The store was recently remodeled and it feels a lot more cluttered now. The isles are very narrow and many times are blocked with carts used to stock the shelves. Every time I go inside to purchase supplies, I always see AT LEAST two fish that have severe case of the ick disease all over their body and their fins in terrible condition. Normally I don't post negative reviews, but this self bath experience was horrible! My husband and I had taken our two dogs (Labradoodle and mini dachshund ) to get cleaned up following a walk in a park ; possible fleas, etc). We went to the Petco to bathe them. For $15 each we got baskets with small hair filled wire brushes, towels that were dirty and had dead fleas on them. When I complained, just shrugged shoulders from the indifferent employee. The bath area offered cold water and cold air dryers. Our dogs looked at us like what did we do wrong? I love this petco's vet it's amazing. but this review is about that damn groomers they have. I took my poodle in for a wash and cut, before taking her back they had already checked out her matted hair and said they could do it, even informing me that it has to be cut really short because of the matting so i was like Okay it's all good. after about 20 mins of me being already back home they call me and tell me they can't cut it because they just can't cut it, they don't wanna cut her. okay very understandable. then i go pick up my dog and they really gave me back my dog HALF SHAVED. keep in mind she's a damn poodle so she has a lot of hair. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO HALF SHAVE A DOG THEN HAVE THE OWNER COME PICK HER UP?!! next time, really really inspect the dogs hair very well before SHAVING. they could've at least evened it out. nope. the lady that brought my dog out was very rude as well. i said "So you mean to tell me i gotta take my dog home like this?" she was just like "Yeah." hella rude. This grooming literally sucks. The groomer stylist Alyssa had informed that my dog is double coated so she didn't recommended for nothing to be cut off so I agreed for what she told me. My dog has long hairs a trim on the top coat could've been fine. I asked for the shedding package and the tick package. MY DOG CAME BACK THE SAME. My dog hair was flying all over the place and even left hundred of hairs and pratically didn't even get a hair cut more of a bath that's cost 90 fucken dollars. Then I come home my dog has like 6 ticks on her so really what the hell did I pay for ? Never coming back again. Then she told me that my dog got out of the cage how unsafe is that if there's other dogs in the same room. Not worth the money at all. Never coming back ever again. I took my dog here for his training, it started off good but then classes started getting cancel because the other party's in class would not be attending or other reasons(holiday, short staff,etc). We got canceled on 3 time out of 6 classes. We were told by the trainer that he would reach out when he was able to schedule though classes again but we have yet gotten a call or message. Dog grooming here is the worst. They took away my online booking privileges for a missed appointment (which I understand) but the past few times I've brought my dog in, I had asked them to change the number on file and even wrote it down for them to change it. I take my dog every month, usually at other locations where they have great service, but when my dog is staying with my parents, I take her here. The groomers always seem irritated and last time I was here, they were complaining about how annoying the dogs were. Definitely will not be coming back. read more

Sept. 9th: I wanted to update my original review. I recently took my Husky in for de-shedding and a bath. I was reluctant to pay for de-shedding since it didn't really help. I was told that the previous groomer probably didn't do it right and they would provide the service for free. I agreed and initially was happy with the results. The next day I noticed that my dog was really tender when I went to pet his back. I went back to the store to ask if this was normal after de-shedding. They advised me to take him to the vet to check for reaction or skin irritation. The Manager told me they would pay for his vet bill if it turned out to be either issue. The vet gave him anti-inflammatory injection and pills. She attributed the issue to the use of the "furminator". She said it works well but is really sharp. His pain has subsided. Once he was comfortable I was able to examine him closer. I have attached the pic of what I found. I am going to be heading in to speak with the manager this week. We love this place! We spend a lot of time on the weekend here since we have been bringing our puppy Zeus to classes & puppy play time. Andi & Josh are great! We are able to enjoy our new family member even more, since he is learning all of his commands. FYI- puppy playtime is free! Just need up to date shot records! I took an Adult 1 class with Tracy at this Petco, and I was favorably