petco right now are great! We've taken both of our dogs in at different times and we've always been happy with the results. One of them, in particular, has crazy long, puffy fur and they have done SUCH a good job with her -- better than any other place we've ever taken her. Regarding another reviewer's rather prominent picture of a paw with a bloody nail -- my aunt previously worked as a groomer and says that, while of course it's not ideal, sometimes a nail get "quicked" and it's really no big deal -- styptic powder usually stops it right away and the dog often doesn't even notice. Not sure what's happening with that dog, but it seems like probably an anomaly.... Also, as others have said, they do sometimes take a long time with dogs, especially with our big-haired doggy, but they're so much more thorough than most places that I think it's worth it. read more

The only thing Petco is good for is a cheap toy, and that doesn't usually last very long. A lot of their foods have bad stuff in it, and most of the humans there don't know much about it. I think the only thing my person has ever bought there is cat litter, and it wasn't for our cats, because it had perfumes in it. Yuck. They do have kitties in cages though. What's not to love about that! Though my person feels bad for the kitties in cages, but she says they are waiting to get forever homes. So go save a cat from a cage. read more

I was here awhile ago to buy some supplies to take care of my sick goldfish. The girl teaching me how to use the vacuum tank tube actually put her lips around the tube and sucked on it and then gave it to me with the intent to sell it...ummm ewww I dont want to put my mouth on that now..thanks though. oh and my fish died :(...hahah...petco probably couldnt have saved my wal mart feeder fish...he was 6 years old. read more

Honestly, Petco has friendly service and does a good job with our senior dog. I wish the drop-off time was shorter, and that they let them out for a pee break in the few hours they're there, but my dog isn't terrified to go in, and he comes out clean and looking great. With both this dog, and a dog I had previously that brought here, ordering sensitive shampoo doesn't seem to mean getting sensitive shampoo. It still has pretty strong fragrance, and it makes my dog itchy and covered in dandruff. I have to condition him at home or rub aloe into his skin. -1 star for that, but this isn't the only groomer I've found that with, and I use dog conditioner on my dog at home, which I know is not standard. The price and cut are good, and I feel good about leaving my baby with them. read more

This review is strictly for Petco's grooming service and specifically for Jasmine who is the best dog groomer EVARRR! She's always patient with my pup, even with his unruly Pomeranian hair, and she cuts his hair perfectly every time. She also gets close to areas of my dog that I wouldn't venture without gloves. So, in my book, I'm definitely a fan of her grooming specialties. On another note, I think this Petco is clean and the folks have always been friendly and helpful when I come in. I wish they had more sales and specials focused at their Petco PALS members. I'm talking about grooming and food special discounts advertised and sent out as little booklets that I receive in the mail monthly. Yeah, that would be nice... read more

Grooming OK, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the grooming services at this Petco. I sent my dog, Bailey, in for "the Works" ($40) which includes deep conditioning, shampoo, nail clip and teeth brushing. The workers were all super friendly and did a great job. Bailey is all spiffed up and she seemed to like the workers too. Did kind of take a while, I dropped her off at 10am, and they called to pick her up at 1pm, so plan some errands in-between. I don't normally spend money on real grooming- I am more of a wash her in the downstairs tub kind of person, but worth it for a special treat. read more

There is an INCREDIBLY rude and condescending woman who works in the aquarium area (Crown Hill location). Apparently I'm not qualified to care for a fantail goldfish. I tried to kill her with kindness on my second visit and that helped a bit -- she actually allowed me to purchase said fish -- but I could tell she didn't want to. And, really, should I be the one trying to kill HER with kindness? Get a freaking clue fish-lady. read more

No, I don't love the ferrets or mice or fish on display, and the ambiance is, shall we say, minimal, but the employees have always been friendly, resourceful, and attentive to me and my pup. They may have a lot of junky stuff for sale, but they have good quality, all-natural stuff too. Then I can still afford to buy special treats from some of Seattle's other wonderful pet shops. And if you have a puppy who is demolishing toys left and right (as they should!), then Petco is a financially responsible place to furnish his or her chewing habits. read more

I like Petco! This store is my go to for less expensive or more popular items that you cannot find for a good price or at all in the local boutique stores. Pet grooming wipes, natural balance treats, pet safe carpet cleaners, are all less expensive at Petco than the smaller stores. I find that the staff at this location are always friendly and ready to help when I need it. They also always open up more registers when the line gets long to minimize the wait which I appreciate. They have lots of stuff available to clean up after your pet if they make a mess in the store. The store is clean and I think the way it is organized makes sense. They also have a rewards program. The products and prices at Petco aren't remarkable for a large pet store, but the service is awesome. I buy way too much stuff for my dog, so I visit Petco frequently. Almost every visit, the staff is warm, friendly, and helpful. The grooming service is wonderful. I feel like the groomers care about my dog, and take good care of her. It's a great store. read more

