This Petco located off of Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell is near the East Roswell Public Library and next to the Kroger Grocery Store. It's actually in the next shopping center. (There is an open divider between the two shopping strip allowing you to move from one to another.) For years I actually avoided Petco because I had read that they didn't take good care of the animals that they sold in their stores. (Personally I don't buy animals. I rather adopt from a shelter but that's a personal preference.) But over the years I heard that Petco listened to people's concerns have improved the conditions and changed the way they care for the live animals that is sold in their stores. (I like it when I see a retailer do this. It's better for the customer and it's good business practice.) Even though I shop more often at Petsmart because they are closer to my house. Over the past few months however I've been frequenting Petco more often for a couple of reasons. The first is the quality of the items they sell. How Petco differs from Petsmart is that they carry more higher quality pet food. More grain-free and starch-free products with human grade ingredients in them. Petsmart carries them too but I think Petco carries a bigger variety. The second reason I started shopping at Petco is because I think the customer service is better at Petco. While I don't really need help shopping for my pets when I'm at either establishment. I am however open to suggestions when a member of the staff will show me an item that might enhance my pet's health or diet. I find that Petco is better at this than Petsmart. Almost always when I am at Petco I am approached by a sales team member asking if I need help or can they help me find something. This never happens or rarely does so when I am shopping at Petsmart. My only negative thing about this particular store is that I found a couple of cans of expired cat food on their shelf that I brought to their attention. (The item was Solid Gold's gourmet cat food in tuna with gravy) To be fair I don't think this is a common occurrence. The only reason I noticed it was because the company changed the packaging a couple of years ago. One of the employees called me a "stupid fat bitch" and tried insisting my name was Sarah when I kept explaining to her that it was Farrah, while I was trying to pick up my order. She was obviously having a bad day and chose to direct her anger in my direction which is highly inappropriate. She screamed at me about how she "doesn't have time for these dumbass customers". She then literally walked out of the store, got in her car and drove away. This was a bit of a traumatic situation for me, having a stranger make negative comments on my body and appearance and then scream in my face. I was quite stunned. But that happened a few weeks ago, and isn't even what's prompting this review. What finally made me want to write this was another occurrence I just had today with the manager of all people. I went into the store because I only received 9 of my 12 cans of cat food from a curbside order. I called and was told to come by the store and pick up the missing cans. But once I got there, the MANAGER KEN refused me of a refund/ exchange. He insisted that I would be getting a new receipt emailed to me in 2-3 days with the updated order total despite me telling him I already got a finalized receipt email that said I was charged for all 12 cans. I had zero indication on my email/ receipt that the item was refunded. I had absolutely zero proof on my receipt of the item being out of stock. I explained all of this but he refused to listen to me and basically told me I was lying and hadn't received the correct email. I had to walk away empty handed, unhelped, and called a liar. I then called the 800 number and was immediately given a refund and told that the info Ken had told me was inaccurate. So unprofessional of him to refuse to remedy the problem AND insinuate that I was lying. But that just seems to be the normal way this location treats their customers! I have never been treated so poorly as a customer in any establishment ever, not once, but TWO SEPARATE TIMES. There is no excuse for either of these bad encounters. The employees are extremely rude and the managers don't care about your problems. Shopping here has been a nightmare and I'm officially switching to Petsmart after over a decade as a loyal Petco customer. Shame on this location and shame on you, Ken. read more

The location on Holcomb Bridge is the worst service, by far, of any Petco. First appointment of the day, bath, nail trim, toothbrushing for a 20lb dog. They told me 2-2 1/2 hours. I've never been told more than 90 minutes and have actually gotten wonderful service in 45 minutes at other Petco locations. When I arrived 2 hrs 45 min later, two other dogs were being serviced. My dog was bathed but not brushed out and no nails or toothbrushing yet. The groomer told me it would be at least 45 more minutes. They also wonr do walk in nail cutting as "they have to disinfect the grooming station between dogs." If that's the case, why wasn't my dog complete before they started working on the other two dogs being groomed when I arrived??? I've changed locations and have had wonderful, timely service. read more