impressed. Her technique is understated but effective. I had gotten pretty far in training my almost-2yo poodle mix, but she still hadn't figured out the down command. With Tracy's help, we got her down to the floor all on her own, and now she's doing great! I'm even working on the roll over command now that we've got a good handle on the down! I am planning on continuing her training in some more classes in order to desensitize her, since she is a bit of a chicken heart. I'm looking forward to getting my girl through the final Canine Good Citizen class with Tracy as soon as we can get through the Adult 2! Side note: there's a cashier named Maria at this store that doesn't seem to be very happy here. I've seen her and been through her line a lot, and I don't think I have once ever seen her smile. I haven't ever had any problems with her, but I have to wonder why she's here if she's not happy. read more

I was told by my dog's vet that my dog would benefit from puppy playtime. I asked Petco staff about the class and was told it didn't start until 1pm. The elderly lady I asked was rude and didn't know.she had to ask another staff member. Anyway, since I live about 30 minutes away, I decided to stay around in the area (an hour and a half) to wait for the class. I arrived early and asked the same elderly woman about the class. She told me it was at the back of the store. After about 10 minutes of waiting at the back of the store, I later found out the class was at the side of the store. I waited only to be told that my dog was too old for the class when clearly the site includes my dog's age. It would have been nice to know that the store doesn't follow their own advertisement of event. Also, the elderly woman (Petco staff) was rude and acted so bothered by someone asking a question. If it's really that difficult to answer without giving dirty looks, perhaps additional training in customer service would benefit her. Truly disappointed. I signed up for 6 sessions of obedience training for my 9 month old puppy on October 8, after speaking with Andrea about what his issues were. She scheduled me for my first session the following Saturday (10/15) at 5:15. Then about 1:30 on October 15, she called and said she did not want to wait around for 3 hours since she was done with her other sessions for the day. She asked if I could wait a week and start the traIning on October 22. I agreed to wait. Then, today, October 22, she texted me at 11:30 stating that she had an asthma attack, had to go to the pharmacy to get meds, and was cancelling the session AGAIN! I tried to contact her, but could only reach the manager Ken. I asked him to contact her and have her call me so we could talk. About 2 hours later, she texted me and explained that she has been having health issues and has had to reduce her work load. I have now waited 3 weeks to start training my puppy and i am disappointed and irritated. I am NOT taking my dog to Pet Co to get trained because apparently she can not provide consistency in training. I am getting my money refunded and going to sign up with a trainer who can provide consistent training sessions. I would not recommend using Pet Co for dog training sessions. read more

We went to Petco Redlands to give my dog a bath. The self wash is $15, you get a basket with 3 small towels, apron and hair brush. The wash area looks decent but dirty- dog hair every where, wet towels left behind and scary flooded floor . When i turned the faucet on, i waited for several minutes since water was cold. We ended up calling the attendant since the water remained cold and shampoo dispenser was not working. The lady was nice enough to move us to a different stall, i complained how dirty the stall was so she diligently cleaned it. Though the staff was nice the facility sucks. Id been to different self service dog wash and so far this is the worst. Im only giving it two stars because of the nice staff who helped us. read more

The self grooming station was really great when it first opened but the last 3 times I've been there the shampoo/conditioner/ hair dryers have not worked. Every time I tell the employees they give me an extremely watered down "shampoo & conditioner" from grooming. Also one time I went and they told me they were out of clean towels so my dog would have to "air dry" outside. Kaitlyn is a superstar for both me and for Grover. He loves going to see her and she treats him like a king. He is a bit difficult to handle when he first goes into the bath area since he hates water. So Kaitlyn puts towels down on the ground for him to carefully, and on a dry surface, walk into that area or into the cage area. But after his bath, Kaitlyn says, he is all excited and walks around easily. I know she fauns over him and gives him special treats. It makes it much easier for me that he loves going there since he is 125 pounds of Great Dane/Mastiff mix. Very bad customer service. They never have carts in the store. I have somewhat of a disability & reported the carts to the manager as I checked