I get my dog groomed here and have only gone here so cant compare it to much. I love the affordable prices and special packets. My only complaint is that it does take like 4 hours and I don't like to leave my dog anywhere for that long. Lisha and her staff are incredibly nice and do an excellent job. My dog always comes away happy. I do have to say that my dog is pretty good and doesn't really freak during baths or haircuts so they probably have an easy time with her. Anways, I also ask to have my dog's nails dremmeled rather than cut-it doesn't hurt as much as a nail cutter and they do a great job and offer a good deal. I also love the Luv My Pet Vet Service that comes on Saturdays. They offer affordable shots. read more

I'm not sure what's happened to this Petco location, at least with the Grooming Dept. We had stability for more than three years with a group of attendants who were excellent. But in the last six months it has been difficult to even schedule an appointment. I'm serious. I've called several times and haven't had people pick up the phone. Look, I understand, it can get busy and tough to instantly answer the phone -- I don't expect people to drop everything for me. But at the same time, when I call back -- several times -- and have to wait on hold for more than five and closer to ten minutes, then something is definitely wrong. It shouldn't be this much work to try and even schedule an appointment, never mind the staff even knowing who we or our dogs are. It has seemed very chaotic back there the last 2-3 times that I took my dog in. There seems to be high staff turnover right now and it is hard to tell who the heck is in charge. The people are nice enough, it just seems like there is a lack of direction and/or management. And that's on the ownership. Are there new owners because this kind of change usually happens when new people move in and drive their best staff people away. I am sorry to write this. I liked this Petco a great deal and will likely still buy treats here as it is close to my house. This is not against anybody who works there. At the same time, I just figured out that I am exactly equidistant with the Interbay Petco store so if things don't turn around soon I may just start going there. For the last month and a half or so I've been putting of getting my cat a lion cut despite the fact that she has been shedding all over the place and coughing fur balls at an alarming rate. It seems that there are just not that many places that do cat grooming in Seattle and the yelp reviews I was reading about places seemed to be alarmingly polarized. I checked with my vet to see if they did grooming and they did but it was crazy expensive. I finally started calling around and decided to give Petco a try. The woman on the phone was nice and patient and answered all my questions. I've just gotten home with my slightly freaked but newly foxy kitty and I have to say I am very happy. It was very reasonable ($60) and Zelda looks like a little lion. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because her "mane" is a little uneven. But she's a happy kitty and I'm a happy kitty friend. read more

This review is for the grooming department. Several Sundays ago I woke up dismayed by the whiff of dog and floating hair bunnies when I turned on my furnace. Yes, I assure you I DO clean my house. But I have this big German Shepherd mix that is blowing her winter coat and it's just nasty even though she is the most perfect dog ever and I love her to bits. I'm always surprised by the cost of the self-serve dog-wash on Greenwood ($20). If I have to wash my own damn dog I'm certainly not going to pay $20. I'd rather pay a bit more and have someone else do it especially if they use those awesome dryers that get all the extra hair out! I needed dog food and treats anyways so I ran up to Petco at 11 AM. Eri (groomer) said she had an opening at 1:00. Great - I'll take it! By 3:00 I had a perfectly clean and fresh woofer so cute even my pet hating mother would approve. Eri was great. She gave me a full report on how well my dog did (including nails) and a TON of her winter coat had been washed/blown/brushed away. She wasn't overly perfumed either. Thanks for a FABULOUS job! Most importantly, my dog was very relaxed and happy when I picked her up. She has Addison's disease and I can always tell if she gets stressed because she gets explosive diarrhea. (Yep....see my review on Honda of Seattle for THAT unfortunate story.) No problems at Petco - she was happy as a clam. I'd love to take her in every 3 weeks or so but at $45/pop including tip it's probably not going to happen. Petco bundles the bath with other stuff like the nail trim which I can do at home. I wish there was a bath only option. In all honesty, the bath at the vet is a bit cheaper since I'm not expected to tip, but at the same time I don't get instant service like I did at Petco. Anyways, sincere thanks Eri for a fabulous job! Oh....one last thing.....PETCO - will you PLEASE get your grooming department a cash register? It's ridiculous to stand in line at the grooming office to get your dog only to be given a ticket which you have to take back up front to the register, stand in a long line on an Sunday afternoon to pay, then take the receipt BACK to the grooming office and stand in line again to get your dog. You are losing a star for this. I'm sure your groomers will agree. They were standing there with my dog in hand waiting for me to return from paying (which took forever). What a waste of everyone's time. read more