Petco overall is a good place when it comes to products. When I walked in i was disappointed in the living conditions that these animals are in. the animals look like they haven't been taken care of at all. As you see in the fish bowl the fishes are literally eating each other in the fish tank,it's crowded,tank is dirt. Which means that's they aren't feeding the fishes. The animal's look miserable in there. I'm not saying that the place should be shut down or anything but I think that this place needs some changing. read more

I went back to Petco yesterday to get a photo of the fridge and check the temperature. Put a very accurate instant-read thermometer with its probe pressed tight, in between two bags of the cat food. Walked around the store for a few minutes to make sure thermometer stabilzed. My wife had been a store manager to look at the fridge when we'd returned some spoiled cat food. The manager looked at the time and said the fridge was 46 degrees. Food will start spoiling above 40 degrees. Either they don't know that or just don't care. read more

Petco groomers seriously injured my dog while he was in their care. He had a major gash on his face, front right leg had razor burn so badly that it scabbed, and his anus had a cut on it. I am furious, but when I started googling what kind of action I could take against the company, I learned that Petco is notorious of KILLING dogs while they are in their care. I am so grateful he only came out cut and bruised. I am horrified. They didn't even mention it when I picked him up, just hoped I wouldn't notice. I have contacted a lawyer and am making it my life's mission to be sure no one else's baby has to endure this sort of barbaric torture. Google won't let me post pictures, but if I could you would be shocked. Please don't risk it. My mind has since changed from my previous review about discontinuing to frequent this establishment. I have decided to make this my go-to place for picking up things that I might not otherwise find at PetsMart or if I am too lazy to drive all the way to PetsMart or if I just need or want to save on gas and mileage. I do occasionally frequent this business, because it is just right up the street from my house. However, although the prices are still a little more exorbitant than PetsMart, they are still more convenient to me than PetsMart is. This is still and will always my second go-to place other than PetsMart to pick up and purchase all or most of my canine necessities. The last time that I have visited this place, they still do have a very nice variety and selection of pet products. This business is still always kept completely clean and well organized as well as fully stocked (most of the time). The staff is still friendly, professional, helpful, and courteous as always. I have visited other Petco locations in the past and this one does seem to be a little bit smaller than the other Petco locations that I have been to and visited in the past. read more