out. After I stated that I had to go through the store with no cart managing several cans of food they simply bagged my food without even offering help out. The manager said they don't have enough staff. This is the closest pet store to me and they really do have a wide variety of products. They carry my pets favorite dog food which is Blue Buffalo I get him the simple diet recipe which is the turkey and potato (it's the only one that doesn't upset his stomach) they usually have it on sale and you can save even more with their pals reward program. I am actually really excited they started carrying Charlie's favorite treats as well. I used to have to go to a specialty store for them so it's a really convenient I can just pick them up from here now they are the the Plato thinkers chicken sticks (he goes crazy for them) I docked them a star because the person in charge of the grooming department (I believe her name is LaVelle or something like that) is super rude. I stopped bringing Charlie to get groomed from them because of her. I don't recommend that you trust her grooming your pet. She will literally do it how she wants it and not listen to a word you say. My wife and I just moved to the area few months ago and I called the Petco in Redlands about a half hour ago and spoke to a very helpful person. Her name is Katrina. We were searching for a dog heating pad and she really went above and beyond to help us and to go all the way in the back of the store in the stockroom to check inventory before we made the trip there. On Tuesday evening I went into Petco looking for a new freshwater fish. I spent about 10 minutes looking for a fish that would be best for me and the resources that I have. I asked the employees questions about temperature, tank space, etc. and then chose the fish I felt best suited what I was looking for. I did my research. I purchased the fish, took it home to it's new tank where I had let the water run for 24 hours (prior to buying the fish because I knew I was going to get one) and checked the PH of the water before integrating the fish. I followed integrating instructions, checked water temperature and went to bed. This morning my fish looked healthy but did not want to eat. I was worried about giving it the correct food so I took my lunch and came back to Petco today at 12pm. A very nice person helped me and explained that I do have the right food and that's normal. While I was there I noticed that a fish from the same tank as the one I bought my fish from was dead. I didn't think much about it because it's a pet store and crap happens. when I came home from work my fish was dead. I was shocked because I was so careful, so I took it's little dead fishy body and a sample of water into Petco this evening at 7pm. The manager, I think her name was Beth, helped me make the return. I have never experienced customer service so poor. She played 21 questions with me, questioning me about how I cared for the fish after I took it home, tank size, temperature, etc. and told me with attitude that I should've brought in the water sample separately from the dead fish. She was acting like she wasn't going to refund me, so I asked "I did all of those things right and the fish still died in less than 24 hours, could any of those things even if done incorrectly cause a fish to die that quickly?" And she looked at me like she was annoyed and I was stupid and said "yes." I said "it's a $3.99 fish are you really not going to refund me?" And she said "no I am".... I'm not really sure why I needed a lecture and attitude if you were going to refund me after all. I would say I'm pretty understanding, but this interaction really left me with a bad taste in my mouth for Petco management. I left without getting a new fish because the process was so long and unnecessarily drawn out. My sister and law and I were shocked at how rude the whole transaction was and agreed that it was very unnecessary of her to have an attitude like that. I would like to say I have had nothing but good experience with this Petco! The training staff is amazing ! Andy is a dog whisperer and super friendly . The register people have always been nice, I had my dog groomed once and they were friendly and efficient, I used their vet and that was easy and convenient! For me it's been a one stop shop for all of our pets needs! Vet, training, grooming, food and all. My only complaint would be in aquatics staff working their seemed bothered and didn't engage me when I expressed interest her a fish. Worst service ever! If you go, go when it's slow. I complained to corporate 4-5 years ago about this store. The boiler plate letter I received in return was so patronizing it isn't worth quoting from here. I stopped in last Saturday to buy some minnows for my Oscar. They are the only store in town who carries them. I'm waiting and waiting because the only sales staff member on the floor is helping a little girl who can't decide if she wants a snake or a guinea pig. Meanwhile, 4-5 adults are waiting to be