We pick up our bulk cat litter here because the price is good and it keeps waste down by refilling their container. Sometimes I will buy the occasional cat toy or treat but for the most part, it's just the litter. The employees are friendly even when the queues lengthen and they have to page someone to the registers for help. My only qualm is that I find the parking lot a little odd and I always end up turning around to maneuver my car into a spot. read more

Pretty decent Petco that's pretty close to our house. The store size is pretty large and they hold all of the good quality foods that any of the other standard pet stores will have. Their grooming salon is pretty decent as they take in lots of walk-in's, but I have to say that it really stinks in there. You can tell that there is very little ventilation in the holding area as it smells like musty, wet dog. They should really fix this. Checkout can take awhile sometimes as they are always calling on the intercom for more help. It might come, might not. read more

For years we have brought our cat here for nail trimmings & baths. The grooming staff has always been very friend and gentle with our kitty baby. When I make a trip into Petco I always make sure I go and visit all the fish, birds and ferrets, they're so cute! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. But sometimes there is a lack of customer service reps for whatever reason and I have to stand in the check out line longer then I would like. I do like the fact that they have a large parking lot. Sometimes I avoid going to certain business just because parking can be a pain but not a Petco. Thank you Petco for giving my cat good quality food at decent prices! read more

Rating is for the Fish Department So, I am a nervous fish owner. Things die in my tank, despite water changes and vacuuming. A year ago I came into the Ballard Petco in search of something that wouldn't dominate my tank, was big and colorful, however most importantly was hearty! The woman in the fish department not only was helpful, but after helping me pick a nice healthy blood parrot cichlid. She then suggested I bring in a water sample which I did the next day. Upon testing, the PH was off; she pointed me toward a couple solutions....and a week later she retested the water to find it was perfect. My fish haven't been healthier and anytime I am a little nervous about the tank, "Mona" the fish lady always seems to have the perfect solution! The only reason there isn't a 5 star rating, is because when she hasn't been working the people filling in don't have her knowledge or patience. Figure out how to clone Mona, Petco, and you'll get that 5th star! read more

After being caught in a lie, the manager finally told us that they don't do older dogs, despite being healthy and current on shots. Our vet recommended Great Dog Grooming out by Northgate. read more

This is where I go all the time to get my turtle supplies for my turts and the lady (sorry don't know your name in the aquatic department has tatoos I believe) is amazing...she knows everything and is so congenial i love her! The manager there is a nice fellow I just recently met him because my boyfriend bought me their adorable Dusky Concure for Christmas I love him so much! I ended up naming him Yahtzee! Shawn just in case you are wondering he is doing wonderfully and he doesn't even mind me touching his tail feathers... I will bring him in once it gets warmer! He is doing fabulously I hope you have found a new little birdie to love and care for! I 'd get a few things for my poochy but she is allergic to corn, wheat and soy and their inventory is limited so I have to go elsewhere for that... Please start carrying Solid Gold and I will be happy... The University Petco does but only small bags! Anyway this store is great and I love to shop there I believe their choices are pretty great under normal conditions and the people are extrememly friendly! I gave 5 stars in spite of having to go elsewhere for my pooch but I would also love for Petco to offer special order/sizing of fish/turtle tanks. By the way if anyone is ever wondering about pets and you see the red earred sliders they have buy a couple they make fabulous pets and are fun to watch... I didn't get mine there but if I didn't already have two I would certainly but one from them... mine were a gift. Grooming forgot to call me when my dog was finished twice. Calls to grooming consistently go unanswered in the afternoon so you can't find out if your dog is ready for pickup. I have two small children so need to be sure before we go anywhere. I have no idea how long my dog sat in their kennel after her cleaning was completed. Ugh, Petco. You are the bane of my existance. I'm giving you two stars because I still shop at you, but if I could give you no stars, I would honestly prefer that. Thing is, Petco, it could have been great. You're close to my house, you sell crickets for my lovely lady lizard, as a chain I thought you might be a bit cheaper. But alas, it clearly was not meant to be. The first time I came to visit you, I saw some little bearded dragons all sitting in the cutest pose, so I snapped a picture on my iPhone to share with my friends. This could have been free advertising for you, but NO! An employee swiftly arrived to scold me about their firm (unmarked) rule of no pictures. Um, ok. That's a stupid rule, Petco, but whatever, I can get over it: I want things to work out for us. So I continue to browse your limited selection of herp supplies and that same employee stays nearby, then climbs up onto the ladder to retrieve something from a high shelf- on the way down he (I'm sure accidentally) knocks me in the head, hard enough that it hurt for the rest of the day. I said, "hey!" but he ignored me, didn't even apologize, and walked away. The worst thing about it, Petco, is that despite being injured by an employee in your store, I have to continue to shop at you. Nobody else in Seattle, near as I can tell, sells crickets, and the gecko's gotta eat. I hate you, petco, I truly do. read more