I guess we are just supposed to get used to stupidity, lack of customer service and dealing with employees who just don't give a damn. How is this ok and how do these people get hired? I just came back from Petco where there was no one behind any of the registers when I was ready to check out. There was however a female employee with a bandana in her hair who was talking to someone that made direct eye contact with me while I was standing at her open register and she promptly looked away an continued her conversation. After waiting a few minutes in direct sight of this idiot employee, I started wandering around the store looking for another employee with no-one to be found. At this time a line of 4-5 people had started to form. The employee was still talking to someone completely ignoring the fact that a line was now wrapping around the front of her register that she completely seemed to care less about. I finally walked over to her and inquired if there was someone available at check-out and she promptly told me I needed to find someone else. What kind of customer service is this? How do these people even get hired or paid to just do what they want and ignore the basic duties of their job? Finally, another lady rushed out to help, confirmed the open register was in fact the chatty woman ignoring the line of people and acted like it was no big deal. My comment was unrelated to the reason for the survey. A few days later I received an email from the store manager inviting me to come back to the store to have my issue resolved. The manager yelled repeatedly at me because I wasn't happy with how the groomer ruined my puppies hair. He yelled at me in front of everyone and when I yelled back he raised his voice even louder saying " do not yell at me!!!" It was extremely humiliating and although I got my money back, I will never set foot in that store because of that extremely rude and unprofessional manager. The groomer was sweet and nice, she didn't know how to fix it but she was polite. The manager on the other hand has no business dealing with clients, unprofessional and unable to control himself. From the moment he came up to try to fix the situation he started rolling his eyes and showing how frustrated he was to even deal with me, I was upset and didn't need to be humiliated on top of that. I have never been yelled at by a store manager in my entire life. This Petco made me hate all Petco's and I will not step foot inside these stores due to their terrible customer service and the groomers. First incident, I usually schedule an appointment for my dog early in the morning and he had an appointment at 8 AM. If my dog has an appointment scheduled at 8 AM; I expect you to be there on time. I walked through the half closed doors and there were 2 people inside. One guy cleaning the floors and a girl walking around doing..I have no idea. I walked to the grooming counter waiting for someone to help me or at least acknowledge me. The girl saw me but continued to do whatever. So as I stood inside the store; I called to get some acknowledgment. She walks towards the counter and says "you're waiting on the groomer?" Told her I was and it was now 8:07 AM. I asked her where the groomer was; because, I had an appointment. She said she didn't know. So are you going to find out or what? Not wasting my time waiting on someone. So as I headed out the door she said "you're not going to wait? That's ridiculous." You're ridiculous and your customer service is terrible. Second incident, PetSmart was booked so I decided to give this location another try. This time my dog did get a haircut; however, he had a massive bump right above his eye. What happened to my yorkie? The groomer wasn't even going to say anything until I mentioned it. People leave their animals in these people's hands and this is what happens. Absolutely ridiculous! My dog was ecstatic to leave that store and I will never take him inside a Petco again. read more

I don't like this Petco as much as my old location in Sandy Springs. It's smaller and the store layout seems weird in comparison. I had trouble finding what I needed. They were also out of stock of a few things I wanted to buy. Staff was okay, but nothing special. There was a Gentleman that was really helpful and friendly. I was ready to check out and the lady at the check out was another story. I tell her a dog pee'd on the floor right there and she says "oh they have clean up stations for you right there" umm did you hear me say "A" dog pee'd. I didn't say "MY" dog pee'd. I KNOW to clean up my dog's pee if it were hers. It's a hazard and I would have cleaned it up promptly if I even "THOUGHT" it was my dog's pee. She also made another smart comment but I'm not going to get into it. I drove to the Petco which was out of my way anyway looking for a car booster seat and the nice guy found it for me. Stopped in to look for some cat toys. They had a pretty good selection but they seem kind if pricey compared to what I've found elsewhere or on Amazon. Either way, I did find one or two things so it was a successful trip. There were a lot of people their with their dogs for a training class and it's set up right by the registers, which I found kind of odd. The layout doesn't seem to make much sense to me. The check out guy was a little rude at first. He was filling out a form when we walked up and continued to do so for a little while and barely acknowledged us. There were two other employees standing right there and no one said a word. When he did finally put the form away he was attentive. I got what I needed - well, more like I settled on a couple of things - but I don't think I would go back here for much only because it's not too convenient for me. read more

This seems like every other petco. I dont have any experience with getting vaccines or grooming here, but it's where we pick up our dogfood, treats, and toys for our Dachshund Charlie. It's better to feed your pet a natural food instead of the normal kibbles and bits. Just like us, if you only eat food out of convenience, it will take a toll on your weight and health. The prices arent bad and they always have a special on the weekend with coupons and what not. We got $5 off our food last time. We always shop for the clearance toys when we're in, sometimes you can get them for $2-$3 a piece. Why pay $15 for a dog toy when he will just get sick of that toy in a week or two. The staff has always been helpful and answered all of our questions. I have never had a bad experience here. read more