helped, I'm talking a 1/2 hour. I glance over and there's a sales clerk straightening up the dog treats, oblivious to all us us waiting for service. I walk over and ask her to call someone which she does. After another 5 mins or so, she finally walks over and magnanimously offers to do it herself. I go to check out and wait and wait. I've never sen check out people so slow. Finally a young man pops his head out of the office and opens another register (why wasn't he out on the floor?). I'm very unhappy with service I received. I took my dog to get his rabies shots and while I was there, they took my dog to the back and, I wasn't able to go back there with him. Then the veterinarian calls me and starts up selling me with all her recommendations my dog needs. I understand there are Covid restrictions, but while dogs are being groomed there are glass windows, so you're able to see your pet. I just think if the owner isn't able to go back, then I should be able to see my dog through a glass window. I was sold a puppy package, which includes a few shots and a stool sample, however, I don't even think they collected that from my dog, but I received a text that read,"your dog is negative for any parasites." I just think it's a little odd how you have no idea what's going on with your pet and the whole time they really try to up sell. They just prey on pet owners who love their pets read more

We booked an appointment to groom my dog, we went in, I had the proof of rabies, when I handed to the rude lady she threw the top sheet towards me as I tried to explain that this was emailed from the vet, but the vaccine record is hand written and she claims they can not take anything handwritten... I know that's a little old fashion but my vet just switched to a computer system last year and we got the rabies shot in 2018. We left and I tried calling 3 times over the last week to reach them to ask that they call the vet to verify the vaccine record and they do not answer the phone. I'm actually thankful thinking about what a B that lady that threw the paper at me and had a total attitude I can now assume with the crap service that is how they treat the animals too... just because you write a blanket apology from corporate will not urge me to make another appointment. This experience was the worst Petco experience I've ever had, they were so rude and not helpful at all. I asked one lady who was wearing a dog trainer shirt for help and all she did was critique my dog and criticize how i take care of my dog. I went there asking for help and all I got was attitude and judgement, I'm did not need to deal with that especially when I'm just asking for help on my situation. I asked a guy at the cash register for help and he told me to wait on the other side of the store for him and when he came over all he did was do the same thing as the dog trainer, criticize and judge for no reason and then just walked away. LaVelle was wonderful. Although she wasn't feeling well, she stepped in to fulfill the appt - Restoring some faith in Petco's grooming service, after Alyssa told me the appt would take longer than stated and couldn't be done. I had planned several errands while KB was getting groomed, so was not happy. But LaVelle came to the rescue and saved the day! (She went home right after she finished - so I couldn't thank her - but somehow I will.) Katie Bea desperately needed to have her haircut and I left it to LaVelle to determine the best length. It was SHORT! A bit of a shock at first but an hour later - I loved it - she was so cute!! Her hair tends to get oily, so I'm interested to see what happens with shorter hair. I had a 25% off coupon but for some reason Petco's system wasn't accepting any coupons - not even in-store ones and another manager took quite a while to get me the full discount. (Instead of no discount or just 20% as seemed to be hinted by the staff when I was paying). I highly recommend Katelyn (worked on KB the first time) and LaVelle. One last note - watch out if they put ribbons in your dogs hair. The first time they were fine with Katelyn. But this last time the blue ribbons had unraveled and when I got home I had to take them out of her hair so she couldn't eat any of them. An OK shop; not bad, not the best. A good portion of the negative reviews are for the grooming, which I've never had to deal with; in fact, it'd do Petco good to have a separate listing on Yelp for the groomers, since they have some issues to deal with that a normal "petshop" Petco wouldn't. Some of these reviews are ridiculous: a negative review because you couldn't stare at the adoptable cats because there was a dog training session going on? A two star for parvo living on surfaces in the store? Parvo lives at the dog parks and out on sidewalks too; of course you should be careful but dinging a store because parvo exists is silly. Another negative because they don't carry pet rabbits?! :| First, if you're only at a pet shop to STARE at cute animals you're not going to adopt, you're not the target