The Petco's in Seattle have really become cutting edge with the new Vetco's. This is a walk-in vet clinic at Petco that is brand new that offer low cost wellness for cats and dogs. Expect to pay about 1/3 for excellent care as compared to what a regular vet clinic would charge. The clinic is an open glass room concept that is really the nicest I've seen anywhere. They tend to hire vets that are seasoned and have been practicing a long time and that know how to interact well with pet owners. That has been my experience! read more

I brought my dog in for grooming (first time I've groomed him outside so I don't have anything to compare to). He had some matted down fur, and was due for a wash because I've let him romp around at the dog park a little too much. I dropped him off around 10 am and they said it would take about 4 hours. I didn't get a call until 4:30.... which annoyed me a little, because it ruined all other plans I had for that day. BUT, for $50 they did do a great job trimming his fur (he looks much smaller), is overall much whiter, fluffier and cuter. They did an awesome job! read more

I think this is the smallest and dingiest Petco I've ever seen. And you know what? That makes me like it. It feels more like a neighborhoody pet store, not like the neon light awfulness that Petco usually feels like. The store was definitely clean, despite its feeling of oldness. Myself and my roomate brought our dogs here at the same time for grooming. For the record, I have a shih tzu poodle, and she has two pomeranians. When I called to make the appointment about a week beforehand, I asked for the price of the grooms. I was told that for both of our small breeds, it would be $40 + $10 extra for the teeth brushing. $50 per dog sounded great, so we booked the appointment. We go to our appointment, and the three groomers who greeted us were very friendly, but also seemed unorganized and ameature-ish. When they mentioned the price, they quoted us that the cut starts around $52 and the teeth brushing is $13. When I mentioned that this was not the cost I was given on the phone when I spoke to the grooming department, she brushed it off and said "you must have talked to someone new"... there are only 4 groomers at this location, so I doubt that, and even if so, take ownership for the price you gave me. The groomers just didn't seem that professional.. at one point, the younger guy at the counter was telling us that he loves grooming dogs and he explained to us that he used to be in the restaurant business but, "eventually I said fu** this sh*t, and got out of it".. ok? cool story, bro. My roomate swears that other Petco's have always made her dogs look great, so we went ahead with the service despite it being about $30 more per dog than we were initially quoted. We left, and about an hour and a half later, the same guy who was cussing earlier called me and asked "do you know that your dog is scared of loud noises?" I replied that no, he's never shown signs of that before, despite being around fireworks he doesn't get scared of loud noises. The groomer said my dog tried to bite him every time he clipped him and he tried to bite the scissors when he was cutting around his face. He then went silent.. I thought, ok? Are you calling to complain about this to me, or is there something I need to know? My dog has always been very nervous with groomers, but I've not had a groomer tell me of these issues in at least the past 4 grooms he has had. When I first got him last summer, that behavior wouldn't have been surprising, but I was a little surprised to hear it now from this Petco. The groomer then told me he shaved off the tiny little knots of hair my dog had from licking his private area. the groomer goes "Yeah, I wouldn't want those on my region either.." Alright dude! Can you be more professional? I appreciated that they kept us informed, but when we picked up the dogs.. - the poms looked ridiculous. My roomate asked for teddy bear haircuts several times. they actually got lion cuts instead; there was no blending out of the fur on their heads down to their necks. they look like naked rats except for their head and tail. - my dog's hair around his paws were not addressed, so now he's got shaggy feet but a shaved body. - all 3 of our dogs were given to us without being brushed off, so both myself and my roomate and my car were covered in hair clippings. Bottom line is Petco is WAY overpriced for grooms; I've gone to smaller grooming companies and gotten better service for at least $20 cheaper than what I paid here. I even overheard one of the groomers telling another customer that there is an extra charge if they have to shave the dog before bathing it.. what? They nickle and dime you here and don't even do that great of a job. Will return to my smaller more independent grooming salons from here on out. read more

I couldn't be happier with the care my dog received in the grooming dept. Adam was friendly and efficient. Such a great experience. I never thought I'd say Petco is my grooming salon, but it is and it's a lot better than some other places I have been to. Also they take evening appts which is unheard of anywhere else. read more

I use the grooming services there and while it isn't the best place it does a good enough job and the people in the grooming department are very nice. What is the scam is the P.A.L.S program. They tell you that after 8 grooms you get 1 for free. Well here is the real story: you get 1 free groom if you ever receive a coupon for it because you need the coupon to cash it in and the trick is you never get it. If you save up the receipts that prove you got 8 grooming services you still can't get a free groom. You can complain all you want and you will get no where except apologies, and promises to send you the coupon and nothing. This is my second batch of 8 grooms so shame on me for getting rooked twice. Petco you should not be in business if you do business this way. read more