Not the best store in terms of customer service, however they're always well-stocked and their pets look healthy. If anyone knows of a LFS, that has good value and sells freshwater fish I'd be happy to try it out. However I've found that this particular Petco always manages to have great prices and very healthy fish. I've purchased about 10 fish from them so far, and not a single one has gotten sick. Unfortunately I've tried getting fish at the other Petco in Alpharetta and I wasn't so lucky. My poor mollies were gone in a week. My girlfriend buys her dog food for Otto here, and she says the prices are reasonable and the quality is always top notch. So overall a great store, I just wish I didn't have to wait around for 15-20 minutes for someone to help me get the fish I came in for. read more

Stores are in business to serve customers. Managers must be able to deal with customers and especially upset customers. Petco needs to fire this current manager. The manager is smug and self-righteous. He is very immature and cannot effectively listen to his customers. He cannot solve problems. Acts like he has hand-selected every product in the store. Cannot answer a simple question, when asked a simple yes or no question, he refuses to answer and then gives a 30-minute lecture on why is a "genius" on pet goods. Perhaps an Area Director can work with this store and bring in a manager that understands that stores are in business to solve customer problems and to give correct advice. Also, the Area Manager can train this manager not to be "offended" and tell a customer, that he has a "witness" that a customer was rude. I'm very willing to contribute a box of tissue for his training session. I've had to return several items or just thrown them away. Do not shop here. All and any advice here is worthless. Drive to a small pet store with owners that are caring for the customer and to the customers' pet. Shop Chewy and Amazon Store managers like this are the reason retail is dying. read more

I was so pleased with the way they cut them plus the dogs were really happy and didn't have any nicks like they seem to get at other groomers. Nice staff too! TRUE STORY these people sold us bad kitten milk that was suppose to be taken off the shelf. When we fed it to the new born kittens we had found, THEY ALL 5 DIED. To this day my sister still has nightmares of finding the kittens dead she was 4. We took them to a vet and took the milk and the vet told us it was the milk that killed them. We reported the issue to the store and they immediately took offence and acted as though they would sue us. Grooming here is excellent since we found Haru - and we always ask for her. Our Golden/Husky mix doesn't love to be groomed at home, but he warms right up to her, and she does meticulous job. It's clear that Haru loves her work and the pets. She is the #1 reason we come to this store instead of State Bridge. read more

I took my dog to this PetCo today after 2 years of not seeing a groomer. The last placed shaved my dogs nipples off, leaving bloody wounds that have since scarred. The staff was so understanding and patient with me since I was obviously nervous to leave him with someone after the last incident. I had no reason to worry though, I just picked him up and he looks amazing! He obviously had a good experience too because he's so happy and in good spirits. I like the store, but the training leaves something to be desired. I paid for four weeks, and after three the trainer insisted I'd had four. One of those sessions was me coming in to find the store insanely crowded. My dog has fear aggression issues, so that wasn't going to work for him. I wish I had known that me walking in for five minutes and saying 'Let's reschedule' had counted as a training class, or I wouldn't have signed up in the first place! On top of that, she left me floundering and confused, just watching me try to get my dog to do things and never once offering any advice or tips. It was an awful experience. read more

Asked about getting my Black Lab mix a haircut and bath. They said she was too old for them and recommend taking her to a veterinarian?!? Let's just say I have NEVER had an issue at a PerSmart or any other groomer. She has all her shots and is very healthy and playful. They won't groom a dog over 6? What difference does her age have on giving her a haircut? I probably spend 3k dollars and probably more a year on her with toys, collars, food and spoiling her. This is ONLY based on ONE employee, Peace (her real name) in grooming. I have a VERY high strung/'wonky' small/medium dog. I had a horrible experience at the other large chain (will never shop there again), so I came in with very very low expectations. Peace went above and beyond. I take my Lab/Border Collie here for grooming and they always do a great job! Yesterday, Peace took care of my Cooper. This is the first time I have had him shaved and Peace did a fabulous job! He looks great (I was worried, needlessly). He seems happier without all that hair as well. I would definitely recommend this Petco. The rest of the staff is also pretty terrific. read more