demographic. Also, in general, SELLING pets at "pet shops" is a bad practice since the animals are usually in poor condition from animal "mills" not respectable breeders. I'm not sad they don't carry bunnies. It's bad enough they have chinchillas and other pets. SO GLAD they don't sell more animals. Store is about the same size as most chain pet shops in this area. There DOES always seem to be a line, so plan on that and always watch the screen as they ring things up to make sure products are scanning in at the right prices. I haven't had any worse interactions than at any other chain pet shop. There's only one employee I don't care for, and that's because WITHOUT FAIL every time I get her she rings up stuff WRONG and then argues or takes forever in fixing it. :| Literally there is always a line and always something wrong with checking out (for me). As for their selection, they have a pretty great natural foods section for dogs and cats; this is where I usually end up. MANY great choices for natural/raw/fresh foods, they carry great brands like Innova, Nature's Variety and Canidae. WAY more healthy variety than our local Petsmart (who carries a few good brands, but likes to sneak in "natural" stuff that's junk, and poor stuff like Hills Pet). I also like that frequently they have free samples of dry dog/cat food. An excellent way to find out what my pets LIKE before I invest in an "expensive" brand. Just last week they had a clearance tag for natural dog teeth cleaning chews for $4.95, they rang up at $2. Score. The collar/leash section especially for dogs needs improvement, and I HATE that the collars/leashes/leads are in TWO different sections in the dog area. Come on, put them all in the same place so I can compare! Flea/worm/Tick treatment is the same as Petsmart and Walmart, but not as good as some places and the pricing isn't great. Before I had a dog, I'd come by on weekends to see the local rescue groups adoptable pets. It CAN get crowded, but almost always it's just in front of the dog collar/toy area to the left as you enter the store. Most of the adoptables are tiny dogs that didn't take up much space or have "cages." I love that MOST of the pets they bring in for adoption are well behaved and aren't crying or barking; they do NOT bring in "all" the pets they have up for adoption; they are fostered animals and the foster parents only take in pets they think are going to be okay in a busy social place like Petco. OF COURSE there are exceptions, as there are with most animals in a new situation to them. I don't think it gets that loud unless someone brings a pet UP to the adoptable animals, and I'd rather these groups show off these foster babies in hopes someone ADOPTS instead of buys from a puppy mill. I like the convenience of this location. One of the ladies in the fish department has been REALLY great at explaining things to me and helping me out. Another employee was polite, sweet, and really gracious about fixing an error I found on a receipt (got the item for several bucks less when she fixed it!). I like the selection of natural dog and cat food, and their cat treats as well. Collars/leashes could use improvement, but seriously, it has almost everything a pet owner needs here at a price you can expect from a pet store chain. MAJOR ISSUE for me is a use of their coupons. I've received coupons through my e-mail from PetCo AND many major pet food companies, and some of the fine print says "show this coupon at register NO NEED TO PRINT." They STILL refuse to honor the coupons unless they are printed, and claim corporate makes them do that. Once I was e-mailed coupon from PetCo for a "free trial size bag of dog food." So I took in the coupon the SAME DAY the coupon was sent and they wouldn't accept the coupon. I pointed out that I got the coupon from THEIR e-mail list, and they didn't care. I called corporate about it and like a week later heard from someone who said they had by then discontinued the coupon since they hadn't expected so many people to use it (!!???!). recently took both my puppies to petco in Redlands. My husky had a bit of poop around the anal cavity, when I went to pick her up, the poop had not been cleaned off . My Yorkie was a mess.. I specifically said I wanted a teddy bear face and they totally messed her up, not to mention the fact that tears around the eyes had not even been cleaned. When I picked them up I didn't not noticed they had not be bathed properly because of they were both super excited to see me. Finally when I got home that's when I noticed.. When I called to speak to the manager she said that my Yorkies ears were not properly cut because of the fact that this was her first time, I corrected her and told her she had been to a groomer, (pet smart ) and they did a good job, she laughed, and mocked me, saying "that's wonderful they did a great job" Anyway Ima reach out to a real manager and corporate because I paid about 100$ for that horrible service Do not take your Yorkie there and be specific about what u want done..
